Simply hold the space bar to get the game to run fast and wait for 15-45 seconds and it will load up
I had the same problem and it worked for me

till now i pressed STRG + S to save and STRG + L to load(on a german keyboard) i think on the english one it is CTRL (= STRG) (but i'm not sure)

Patch it to a clean Fire Red ROM and it would work.
