[Sorry that this is a bit short.]

And finally the ball calmed, and Rayne bent down to pick it up. A flap of wings and Spearow landed on the ground in front of her, and yet Rayne still jumped. She spun the Weedle's Pokeball in hand, looking down at her own Spearow a bit cautiously. But why would she do that – her Spearow was loyal to her and didn't wish harm onto her.

"Well, looks like I caught another Pokemon," Rayne said, looking down at Weedle's Pokeball.

"(How many is that now, Rayne?)" Spearow asked, and Rayne looked at her Pokemon with unblinking green eyes.

"Six," Rayne said.

"(Does that mean you can't catch any more Pokemon?)" Spearow asked.

"Actually, it means the opposite," Rayne said. "I'm allowed to carry as many Pokemon as I choose to. Professor Oak said there isn't a limit to how many I can have at one time."

"(That's awesome then!)" Spearow outstretched its wings and flew up towards Rayne's shoulder, but Rayne flinched away. Spearow's expression dropped, realizing what it did. "(Sorry, Rayne.)"

"I-it's alright," Rayne said, shaking away her uneasiness. "You-" But something else had caught her attention. This small area was teaming with all sorts of Pokemon!

A Caterpie was slithering its way out on the grass.

"A Caterpie," Rayne grinned.

"(Do you want me to go get it?)" Spearow asked, but Rayne shook her head.

"I want to see what Weedle can do," Rayne said. With her free hand she retrieved Spearow's Pokeball and raised it up to the Pokemon. "Return." In a beam of red light, Spearow was transported into the ball.

Rayne took the time to look at Weedle's Pokeball. "I know you just got out of battle with Spearow, and you may still be weak, but this Caterpie should be a piece of cake for you." She looked up at the Caterpie that actually had noticed her, but it wasn't moving from its spot.

"Alright," Rayne threw the ball forward. "Go, Weedle!" In a flash of white light, her little orange bug materialized on the ground in front of Caterpie. "Begin this with String Shot. Tie it to the ground."

A long thread-like substance shot out of Weedle' mouth, immediately contacting with Caterpie, sticking it to the grassy ground completely. "Now, use Poison Sting while it's stuck there!"

Weedle lunged forward and began to attack with its Poison Sting in place, and the Caterpie couldn't move – its eyes were squeezed tight and it squirmed as it took every single attack the Weedle was throwing at it. It tried to retaliate – trying to smash its head into Weedle with its own Tackle attack, but the String Shot held it in place.

"Now, back away, Weedle," Rayne commanded and her bug wormed back as Rayne took an empty Pokeball from her bag. She enlarged it and threw it forward, and the Caterpie was transported inside. The ball began to shake…

And Weedle wiggled over to make itself comfortable on top of Rayne's shoe, eyeing the Pokeball as it shook.

[This is the first post of two of a battle between Jett and Rayne on Route 22. First post is posted by Starsprite, second part by Royal.]

Jett wasn't even sure there was a need to go to the Pokemon Center this time. All it took was a potion for his newfound Caterpie to be all better, and there was really nothing worth making the trip back to Viridian for. That wasn't to say that the young trainer had anything in mind for what to do on Route 22 right now, having caught all the Pokemon he had any desire to catch at this point. What he really needed to do was train the Pokemon he had with him right now.

Sure, there was always finding wild Pokemon and battling them, but it was somewhat unethical, Jett thought, to just knock them unconscious and leave them laying out in the middle of the route. What Jett wanted was a trainer battle. He had no problem with beating up someone else's Pokemon.

Route 22 was pretty much devoid of trainers though, something that came as a great hindrance to his ability to find a trainer to battle, and he wasn't sure how much he wanted to try and pick a fight with someone who was going to either the League or Mt. Silver, so he decided that, in the end, maybe going back to Viridian was the best for his team after all.

After deciding that it would just so happen that he saw the trainer he wanted to battle with, a girl who apparently fought using a Weedle. Jett watched her catching a wild Pokemon, and, sensing an easy target, decided to approach. On closer inspection she wasn't so much of a girl, and more of a woman. That really didn't deter Jett, in any case, because he was certain that this would be an easy win.

He started to shuffle over to her, suddenly stopped in his tracks by the feeling of his heart being seized up by the crippling shyness he'd had all his life. He clenched his fists, letting out a more than angry sounding shout to the woman, "Hey! Battle me."

Being hostile was really the only way he knew how to not be shy.

He tried to reaffirm this with direct eye contact, but ended up making a kind of awkward gaze at whatever scenery was behind her instead, It was the same in principal, right?

With the Caterpie caught, Rayne retrieved Weedle's Pokeball and recalled the bug Pokemon, as well as adding Caterpie's Pokeball with the rest. It was well close to ten in the morning now, and Rayne thought this would be a good time to go back down to Viridian City and heal her Pokemon as well as call Professor Oak and her parents. But someone else had something in mind.

Green eyes turned to the much younger kid, who too seemed to have started out on his journey. But he looked much awkward – one of those kids who charged his way into battling, and maybe didn't care too much on the well-being of his Pokemon. But she could be wrong.

"Sorry kid, but not at this moment," Rayne said with a shake of her head. "But if you meet me down at the Viridian City Pokemon Center in, let's say – an hour and a half – I'll gladly take you up on that challenge." She smiled warmly before turning and beginning to walk back towards the entrance of Route 22 and the way to Viridian.

Being denied a battle was hardly what Jett had expected, and it seemed the shyness began to overcome him again. Wasn't that all that shyness was: a fear of rejection? The fifteen year old was, as usual, being far too melodramatic about the entire thing. He took things far too personally, and this was no exception.

"Oh, running away from a challenge?" Jett spat. Even for him this behavior was going a little overboard.

He glared at the woman, though her back was turned, and proceeded to say, "Then I guess you're just like everyone else. A wimp like you probably doesn't even deserve to be a trainer."

And when those words were said, Rayne stopped in her tracks, and though he couldn't see, her expression twisted into a half-smile. "Confident much?" she says with a grin turning to him with arms crossed over her chest. "Fine then. I'll take you on and make this quick. Four on four sound good for you?"

Her smile slowly fades as she looks at the younger, confident boy. Maybe it was about time to put him in his place and teach him the bad outcomes of over-confidence. "You can choose first."

"Four on four," Jett agreed, digging out Luca's Pokeball. "I fully intend to back up this confidence."

He tossed his Tepig's ball, letting the little Pokemon out. Luca, as if sensing his trainer's feelings was poised to fight, although he seemed to be considerably more cheery about it than Jett. "Te!" it cried, a small amount of smoke coming from its nose as it did.

"Your turn."

Rayne nodded at the choice of a Tepig. So this boy was another one of the kids that got a Pokemon from Professor Oak. Good to note.

Rayne reached into one of her packets of her jacket and withdrew a Pokeball, enlarging it. Her expression, cool and collected, was difficult to read. "I'll start off with you, Shellshock." The Pokeball was thrown forward and in front of the Tepig, in a flash of white light materialized Shellshock, a Squirtle.

"Alright, Shellshock, let's begin with a Water Gun," Rayne commanded and Shellshock immediately opened its mouth and a torrent of water shot out towards the fire pig.

Oh it just had to be a water type, didn't it?

"Luca! Dodge the attack!" Jett ordered his Pokemon, using hand gestures, as he had in a battle once before, for direction. Even with directions from his trainer the Tepig was unable to dodge fully, however, and the back half of his body was hit even as he tried to escape.

The pressure of the water sent the fire type tumbling back, but it managed to get back up anyways. "Ugh. Tackle," directed Jett, knowing that Luca's most powerful attack, ember, wouldn't work in this situation.

Rayne watched as the attack hit, and there was a smile on Shellshock's face as the Tepig stumbled back. As the Tepig began its Tackle attack, rushing forward, Rayne took a breath.

"Shellshock, run at it, then use Withdraw. Spin and then use your Water Gun strategy," Rayne commanded and Shellshock nodded, running forward as the Tepig raced towards it. And when they were only a few inches away, Shellshock withdrew into his shell, and suddenly water began to shoot out of all the holes, the shell spinning towards the Tepig. It was Shellshock's signature spinning Water Gun.

Tepig flew back again as it was not only blasted by water but hit by a shell, bringing an embarrassing conclusion to its time in the battle.

"Get up," growled Jett, but to no avail. He was quickly becoming more and more frustrated, especially with the loss of his first Pokemon. He called it back to its ball, exchanging it for the next Pokeball he planned to use.

The first round went to Rayne pretty easily with the defeat of the Tepig. Shellshock looked hardly injured, even if at all winded. Rayne raised its Pokeball up. "Return." And Shellshock was transported back into its Pokeball.

She quickly switched Shellshock's Pokeball with another one and threw it out. "Your turn, Pidgey," the ball opened in a flash of light and her brown and tan flying Pokemon appeared in the air, flapping its wings, ready for whatever was thrown at it.

"Go!" Jett tossed the ball containing Tom, his Hoothoot.

For two flying types to go against each other meant that there would have to be a real show of skill, as there were no type advantages. The owl-like Pokemon showed up in a flash of white light, hopping on one leg.

This time it was Jett's turn to start off. "Tom, use Peck!' he instructed, causing the Hoothoot to leap into the air, coming down beak first at its flying type opponent.

"Let it hit, Pidgey," Rayne commanded and the Hoothoot hit, sending the two Flying types tumbling to the ground. Pidgey hopped to its feet. "Counter now with Sand Attack." The Pidgey began to kick up a large dust cloud in front of the Hoothoot, and then-

"Now, Gust and knock it far," Rayne commanded. A sudden change in Pidgey's flapping began to kick up a twister-like wind, spinning and sending high winds towards the Hoothoot, the dust cloud still clinging a few inches above the ground.

As the cloud of sand began to surround Hoothoot, it's eyes flashed. "Hoothoots have extremely good eyesight," Jett laughed, "it's an ability called Keen Eye."

