Hello world! ty for the fantastic thread layout...!

I started my Pokemon journey about 14 hours ago. I set my alarm for 9am so I'd be wide awake at 10am when the clock in Japan rolled over to midnight and my pre-loaded pre-order from the Japanese eShop finally unlocked.

9:58 - I refresh my twitter list to see if there are any updates. All my friends are working or still asleep. I try the game icon just in case my phone is 2 minutes slower than Nintendo's servers. It's not.

9:58 - See above. I try the game again, and it still tells me "1 Day left". I panic slightly, because what if it really means one day and I have to wait for the eShop to update? I shake my head at myself because that didn't happen with Detective Pikachu and why would they let me preload it if it didn't unlock at midnight.

9:59 - See above. Same thought process, even though I'd just reassured myself a moment ago.

10:01 - what the heck how did I zone out for a minute hoLY SHIT IT'S POKEMON TIME!!! I slam the icon on my home screen and my eyes tear up. I immediately put down my 3DS to obnoxiously tweet "IT'S POKEMON TIME" to my twitter list who I know still has to wait ~14 hours (if not like a week) for their copies. I'm a little shit.

10:02 - I'm looking at the language list. I never did totally decide whether to play in English (native language) or Japanese (my 3DS language). Japanese would be good practice but... ehh.... I wanna understand the dank memes that the English fandom comes up with from NPCs and stuff. English it is!

10:03 - Uh oh I have to pick a name. Uh. Uh. I guess "Erica". Oh, but it would be cute if I had a little symbol. I've done that before. I'll try a sun, for Pokemon Sun. Oh, no, wait, no. That looks dumb. A star? No, that's stupid. Okay, just "Erica" then. Aww FUCK SO MANY CHOICES, I gotta pick my character. Okay, I'm a girl. Uh oh, can I change eye colour? I like the brown hair but my eyes are blue. Well, I know I can change hair so I'll pick the blonde girl with blue eyes. LET'S PRETEND THAT DIDN'T SOUND RACIST. Still have a stupid hat though.

10:?? - Who the heck cares what I did at every minute? I'm getting absorbed in the game now!!

- Anyway, so that obnoxious format aside, I guess I'll try point form from now on.

- I'm starting my adventure!!!! Cute intro! I have a crush on Lillie already!

- Wow, my mom actually has her own bedroom in this game. Wow. WOW. We are living in the future now folks! We finally made it!

- The TV has an annoying commercial on. Every TV has this annoying commercial on. Alolans live in a world where every second of every TV broadcast of every channel is about those dumb snacks. I guess it's probably because like... everyone is actually outside enjoying the beautiful island nature but like??? what about me? I just want to lie in bed playing Wii U.

- Cousin and mom are forcing me to leave the house what is this BS. Mom is making me wear this ugly hat. Cousin says he likes my hat.

- Cousin is making me walk up a hill. I hate Alola.

- Walked up hill to empty village and all I got was this ugly hat.

- Okay HOT DAMN!!!!!!!!! cute lil lolita i'm gonna make her my girlfriend. I jump in and SAVE THE DAY. and get saved. but I still saved the day first. I think she likes me.

- I'm picking a Pokemon here we go! HERE WE GO!!!!!!!!!!!

- I name my Rowlet "Moof". I'm not sure why. I kinda panicked and it sounded cute. It kinda fits tho. moof.

- I've gotta battle this (honestly, compared to Lillie the Light Of My Life... boring) kid. I beat him super easily because his Pokemon isn't even good against mine and they let me start with a grass type move. Lmao? BACK IN MY DAY WE HAD TO STRUGGLE AGAINST THE OPPOSING TYPE AND WALK UPHILL FROM PALLET BOTH WAYS.

- Moof and I are going back to show mom. She likes him! She asks me why I picked him. Because he was cool? Cute? Lmao it's Rowlet. Of course "cute". She says he's cute AND cool. Thanks mom.

