4th Gen [Old] HG/SS Help Thread

Do you still have to handle the thief in Cerulean who stole the machine part from the power plant? If so, what do you get from the guy at the plant? I remember he would give you the TM for zap cannon. I'd love for it to be a 1-time move tutor for zap cannon :D.

The thief in Cerulean is still located in the game for stealing the Machine Part from the Power Plant. However, once retrieving the item back you won't be rewarded the TM Zap Cannon (as it doesn't exist for the Forth Gen). Neither is a move tutor found here for that move. Instead, you will be rewarded TM57 - Charge Beam. Once you've earned this, you'll know your mission for the Power Plant has been completed and you may continue to progress through the game.

It's just another part of the game that was altered to fit with what's been done so far. I guess, Charge Beam was just the most preferred TM to replace Zap Cannon in this situation.

So, I have a question about EVs.

Which Pokemon give you the best EVs in HG/SS? Or does every Pokemon give you something?

I'd hate to say that you're wrong but you are
You are also right, though!

You can evolve Piloswine into Mamoswine as soon as it learns ancient power and it will appear as #197 in the Johto Pokedex.
Probably something with my wording, but I had said 'with some Pokemon is all' rather than Mamoswine in particular which is in the dex as you said. =P

Every Pokemon gives you an EV point/s of some sort when you defeat it. You can check what EVs certain Pokemon will give you with serebii.net's dex. As for the best for EV-training itself, going to be lazy and quote Hiiro's post from a while back:

SPECIAL DEFENSE

If we save before the bug catching contest can you repeat it by resetting or does it save automatically before you start, because I want to catch a good natured scyther.

So, to those who have beaten HG/SS, how many days AND hours did it take you to get to the credits? Did you rush or took it slow? I'm hoping the game is long since there are two regions. Pearl was short. At least it was for me. XD

Does anyone know how the pokewalker affects happiness? Like, would it be helpful in raising an eevee's happiness, so I could evolve it quickly?

IIRC, you can restart. (But at the worst case if not, just change the day and time to trick it to go again).

It varies for people, really... how fast they are, and if they try to beat it quickly or just take it slow and enjoy the sidequests and whatnot. The Johto quest by itself is shorter than D/P/Pt, but include Kanto and everything that's there and it ends up being longer. (But there's a thread on this now I believe? Leastways for what people will do...)

I can't say I'm sure - I guess the number of steps/watts you get will increase the happiness at a certain rate, and I believe this could carry over once transferred into the games... but someone else might have to answer this.

I know, but haven't you beaten the game, bobandbill? I want to know how many hours and days it took you to beat the main quest and if you took it slow or did it pretty fast. I know it'll vary from person to person, but I would like to hear from someone who has beaten it, lolz.

EDIT: Or this question goes out to anybody that has beaten the game.

..of course I beat it. XD Only I don't remember - at any rate I took it slow to enjoy it (spent time in the Pokeathlon and safari zone before going onto the next gym for instance), and had a LOT of school stuff at the same time as well. =/ Took me a few weeks to get to Red methinks at least.

But this is the Help thread, not the 'game time' thread - if anything the aforementioned thread asking if one is going to play it fast or slow could be used for people to answer that question, tbh. Don't want the Help thread to be overflowed with those sort of responses, is all. That and not that many people have played it yet I'd wager given it's only been out in Japan and Korea thus far.

I know, but people in the thread about if you're going to take it slow and easy is for those who are going to get the game; not those who have beaten it.

I just needed an answer to my question and you did answer it! A couple of weeks taking it slow and with school work on top lolz.

Here's a new question: do the badges still make noise when you touch them? I asked it before, but I think it wasn't seen. XD And is this thread dedicated more to questions about those who have the game and need help or to those just wondering something about the game?

You can't even touch the badges because they're on the top screen.
I have no clue about the second question. Last time I was here(REALLY LONG TIME AGO) it was mostly for people playing it but there were people who didn't have it.

I have a question. Is stone edge supposed to hit while your flying/bouncing? I was doing the E4 for the third time and a Machamp hit my bouncing Jumpluff with Stone Edge and I was all OMGWTFBBQLOL!

No, Stone Edge is not meant to hit you while you are using Bounce/Fly, but Machamp's ability, No Guard, makes it possible to hit any opponent who is Bouncing/Flying.

And is this thread dedicated more to questions about those who have the game and need help or to those just wondering something about the game?
Both, maybe more towards getting help in the game but this thread does serve both purposes - unless a question can be aimed at near everyone and is discussion worthy rather than being a question with a specific answer.

There's none currently being given out, or any known info yet on when the next one will be, assuming there is one for it later. =/

You only needed to have a rematch against her once, as you continue to play through the game, she'll call you up on your PokéGear and suggest making a trade. She will trade you her Steelix while in return you can give her any Pokémon of your choice.

I assume you've obtained Morty's and Brock's PokéGear number. With this being said, to set up the rematch against them, you have to call them during a specific day and time during the week. For Morty, you can to call him Tuesday night to set up the rematch. For Brock, you have to contact him Saturday Night. After you've set up the rematch they'll be found at the Fighting Dojo in Saffron City. They'll be there until you battle them, so you won't have to worry about battling them during any specific time.

As for Blaine, you'll find him on Cinnabar Island (or at least what's left of it) during Tuesday Mornings only.

morty wont want a rematch. green is stuck on cinnibar. its been two days and jasmine wont call. and blaine is never on cinnibar on my game.