Then to his Pokemon he called, "Use Tackle directly in to the gust, but angle it," again with the hand gestures, "this way." The owl Pokemon did, although the action seemed somewhat painful, and ended up spinning around to be directly in front of Pidgey.

"Now use Hypnosis!" came Jett's second order, causing hypnotic rings of light came from the Hoothoot's eyes.

"Yeah, I know about Keen Eye," Rayne said with her arms still crossed over her chest. "My Pidgey has it too." She watched as the Hoothoot's Hypnosis was quickly approaching Pidgey. "Pidgey, use Quick Attack and dodge it."

Pidgey's form seemed to blur and it was out of the way before the Hoothoot's Hypnosis got to it. And it appeared flying behind the Hoothoot. "Tackle it." And Pidgey dived, intent to knock straight into the other bird Pokemon.

Neither Hoothoot nor Jett were expecting the attack, only able to watch as Hoothoot was smacked down in to the ground face first.

The owl Pokemon was resilient though, able to hop back up, though it in a considerably worse condition than it was moments ago. A call of, "Use foresight!" came from Jett.

Foresight allowed Hoothoot to see Pidgey's future movements, allowing for it to land a hit without it being dodged, and Jett was in desperate need of a hit right now. Hoothoot spun around, watching for a place to hit. "And another Peck!"

Hoothoot jumped forward, repeating its dive bomb move, but this time in the direction where Pidgey was headed, and not directly at the bird itself.

And Hoothoot's attack hit, knocking Pidgey to the ground and making the bird roll towards Rayne's feet. But it wasn't ready to go down. It was still pumping and ready to fight.

"Gust," Rayne commanded, and the Pidgey kicked off the ground, bringing up heavy winds that quickly spiraled toward the Hoothoot. "Now Quick Attack, now." As the Gust headed straight for the Hoothoot, Pidgey took its opportunity – it quickly vanished and appeared at Hoothoot's side before diving forward in hopes to knock into it.

Hoothoot again had no time to prepare, getting hit from behind by the quick attack and being knocked directly into the gust in front of it. It was all over for the owl Pokemon then, having taken too many hits to stay standing.

It was tossed back over to Jett's side by the gust, falling unconscious. Hoothoot had fainted.

"Return," he grumbled, having lost yet another matchup. Well he had a plan for this next one, and he had absolutely no intentions of losing.

"Go! Jigglypuff," he called having fished out its Pokeball from his bag. The pink Pokemon popped out of its ball with a, "Jiggly!" instantly ready to fight.

"Return Pidgey," Rayne said, lifting up its Pokeball. The bird Pokemon, who looked extremely worn out, was transported back inside. Rayne took the third Pokeball off her jacket and enlarged it.

"You sure you don't just want to end it right here?" Rayne asked with a roll of her shoulders. But she still threw the Pokeball forward. "Nidoran, you're up."

In a flash of white light, her Nidoran girl stood in front of the Jigglypuff, at the ready.

"You can attack first." Rayne offered.

[This is the second post of two of a battle between Jette and Rayne on Route 22. First post is posted by Starsprite, second part by Royal. It says Post 5 because I also counted the post Starsprite made.]

Jett took that opportunity readily, shouting out, "Pound, now!" He was starting to act more and more irrationally, it seemed, as things kept not going his way.

Jigglypuff complied, running at the Nidoran girl and building up momentum for a hit.

"Nidoran, let it hit, and then counter it with Double Kick," Rayne had a plan, and if her plan succeeded, she would easily take this match.

Nidoran did as she was told and let the Jigglypuff's attack hit on target, but Nidoran quickly got back onto her feet. She was pretty strong for a little thing.

And then she began forward, lunging at top speed before turning around and aiming her two feet towards Jett's Pokemon.

"Dodge," was Jett's instant command, and his Jigglypuff obeyed hopping out of the way. The pink Pokemon seemed to be full of energy, but unknown to either Poremon or trainer it was all about to all go downhill.

"Quick, before it can attack again!" called Jett, "Use sing!"

The fifteen year old knew full well the power of this attack, having been knocked out by it before. Fortunately he was almost certain it wouldn't affect either trainer this time. Well only one way to find out.

Jigglypuff started to sing.

Rayne didn't let her cool and collected expression change as Nidoran stopped in her tracks, turning to face the Jigglypuff after her attack missed. She'd know soon enough if her strategy worked.

But due to Jigglypuff's singing, Nidoran's ears seemed to droop, and she was slowly swaying while still standing. Her eye lids drooped before she fell to the ground, sleeping like she had the night before, stretched out over the ground.

Rayne would wait a bit before calling to wake it up.

Jett's eyes narrowed at the fact that his opponent was not making moved to attempt to wake her Pokemon, but decided to call his Pokemon to attack anyways.

"Pound again," he commanded, watching as Jigglypuff charged at Nidoran again. He noticed its movements were a little slow. They would have to work on speed. All of his Pokemon needed work, it seemed.

Rayne watched as the Pound attack quickly hit Nidoran, sending her poison Pokemon rolling across the ground before landing stomach down on the ground. Its ears twitched before eyes began to open slowly, very slowly, enough so that it gave the Jigglypuff enough time to attack again.

Jett was getting even more suspicious, but continued on. "One more pound!"

And Jigglypuff backed up and ran at the Nidoran again, it's movements swaying, obviously, to everyone but it's trainer, not feeling very good.

But due to the Jigglypuff's swaying movements, Nidoran had enough time to bring herself to her feet and her shake the sleep off of her.

"Good," Rayne nodded with a small grin. "Let's finish this with a Poison Sting." Nidoran lunged forward, attempting to Headbutt the Jigglypuff with its horn.

"Dodge it," Jett ordered lazily, and having not noticed his Pokemon's condition was very surprised to see that his Pokemon could not follow said order.

In fact, it seemed that the pink Pokemon was so out of it that it kept on running directly into the Nidoran's horn, knocking itself out. "What the?!"

"What did you do?" he hissed, calling back his Jigglypuff, mindlessly readying his last Pokemon.

"Your Jigglypuff was poisoned. I am surprised you couldn't tell," Rayne explained as she raised her Pokeball and recalled Nidoran, giving her a few good words before placing her Pokeball in the others and getting the next. "My Nidoran's ability is Poison Point. There's a chance with a physical attack from the opponent that it will become poisoned."

She took a small breath, hesitating with the last Pokeball, but quickly shook away the feeling, throwing it forward. In a flash of light, her Spearow appeared, ready for battle. "You sure you don't want to give up?"

"Of course I don't want to give up," spat Jett, only realizing how incredibly stupid his words were as he sent out his Caterpie, a bug type.

He didn't even know if the think knew tackle, at he was about to use it against a flying type. But to give up now would-

"Well make your move," growled the boy, an intense glare upon his face. At this point he was akin to a child throwing a temper tantrum, emotions running high, and his sense of logic entirely absent.

Rayne only shrugged. "Sure," she said. "Spearow, use Aerial Ace and take out that bug." Her Spearow immediately flew up into the air, spinning while its wings were outstretched, and after gathering enough momentum, dove down, wings outstretched, diving straight for the Caterpie.

It hit, and that was all it took. Jett didn't even have time to speak before Caterpie fainted, falling limp on the ground.

Something changed right then in Jett's eyes. Such a humiliating defeat on his first ever battle, added to the fact that his confidence had betrayed him had caused something to change, if only slightly. But from the words he said as he called back his Caterpie it seemed as if the change was for the negative, rather then a step towards humbling him.

"It's because my Pokemon were too weak... Maybe I was mistaken in all of this, treating them too softly. That's why we lost."

Rayne only shook her head, and recalled Spearow, tucking the Pokemon's Pokeball away back in her jacket. "No, that's not why you lost." Rayne began. "One, you were too over-confident, and two, you weren't connected with your Pokemon."

Rayne took a breath and began to turn towards the entrance to Route 22 back to Viridian City. "An example is with your Jigglypuff. You had no idea it was poisoned while I did, and I'm not even its trainer. You need to spend more time with your Pokemon, understand them, and then you'll truly understand why you lost."

And then she began to walk off, leaving Jett behind on the route, defeated and humiliated…

Act I, Chapter V
Day 2
Century walked up towards the Pokéball, before slowly picking it up off of the ground. He took the Pokéball now containing Machop, and places it in one of the holsters on the left side of his jacket. He now had five Pokémon, five more than he had ever anticipated on having three years ago. Century's Nidoran and Bulbasaur both look on.

"Great job out there, you guys." Century says with a smile. This was the first time he had ever used a Pokémon other than his Bulbasaur to complete a capture of another Pokémon. "I'm proud of you all." Century reaches down and pets both his Bulbasaur and his Nidoran.

"Let's see what is further in on this route, shall we?" Century questions out loud with a smile, upon spinning upon his heels to head deeper into the bottleneck that led into Route 22. Century walked down the dirt road with his Nidoran and Bulbasaur by his side, as they playfully interacted with each other, while Century kept his eye on the road in front of him.

After following the road and turning the corner, Route 22 opened up into a vast grassland, with a tiny lake visible in the distance. Trees surrounded the other side of the route, and Century began walking closer to the river, Pokémon beside him in stride.

Straight ahead of him, was a single Pokémon walking along the path. Century recognized them from his previous endeavours in Pewter City, as many trainers came from Viridian to challenge Brock. Many of them must have captured Pokémon on this route, he assumed. Century pulls out his Pokédex, just to be sure.

[PokeCommunity.com] Pokémon: Kanto's Rebirth [T] [IC]

"Caterpie, the Worm Pokémon. It releases a stench from its red antenna to repel enemies. It grows by molting repeatedly."

"I have to have that Pokémon."

Century thinks to himself as the mechanical voice from the Pokédex rings into the otherwise quiet air.

"Alright Nidoran, let's do this!" Century orders with a grin, and his Nidoran jumps forward, ahead of Century. "Go get it with a Peck!" He orders, and Nidoran charges full steam ahead toward the Caterpie, hitting it head on with it's horn. The Caterpie, however responds with using String Shot on Nidoran, causing it to be confused slightly. The wild Caterpie then hits Nidoran with a Tackle.

