New Evolution Methods?

Not saying the idea is plausible, but can't the camera just check for an overall darker tone or lighter tone with the "selfie camera" in order to determine that...?
I highly doubt the 3DS camera has a photodetector though.

"Photodetector". It just has to look at if there's more "cooler" colors compared to more "warm colors".

Just would like to add that this isn't efficient in any way, as this could be abused... for example:

It would be great if Feebas could only evolve on Fridays.

Cycles or days of the week could be interesting as time intervals determining evolutions, although as you said that could get slightly sparse. However, generally speaking new modes of evolution haven't had that much of a conceptual connection to the new games, and as such this might depend. Perhaps the Moon Stone is revealed as related to the Mist Stone, and can evolve everything, and the Sun Stone is somewhat like Mega-Evolution at this point? It might make sense for those to be humorously OP, ultimately. Really, though, they should take care not to marginalise those two with new ones.

Yeah, we'll probably see more day/night evolutions. I just don't want any silly evolution methods, like holding your 3DS upside-down while singing the National Anthem in a suit and tie.

I'd like to see some more of the ones that were introduced in Diamond and Pearl. Black and White had no cross-generational evolutions, while X and Y had only one, so there hasn't been much of an opportunity to use them.

Since Gen IV, we haven't had any new evolutions based on:
- Stone + Gender (e.g. Gallade)
- Gender (e.g. Vespiquen)
- Moves (e.g. Ambipom)
- Location (e.g. Magnezone)
- Item + Time (e.g. Gliscor)

We also haven't seen Time + Happiness (e.g. Lucario) since Gen IV, but that wasn't introduced by Gen IV.

As I mentioned before, GF hasn't been using them because of a lack of cross-generational evolutions, but there's no real reason they have to be exclusive to them. It's just that GF refuses to do so.

As far as actually new stuff, though, nothing specific really comes to mind.

That technically wouldn't really work. It would depend on what colors the cameras could see and not how light or dark it would be; for example, if there was a really dark red and the camera detected it, it would trigger what would be the "light-sensitive" evolution.

I agree, why do they want to act like these evolution methods need to meet a certain criteria which is "evolution of previous gen Pokemon"? I feel they could work just as well on a new Pokemon.

Especially Gender seeing how Vespiquen evolves from Gen IV mon, Combee.

As I said before, not really the best idea in the world but just something to think about.

I'm going to blow your minds. It's in a spoiler for anyone curious.

Spoiler:

And what about us that don't drink coffee?? :(

The franchise doesnt need new evolution methods, they only need to implement cool fusions ideas.

I agree with more fusions. Black Kyurem and White Kyurem was such a fresh idea, and I think if they did it with a few more legendaries - maybe Johto dogs, and Hoenn's ancient beings something super cool could happen. I think anything's possible really in regards to that.

Now I thought about a crazy idea, using telescope to find certain star formations and these would
trigger evolution, or they could be used as a mega evolution gathering gimmick of the gen, to replace overworld stone hunting to some degree anyway.

Unless there was a meteor shower once a week at a certain location, and the Pokemon needs to evolve under the stars (which would be an awesome cut-scene). Slow but oh well!

Irrelevant but thought I'd mention it: even having shooting stars in this game would be amazing - being able to go outside, see a shooting star, go to where it landed and pick up a star piece. Bringing some realism into the game would be appreciated.

Spoiler:

What if you don't live in New York?

anyway, I saw something about a pokemon that evolves if it faints holding a reaper cloth.

That seems like a weird evolution method. Especially given fainting makes a Pokemon's happiness get weaker, and I feel like that would be a bit too cruel just to evolve a Pokemon.

Well we already get a Pokemon by some kind of death with Nincada shell turning into Shedinja.

I heard some speculation about Pokémon that evolve on an IRL eclipse. While that's a cool idea, it'd be wayyy to infrequent to not be totally frustrating. I really don't see what else can be done with evolution :|

Wouldn't that be kinda bad for the battery? Having the camera constantly running in the background?

Wouldn't mind an in-game eclipse but an irl one would be too hard to work out. Although what they could do is change its FORME on the day of an eclipse (like how diamond dust worked in dppt, only on a special calendar day). Making anything only ever evolve on an eclipse would make the game too difficult to complete. Sometimes they're a few months away, and people will easily lose interest. The forme change is the most likely thing that would happen here - a Solar eclipse would alter this theoritical Pokemon in a different way than a Lunar eclipse would. The cool thing is if said Pokemon could keep its forme if kept in PokeBank etc like Sawsbuck and Deerling. It's just a theory but it's probably one of the most likely things that'll happen regarding eclipses in real life.

Maybe something like "Evolves starting at lvl. 20 while having a nickname." Nicknames are supposed to indicate a trainer's bond with a Pokemon and therefore could be used as an evolution trigger like friendship/happiness/love/whatever-the-term-is. It could be something attached to one of the gimmicky Normal-types that every generation has, or just as a method for some Pokemon with the kind of design that might suit this form of evolution.

The idea of moon cycles is a cool one, and maybe if they do introduce those then we could have some temporary battle-based evolutions that happen during a full moon. Werewolf-kind of Pokemon. And maybe at high noon some Pokemon would get that similar type of temporary evolution. I don't think it's very likely but who knows.