- Okay Moof and I are going out to learn how to battle. I guess? tbh the beginning of the game was a blur and I'm some 14 hours out now so if this is out of order I apologize. I'm Sorry. (Also: I'm Canadian™.) Cousin shows me how to catch a Pokemon and gives me a bunch of Pokeballs. Damn, remember the days when you had to run through all that grass and pray to god you wouldn't meet any shinies for a good half hour until you were finally allowed to buy pokeballs? Okay yeah to hell with the old days, I don't miss That.

- Beat the shit out of a Youngster. TAKE THAT.

- AWWWWWW I RAN INTO A PICHU!!! I GOTTA CATCH IT!!! Speaking of Ye Olde Dayes, god, remember when my favourite pokemon was Pichu? I do, mostly because every day I look at this sight and think "haha, i can't believe cherrim wasn't always my favourite":

- I'm naming the Pichu "Lightning" because back then, I used to ALWAYS train a female Pichu named Lightning. Hey, Alolan Raichu is a thing... maybe I'll make that happen again! Okay! I've got my second party member!!! Pichu, welcome back to my heart!!!!!

- Uhhh okay I think I'm back at the town now. There's a festival. They hyped this up but this festival is literally like 7 old guys standing around doing nothing. What the? Who cares!

- Alright I haven't battled with Pichu yet but I honestly wasn't expecting a plot fight for some reason so I put Pichu in front and lo and behold, my rival caught a Pichu as well so it was a Pichu face off and LOL what a boring fight. All I knew was Thundershock and Growl and all he had on me was Charm so. Yeah. Long fight. But we were victorious! I assume he also sent out his starter but the poor thing got destroyed so fast it left no impression. RIP. (praying emoji) (do emoji work on pc? who knows not me)

- Okay, uh, well, remember those timestamps? OOPS it's just after noon. I have to be on a bus to class by 12:31 so time to get dressed. I... dress for my release day. Pichu line shirt (fitting, considering my new catch!) and Pikachu bow in my hair. Is anyone else posting literal selfies in their journals? HA DIDN'T THINK S---oh, wait, some people at midnight releases probably will. Well. Whatever. Technically I was first. Even though I bet some will get their blogs posted before mine since I still have like 8 hours of "content" to write. (What if I go over the character limit? Oh god I'd die. I've already been writing like 45 minutes save me. Derk this is your fault I blame you.) Oh right awk bathroom selfies:

- I play a little bit while waiting for the bus, while on the bus, while walking to class, while waiting for class to start and... well, you know what? Fuck it. We're playing in class too. Prof is a gamer. He won't mind. Probably. Maybe. (Well, he didn't say anything if he noticed.)

- ^_^ Today Lillie came to call on me from my house and escorted me to my cousin's lab. When I was there she got mad at Rival for wanting to go up into the loft because apparently that's her bedroom. So of course I immediately tried to go up there, expecting her to make a fuss but she didn't. :> Her little bedroom is so cute!!!!! I am going to sit here and Pretend we blushed and held hands on her bed. (She's gonna turn out to be evil or something, isn't she. RIP my headcanons. T___T)

- I catch a Yungoose and name it "Trump". Sorry. :(

- Took down an entire school of trainers while in school. Meta. Or something.

- Oh lord oops I got access to the wireless place and tapped it out of curiosity and now I have to go through this whole song and dance to set it up and I don't even have wifi I can connect to and class is still going on and I can do mindless battles while paying attention but not this uh oh jeez OK i left.

- Aaaaaand I made it to the big city! Hooray! I hope it has a salon so I can change my hair colour. I feel really weird being blonde. First up is... oh! Nice! a clothing store! :) And the Girlfriend is outside!! Lillie, Light Of My Heart!!! She walks up to me and says she was the 999,999th customer to the store and got a free prize for it. She already had these things so she gave them to me. They're... a contacts case and a makeup kit. Uh. ._. Okay well, I am squicked the fuck out by contact lenses of any sort and I don't even bother with makeup IRL but uh... ok............. (aren't we like 11? who wears coloured contact lenses and makeup at age 11?) ((ok u know what? I know for a fact i am 11 because an npc mentioned it to me after the """"Festival"""". this is weird. okay headcanon time: I am at least 14.))

- Oooh, if she was the 999999999999-somethingth, does that mean I'm the millionth! Hot damn I'm gonna get the coolest prize!

