Does your high school mandate papers be written for every class?

For most classes, yeah.

We don't have to write papers for Math, but since we're learning math that is usually taught in grad school, it's bad enough as it is. In Comp Sci, we write code all the time so that counts as writing lol. In Engineering, we just... write more code.

Classes that do include writing a lot of papers are Drawing/Design, English (ofc), AP Gov, Bio, and French.

That should be all eight classes.

Eight holy hell. Is that like 40 minutes a class? Or are some of them only on certain days?

If it's all 8 in a day, that's barely enough time to actually learn anything (my middle school had 8 periods in a day). My high school had 5 classes a day and the extra half hour per class was useful and made it felt like I was actually learning once I got used to the extra time.

Yeah, it's a really weird schedule. We have "Even Days," and "Odd Days," in which our first, second, and fifth blocks are dependent on the parity of the day (even and odd days alternate, regardless of the actual date), while we have 5th, 6th, and 9th regardless. The first, second, and fifth blocks are 90 minutes long, while the ones we have everyday are 45 minutes long. Half of the school has 5th for lunch, while the other half has 6th. We have a 45 minute class on the non-lunch period. Only we magnets and CAP students have classes for 9th, so the non-magnets laze around the school for an hour or so until the buses arrive.

So on an odd day, it looks like:
1, 3, 5, 6, 7, 9
And on an even day:
2, 4, 5, 6, 8, 9

Ugh. I didn't even realize it was that bad.

One interesting property of 9th period classes is that everyone who participates is guaranteed to be magnet or CAP, of course. In freshman year, I had 9th period PE, which we dubbed "Magnet Gym," in which basically the entire class was studious Asians. We talked about integrals, algorithms, and weeb trash. It was really fun.