"Nido!"

Luckily for Nidoran and his size advantage, it didn't phase him much. "Hit him with a Peck again, Nidoran!" Century commands, and Nidoran does so, causing the Caterpie to go up into the air, before crashing down on the hard, dirt path. The Caterpie gets up, looking slightly dazed. "Let's do it one more time, hard as you can!" Century calls out, and Nidoran begins to gallop, full speed ahead at the Caterpie, before hitting it with a horn attack once more.

The Caterpie drops onto the hard ground, not moving for a few brief moments. Nidoran stands at full attention as the Caterpie slowly begins to move once more. Once back to a full standing position, Caterpie hits Nidoran with a String-Shot, blinding it temporarily! Caterpie then moves as fast as it can along the ground before hitting Nidoran with a Tackle!

"Nido! Nido!" Century's Nidoran looks like it's in difficult shape, as Century then notices that Caterpie has managed to blind Nidoran with it's String Shot.

"Alright Nidoran, you did what you can! Return!" Century calls out, pulling a pokeball from the inside of his black leather jacket. Pressing the button in the middle to make it enlarge, he holds it out towards Nidoran, who is absorbed into a red beam of light, and back into the Pokéball.

"Bulbasaur! Your turn! This Caterpie is going to be ours!" Century smiles, pulling his fist tight to his body.

"Bullba!" Century's Bulbasaur says in agreement, before jumping foward onto the battlefield.

"Use Tackle, Bulbasaur!" Century calls out, and Bulbasaur launches himself at the Caterpie, slamming into it at full speed. The Caterpie tumbles back onto the dirt once more, getting weaker and weaker. Century looks at Bulbasaur. "What other moves do you know, Bulbasaur?" Century asks, and Bulbasaur simply turns toward the battlefield, looking intently at the Caterpie, who is slowly stirring.

The Caterpie comes charging at Bulbasaur, but is met with the whip of two vines extending from Bulbsaur's body. Century looks a little taken back, as the Caterpie drops. Century looks at his Bulbasaur, who looks back at him, looking for approval.

"Great job, Bulbasaur! Now let's catch this Pokémon!" Century calls out before reaching into his leather jacket and pulling out an empty Pokéball, before throwing it at the Caterpie, who is absorbed into a glow of red light, before disappearing into the ball.

It slowly shakes on the dirt road.

Chapter 2, Part 5
(taking in to account the two battle posts)

For the already overemotional child the battle's conclusion was enough to trigger something much akin to a panic attack. That isn't to say that Jett actually had a panic attack, but save for the description of 'melodramatic teenage boy attack' there really wasn't anything else to call it.

The first, and most unpleasant, stage of this came in the form of the boy crouched on the ground, sobbing like a spoiled child who didn't get his way. His mind played over all the reasons he wasn't cut out to be a trainer in a fashion too dramatic to be real. This stage lasted about five minutes, the time it took for his body to register another emotion.

The second stage was anger. Although it managed to bring Jett back to his feet it was still a bad thing. He felt only contempt for the woman he'd just battled, along with a burning need to prove what she said wrong. It was a shallow wish, however, as he had no desire to do as she said. His way of proving her wrong at that moment was to find her and humiliate her as badly as she had him.

Finally it all subsided, for the most part, and he began to walk back through the route with nowhere to go but the Pokemon Center. He felt like he had a point to prove now, and the tools to prove that point. There was a lingering thought in his mind of how wrong 'tools' was to call them, but he brushed that off, anger getting the best of him.

For the third time in the past forty-eight hours Jett entered the Viridian City Pokemon Center. He walked to the counter. Not bothering to greet the nurse at all this time, leaving his Pokeballs on the counter.

He imagined that it would take quite a while for them to be healed this time, and he hardly felt like waiting around this time, so he left, no Pokemon on hand, to go and look around the city.

Chapter 2: Viridian City
Post 6
*pokemonelite2000 image removed*"image removed""image removed""image removed""image removed""image removed""image removed"

Rayne's handy wrist-watch read 10:45am by the time she made it down to Viridian City again. And she wanted to stop by the Pokemon Center first to rest her Pokemon, and then they'd be off to the training arena. Once she got into the air conditioned center, Rayne immediately walked up to the front desk where one of Nurse Joy's Chanseys was waiting.

"Hey there Chansey, do you know where Nurse Joy may be?" Rayne asked as she leaned against the counter, retrieving all seven of her Pokeballs. "I wanted to heal up my team."

Chansey turned and pointed towards the back of the center. "(She will be out momentarily.)"

"Okay, thank you Chansey, I can wait," Rayne said with a nod, turning to sit down on a nearby couch, leaning back, absolutely exhausted. She had her seven Pokeballs still in hand and took one of them in hand before clicking the button and allowing the red top to open.

A flash of light and on the couch materialized Rayne's newest addition – her Caterpie. It was curled up in a little ball, but as soon as it opened its eyes and caught sight of Rayne, it jolted upright and let out a loud sound, and Rayne didn't quite know how to describe it. The Caterpie quickly wormed its way up her arm – like a little rocket – until it was perched on top of her head. It let out another excited sound before curling up, the top of its head barely touching Rayne's forehead.

Rayne just stood as still as a statue for a few seconds before a chuckle rose in her throat. "Nice to meet you too, Caterpie," Rayne said with a grin. She put Caterpie's Pokeball away in her jacket figuring the bug wasn't as worn out as a few of hers from the previous battles. Maybe Weedle wasn't either.

Rayne took Weedle's Pokeball in hand before clicking the button and allowing the top to open. Weedle quickly materialized and wormed up to Rayne's arm, firmly attaching itself to her. It gave off a noise similar to Caterpie, but it wasn't as loud, and it used the time to rub the side of its head along Rayne's forearm.

Finally when the bell rang at front, Rayne got up with her Pokeballs in hand and walked over to where Nurse Joy waited. She was able to come back for them within an hour, and said that she would call Rayne on her phone if she was outside of the Pokemon Center.

But the first thing Rayne decided to do was go to one of the video phones. She dialed the number of her parents first, and when they answered, the screen flashed on. The first thing that happened was Caterpie – he moved his head towards the screen, almost absolutely transfixed by the 'magic'.

Rayne raises a hand and lifted Caterpie off her head and put him on her lab. "Hi, sorry about that, mom and dad." Rayne laughed lightly with a grin.

"Rayne!" her parents began to boast. "You finally decided to call us, didn't you? You were so busy with your training you forgot all about that, hmm?"

"Sorry," Rayne seemed to blush. "I was training my Pokemon."

"Oh, which one did you start with? Are these your own Pokemon besides your starter?" her parents asked.

"Oh no, I've got five more. My starter, and four others are currently being looked at by Nurse Joy," Rayne explained.

"Oh, are they alright?" her mother asked.

Rayne nodded. "Oh yeah, they should be fine. We were just training for awhile and we just got back from a tough match. I want them to rest up before I decide to head towards Viridian Forest."

"Well, at least tell us what Pokemon you got," her father said.

"Alright well, I started with a Squirtle," Rayne always wanted to start with a Squirtle. There was no surprise there. "A Pidgey, a Nidoran girl and boy, a Spearow, and-"

"A Spearow? But Rayne, we thought you were petrified of them?" her parents said, shock written across her face.

Rayne just shrugged. "I don't know. I just happened to catch it." She averted her eyes from her parents.

That call went on for a bit longer before Rayne decided to call Professor Oak. She was supposed to check up on him, and she told him her progress. That call lasted about ten minutes, so overall Rayne had about thirty more minutes until her Pokemon would be ready for her to pick up. She decided to use the time to go out and train her two Bug Pokemon who were happy enough to be with her.

So, she stopped at one of the empty practice fields outside of the Pokemon Center. "Okay you two, for the time being I want you to battle each other," her two Pokemon seemed to exchange glances. "You two seem to be at the same level as each other so I don't think this would be too much of a problem."

Both of her Pokemon nodded before worming their way down to the field.

"Now, you two, try battling without any directions from me," Rayne said, but her Weedle and Caterpie both looked up at her as if she was crazy. Rayne only shrugged. "What if I'm not there and you need to protect yourself? What if I'm the one in trouble – I would be counting on you."

Her Pokemon both looked at each, before nodding their heads, now both having determined stances.

"Begin."

And it did. For at least ten minutes it went on with her Pokemon shooting attack after attack as well as dodging what they could. This could also help heighten their attack, defense, and even speed.

But at the fifteen minute mark, Weedle halted and so did Caterpie. Rayne looked on as Weedle began to glow. Rayne flipped out her Pokedex as Weedle began to grow and change shape – she only suspected one thing – it was evolving.

When the light cleared, a Kakuna was in Weedle's place.

The Pokedex beeped.

Spoiler:

"Oh, good, that's excellent!" Rayne said with a grin, putting away her Pokedex and kneeling down to her Caterpie and newly evolved Kakuna. She patted both Pokemon on the head, and Kakuna looked at her through its usually creepy eyes. "You evolved, Wee- er, I mean – Kakuna."

Caterpie gave an excited sound and began running circles around Kakuna, most definitely happy for its friend.

That's when her phone rang, and it was Nurse Joy had the line telling her that her Pokemon were ready for pick up. Putting away her phone, she took out Kakuna's and Caterpie's Pokeballs. "You two should take a rest for awhile." And they were both transported inside.

Rayne got her feet with a small smile and walked back into the air-conditioned center, ready to pick up her waiting Pokemon.

@Starsprite: No worries, good post.

@Royal: Another very good post, I've come to expect nothing less of you.

Rayne's Weedle evolved into a Kakuna!

EDIT: @Century: Sorry about that, aha. Good post!

Chris caught a Catepie!

Part 4: First Sighting
"image removed" "image removed"

Pokeballs? Check. Clothes? Check. Backpack? Check.
Hunter mentally ticked off all of his supplies as he gathered them into one place. Yesterday, the day he was given his first Pokemon, he had been able to leave all his things at his house, since he was only headed to Pallet Town for the day. Today, though, he needed to get together all of the items that would have to last him for the entirety of his journey.