- I buy pink kneesocks because omg pink kneesocks, a blue tank top that has a surfing pikachu on it (cuuuute!), and white shorts because they look the least weird with the previous colour combo. And I also got... wait for it.......... A NOT-UGLY HAT!!!! WHOOOOOO farewell weird udder hat. I will never look at you again.

- Hey wait a sec, I didn't get a prize? :/ wtf

- At this point I'm like "Okay, I'm super cute now but I'm still blonde" so I whined on twitter about how it was nice that the clothing store to replace the hat was so close but I want a salon too and.... lol, if I'd just taken 5 steps instead of whining, I'd have bumped into the salon but ok w/e time for my real hair colour!!

- I forget to save before going into the salon and remember as I have to select my style and colour that it doesn't let you "try it on" first, or even show you what it looks like. So I take a risk on the long wavy hair and oooh, pink-brown (or something like that), let's do it!

- The Pink-Brown is disappointing. 0/10 would not buy again. I have to go back in to change the colour to dark brown. I've already wasted like ¥6000 on all this just because idiot me didn't realize you can change your eye colour lmfao. Anyway, it's fixed now. I'm not a huuuuge fan of the hair but there will probably be cuter styles later in the game anyway, if they follow XY, so I'll wait.

- Look, it's me!!!!

- I must have gotten cute bc look this girl is already flirting with me.

- The girl next to me in class was totally like "WTF" as I took the above two pics. :(

- I wander the city for a bit. Finally find the place that every TV in the whole world is raving about. They make me something and I give it to my Pichu to eat. The cashier made this big deal out of it but they didn't even show me what it looked like??? Weird. I don't see why every TV is raving about this place. I'm pretty confused. I get a massive one to take home with me anyway.

- I head down to the dock and Il...i...an...? The first... Island...... Person....... Thing........ is there. She (? she's kind of got this androgynous thing going on. I like it.) is really excited about me. Team Skull walks up and holy crap is it just me or are they the most annoying team ever? :/ :/ :/

- We make quick work of them and she invites me to marry her to do her island challenge thingy. Aside: You know, part of the reason I decided to play in English is so I would know all the English terminology for talking about this game with my friends and LMAO I don't even remember any of it. Way 2 Go @ Me.

- Class is over. I go and get a sandwich and very awkwardly try to play with one hand while eating the sandwich. I give up very quickly. I finish eating and go to sit outside my next class for... an hour and a half. PLAY TIME!

- At some point I catch a Meowth and trek aaaall the way back to my house to show my mom, since she mentioned at some point that she wanted to see an Alolan Meowth. She doesn't notice or say anything. I'm a little disappointed. :(

- Alright I'm finally leaving the city! I take an immediate right after leaving and... welp, Pokemon graveyard. Cute story though! There's a girl in there named "Ikue" who uses a Pikachu. When you defeat her she says she comes to the grave and calls "Pikachu!" for her lost Pokemon family member. Pikachu's voice actor is Ikue Otani. I thought that was a cute reference!!!!

- Back up the hill... I run into Team Skull again. They are still very annoying. :/ Almost as annoyiNG AS THE RED BATTERY LIGHT ON MY 3DS HOW DID THAT HAPPEN!???!??!?? T___T NOOOOOOOO

- I sadly turn off the wireless, because more playtime is better than the whopping one streetpass I've gotten all day. I press on, saving every 10s because my battery has started flashing now and surely that means it's almost dead. Class is about to start so I figure I'll turn wireless back on and just let my 3DS sadly die in my backpack. I spend class thinking about how much I wish I'd brought my charger.

- I come very close to skipping my JLPT study session to come home and play Pokemon but decide to be a good student and study. I treat myself and show up fashionably late with Starbucks. Sensei compliments me on my Pikachu bow and asks where I got it. I get to embarrassedly tell her "Hot Topic ni kaimashita" and she asks me what Hot Topic is and I'm very embarrassed so I turn around to speak to her more directly anD KNOCK OVER MY COFFEE ONTO THE FLOOR!!! NOOOOO!!! I rush out to the bathroom to grab paper towels but there are none because it is an environmentally friendly bathroom. :( Of all the times! Luckily (or unluckily, because I felt very bad about it), the custodians were right there and one was very nice about coming back in (because they had evidently JUST mopped the floor in my classroom) and mopping up my mess. rip me. sob. i'm sorry world.

