Pokejungle had a name explanation I liked more for Dwebble than that list.

    Dwell + Pebble

It makes more sense too than Dwarf

and Gymnotide, this is really just a small niggle....but:

Cryogonal is more likely to be (Cryos + Hectagonal)

Since Polygonal is a shape with just five sides while Hectagonal has six sides....and Cryogonal has six sides.

  • Well, seeing as how Coronas are named after the word "corona," (meaning "crown") which Volcarona draws from, that's not much of a surprise.

Hydreigon also uses "drei," which is German for "three." Proof is that Deino uses "ein" and Zweilous uses "zwei."

Uh, no. Excadrill has nothing to do with swords. It's more likely linked to the word "excavate." Post noted.

    Thanks. I'll put that up.

You're also very mistaken in thinking that a polygon only has five sides. "Poly" (Greek "polus") means "many." A pentagon has five sides. A polygon has three or more. A hexagon (not "hectagon") has six sides, though "polygon" is more correct because Cryogonal has much more than six sides.

    Stunfisk - Stun + Fish???

    Lutefisk

(I really should move it elsewhere, maybe my LiveJournal...), if you have an account there, feel free to help with missing and debated names.

...and where exactly have you been for the past week?

Thanks. "Fisk" is actually the word for "fish" in most Northern European languages, so it's not just bound to that one type (which doesn't make sense because Stunfisk is a flounder, not a cod). I can't believe I missed that. Noted.

  • No. Just no. This is wrong. Seriously wrong. The english names SUCK!
WHAT IS WRONG WITH THESE PEOPLE?! THEY NOW OFFICIALLY SUCK AT NAMING POKEMON!

I will not let a single pokemon be left un-nicknamed. And I will yell at the game whenever I see a wild pokemon/trainer pokemon or even hear a bad name mentioned.

And Dream Mist? Dream Smoke sounded better.

So far the names are the only thing that I HATE!!!!! about this game.

Now that I got that out of my system... I am still looking forward to these games, though my enthusiasm goes down with each new name released.

I'd like to poke fun at a few names. The list will grow larger:

Foongus (Fungus?) & Amoongus - There are fungus among us -.-

Like "Ponyta" was a good name to begin with.
Subjective. "Mist" is a lot more dreamy than "smoke" anyway.

You're right about that one mist is more mysterious than smoke at least to me it is.
I think people are over exaggerating their hate of the English names I mean quite a few people hated the Titles of the games themselves and called them dull now look at people practically no one is complaining about them now.

  • No.

Nobody is forcing you to play the games, just saying. ;)

That being said, Foongus and Amoongus are a pretty "hurrr de durr" play on words there. I laughed the first time I saw those names, but now I just think they're kinda dumb. :/

These names all still aren't confirmed, so...
    (Though we're assuming they are)

I think Amoongus works well, because you can be like "oh no, the evil one is amoongus" and then someone will be like "who is the evil one?" then you're like "amoongus" and then the person is like "yeah I get that it is among us but who?" and it can go on and on. :D So yeah I like Amoongus. But Foongus is kinda weird. :(

Oh so they aren't confirmed yet! (I was wondering about how much confidence I should have on these names)

  • I haven't had time to have a good look at the list of ALL the names, but from what I've seen from the Official Pokémon site, I think alot of the names are very creative, and I like them all so far!

I like them too, and I haven't looked at the whole list because I don't like getting spoiled... I looked at the rumoured starter evo's (last summer?) and I thought FAKE. But they were real. The only thing I dislike is that Bel's called Bianca now. And in Spain she kept her name Bel :@

Yeah, I'd rather not look at the list, I'd rather find out the names as I encounter & catch them in the game and I agree, Belle suited her more, but still atleast she got a nice name like Bianca.