He was in somewhat of a rush, since he had overslept and knew at least some of the other new Trainers would have overtaken him. He didn't know exactly why he felt the need to be ahead of the rest, but it was some deeply-instilled instinct which was almost painful to disobey. Still, he forced himself to take his time, not wanting to miss some important piece of equipment which may or may not mean the difference between life and death.

He walked downstairs feeling satisfied with his efforts. His backpack was on his shoulders, filled with the supplies his mother had acquired. In it, he had also stowed away the items he'd bought from the PokeMart. His father had given him one of the belts Hunter had so often admired on other Trainers, one with small clasps which could hold several Pokeballs. He currently wore this belt, two of the slots filled with Charmer and Kaiser's Pokeballs. Charmer, however, was not in his Ball; Hunter preferred to let him walk in the open air. The small Pokemon had no trouble keeping up, as it was surprisingly agile. What's more, Hunter's mother had taken a strong liking to the Charmander, which Hunter was reminded of as he stepped through the doorway into his living room.
"Hunter! Aw, how's my special little guy?"
Hunter sighed, wishing his parents could show at least some restraint. It took a moment for him to prepare for the flurry of hugs and kisses that were coming his way, but he then realized she wasn't talking to her son at all. Instead, she was kneeled down in front of Charmer, tugging on his cheeks like one would with a small child. "Oh look at you, I could just eat you all up!"
The Pokemon looked confused at this treatment. "Mom, stop it, you'll hurt him!" She didn't seem to think that she would, but in any case, she stopped and got to her feet, embracing Hunter. Oh, great... he thought, as she began to sob into his shoulder. A bunch of words tumbled out of her mouth that sounded something like "abumbobmblehdigbanmder," but Hunter figured it was some story about how she's proud of him. Something along those lines. He awkwardly patted her on the back, and tried to offer some kind of condolences. Something to get her off. "Come, on, mom, it's not like I won't be back. Just a few months, and I'm sure I'll be coming through Viridian again." While not a heartfelt statement, it seemed to do the trick, and moments later Hunter found himself walking out the front door, waving good-bye to his parents. Charmer made a noise that probably meant "thanks for not eating me, miss!"

"I think we'll go to Route 22 today, Charmer. The guards there are pretty strict, but we should be able to stay away from them."
Charmer nodded in agreement and the two began to walk East, towards the Route that marked the gates to the Pokemon League. And here's where I'll be when I'm finally ready. This thought made Hunter feel strange, gave him the realization that this was really happening. He was really embarking on a journey around the whole region, and he was really sure he could do it. This burst of adrenaline almost made him break out running again, but he maintained his composure and kept strolling. Charmer appeared to share its Trainer's feelings, seeing as it had an undisguisable look of anticipation on its face. Hunter sensed he was looking for another battle. "Maybe we can find some more Trainers at Route 22, there's usually a battle or two going on." And if not, he would go looking for some more Pokemon to catch.

The unmistakeable sound of battling was coming from further along the Route. Here, though, in a patch of grass closer to Viridian, the cries of Pokemon were also abundant. Every now and then, a Weedle, Rattata or Spearow would jump out at Hunter, only to land on the ground with a scorched backside. It might not be too fair, but it's training, Hunter thought, as an unsuspecting Caterpie collapsed in front of Charmer. Hunter had no reason to pull out his Pokedex as he continued towards the League gates; he was familiar with all of the species around Viridian, having studied them numerous times at school. He also knew that he only really had to worry about massive Spearow flocks, or a berserking Mankey. That and Jigglypuff. Can't forget Jigglypuff. Still, Pokemon after Pokemon fell before Charmer's Embers, which eventually gave Hunter the inclination that they should find more powerful opponents if they were to grow stronger.

An answer to his thoughts arrived almost instantly. A Mankey stepped out from behind a rock and started waving its arms around furiously. It was a male, too, by the looks of it, and it wasn't one bit happy at having its territory invaded. Hunter grinned, and so did Charmer. "All right, Charmer, here's a challenge for you! Let's see... Give this one a try! Use Smokescreen, then hit it with an Ember!"
Charmer opened its mouth and began to shout. Thick, black smoke began to burst forth in dark plumes, engulfing the Mankey as it charged forward. It had become lost in a black shroud, and clearly had no idea where it was, as frantic, scream-like cries were beginning to issue forth from the cloud. Charmer ran forward and leapt high into the air, and right when it was above the Smokescreen, launched half a dozen Embers into the Mankey's midst. At least one of them must have found their mark, judging by the heightened noise level. Charmer landed nimbly on the ground where the Mankey had stood a few moments earlier, and got ready for another attack as the smoke cleared.

This, the Mankey was expecting. It had dealt with tricksters before, and some fire-breathing runt wasn't about to beat it! It waited for the black cloud to somewhat dissipate, then bounded towards Charmer on all fours. Charmer hardly saw it coming, and so a look of shock is all he was able to manage as the Mankey landed a forceful Karate Chop on his cheek. It sent him skidding, and at the end of his short trip, he fell to the ground. The Mankey walked over to him, victory in its eyes, and readied another attack, but before it could manage one, Charmer once again turned the tables. He was clearly a performer when under pressure. He flicked his tail out under the Mankey's feet, knocking it to the ground, then quickly stood up and let loose a flurry of attacks. Ember. Ember. Scratch. Ember. Scratch. And finally, the crescendo, a new attack that Hunter had never actually seen in practise. Charmer's mouth opened wide, presumably for another Ember attack, but instead of a ball of fire, a burst of strange blue flames was issued, coming down on the Mankey's body with force. Woah, Dragon Rage!

The Mankey was finished. "That was amazing, Charmer! Come on, let's get out of here," Hunter said, knowing full well that he didn't want to be around when the Pokemon woke from its coma-like state.

As Hunter rounded the corner of a rocky outcropping, he spotted a rather interesting sight. A girl, about his age, was commanding a Spearow in battle, facing off against a Caterpie. Is this battle serious? There's only one way this could turn out. "Charmer, return," he ordered, not wanting to make his presence known just yet.

The small insect Pokemon was being ordered around by a young boy, but didn't seem to be very... Competent. Eventually, after a particularly savage attack from the Spearow, the Caterpie collapsed. Its Trainer looked distraught. It reminded Hunter of how he would have felt if he'd lost his first-ever Pokemon battle; that was the only thing he could compare the look on this kid's face with. Then it hit him. This was his first battle! He now realized that these two Trainers were in fact the Trainers Professor Oak had given Pokemon to, one day prior.

Hunter watched the two exchange a few words from behind his vantage point, then dove into a nearby patch of grass when he saw the girl walking back in his direction. He didn't want to be spotted, preferring that his fellow Trainers maintained the belief that he was well ahead of them. He waited for her to pass, then rose back to his feet and brushed off some loose blades of grass. "Well. Out you come, Charmer." He knelt down and spoke to his partner. "We need to be careful of that girl. She seems tough. And she has loads of Pokemon with her, judging by the amount of Pokeballs on her belt." Hunter was being particularly conservative with his choices in capturing Pokemon. He knew it was good to have several different kinds of Pokemon, but this also made it much more difficult to train them all consistently. After all, he wanted to be the very best at battling, not get some silly diploma to show off. He made a mental note to catch at least one new Pokemon on his way through Viridian Forest, and then started back towards town, deciding that another decent battle would come his way eventually.

FORD K N O X
[PokeCommunity.com] Pokémon: Kanto's Rebirth [T] [IC]

→ route 1

Route 1 was a light and easy path to walk on. That is, if you followed the road. Ford didn't. The bits of forest he found, he plunged into, in the search of wild pokémon. As he marched through the vegetation with Pikachu bounding along before him, he held his smartphone in a tight grip with one hand and wrote quickly with the other into the chat program, which was by the way called Pestify for some weird reason.

Gemini: under no circumstances should you waste tactical thinking on weak, tiny pokemon.

Leo: be gentle with the kittens!!

Sagittarius: Kittens? What? And I doubt I'm really having any tactical plan whatsoever...

Ford went under the name Sagittarius in Pestify, if that wasn't obvious. He had a certain group of friends who all knew each other and usually logged into the same chatroom. The names they used were just nicknames, because all of them thought it would be fun when they made them up. Nowadays it's mostly annoying, but nevertheless they all refer to each other as their nicknames rather than as their real names. He pushed away a bush with his currently free hand and spotted Pikachu standing in a clearing, head to head with a Rattata.

Sagittarius: Ok, I've caught up with the Rattata!

Gemini: burn them with your strongest attack.

Leo: rattata are rats and I don't like rats

Sagittarius: ...

"You ready? Let's try this," Ford said to Pikachu, not really convinced himself. Pikachu nodded. "Well then, Thundershock!" Ford cried out, following Gemini's advice here.

Pikachu blasted his electric attack at the rat, who dodged it unexpectedly skillfully and Tackled the mouse before it could regain its composure.

Gemini: did you win yet?

Sagittarius: It's faster than I thought.

Leo: use your status moves!!

"Pikachu, Tail Whip!" Ford shouted and his pokémon waved its tail to divert Rattata's attention. "Good, Quick Attack!" Pikachu suddenly shot forward and tackled the Rattata hard with high speed. "And Thundershock!" The mouse obeyed and fried the rat with electricity. The weaker, wild pokémon was already fainted.

Sagittarius: We won!

Gemini: great, now go on to killing stronger stuff!

Sagittarius: I'll just capture this first.

Gemini: hell no. why would you want a Rattata on your team?

Leo: he's right, you can find them anywhere!! you should just battle the rats now to make Pikachu stronger. I don't like rats.

Sagittarius: But I thought the point of battling wild pokemon was to catch them?

Gemini: only if you find strong ones. now you're just too weak to battle trainers so your only hope to get stronger is to battle wild ones.

Leo: but if you find some cute ones you can capture them anyways!!

