Ah, that's good. I never finished Guardian Signs, but the Mystery Dungeon Explorers games are definitely worth your time. (= And considering how overpriced most older Pokémon games are nowadays that's not very shabby.
 
Yeah absolutely. I finished PMD Darkness but I'll give my sister Time and I'll be replaying Sky.

As for Guardian signs, if it's half as good as is the Shadows of Almia, its gonna be awesome :D
 
It's been ages since I had played any Mystery Dungeon game, unfortunately. I have been planning to give their latest one a go for the past few months (can't exactly put my finger on what its name is right now), but haven't managed to get around to it as of yet. Though, I've heard some good things about it, and hopefully, will give it a run at some point in future!

As for which PMD title is my most favorite, this would likely have to be Explorers of Sky; have gone through it a few times, and it has never seemed to grow stale in my eyes. Sky is a great game all-around, if you ask me, especially for a spin-off.
 
Ah yes, mine too. (: Sky had so much to do, and there were so many dungeons and different Pokémon to get. It overhauled the mechanics from the original games, and while it did leave some things out from the Rescue Team games I still have my copy of Sky from a few years back and may come back to it sometime.
 
When it comes to the Pokemon Mystery Dungeon games, I have to choose Explorers of Time as my favorite since it was the first Pokemon Mystery Dungeon game I both owned and played. As for Pokemon Ranger Guardian Signs, even though it was the third Pokemon Ranger game I owned, it was the only one I have beaten.
 
I only played through Shadows of Almia (the Sinnoh game) once, but I did enjoy my time with it and there were improvements from the first game. Despite that I played the first game more than a few times when it was present. SoA made some notable adjustments, such as not needing to make the entire capture one loop, and the bosses felt more unique and less frustrating. That horrible Entei as the finale of the first games...
 
Glad to hear you all liked them. I played Darkness and ever since wanted to play Sky just for the extra stuff. The game is absolutely amazing and only PMD can bringout any real emotions out from me. Not just among Pokemon games but among any game I've ever played :D
Pokemon ranger too, just not to the same extent, together with the rest of the Pokemon Franchise.

I am also just about to finish Pokemon Soulsilver and then play Pokemon white for the first time lol
 
A Generation V newcomer, are you? Between BW's various aspects such as exclusively new Pokémon, and most importantly its plot, there have been a lot of division on it even today. Me personally, it's high among my favorites in the series, and there was a period of time where I used to hate it because people were hamming it up to be the best thing ever while completely trashing B2W2. That one deserved way more credit than it got.
 
Yeah, newcomer here lol.
I started my Pokemon marathon starting with Pokemon Yellow last year, I have been playing Soulsilver for 3 months now which is kind of a lot. I will probably take a brief pause after this one before moving on to White (I might only do some Emerald cloning and Platinum shiny chaining).
I dont know where to put PMD Sky and Guardian signs cos they jumped in unexpectedly lol but I'll figure it out.

I actually read a lot online about how fifth generation is great and I am actually really looking forward to it, specifically cos its the first Pokemon game I'll be playing that I didnt at least try playing. I know almost nothing about it except for its Pokemon. So yeah, I definitely am looking forward to it :D
 
OH MAN!!

I just spent AN HOUR (ish) battling Lance! Dragonair being the only lvl 50, all the others being below.
Gyarados was 38 and he took some huge hits and gave some even bigger.
Also Umbreon is such a tank what the heck! (my team was the one in my signature)
Anyway, I have finally (not that I was trying that hard till today) beaten Indigo league in SS. Such a relief. This was harder that Cynthia lmao.
Anyway, I rarely feel so good about doing something virtually related, but this felt gooood.
 
Which game are you playing, Sven, HGSS? Yeah, Lance was sort of difficult in this one; it'd taken me about five tries to get him defeated when I had faced him in Pokémon League during my first run, haha. In my second play-through, though, I took things more carefully, and had my team leveled-up enough, so thankfully, he didn't wind up to be as difficult as he was in the first.

Also, as for spin-offs, aside from Mystery Dungeon series, I really, really Pokémon XD. It's got shadow Pokémon, which I believe is quite an interesting feature; although I don't remember much about it, if I'm not mistaken, one thing about this is that this would give certain Pokémon an alternative form, which would allow it to have slightly different(?) stats as well as access to a different move-pool. Plus, their skin would be dark alongside, which is a rather cool touch, if you ask me.

I believe it would have been nice had this feature made it into main-series titles instead of mega-evolution. Although megas aren't bad, I feel that shadow Pokémon have more of an unique vibe.
 
Yes I'm playing HGSS.
Honestly, heaving decently leveled Pokemon makes it easier, but there is no better feeling then beating someone who has a much stronger team.
I mean, he has three Dragonairs.
I had a Dragonair with Draco meteor and Dragon rush, but it was slower then all three Dragonites. And Gyarados (12 levels less then Lance's Pokemon) with Blizzard.
Haunter saves my ass tbh.
And Arcanine, he didnt hit much, but he took enough hits for me to heal all the Pokemon I needed to heal.

I spent about 15 revives, several max revives and max potions, bunch of super and hyper potions, all in one battle.

