Considering the rumors about a new Game Boy system, I began to think upon the graphics, and a thought came to me: will there be 64+-bit 3D graphics, or will they make a more detailed 2-D system? I know the DS is going to be three-dimensional, but would nintendo also do that to their next gameboy? I'm concerned that if the next gameboy was 3-D, it would lose a lot of its charm and seem just like a DS clone. I know nintendo strives to make every system more advanced than their equivalant, but the thing that makes the game boy what it is is its unique graphics. Of course, we all go for the great graphics of the next-gen systems, but the gameboy line has always strived for its own breed of excellence in the two-dimensional area, which is appreciated by anyone who owns a game boy or anyone who has owned any of the pre N64 systems. Face it: you're not going to get the same type of beauty that can be achieved in such GBA games as Metroid Fusion/Zero Mission and Fire Emblem. People enjoy sprites and the detailed, sometimes photorealistic pictures that can be seen in some GBA games...and the method of linear gaming and up/down/left/right controlling is best suited for a 2-D system. What my worry is is that nintendo may make the next gameboy 3-D in the name of progress, but in the same time may lose some of the qualities that made the GB abd GBA unique, which would turn some gamers away from it...I'm just worried that the DS and GBE will be too similar...