- Anyway after a very long time I finally come home and somehow my 3DS hasn't died? And I got one more street pass! Neato! I unplug my NA 3DS which was charging all day and plug my JP one back in.

- I remember that I left off in Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Spirit of Justice during what was basically the climax of the last case and figure "how hard can it be to play two games at once????" Obviously very hard because here is Moof totally looking at my other 3DS being like "dude what are you looking at, i'm much cuter :/ :/"

- At some point I hop onto the wireless plaza thingy and set my profile phrases. :) I'm happy about the one that's all like "I've liked Pokemon since I first visited Kanto!" I wish I could bring myself to say "I've been playing Pokemon for 20 years!" because I've been playing Pokemon for basically as long as it's been out in North America but alas... we got it a couple years late so... no dice. I can't bring myself to lie. Who lies on the internet!? Not me.

- I Wonder Trade! I feel a little bad because I don't have anything of value, but at least I nicknamed my Slowpoke (Slopes--I didn't say it was a great nickname, ok??) so it's not totally boring. And hey, there's tons of Pokemon in the early game so maybe they'll appreciate a Slowpoke? In return I get...... a Slowpoke. LMAO WELP. At least we were both sending over our random leftovers. Mine at least had a nickname though. For shame,

- I talked to a Korean girl wandering the plaza. She talked about her Wonder Trade of a Meowth for a Meowth. At least it's not just me and _ having awkward anonymous exchanges.

- Lightning is getting to level 15. I know she should have evolved at level 13 for max Pika, but damnit it's hard to get a baby to love you at the start of the game, especially when you don't have the luxury of several days of haircuts like in GSC! :( I'm starting to worry she won't even be able to learn Thunder Wave.

- It turns night while I'm chatting on Discord and ignoring both games I have open in front of me. Oops. I give up on Ace Attorney for the night and turn my attention back to Pokemon. Time to take on the first Trial!

- ...it's annoying. Trumps everywhere. D: Team Skull comes back. Lightning faints twice because she is a baby and can't take a hit... or dish out damage. But! During this ordeal, Moof evolves!! He looks dashingly cute now! I spent like 2 hours writing this while chatting instead of playing.

- At some point while writing this, I try to use Thundershock not once, but twice on a Diglett. I think it might be bedtime.

Soooo! It sure has been a while. After that whole big deal about getting the game 14 hours early (like, I knew the exact number and everything), I ended up barely playing at all over the weekend. I am woefully behind everyone else but it would be a tragedy if I failed to update you all on the very minute progress I've made, especially since you guys were nice enough to leave comments!

Speaking of, I have a few to reply to. 8)

Lmao, right!? I was a little surprised there wasn't something up there for me considering how obvious a choice it was to climb the ladder.

Oh, I didn't notice that! But something I did notice is.... did you know if you get back into your bed and roll over to go back to sleep, you'll actually fall asleep. Then your family's Meowth will come back in and wake you up... with a free Awakening item! It's a really cute scene! I discovered it after I derped and went all the way back to my bed to recover my Pokemon instead of just talking to my mom.

Ohhh! Nice! I kind of wish I'd come into the game with a naming theme because instead all I've been doing is nicknaming Pokemon weird sound effects that sound vaguely like their name. :s I feel bad for all the people I've wondertraded lmfao.

Hey so Erica, you off the island yet?

Well, no. Not quite.

See... I went to bed right after that first entry and woke up super late. I basically just barely had time to get dressed before my mom got here. We ran some errands and then went to see Fantastic Beasts! It was lots of fun and I got a few streetpasses but... somehow while I was in the movie, my 3DS overheated??? That's never happened before but it was fine when I woke up a few hours earlier and totally dead and super warm when I left the theatre. Weird... and ****ty, because it meant I couldn't play Pokemon on the drive from my city to mom's, since I'd decided to spend the weekend with her.