Sagittarius: ...

So Pikachu and Ford left the fried Rattata alone and went back to the road. It was midday and they hadn't reached Viridian City yet. Ford wasn't sure if it was worth searching for more pokémon here; according to Gemini this was a route with particularly weak and boring pokémon. But still, he couldn't reach Viridian without being a decent battler. Burt might still be there. Yeah, he was probably still there because he was still at home when Ford went to sleep yesterday. If Burt too had started his training today, he was probably grinding on Route 22 or already battling the other trainers in Viridian. The young brother wondered how his older brother would get his first pokémon though... knowing him, he might just jump at it in the tall grass and capture it with his own both hands. Ford shuddered at the thought of how quickly Burt probably could become a ruthless trainer.

He was pulled out of these thoughts by Pikachu tugging his jeans leg. He pointed at a patch of tall grass that was moving some meters away from them. Ford crept closer and pulled up his pokédex. It identified the pokémon in the bush as a Nidoran, a female specifically.

"That's not a Rattata, at least," Ford muttered. "Pikachu, go!"

Pikachu smiled and jumped into the patch of grass. After a moment of bickering noises, two pokémon tumbled out. One was Pikachu and the other one was indeed a Nidoran, greenish blue with a tiny horn on its forehead. Ford had memorized Pikachu's attacks without much trouble, but he fleetingly thought about how difficult it could be to memorize the attack sets of several pokémon at once when he got a full team. Maybe he should try to capture simple pokémon after all?

Nidoran took charge. She Growled cutely and tried to make Pikachu less eager to attack her. Pikachu did loosen up his fighting stance a bit and that was when Nidoran struck with a Scratch attack. Her claws flied out and hit the mouse easily.

"Don't get distracted!" Ford said, standing just beside the battle. "Quick Attack!" He had already grown tired of the status moves.

Pikachu shot forward through the grassy patch and burst into Nidoran forcefully. But it didn't seem too hurt.

Sagittarius: Nidoran are tough, are they?

Leo: the females, yeah!! and cute! catch one!

Cancer: yeah, catch one, catch everything. you don't even have the least sense of planning, do you? friggin moron.

Sagittarius: Hey, Cancer. You really think I should capture it?

Cancer: definitely. you'll get along great, you're both blue and dumb.

Leo: why are you always like this? :<

Sagittarius: Don't worry, Leo, it's just his way of expressing himself :>

Ford grinned and looked back up. Pikachu didn't seem to need much direction in battles against wild pokémon, actually. Sometimes, Ford who was standing a bit further away could spot things and situations which Pikachu couldn't, he guessed, and then it could be an advantage if Ford gave him commands once in a while. The wild pokémon acted mostly out of instinct, at least the weak ones in western Kanto. It was probably different when they would face another trainer who directed his own pokémon. Then Ford's order would be needed in order to stay focused and see all solutions. Not that Ford was great at seeing solutions yet, but for now he mostly needed to appear controlled enough to fool Burt and his friends in Viridian who expected him to be awesome by the time he came home. Darn it, why couldn't he be living in Pewter City instead? Then he would have had more time to prepare before showing up.

Anyways, Cancer might be a cranky fellow, but he was easily annoyed when other people did things he didn't approve of. According to him, this Nidoran would not be a good team member. Ford shrugged. At least Pikachu got some training.

A Thundershock flew through the air and hit the Nidoran, but it was still standing. Jumping up into the air, it bounced against a big rock and went feet first at Pikachu. Ford had pulled up his pokédex right before this and it was now identifying the move as Double Kick. Pokémon were strange in many ways. One was that they seemed to have a connection with energy in the world; they could turn into energy form and be stored and quickly healed inside pokéballs and they could be sent as data across the internet. Another thing was that they seemed to behave as logical creatures in some senses. Among species, there weren't much diversity - while humans came in all shapes and colors, Pikachu always looked almost the same and were about the same size. And their attacks; they had an innate knowledge of certain moves that could even be the same for different species. Trainers didn't need to introduce new moves to their pokémon at all times - pokémon discovered how to use them by themselves and then the trainers helped them polish and refine the moves in battle. It wasn't strange that there were so many pokémon scientists around the world. These creatures were really marvelous. Ford suddenly wondered why he hadn't been more interested in them throughout his life?

Just then, an example of this move learning thing presented itself before him. Pikachu and Nidoran kept evading each other's attacks for a while, until Pikachu suddenly fired a quick jolt of energy that didn't look like the usual Thundershock. Nidoran yelped and stopped jumping around. It looked like it had a hard time moving.

"You paralyzed it?" Ford asked his pokémon, who smiled and wiggled his ears. "Oh, I know that move! You've learned Thunder Wave! Awesome! Now, finish with Thundershock!"

Pikachu did so, and in a few seconds, the Nidoran was fried just like the Rattata before. Ford did take up an empty pokéball now, but then hesitated. Leo would think it's cute and Cancer would get mad and Gemini... actually he had no idea what he would think.

Sagittarius: Hey.

Gemini: have you successfully avoided all the weak pokemon of Route 1 yet?

Sagittarius: So female Nidoran isn't worth capturing?

Gemini: well. if you want to really train hard and be annoyed for months before you manage to find a moon stone and make it strong, go ahead.

Sagittarius: Thanks.

He put away the pokéball and motioned for Pikachu to leave the female in the grass while they found their way back to the road again. At least Pikachu had been a good choice and could impress Burt. Still, it bothered Ford just a little that he hadn't captured a single additional pokémon yet. He hoped numbers weren't all that mattered..

((OOC: And just in case anybody wonders, I'm well aware of that script style isn't allowed in PC roleplaying, but I'm only using it to illustrate how Ford chats with his friends over the web, while I use "blabla" for normal dialogue :> ))

@Manganum: No, no. It's completely fine to learn moves at any time, like the anime :D. Good post, enjoyed reading it.

@Red's Hawt Chibi Pelippers: It's fine, it makes for an interesting read when we get to see his friends opinions. Very good post.

With the Pokeballs of Kakuna and Caterpie safely put away, Rayne made her way to the front desk and retrieved her Pokeballs, putting them into her jacket before proceeding to the small restaurant connected to the Pokemon Center. She and her Pokemon all had a good meal, and Rayne paid the bill deciding it was time to go train out on the practice fields after their food settled.

Rayne still had the field she was using earlier rented out, and she had it for another hour, so why not use the time wisely? Once out on the field, Rayne immediately let out all of her Pokemon who lined up in front of her – well, except for Caterpie and Kakuna; Kakuna was in her lap while Caterpie took its usual spot on top of her head.

"Alright guys, we're going to practice our moves and all train to become stronger, faster, and get a better defense," Rayne said, standing up with Kakuna held in her arms. "Squirtle and Spearow, you two will practice together. Squirtle, try using your Water Gun to knock Spearow out of the sky, and Spearow, dodge those attacks as best as you can." Her two Pokemon nodded, and Rayne turned to her next two. "Pidgey and Nidoran girl, you two will battle. Nidoran, dodge Pidgey as best as you can and please don't poison him. Pidgey, try knocking her off her feet."

And finally, her eyes went onto Nidoran boy. "Nidoran boy, I want you to train with Caterpie, alright? Try charging and knocking it off its feet, but be a bit gentle because I just got him."

Nidoran boy just rolled his shoulder. "(Hmph, sure, whatever.)" it said. And so, the battling began – setting Kakuna down on the bench momentarily, Rayne took Caterpie off her head and laid it down where her other Pokemon were going to train.

Finally, she made it back to the bench and sat down, settling Kakuna back on her lap. And her Pokemon began to train, and Rayne kept a watchful eye. Shellshock landed a few hits on Spearow, but the water Pokemon would wait a few seconds until Spearow was ready to continue again. Nidoran girl continued to dodge Pidgey's physical attacks, only being hit lightly by a few swipes. But the pair Rayne was most concerned about was Nidoran boy and Caterpie. Nidoran boy continued to ram the bug again and again, hardly allowing Caterpie time to get up and retaliate. The bug couldn't even fire a String Shot with how fast the Nidoran hit it.

"Enough!" Rayne snapped, and at that time, Kakuna launched its own String Shot attack at the Nidoran boy, literally gluing it to the ground. She got to her feet as her other Pokemon stopped and turned to Nidoran boy and Caterpie. Caterpie was on the ground, and didn't even have the strength to get up.

"We don't hurt fellow teammates like that," Rayne snapped.

But all the Nidoran did was turn away. "(You asked me to train, so I was.)" it retorted.

"Beating up another teammate like that is not training," Rayne said, settling her Kakuna on the ground next to Caterpie. "You know Caterpie is almost defenseless and you attack it like that anyway."

Nidoran boy just shrugged.

"If you continue to act this way I will have no choice but to release you," Rayne threatened, and then the Nidoran boy looked up at her with wide eyes.

"(R-release me?)" it stuttered, body still cemented to the ground with String Shot.

"Yes, release you," Rayne nodded. "You aren't being a team player here and how will I know you will be one in the future when I need you?"

The Nidoran only looked down, oblivious to the fact that Rayne's other Pokemon were watching the argument.

Rayne reached into her jacket, retrieving a Pokeball.

"(I-I'm sorry.)" the Nidoran seemed to whisper.

"You don't have to say that to me. You have to say it to Caterpie," Rayne said, expression stern.

Nidoran looked at the Caterpie through the corner of its eyes. "(S-sorry.)"

Rayne raised the Pokeball. "Now you can think about changing that attitude inside your Pokeball," Rayne said. "You can count on me excluding you from training for the rest of the day." And with that, a red beam of light shot out and transported Nidoran back inside.

Rayne put the Pokeball away with a sigh as the rest of her Pokemon walked up to Caterpie to see if it was alright. Rayne bent down, scooping the little bug into her arms. "Nidoran shouldn't have done that too you," Rayne said with a shake of her head. With a free hand, she dug into her back pack and took out one of the Oran berries she had gotten back in Pallet Town. They were still ripe and good.

