*believes that the only problem is honesty problem...*
*doesn't mind one person sweeping all the votes from one person, but should also vote for other people, or if that one person is really capable of sweeping every single category (for having best avatar, signature, more knowledgable at _____ and all)*
*wonders why Masato-kun is keeping "that member" nameless as I can even recall who that member is without looking back... it's too darn obvious who that is =/ *
*wants to suggest that MOTM needs a cap of say 5 votes max for the same member to stop this from happening?*

It's just MOTM.
I don't know, just leave it as it as.

Well, so what if it's a popularity contest? It's fun

If you're not popular, then you probably don't post much.PM people, make lots of friends, and then you'll gte voted for

*Puts hand up* MOTM is only a popularity contest. If any one knew that. I mean would you vote for some one that never posted or never gets around? You would have to know that member by PMs or some other way. Now you mite vote "best new member" but most of the time that new member gets around and posts. So if you look at it all the MOTM is a popularity contest.

I think it should. There are too many new members joining all the time, and then you don't know them, and it's hard to know everyone's qualities. So then you vote for the wrong person, or vote for the same couple of people in every category. It's unneccesary. We're supposed to be a family, not a popularity contest.

I voted to get rid of it. As Junichi, Cosmos, Arcanine, Nick, etc said, it's just a popularity contest. It's kind of ridiculous to let popularity determine who's above the rest. oO

[joking mood] That's my reasoning... flame at will. [/joking mood]

(well, it is my reasoning. =P)

Nah.... just do the Member of the Month every 2 months... so theres a timeframe for the new members to know each other.

...........

*believes that this voting should end on Jan. 31 (GMT -6) 12:00 AM...*
*knows that at that faithful moment PC will decide MOTM's fate*
*but regardless of what he still wants to do February in celebration of MOTM 2nd anniversary/last MOTM*

I never vote in the MOTM so it really douesn't effect me in anyway, and Blaine is the only one who votes for me and that dosen't bother me in the least either XD, I'm not really here to be a "popular" person but to post and mod.
Heh ^^ You're my buddy, Lance! Anyways, I think it should stay, cos even if like only one person votes for you, it makes ya feel all warm and fuzzy on the inside. So, Blaine says it should stay.

.....

*thinks that this is so intense with the extra percentage on both to stay and to go*
*thinks that perhaps we shouldn't let MOTM go or stay unless there's a majority of people voting for yes stay/no go, meaning 50% and above voting for that category... either re-vote and force the neutral people to take one side, or add changes to MOTM first and see if anything improves within that month then vote again*
*still think of MOTM as neutral*

Well, I think it should stay, cause...like me, when I first joined, I hardly got any votes from the MotM. But it was part of the MotM that made me work harder to the top. ;p And I vote for people who I think really deserves it, regardless of friendship or whatever.
Exactly! I remember when I was doing the posting statistics, and even though PC was made of few members at the time, the few members posted A LOT. It made people post! Somewhat hard work but it was very doable. Kind of freaky when I looked back at it though. With it, came the huge Member Get-Togethers too.

Yup, heh, I've had that feeling before. :P

But I voted neutral, because I really don't know what kind of long-term effect MOTM has. It most likely didn't affect on October, when it was brought back by me, just as Keitaro's theory pointed out (But I forgot what it is ^_^).

When I first saw MOTM, I viewed the thread as a decent chance to shout out my support for fellow PC members (I like doing that :P), but not being a n00b anymore, after a while, I kind of lost that somewhere. :( So MOTM was fun and it did carry happiness from time to time undoubtfully. ^_^

i think u should keep it even though it seems that it is a popularity contest i think that it adds to the fun of the forum. And as for it hurting anyone for not being voted for - i have never gotten any votes and i really don't mind, so if most people are like me then it is fine....if not then i have no clue what u should do.

So what if MOTM is just a popularity contest! I think it should stay, i find it interesting to see who's chosen who for whichever category, i'm also grateful to the people that have voted for me in one category or another and it doesn't bother me so much when i'm not voted for either. The main reason i actually posted in this thread was because i've completely had it with all the "Should we get rid of The Pair Up and Romance Thread!? etc" posts and whatever! One of the main reasons i joined PC was because of these Threads, they really help to show PC's individuality, i think but meh....that's just my opinion..

Oh! it added more votes... o.o

13 to 11.. Hmmmmm...

Hmm I'm not sure if it's the way that MoTM is handled is the actually problem, not the event itself. At another site I mod at MoTM has proven to be a sucessful way of improving members commitment to be a good member of the site. The voting is done differently. What happens is that members can nominate other members (but no staff) to be the MoTM (so there's only one catergory, also only one nomination). Those nominated are then voted for by the staff, on all round commitment, help, friendliness etc to the site. They even have a MoTM gallery at the site for those who have won it. due to the sucess!

I'm not saying we should adopt this or anything close to this method, but I'm suggesting that maybe the mechanism of the event is adjusted. I myself find the many catergories overwhelming. It really would be a shame to lose such a popular event, especially considering the planning taken to give those wishing to host the event the oppertunity ( I believe it runs into late next year with the next oppertunity).

hmm, what I say may be mean but...

It's always the people that feel they are inferior that say "MOTM's suck they should go" Whereas if they got a ton of votes they'd love the MOTM's...if I didn't get any vote for one month, I'd be pretty sad, but I wouldn't lash out and say that MOTM's are dumb...erk

BOO ya!

inferiority?!

Aww don't say that Dakota:P.
I'm not basing my vote on the fact that I don't get voted in MOTM, although I think I did get voted in some areas (go figure.) I just think it does more harm than good for the community where it stands. I don't want to say just get rid of it, I mean look at the votes so far. It actually neck to neck. If anything, the community and or staff should find a way to streamline this contest.

Anyway, let the votes keep rolling in...

MOTM's are something that defines the PC...do get rid of them is like taking the rims out of the ghetto...

did I just say that?

*chops lips off*

BOO ya!