So I played Ace Attorney and then the next day, we had more errands to run and I never really had a chance to play Pokemon. Then that night I finally finished Ace Attorney (omg what a long final case) and next day I did homework before and during the drive back home.

But! Then it was Pokemon time again!!!

I think I did the first Island Challenge while I was writing that previous post, but I lost my progress when my 3DS died in the theatre, so I had to redo it when I picked the game back up. It didn't take long but I had to be annoyed by that Skull team again. :( And mash through all the text teaching me about Z-moves. But! I did it!

I left the cave and OH NOOOOOOOOOO MY GF IS MISSING............. T_T I rush off to find her and we meet again in this romantic flower alcove. I had to save her little pet Pokemon from itself again and along the way I caught some new children for my ever-expanding party.

I think at this point I've simply decided to forego a traditional team. I've become more than a little enamoured with the idea of catching everything an island has to offer before moving on, so I've been swapping my Pokemon in and out to get a chance to use everything. This is made especially easy with that "swap your just caught pokemon into your party" feature. *__* So I might just keep my starter and train a little bit of everything!

At this point everyone was pushing me to go beat the Island Kahuna so I wander up there and get into the battle. I distinctly remember my stomach sinking when I talked to the dude because I forgot to save beforehand but then I ended up taking him down singlehandedly with my Cutiefly and all was well. B) They started talking about how now I have to go to all these other islands and beat their challenges and I just kind of nodded blankly, knowing I still had a good 6 hours left on this island. But!!! Lillie asked to come with me! YESSSSSS this totally means she likes me back, right? 50 years from now we'll be telling our grandkids how we met and she'll mention how it took a few months before one of us asked the other out and I'll just counter with "what? no haha we were totally dating from day one, you just didn't realize it."

Uh.

Yeah anyway.

So now I've got Tauros to ride and this gave me access to more of the island which… of course means even more time spent hunting down Pokemon. I think I've got about 5 evolution lines to get started (I don't plan on actually evolving everything before moving on, just catching the base Pokemon)

Oh! And thanks to a generous trainer on Route 3, I got a Soothe Bell to give to Lightning and after enough time she finally evolved holy ****. She was at level 20 when she finally became a Pikachu. T__T;;; However, I'm not so bummed about this thanks to my decision to cycle Pokemon in and out. :D I think for now, Magnemite will be my main electric type and I'll bring Lighty back on the next island or so.

I AM SORRY THIS ENTRY WASN'T AS FUNNY/INTERESTING AS THE PREVIOUS ONE but honestly like I did maybe 20 minutes of plot tops so it's not like there was a lot to talk about. T_T;; But hopefully tomorrow I'll be off this island and back on my adventure with Lillie. I mean, my Pokemon.

I honestly thought I was the only person here that played it. I would ask you to join my party in Unchained X, but then I remember that no-one never bothers with my recruit requests because they'll probably never touch the damn 'Other' option in the menu in their life, and probably because I'm pretty lame/unpopular. And besides, who wants to bother with some KH fan who actually started liking the series thanks to some of the manga and novels (aka the only novel that ever got released in English), some cool fan-fiction, and hated both the 3D Demo, and when she was very young and was first discovering the magical programs known as emulators, Chain of Memories? Probably no-one. (I think I hated CoM because I was young and probably skipped all those tutorials. I say 'hated' because OMFG THE CoM MANGA IS FUNNY AND AMAZING AND I LOVE IT)

I can understand that you couldn't beat it. In fact, I did finish that dumb quest that was so goddamn hard, but that was because I FREAKING SNAPPED and wasted some jewels to continue. I did get some jewels back since I was using the Key-blade they asked me to use, but since the other 2 objectives told me not to continue....And then I finally said "Screw it, I'm not gonna beat this event." when I got to the next mission and failed. According to some people on Twitter, you should probably not go to the final island as soon as you beaten up the Kahuna of the 3rd island. I don't know who, because spoilers and stuff. Also, apparently most trainers, with the exception of bosses, will mostly have 1 or 2 Pokemon. So...yeah.