She held it out to Caterpie, who was still worn out and had little energy to lift its head. "Caterpie, you should eat this. It will make you feel better."

Closely but surely the Caterpie began to eat the Oran Berry and once the berry was gone, Rayne took out Kakuna's Pokeball, returning the cocoon Pokemon.

"I think it's time to end training for now," Rayne said with a sigh, getting to her feet and heading back inside the Pokemon center with her other Pokemon at her heels.

(OOC: This is a joint post I did with Starsprite.)

Although he was without a Pokemon, Jett was instantly attracted to the battle facilities in Viridian, especially with his revived desire to become stronger. He imagined that he could learn a thing or two from watching the battles of others, especially in the area of being able to detect the little things like the signs of poisoning that could make such a huge difference.

Outside of said battle facilities he noticed a boy about his height, if not taller than him (which meant nothing really, considering his short stature) with a Shinx lurking behind him. Normally he would have no interest in such a person, but for some reason this kid has caught his eye.

Bennet looked out at the empty battlefield before him, immovable. Just minutes before, the plain dirt field was loud with the sounds of battle. A fight between a Pidgey and a Slowpoke that was unexpectedly entertaining. The way the trainers handled their Pokemon, commanding them in different ways, chaining attacks, ordering dodges and tactical movement and move usage. It was all very captivating. Bennet had noticed Spark was similarly enthralled by the battle, his eyes shining with his usual determination, yet touched with the sparkle of wonder as one would see in a child. Queen didn't seem to share the opinion, if anything seeming disinterested and even annoyed with the battling. She had long since climbed off Bennet's shoulders and wrapped herself around his legs, trying to sleep despite the vibrations on the ground and the roar of Pokemon and person.

With Jett's shyness came a particular social awkwardness though, and that much was evident in the way he approached the boy. Jett walked up beside him, and instead of a proper greeting just asked a blunt, "Are you a trainer?"

Spark's small growling came from behind Bennet. A voice spoke to him from behind. Would all of his meetings come from somewhere he wasn't looking?

Bennet turned around. "Why yes, yes I am. Judging from the backpack, I'd say you're a trainer too. Or maybe a hiker, I don't know." He responded to the boy roughly his height, a friendly grin coming to his face. "Hey, did you come here to watch the battles too? The last one just ended, but a new one will probably be starting up soon." Bennet continued, suddenly remembering he hadn't introduced himself. "Oh! I'm Bennet, by the way. Bennet Prassara. It's nice to meet you. That's Sparks, don't mind him, he's kinda silly." He said, gesturing to the Shinx that insisted on staring at the newcomer, wearing the usual unreadable expression. Bennet felt something brush against his leg, when he turned around he had cause Queen to uncoil herself, now she was standing and looking at the new boy, though with much less enthusiasm than Sparks. Looking down at the Snivy, Bennet continued. "And this here's Queen."

Jett, despite being angry at just about the entire world made an attempt at a smile, which really just turned out to be kind of a neutral expression. "My name is Jett Minks, and I am a trainer, though I'm not currently with any of my Pokemon."

He examined Bennet's Pokemon, especially interested in his Snivy. Queen, he'd called it. Must be female.

"Where did you get your Snivy?" the fifteen-year-old asked. This was the second person he'd met with a starter today, and he considered that maybe it was simply coincidence, but he had to be sure.

Bennet looked back down at Queen, who had seemed to have gotten over Jett's presence. She was still standing up, looking around, seeming generally distant from the rest of the world.

"Professor Oak let me take her, she was the last starter left." Benent said. "The professor chooses a few people to become trainers every so often, and I was one of the lucky ones picked." He continued, trying not to sound like he was bragging, though he couldn't deny the hint of pride in his voice. He figured he was only selected based on who his parents are, but he was happy nonetheless that Oak had selected him.

Jett looked surprised. How had he not seen any of these people on his way from the lab?

"I actually have a Tepig," he countered, "from Professor Oak. But it's at the Pokemon Center right now."

So this kid was chosen by Professor Oak too? Jett would have to keep his eye out for the people like this. There were four he hadn't met yet, but he imagined that he would soon enough. "Per chance do you know any of the other five people that received starters?" he inquired, just out of curiosity.

"Nope, not a clue. I thought all of the others were far ahead of me, but I guess it would make sense that some of them may have turned in early here. I know I did." Bennet said, smiling despite his complete lack of knowledge.

He hadn't expected to run into any of the chose trainers, but it was certainly a welcome surprise. Perhaps he wasn't as out of step with the others as he may have thought. Bennet began to wonder where the others were, what they were doing.

Bennet noticed Sparks, who had been staring intently at Jett the entire time, turn his attention out of the corner of his eye. Following the Shinx's eyes, he saw that some more people, mainly younger kids as well as few that looked closer to his age or older, beginning to amass at the far end of the field.

"Huh, guess the next battle will be starting soon." Bennet commented.

Jett was a little disappointed at Bennet's lack of knowledge of the other trainers, but he guessed it couldn't be helped. It seemed they had all arrived at the lab at different times, and were probably all scattered out by now.

He almost wanted to keep in touch with them, just to gauge how well he was doing in comparison. Jett considered all of them his rivals in some way or another, but Bennet was seemingly a pretty neutral person, so compared to the woman he had just battled he wasn't so intent on defeating him.

However, a battle would likely be in store at some time. Jett cringed slightly at the thought, still trying to recover from his last match, but at the same time his confidence seemed to be returning...slowly.

"If I had my Pokemon on me I would challenge you to a battle," he mentioned, "I think we should some time." He thought about it for a moment. "We are headed in the same direction, right? After the Gym Badges?"

Bennet grinned at Jett's proposition. "Yeah, we should have a battle sometime. It would be fun!"

When the second question came, Bennet's cheery expression was wiped. What was he going to do? Did he really want to go after the badges? Did he have a choice? What would he even do with them? All questions the boy had never put thought into.

"Uh, yeah. Yeah I guess we're headed the same way." He said, his disposition returning. "No way to go but forward anyway, right?" Bennet joked, considering the geography of Kanto.

"Well you could always run away to Johto," Jett mused, kind of an ironic thing to say, and his attempt at making a joke. "But I agree. I'm sure we'll run into each other enough."

He smiled, but only slightly. "We could keep tabs on each other. Make sure neither of us are falling behind."

It surprised even Jett himself that he was being so friendly. It really wasn't like him to be so forward with other people, though once he knew someone well enough he would open up ever so slightly. Still, Bennet was a complete stranger, albeit a friendly one.

Bennet nodded in response. "Yeah, yeah, that's not a bad idea." He said, his speech slowly slipping as he refocused his attention on the field. Two trainers were walking out onto the field, taking opposite sides.

"Ooh, looks like the next battle's getting started." He said, already trying to predict which Pokemon they would choose. The spell that seemed to captivate he and Sparks was beginning to take effect.

Jett noticed that Bennet was already captivated by this match. Now would probably be a good time to part ways, he decided.

"Well I was really just coming in to look around, but I'm sure I'll see you again," Jett conceded, "I think I need to go check up on my Pokemon now."

Bennet broke his concentration with the match. "Alright." He said to Jett. "I'll be sure to keep an eye out for you on the road, we'll have to have that battle someday." He began calling to the other boy as he walked away.

"Speaking of the road.." Bennet said to himself. He looked to the sky, he had spent much more time at the arena than he had wanted to. His gaze fell back upon the beginning battle. I'll stick around for this, then it's back on the road. He decided, plotting a mental course forward to the next town.

(Not a bit fan of this post but I didn't have many ideas...)

Alyss Redford
Team: Oshawott, Pikachu
Some things are simply a matter of pride…

The Pokeball slowed to a halt and stopped. Alyss slowly went to pick up the Pokeball, looking relieved. Sammy at that moment, plopped down on the ground. She let out an "eep" of fear and returned him, letting him rest for a little while. Alyss then realized that both her Pokemon were nearly out of commission and she was in the middle of Route One and could be attacked any time now…

The panic welled and she struggled to hold it back, looking for some enemies that she thought were waiting to jump out. Seeing nothing, she straightened and started to walk. There was nothing she could really do if they did attack. Her new Pikachu was probably going to be her only hope… if he worked with her. So… after debating it a few moments more, she released him. The Pokemon shook himself a moment later as he appeared in white light, shaking off his previous injuries.

Then Pikachu saw her and it stared. It stared like a stranger. Alyss twitched. She forced herself to stare back, stare deep into its eyes and stand there. She trembled all over, her fists clenched and unclenched as she sweat. However she didn't look away. Something told Alyss if she looked away, this journey wouldn't matter anymore.
After a few moments of locked gazes, she spoke quietly. "I… I'm sorry we attacked you… and captured you," she added lamely as the Pokemon snorted. "But um… you're really, really strong." The Pikachu snorted. Of course he was strong. He was one of the hardest to catch species on the route. He wouldn't simply be easy now. "And…well, I think it'd be bad to just leave you here. Will you… help me?"

The Pikachu thought for a moment, tapping his foot dispassionately. Hmm… she had won… but he liked being free. Respect… freedom… respect … freedom. Slowly he nodded to her and Alyss smiled, offering her shoulder. "Um… thanks Rai."

The name given, Rai shrugged and rose to his paws, climbing to rest on the appointed shoulder. It was better than walking that was for sure. Alyss started walking again until night fell, when she quickly found a safe place to rest. To her, it was peacefully uneventful, barring a Rattata she had to stop Rai from cheerfully roasting like a chestnut. She had used her Pokedex before falling asleep, trying to memorize her new teams's moves

The next morning Alyss continued on her way to Viridian City. Rai was perfectly well now, sort of. He trotted ahead of her regardless, as though remaining on her shoulder was demeaning. Regardless, this was how the pair walked, silent and in Alyss' case, looking around curiously and snapping photos. As she raised her camera in frot of her face once more, there was a sudden, terrified squawk. She squeaked and nearly dropped her camera, rolling away from a divebombing Pidgey. It chirped at her, flapping its wings merrily.

