    [PokeCommunity.com] Orange Islands reference (?)

This is a picture from the orange islands series.
I saw it after browsing the bulbapedia.
And It looks almost like Castelia City

Do you think nintendo decided to give Orange islands a Cameo?
    Or just coincedence?

Definite coincidence. They don't look *that* similar to me to begin with beyond 'city by water' - the buildings are positioned differently and we already know what it is actually based off too.

That and Game Freak stopped basing stuff on the anime (which is actually the canon that copies the games) since Yellow when it was merely riding off its own popularity, and that goes for Orange Islands, a filler story arc. Case in point - instead of using the Orange Islands in FR/LG... they made their own Sevii Islands.

It looks like a coincidence. Orange Islands look more flat and spread out, while Castelia is all tight and busy and jumbled (not that it's not still awesome ;P).

People said the same thing about the city Mewtwo was in was Castelia. And the reason being it's a big city and faraway. Neither the city with Metwo in it nor this port city is Castelia.

There is no actual gaming series based on the Orange Islands so there must have been a idea taken from that to design Castelia City

i think its just a coincidence that the two cities look alike.

Why 'must there been an idea taken' from the Orange Islands arc? Again, we already know it is based off America (New York), and there's very little reason for Game Freak to based a city off a short moment seen in the anime series in a filler arc about a decade ago if not more, especially when they have not used the Anime that since Yellow. The games are fairly separate from the anime now - note the anime bases itself off the games with its own additions to it, rather than the other way around, and there's an awful lot of places in the anime that has never turned up in the games.

And again, there's not that much to differ in general appearance between a port city with skyscrapers and...another port city with skyscrapers, but that's basically as far as the similarities go - the buildings themselves in terms of details look different, B/W's one is circular in the port structure, it has a bridge seen in it unlike the orange islands place...

Well, I am suprised they look so much similer, just look at the building, they even seem to have the same sort of effect, including that Pokémon center, that building behind it looks the same too.

I think it's more than coincidence. Either way, it may be set out to seem as if it's based on new york, but they could have used that city as a layout, it seems reasonable. But, that's how I see it at least.

Considering that all "major" cities have "skyscrapers" and are clumped together... It's probably a coincidence. Just because the orange isles have a skyscrapers and Castalia does as well, does NOT mean they are the same thing.
But they do look similar. But I still stand by it's a coincidence.

If Nintendo truly wanted to make the Orange Islands a cameo, they would of announced it. I think its just a coincidence

At first glance, they have their similarities. Looking closer at it, it's not hard to tell the two cities have their distinct differences. They're just two large cities located next to the water. Definitely a coincidence if you ask me.

The Orange Islands one actually looks like a legit Earth city, like Chicago or NYC. Castelia City looks more deliberately intimidating and foreboding. Besides, how often IRL do you see a curved bridge? A curved pedestrian bridge, no less?

It's definitely not a coincidence because the game developers know what the Orange Islands look like so it could have been loosely based on that or both locations were based on the same place. Reference it is not though.

Maybe they just recycled the visuals. Its fairly common to do that in both Anime and Videogame companies. Also for some that don't know. The anime and the Game are done by two separate groups within the same company, similar to the trading Cards so they never correlate with each other but since they don't they can recycle each other's ideas more freely.

Also...Unova/Castillia Wasn't based off of America/Manhattan. It was INSPIRED by them. There is a difference. Being based means that its pretty much a solid copy with minor tweaks while inspired means it gave birth to an idea that was open enough to leave the original inspiration intact while constantly developing and evolving the idea into the finished project.
