omg I can't sleep...

I'll have the hardest time falling asleep every once in a while. It happens a lot when I'm not on a schedule and sleep in, so I started setting my alarm for those days, and it helps. I am definitely a night owl, though. I will stay up as late as possible, and not want to go to bed. When I usually plan to go to bed early, I catch a second wind around 10:00 PM, and I'll be up until 1:00 AM, or even 3:00 AM if it's bad.

I've had insomnia for a few years. I treat it with sleeping pills, upping the dose every few months when I get too used to the current one. This summer I'm going to ask to try something different because my current dose of what I'm on right now is quite frankly ridiculous. The insomnia originally came up as a side effect on some heavy medication I was on and then it just never went away. I assume at this point it's mostly there because I expect it to be there and it's all in my head but... hey. Insomnia's insomnia no matter what the reason. :(

I tend to go to sleep at about the same time every night, give or take an hour, and I sign off of everything when I take my sleeping pill so that I can just relax as it kicks in. It helps me sleep faster since lights, especially off LCD screens, is terrible for winding down. I also try not to ingest caffeine within 4 hours of going to bed but that's more for show since I don't usually find that caffeine affects me at all anyway.

I have no problems getting to sleep once I'm in bed. Some nights I might toss and turn for like an hour, but I wouldn't call it insomnia. My biggest issue is getting to bed at a decent time. I just want to stay up and goof off. :( If I have to get up super early, I take OTC sleeping pills to force myself to bed.

These days, if I work the next day, I'll go to bed at midnight. It's unusual if I go to bed before 11.

I've been on a fairly normal schedule for myself lately. I usually wake up anytime between 6-10am and I usually go to bed between 11pm-1am. I really love the morning and the night, but I hate the time inbetween!!! I usually fall asleep within an hour of going to bed.

I go to bed relatively early on week days because I have early classes the next morning. On the weekends, I tend to stay up later because of no classes the next morning. But reguardless of what time I go to bed, when I do, I usually sleep pretty good. There are some nights where I wake up and can't fall back to sleep. For the most part though, I sleep through the night just fine!

During my depression last year, I had a hard time sleeping; my mind kept thinking about one subject then moved on to another then another and it practically forced me to stay up when I really wanted to sleep. Thankfully that phase is over, but I do have some bouts of insomnia here-and-there where I will find it hard to sleep. Because of my early classes this term though, it's kept me in a relatively standard routine from week-to-week so that helps with my sleep schedule.