"Pid, pid gey!" Hi, hello! Of course Alyss understood none of this.

Rai, however, did, and promptly leaped into the air and yanked the bird down by its left talon. "Pika, chaa." He was not amused. Stupid brainless birds. They were worse than Wingull, and he had heard stories on them. Without much thought, he started to put the bird down… only to be pecked in the face.

He released it with a screech, glowering at the now annoyed bird. Pidgey squawked and proceeded to divebomb, only to be smacked away by a bolt-shaped tail. Alyss opened her mouth but Rai shook his head. Leave it to me, was the mental message here. She nodded shyly, pulling out a spare Pokeball. Meanwhile the Pokemon had begun to squabble, gust making Rai grit his teeth. He charged and electrocuted the poor bird, making it instantly hit the ground. It struggled back up, rising to fly again and peck at the mouse. It was a clear disadvantage; Rai couldn't fly.

"Rai," she murmured softly. "You should bring it down." He gave her a roll of the eyes. "No," Alyss added hurriedly. "I mean its wings. Paralyze its wings!" He blinked then facepalmed. Duh. His body started to spark and he charged, leaping into the air as Pidgey dove down again. Gosh these birds were weak. The electricity sparked in a Thunder Wave, causing the bird to fall, forced to talon-walk and release a Sand-Attack. Then it charged, pecking Rai on the head.

The Pikachu backpedaled, eyes watering from the dust. He released sparks everywhere, only to aim too high and get knocked to the side. Rai coughed and got back up. He released Thundershock all over the place to clear the dirt. When it cleared, the Pidgey was twitching. It got up and tackled Rai again. It wasn't giving up that easily. Rai simply smacked it with his tail, knocking the creature out. He wasn't going to play.

Alyss winced at how fast the battle went. Then she remembered Pikachu were likely sturdier than little Pidgey. Well… that or Rai just didn't bother holding back. She threw the Pokeball at the Pidgey, letting it clamp around the Pokemon and begin to shake.

The Pokeball slowed to a halt for the second time that day, causing Alyss to sigh in visible relief. That had worked. Maybe... maybe this whole fighting thing wouldn't be so bad. Rai looked at her with a cocky smirk, clearly saying Told you I got this. She managed a tiny giggle. Maybe working with an cocky Pikachu would take some getting used to, but she could do it. Probably... She picked up the Pokeball and clipped it to her belt, returning Rai as well. Like it or not, those beaks must hurt. It was best to heal her Pokemon for now. She headed toward Viridian City with a small wince.

Alyss could feel her exhaustion. However, the day was not yet over and she still wanted to see if she could do something in Viridian before turning in for tonight. She reached the city and smiled to herself, entering the Pokemon Center and healing her Pokemon. She didn't tap her foot, merely looked anxiously at the floor until it was finished. Taking them back, Alyss let her eyes wander, noticing a girl with a lot of Pokemon surrounding her, one being a Squirtle. Who was that?

Rayne returned her Caterpie once inside and once it began to stir in her arms. Rayne took the opportunity to sit on the couch, leaning back, and allowing her four Pokemon to rest at her sides. It was still early into the day at only about 12:30pm. She wasn't sure if she was up to battle, but she knew a few of her Pokemon would still be anxious to go.

There was no way someone like that couldn't fight, Alyss thought and winced. Her four Pokemon were strong, she bet, much stronger than Sammy and Rai, not that either of them would say that. Maybe they wouldn't have to battle, maybe she could just chat... no. They were trainers and from what she could tell, trainers fought more than they talked. So she quietly walked to sit at a nearby table, hoping she would be promptly ignored.

Shellshock lightly poked Rayne's shoulder and green eyes looked down at the little guy. "What's up, Shellshock?" she asked.

"(Uh, I know we just got out of training, but I was wondering, could we, uh, fight another trainer?)" he asked, and it was met by the agreeable voices of her other Pokemon, the ones who fought in the previous match against Jett.

"You want to?" Rayne blinked with a soft smile.

Her four Pokemon nodded.

"But who?"

"(Maybe… that girl over there?)" Shellshock said with a shrug, pointing to Alyss who was sitting at a table a little bit off. Rayne turned to look at her for a moment, before looking back at her Pokemon.

"Sure," she said with a smile before reaching into her bag to grab the Pokeballs to her Pokemon, returning each one. She tucked them away before getting up from the couch and walking over to the couch.

"Excuse me?" Rayne noticed the girl was actually younger than her. It seemed a lot of trainers were these days. "I'm sorry to bother you, but would you be at all interested in a Pokemon battle?" she asked with a polite and warm grin.

She was still sitting there, fiddling with her camera, when Rayne walked up to her. Alyss didn't look up right away, adjusting the lens. She wasn't being intentionally rude; just she knew the inspection had to be done properly. If there had been anything she had learned before moving to Sinnoh, it was to perform tasks properly, even if ending up incorrect at the end. Slowly, dreading what was to come, because the question had already been asked, Alyss put down her camera.

Then she looked up slowly, trying to avoid the eyes as best she could because talking to someone was hard, talking and looking at someone was almost impossible for her to grasp. "Umm... o-okay... I'm... uh, I'm not very strong though so... are you sure you, eh, um, don't mind?" Sammy's Pokeball shook on her waist and she winced, biting her lower lip. She doubted this would work in her favor at all. But maybe losing was okay. Maybe…

Rayne's smile only grew wider. "It's really alright. How does a two on two battle sound to you?" she asked. "I have a practice field out back still rented out to me, so we can battle there if you'd like?"

Alyss nodded to both of these questions and got to her feet carefully. There wasn't any reason for her to say much else. She followed Rayne quizzically, fingering her camera and thinking, wondering what Pokemon her opponent would use. It was simple enough for her but all Pokemon needed training. She hoped she could handle... whoever it was. Sammy was... not very strong, but he was determined and liked to prove himself. He was also fast and quick to figure things out. Rai was... arrogant but strong, definitely stronger than Sammy. He could think better on his feet and was a trickster. She wouldn't use her new partner yet, not now. She had to get used to it first.

"Umm... you start?" she asked softly, not really sure what difference it would make. She had never had a trainer battle before.

Rayne took her position on the other side of the field, taking a Pokeball out from her jacket pocket. "You're new at this, aren't you?" Rayne asked lightly, calm and collected, her usual poker face during matches. "Then I'll try to be a bit gentle."

She let out her first Pokemon, and Nidoran girl materialized on her side of the field. "Nidoran, please don't poison whatever she lets out, alright?" Rayne said, a faint whisper, but she watched her Pokemon nod in understanding.

Alyss nodded to her opponent. She knew charity when she saw it and sighed under her breath. She looked weak... probably because the was. However... that didn't mean it always had to be this way. She nodded to herself. With this... win or lose, she decided to take it gracefully. It would be what her parents wanted after all. "P-Please fight with... with your best... I um, I know where I stand... but... we'll fight our hardest... so erm, I think you should as... as well..." Not really knowing what to say, she pulled out a Pokeball and threw it. "Rai..." she mumbled. "Show them your pride okay?"

It was an odd thing to say but for the yellow mouse that burst from the ball it fit well. He landed casually on all-fours and grinned coolly at the Nidoran, raising an eyebrow. One of those, apparently. Unlucky duck. It hadn't reached that one weirdo level he'd heard about where they couldn't be hurt by his amazing electricity. Thankfully, this guy wasn't going to handle this well then.

Alyss paused for a moment, thinking. Then she nodded to herself. She knew what first. "Rai... try to make her still." That sounded vague but Rai got the message. He let weak sparks fly from his cheeks, using Thunder Wave in small bursts as he ran towards the Nidoran. With this kind, Alyss remembered, it was best to keep your distance.

Rayne grinned again, and nodded her head at the girl's words. She liked her already. "Nidoran, dodge that Pikachu now and use Poison Sting." Nidoran did just that – its training with Pidgey allowed it to learn a few things and helped increase its speed if only just a little, and it jumped clear out of the way of the Pikachu.
It spun around, opened its mouth, and purple needles shot out, aiming straight for the Pikachu.
Alyss didn't smile, watching her Pokemon's move get dodged. Poison needles were flying closer incredibly fast. She thought fast and her lips lifted a little. "R-Rai... knock them out okay!" Rai grinned. He loved this idea. "Chaa!" He jumped and spun, knocking his tail at the needles. A couple lodged in his fur and he winced before leaping back up again, slightly slower with his back left paw. It was a tiny mark but Poison Stings added up.

Rai regained his balance as Alyss hurriedly commanded. "Thundershock!" He remained where he was, gesturing for the Nidoran to go after him, releasing a few bolts of electricity from his cheeks.

"Take the attack and charge at the Pikachu," Rayne commanded, and Nidoran rushed forward, taking the Thundershock head on. It may have faltered her a bit, but she continued to charge. "Double Kick." The Pokemon spun around when close to the Pikachu, kicking out with its two back feet.

"B-Block!" Alyss called and her Pikachu quickly flipped onto its front paws, holding back the feet with his tail. He shook visibly but held himself up. Gymnasts so had it rough. He began to fall, about to kicked into a rolling ball. "Thundershock!" Alyss commanded hurriedly and Rai released a second electric attack, allowing himself to be kicked over and tumble back against his trainer's legs as it burst. He shook his head. He so was not done yet. Never.

Nidoran took the next Thundershock, stumbling back a few feet before shaking her head to clear whatever she felt. "Can you still go on, Nidoran?" Her Pokemon nodded. "Alright, use Poison Sting again, now!" The Nidoran, who still looked ready to go, opened its mouth and again shot the poison needles at the Pikachu down at Alyss's feet.

Alyss stepped back quickly as her Pikachu dodged by a hair, rolling away. Unfortunately, two clipped his ear. He growled and scratched at it, causing Alyss to frown. "Can you go on?" Rai shrugged at her, rolling his eyes. No duh he could. "Um... all right... use..." She frowned to herself and then nodded. "Quick Attack." Rai panted but nodded, leaping toward his enemy as fast as he could muster. He knew he was tiring, tiring faster than he should be. Strong opponents did wear you out more so it was okay. Still he wanted to do better than this, much, much better. Electricity began to spark along his body, Static activating.

