I haven't been asked paper or plastic since... I'd probably say the commissary over in Germany. The grocery store we usually go to now sometimes asks if plastic's okay, but we always get plastic. Easier to carry up the stairs, and we hoard the bags anyway, usually for trash. Only time we got paper bags was when we had to make book covers, anyway, and I'd have to remind the parents to get them. My family must have something against paper.

If given a choice between paper and plastic, I'd take paper to be more environmentally friendly (although, that's killing trees. So, what the hey).

There are recycle plastic bags. But grocery stores don't use them, instead you either have to buy a reusable cloth bag for a $1 and pay 5 cents for every plastic bag they give you.

I'm okay with the cloth bags for most things. But I do not want to put meat or fish in those. If I can avoid having to wash the thing, I will. So, I grab extra plastic bags from the fruit and vegetable area to wrap the meat and fish XD

And I forget the damn cloth bag in the car half the time.

I've been asked every time I go to the store and I always say plastic because I just don't like box-like things, except for cereal, and I choose plastic because you can fit more into the bag.

I assume you guys have never worked in a grocery store eh? Well I did the job for awhile and as a grocery bagger we loved using plastic. It was easier to work with, cheaper than paper, and no paper cuts!

With that said I like plastic better (can re use to pack lunches, as a trash bag, carry anonymous junk..) but the store I help run we only use paper bags. Which is fine.

I vastly prefer plastic bags, and it's just as easy to be 'green' and still use plastic bags
(Save them, put them in the plastic recycling bin, re-use them around the house until they fall apart...ect..)

I prefer paper bags. Plastic always makes me feel like the bag is going to rip, and it also makes me feel like a custodian. (Don't ask) The fact that paper bags are considered better for the environment is a plus as well. =D I just feel like paper bags are more sturdy and cool than plastic ones. Sadly, I think most of the bags that the rest of my family uses are plastic. >.>;

Plastic. they don't rip as easily as the paper, & I use them to line my trash cans & stuff at home

Paper > plastic.

Paper is more environmentally friendly and it's harder to print assignments on to plastic :3

I avoid bags altogether if I can. Not to mention you are likelier to get plastics bags here if you asked for one.

I like the paper bags they're now using in HMV, and the ones they use in our local newsagents, but on the whole I prefer plastic. Especially when you have loads of groceries to carry home. D:

Plastic.
You can fit more stuff in it.
Depends on the size of the paper bag in comparison. For instance, at my store, if the bagger uses a paper bag, the amount that can fit in it is more than if only plastic is used. At our competitors, however, their paper bags are so small that it makes no difference if paper or plastic is used.

As for which one I prefer: both. Put the paper inside the plastic, and it's easy to carry and can hold a lot of items. Plus, the items inside are less likely to fall out if both are used. My family and I reuse both kinds of bags or recycle them when we go shopping.

I've never seen a grocery store here that offers paper bags. o_O

At any rate, they recently passed a law in Ontario that insists all grocery stores charge for bags. So for every plastic bag I use, I'm charged $0.05. Thus I'm often asked if I'll need any bags since so many people have taken to bringing reusable tote bags for groceries. Unless I've forgotten to toss it into my backpack and I'm picking up groceries on the way home, I usually have one with me. Though sometimes I don't mind buying a few plastic bags since I do use them a fair bit here at home. (As garbage bags or to carry stuff in, whoo~)

Yes, I like plastic better than paper.

Plastic,it's more reusable than paper.