This is going to ctick it for me so it was definitely worth it :D

Yeah, Lance could be a bit tiresome to face. I've wound up using just as much items when going up against the guy; it was kind of unbelievable. Though, who I found to be even more tough than him is Red and Mountain Silver. Although for some, it was a piece of cake, he was quite difficult on my end. All of his Pokémon seemed to have been more bulky than average, making them withstand more hits, and on top of that, they were also hard-hitting; one attack would deal a good portion of damage. I was finally able to get this person defeated mostly thanks to Gyarados; it's set up a few Dragon Dance, and took out some of his team members. Others then came in, and finished off the job.

Battle Frontier Brains are also challenging; going up against these people head-to-head could be even more tough, as we're not allowed to use any items at all, if I'm not mistaken. Their team might consist of only three Pokémon (and so would ours), which would save some time and have us end the battle earlier, but it's still difficult nonetheless!

In HeartGold and SoulSilver, I've defeated only two Frontier Brains in total, I believe.
 
Ah yes, Gyarados with Dragon Dance can beat Lance almost single-handedly, but that's not for Level 44 (which he said he hadn't reached). Having a Mamoswine with the Choice Scarf makes the Dragonites easy mode basically, but doesn't fare as good against Charizard and Gyarados.

In Heart Gold I think I beat all the Frontier brains before I wiped my save, and I know I have all five on my main Platinum version. Never even reached any of the brains for the Gold rank, though.

Just adding a few more bits...

Not to mention that luck also plays a HUGE factor for some facilities (idk if there are any "exploits" or "RNG" abuse to get over these, but I'm talking about playing the vanilla way), such as the Palace, Pyramid and the Pike. Factory and Arena being gimmicky - in an interesting way, that is - but doesn't require as much luck as the previous mentioned.

Oh and, not all facilities actually prevent the use of items. For example, the Battle Tower has always allowed hold items for as long as they're not being held by two or more pokemon. On the other hand, the Battle Castle (Gen IV) and the Battle Pyramid (Gen III) remove all items in your inventory (and held items), but within the facilities themselves you may find/purchase items to use in or out of battle, and even equip!

There's also the World Tournament in B2/W2, which is a better version of Battle tower, with a pinch of Factory somewhere within.

So how about that for a little bit of spice and challenge in your epic adventure?

On a side note...I've never really got into Gen IV's frontiers (might do so someday) - except for the factory, although i did manage to get all gold symbols on my first (but now gone) pokemon Emerald save. How i wish i took a picture at least ='( took forever to get those. Oh god, the Battle Palace. *shivers*
 
Ugh, luck is sometimes such a bad thing to rely on, but sometimes also the only one.
Since none of my Pokemon were faster than Dragonite, I could only rely on two things.
Dragonite's outrage and self-confusion. (which ended up in hurting itself MOST of the times), and
Haunter Hypnosis. I've used it bunch of times, missed only once, which was crucial.

You guys talking about all of that make me realize how much Im missing in games, even from playing through it very slowly so I could enjoy lol.
 
The goal to catch-em-all, contests, competitive battling, EVs/IVs, safaris, breeding, these facilities, mega-evolution...well, welcome to the world of pokemon! Hahaha.

Don't worry, just enjoy it as you do right now. It all sinks in over time. Some of us probably are just YEARS ahead of you, hence why you see it that way - but you shouldn't, really.

That's a pretty nostalgic team you have btw. My first team (Yellow) had Haunter (that also played an important role in the team) and Pidgeot, while my first silver team had Umbreon in it. The Elite Four definitely were tough during those times as well and I'm sure we've all been through it. I got swooped by the 8th gym leader, Claire, many times...since typhlosion was my strongest and was not good against her Dragons, moreso Kingdra. I also lost once or twice to Lance in the same Silver run, due to the surprise of THREE dragonites and an aerodactyl to boot, which once again, my Typhlosion was weak against. I'm pretty sure it was lv62 or 63 when i finally beat the game...lol. I could even remember training a Rhyhorn to a Rhydon (caught in Victory Road..to Horn Drill/OHKO a Dragonite or two) as well on that run, and using lots of revives (literally waited until dragonites' PP and HP, from confusion, got depleted), to finally get through.

These moments are among the best memories of pokemon we could probably keep. So you're doing just fine. lol.

Lol yeah, I agree.

And thanks. This would be my ultimate dream team actually. No matter how awesome Pokemon from new generations are, nothing beats these.
The closest some Pokemon replacing them got were Mightyena/Absol instead of Umbreon, and Sharpedo instead of Gyarados. Long story short, these prevailed lol. And yeah, kinda funny how all of them, with umbreon being an exception, are from the first Gen. :D
 
Hmm..i do see where that's coming from. Most of my faves come from Gen I-II, specifically (The pidgey line's my favorite bird pokemon!) But generally speaking, I think "it only gets better." For example, I've become so obsessed with bugs when I started challenge runs years ago, so seeing new pokemon of those types have since been thrilling. Some love the newer cutesies, some the new dragons. I would have to juggle around every new guy to see who among them will I end up really liking.

I'd suggest trying a few challenge runs in the challenge forum, for that matter. When you get used to the game a bit more and have a ton of time to spare, that is... cause some are incredibly hardcore. lol. They introduce you teams that you've never imagined before. Who knows, some new team you form there may add to (or even replace) your current one!
