It really depends on who I am talking to. If I have to ring up the bank or some other institution where I have no idea who the hell it is on the other end of the line, I start getting weird with that cutesy, friendly voice that I've mentioned here before. Stutters, lumps in throats etc. probably because it's a formal situation with a stranger, I get nervous whether it's on the phone or irl.
if it's someone I've spoken to before, no problem at all. I'm not surprised a lot of people find the phone awkward, it's sort of in the middle between personal (they can hear your voice) and impersonal (it's not face to face) so it's a bit of a strange situation.
