Ooops, wrong generation!

I always set my Start menu to the Start button on the DS (in Platinum, in SoulSilver you don't have to :P ), so I rarely have that problem. I sometimes get confused and jab the Y button when I really should be pressing select. The lack of abilities occasionally catches me out in Gen II but not so much.

My biggest problem though is when I go back to Generation I. Every single time it catches me out. Scenario, monsieur:

Walk up to water, press A.

...

Press A.

...

Press A.

...

Start jabbing A persistently and wondering why it isn't working.

...

Getting rather frustrated. Keep hitting A.

...

Eventually remember that that feature wasn't in Generation I and go in through the menu, slightly embarrassed.

That catches me out all the time. I get it with Cut trees and Strength rocks too. I swear the A button on my GameBoy Colour is jammed in by now. :)

I remember one time I was playing Pokemon, and I wasn't enjoying it as much as I usually do. Then I realised I was playing Pokemon Pearl.

*Ba-dum-tiissshh*

In all seriousness though, I have a habit of pressing select in 1st Gen games to get on the bicycle or use the super rod, and then realising it doesn't work that way in Gen I.

I do this all the time. It's part of the reason I feel uneasy playing earlier games. I won't attack electric types directly for fear they'll paralyze me, I'll sort of avoid inflicting psychic types with status effects since I can't remember if they have Synchronize, I ALWAYS forget that steel doesn't exist in gen 1, and when playing gen 1 I'm always watching for shinies. XD;

...I also often think "Why don't I just play gen 3 again? I can use Cherrim to make the game more enjoyable... oh wait". D:

When I'm playing Sapphire Verison, I often forget about the Special/Physical split. It's quite terrible.

Sometimes I forget about it but every time that I open my bag while playing Sapphire, I notice that there's no pictures next to each item.

Now, it may be a minor detail, but it annoys me soooo much. :( I think that pictures next to the items was introduced in the FR/LG games...?

But yes, that is very annoying, yet not important. Oh, the little things in life.

I was trying to teach a certain move to my Venusaur in Fire Red, but I forgot that the tm didn't release until Generation IV.

I definitely do the X/Start mixup all the time when swapping between DS/GBA cartridges. However I never forget about the physical/special split because, to my shame, I was NEVER good at remember which types were physical/special, bad in the day. There were some that I just could never recall.

So I always get a bit frustrated when replaying FRLG or RSE (I don't play the truly old games) because of that. Too annoying to forget!

I've done this before, I remember I taught my Dusclops Shadow Punch in XD because my Dusknoir on HG
runs SP, due to the Physical/Special split. I also grinded a Crobat for a while in Crystal, hoping it would learn Poison Fang.
Of course, I finally check it's level up moves, I kick myself when I realize Poison Fang is a Gen III move.

Oh, oh! Something that I mess up with nearly all the time is remembering that Dark type moves are only considered as Sp.Attack in Gen II and III, and split into both Attack and Sp.Attack stats from Gen IV onwards. I've started to get better at catching myself with that lately though, because I mostly train dark types nowadays. Still, it can be a problem for me.

I knew there was something else, but I can't quite remember what it was...

while playing emerald on my DS, i keep tapping my touch screen to access the pokemon menu or to choose an attack. I always forget that i'm playing a 3rd gen game and not HG/SS.

I do this a lot as well. xD I also tap the top screen, but that's just me being dumb

Sometimes I forget that Sinnoh contests have more to them than Hoenn contests and then I'm all like "WHOA what is going on here".

It happens to me all the time. Switching from Silver to Platinum, it gets confusing! I keep forgetting that in Silver you can't have abilities, and Sneasel doesn't evolve. xD

Yeah, I tend to do this with moves and TMS & HMS when playing older games, I think oh, I can teach ____ this move, but then I realise that the TM or move is in a later game :(