Alyss frowned, tilting her head. "What's... happening...?"

"No, stop it right there. Don't let it get close to you," Rayne commanded. That was Pikachu's ability – Static – that allowed opponents a chance of being paralyzed with a physical attack. "Poison Sting at a distance."

Nidoran once again opened her mouth quickly, and poison needles shot out towards the running Pikachu.

A few things occurred to Alyss at that moment. One of those was that Poison Sting could only be fired in a straight line, like a gun. Another was that Rayne didn't want Rai to get too close. The third, and perhaps most important thing of all to her, was that she was having fun. She was having fun and it was rather terrifying because this wasn't expected to be fun. She smiled a little more visibly now and called out. "Dodge and use Thunder Wave!"

Rai abruptly rolled to the side and obeyed, coming up and releasing more electricity towards Nidoran. He was almost out. He could feel it. The least he could do is take the porcupine with him. After releasing that wave, Rai launched himself forward to Quick Attack. "Wait... Rai!" He heard Alyss call but didn't listen. She had sacrificed her pride to him. He could honor that much, at least.

Rayne watched the Pikachu, and nodded her head, "Nidoran, shoot your Poison Sting against at the Thunder Wave, and then charge forward to Headbutt it," Rayne commanded, and her Pokemon did just that, shooting out Poison Sting. The poison needles contacted the Thunder Wave as Nidoran rushed forward, lessoning the damage, and hopefully the two Pokemon would collide head on.

Alyss winced slightly as Rai charged in, light flashing in her eyes for a moment. The two collided head on and Rai flew back, bouncing to tumble next to her, unconscious. Alyss braced herself, waiting for the misery and rage to flow in her veins. When it didn't she allowed herself a relieved sigh. She picked up Rai and patted his head. "Thanks," she murmured, returning him. She pulled out Sammy's Pokeball and waited.

Nidoran flew backwards, stumbling against the ground, once, twice, body sparking with electricity. She slowly tried to struggle to her feet, wincing with each attempt, until she finally did. But she looked completely worn out, panting, and also paralyzed by the Pikachu's attacks.

Rayne retrieved Nidoran's Pokeball and raised it. "Good job girl, return," The Nidoran smiled faintly and was transported back into the Pokeball. She put the ball away. "Alright, you choose your Pokemon first this time." Rayne smiled lightly, waiting and watching.

Alyss didn't have to think this time. "Sammy..." she whispered, throwing the ball gently into the air. "Go for it..." The otter back-flipped onto his feet and grinned, tapping a flipper against his shell with a grin.

"Osha." No translation needed.

"Alright," Rayne nodded her head. "So, you must have gotten your start from Professor Oak, correct?" Rayne took a Pokeball out of her jacket pocket and enlarged it. "Then I will use mine too."

"Shellshock!" The ball was thrown forward and in a flash of white light, Shellshock appeared, a Squirtle, and it was revving to go. It turned to Rayne really quick and whispered.

"(I know Bite now.)" it grinned and Rayne nodded, looking back at the Oshawott. They were both ready to go.

Alyss nodded quietly and said nothing, watching Sammy for a moment. The Pokemon looked super-excited and she smiled at him. Then he caught a glimpse of Shellshock and his eyes narrowed. Was that Pokemon going to steal his trainer? Oh no they weren't! Not while he had a shell and his dignity! He puffed up his chest angrily and nodded at Alyss. Alyss nodded at her now serious (sort of) starter. "Tackle," she murmured. Sammy threw himself forward delightedly, launching himself at the small but dangerous turtle.

"Wott!" he shouted at Shellshock. In other words: WHEE~

Rayne grinned at the otter's seriousness and watched it lunge itself forward. "Shellshock, jump forward, Withdraw, and spin," Rayne commanded. This was Shellshock's signature combo – jumping forward and withdrawing, shell spinning forward towards the otter, hoping to stop it dead in its tracks with its Tackle.

"Sammy, Water Gun!" Sammy, in midair at the time, shot the water at the ground, sending himself tumbling over the spinning shell to land on his tail. Sammy let out a yelp of dismay before getting up again and grinning.

"Shasha," it said to Rayne before looking back at Shellshock.

Alyss fidgeted a moment. She couldn't remember... what was that other move... oh. "Um... Focus Energy." Sammy sat down and began to concentrate. Being a rather... dim-witted otter at the moment, he had to stop everything he was doing to obey, leaving him an open target.

"Shellshock, Water Gun it now," Rayne commanded as Shellshock popped out of its shell, now on Alyss's battle side. It wasn't even phased by spinning in its shell, but it immediately opened its mouth, and sent a blinding fast jet of water towards the Oshawott. Thought it wouldn't do much damage, it could knock the Pokemon out of its Focus Energy.

Sammy was hit by the Water Gun and frowned quizzically at the sudden loss of focus. He shook his head to clear it and got up again. "Osha? Wott?" He waited patiently for directions before shaking his head. This was silly. He knew what to do. "SHAWOTT!" This is my playtime! He looked down at the ground and fired a Water Gun before propelling himself in a Tackle again. Slip and Slide! That was some human toy right?

Alyss giggled. Well that could work she supposed.

"Use your signature combo again, Shellshock, this time with water," Rayne commanded, still the calm and collected look across her face. And Shellshock quickly obeyed, launching forward and once again withdrawing into his shell. But as he began to spin and propel himself for the Oshawott, torrents of water began to shoot out of all of the shell's holes, spinning with the shell.

Clonk. The water didn't do much but the shell did, knocking straight into the little Oshawott's head. He spun back, sitting up and letting out a whine. "Wott..." "Ow..." He rubbed his head with a flipper, looking disheartened. Then he saw Alyss' worried expression and straightened, making a movement similar to clenching fists. "Osha!" He pulled off his shell, let out an adorable roar, and charged. "SHAAAA~" Unfortunately it wasn't a glowing Razor Shell but it could still pack a punch.

Rayne laughed. "That's a silly Oshawott you have there," Rayne said with a grin. "Shellshock, Water Gun, and then charge forward with another spin." Shellshock did just that – opening its mouth and releasing another torrent of water, and then launched himself forward in the torrent, withdrawing and spinning in his shell once more for the Oshawott.

Alyss nodded. "Um... yeah. I like that about him though..." She saw the way this was going and frowned. "Dodge with Water Gun again." This was feeling like a draw, mostly because Sammy was too silly to stop fighting and Shellshock was too strong. The Water moves weren't doing much regardless and there wasn't much else either in their arsenal could risk. Sammy meanwhile obeyed her command, landing back in front of her after a moment. "Now Sammy, Tackle quick!" The Oshawott ran to obey, trying to reach Shellshock before it could hit him again.

Shellshock landed back on its side of the field, turning to the Oshawott with a determined expression. "Shellshock, stand there and wait for it to come to you," Rayne commanded.

Her Squirtle waited and waited, until the Oshawott was just a few inches away. "Dodge, and Bite on its tail." Shellshock quickly stepped to the side of the attack, opened its mouth and attempted to bite down on the other water Pokemon's tail. And if he got it, Rayne began, "Now withdraw with the tail still in your mouth." It would make it easier so Shellshock wasn't an easy target when it was holding onto the tail.

Sammy let out a whining yelp of pain as his tail was bit down and nearly pulled fully into the shell. He flailed around helplessly, trying desperately to swing the Pokemon off. Alyss cringed but then nodded. "Sammy Water Gun yourself into the air." Not knowing what else to do, the Pokemon reflexively obeyed, throwing himself into the air once more. "Now um..." She nodded. "Tackle toward the shell!" Sammy didn't get it but threw himself at the shell, speeding up their fall. That really hurt his tail.

But Shellshock was still attached to the Oshawott's tail, and as they both fell, Rayne called out, "Shellshock, begin to spin." Shellshock began to spin in the air as the both of them descended, probably swinging Oshawott around in circles. "Now, let go of it." As it continued to spin, it let go of the Oshawott, still in the air.

"Osha~" He was dizzy now, very dizzy, but he wouldn't give up just yet. He released a Water Gun that sent him flying all over until he fell into Alyss' arms. He didn't struggle and Alyss smiled weakly and shook her head at Rayne. She knew Sammy could still fight but she didn't really want him too. It was Rayne's win, but she hadn't doubted it would be.

Shellshock landed on the ground in front of Rayne, winded from the battle put not majorly hurt. Rayne stepped forward with a nod, scooping him up in her arms and proceeding over to Alyss. Once close to the girl she outstretched a hand. "Good job," Rayne said with a smile. "You are a good trainer."

Alyss looked at her with quiet, nervous eyes. "Um... no, not yet." She reached out timidly and grabbed Rayne's hand. "But... I think I would like to be. You are, erm, very strong though."

"Haha, well thank you," Rayne said with a slight chuckle. "I… don't think I caught your name." Shellshock in her hands reached out towards Sammy warmly. "My name is Rayne."

"(I'm Shellshock.)" Shellshock said with a grin. "(Sorry about biting your tail.)"

Alyss nodded softly. "Alyss," she introduced herself. "My name is Alyss. It's a pleasure to meet you." She patted her partner's head as Sammy grinned and bounced delightedly in his human's arms. Battle over? Well okay then, his human was still his.

"Oshashawott." I'm Sammy and it's cool. Just don't take my trainer from me or I will make you pay. He said this with a very serious but adorable nod. He meant it, even though he really didn't look all that threatening.

"(It's okay, Rayne nor I will take your trainer away.)" Shellshock explained with its carefree grin.

"Well, it's nice to meet you, Alyss," Rayne said after the girl shook her hand. "I'd definitely like to meet up again." Rayne nodded before turning back to the doors of the Pokemon Center.

Sammy nodded "You'd better not!"

Alyss nodded back. "It was nice to meet you too..." I'd like to meet you again...
