[Other] More than 999 Pokemon in a GBA hack

    Hello,
actually I pretty much know, that it is possible, to have more than 999 Pokemon.
The only problem are the Pokedex slots, that only go up to 999.
One way is, to make added Pokemon use the same Pokedex slot like some other Pokemon. That is like forms, but it´s a solution.
How is this done exactly and are there maybe other ways to have say 2000 Pokemon in one game. I want to make a huge project and that is, what I need.
The last thing is, that I think 32 mb is to little, to work with, with such a project. Is there a way or a possibility, to expand to 64 mb or is 32 mb enough?

Why would you even bother with so many Pokemon?

So which pokemon will you insert in 2000 slots. You will need 8k(Back,Front,shiny back, shiny front) sprites.Where you will make or get it.And all of them should be in 16 colures and in size limit. And you want a 64 mb ROM.May the only possible thing in your post.I'll try a bit.

YOU CANT EXPAND TO 64 MB THAT EASE.GO TO DS HACKING.

Yes, not that easy, but possible in some way, right?

It is not that weird to want that much. I mean, with Gen 7 there will probably be over 800 Pokémon. So give it 2 more generations (at most), and there will be over a 1000 Pokémon.

Why do I want so many?
I'll answer that. Because it is fantastic!
So many different Pokemon! If you ask me, the feeling with discovering 2000 Pokemon is so exciting. The large diversety is getting me.

If you play Pokemon with these 6 generations, then it starts to get boring. You face every Pokemon again and again. In my opinion more Pokemon, attacks, abilities and maybe items (but that's not important) would make Pokemon a new challenge and an even bigger adventure.

And I think, it's possible and managable.

First above all, there's enough Pokemon currently, adding two thousand will not only mean that most of them are rushed (No one can design so many monsters without messing up at least 1500), but it will take an insane amount of time and honestly, no one really cares. No one wants to catch 2000 Pokemon and no one will feel any kind of discovery when you keep on throwing Pokemon at them just for the sake of "diversity" which will turn into a feeling of inconsistency and lack of direction/thought.

It's not, that I want to design them and rush things.
It is for the future, to prepare for the next generations.
For the next things, I highly disagree. It is exciting, to have such a large amount of Pokemon, which will make the whole game like a new experience.

    Fixed that for you.

That aside, the closest thing to 2k Pokémon in a GBA ROM that I saw, was this base for FireRed which apparently has or will have up to 1460 Pokemons.

So it would be better, to hack a NDS rom instead?
Because it has much more space and potential, right?
The problem with that is, that NDS hacking isn't researched as much and harder, to hack in comparison with hacking a GBA rom.

Mikelan98, the guy behind Light Platinum's DS Remake, is literally the only person in the whole internet who apparently got to expand the amount of Pokemons in NDS Roms.
I'm pretty sure he won't share his findings tho, but yeah, sure, you could be one of those pioneers in the English DS Hacking to actually achieve things, who knows, if you're feeling lucky you should give it a try.

Yes, that is a problem, but I will learn about ASM and C programming and try things out.
With NDS roms there is 128 mb to 512 mb of space, right?
That would fix the possible space problems for my plans.

How could it be done, to expand ROMs to 32 mb and not to 64 mb?
I can't understand it. How to make GBA formats support this size?

If you want to implement that many new Pokemon, just create a pure fakemon hack. It will create that element of discovery you desire whilst still being within the GBA limit. No one said a Pokemon ROM hack had to have the original Pokemon in. If you find them boring and repetitive, replace them. Use a large rom base with expanded pokemon slots and get to replacing. You could have 800 new Pokemon. I don't know why you'd want to but it's possible, I guess.

    i think so
NDS roms are harder to hack; there's a reason that people haven't really done much with them--3d models, layers, so much other stuff that just makes it much more difficult than the simple 2d gba roms

    ok so
gba roms are read by the gameboy advance at a global memory position of 0x08______
this is why you have to add 08 to the end of pointers--so that the gba references it correctly
you can expand to a second 16 mb because there's another memory position, which has another 16 MB available and coincidentally comes right after: 0x09______
so when you expand to 32 MB, it just uses up the 0x09______ block
