Alyss didn't have to think this time. "Sammy..." she whispered, throwing the ball gently into the air. "Go for it..." The otter back-flipped onto his feet and grinned, tapping a flipper against his shell with a grin.
"Osha." No translation needed.
"Alright," Rayne nodded her head. "So, you must have gotten your start from Professor Oak, correct?" Rayne took a Pokeball out of her jacket pocket and enlarged it. "Then I will use mine too."
"Shellshock!" The ball was thrown forward and in a flash of white light, Shellshock appeared, a Squirtle, and it was revving to go. It turned to Rayne really quick and whispered.
"(I know Bite now.)" it grinned and Rayne nodded, looking back at the Oshawott. They were both ready to go.
Alyss nodded quietly and said nothing, watching Sammy for a moment. The Pokemon looked super-excited and she smiled at him. Then he caught a glimpse of Shellshock and his eyes narrowed. Was that Pokemon going to steal his trainer? Oh no they weren't! Not while he had a shell and his dignity! He puffed up his chest angrily and nodded at Alyss. Alyss nodded at her now serious (sort of) starter. "Tackle," she murmured. Sammy threw himself forward delightedly, launching himself at the small but dangerous turtle.
"Wott!" he shouted at Shellshock. In other words: WHEE~
Rayne grinned at the otter's seriousness and watched it lunge itself forward. "Shellshock, jump forward, Withdraw, and spin," Rayne commanded. This was Shellshock's signature combo – jumping forward and withdrawing, shell spinning forward towards the otter, hoping to stop it dead in its tracks with its Tackle.
"Sammy, Water Gun!" Sammy, in midair at the time, shot the water at the ground, sending himself tumbling over the spinning shell to land on his tail. Sammy let out a yelp of dismay before getting up again and grinning.
"Shasha," it said to Rayne before looking back at Shellshock.
Alyss fidgeted a moment. She couldn't remember... what was that other move... oh. "Um... Focus Energy." Sammy sat down and began to concentrate. Being a rather... dim-witted otter at the moment, he had to stop everything he was doing to obey, leaving him an open target.
"Shellshock, Water Gun it now," Rayne commanded as Shellshock popped out of its shell, now on Alyss's battle side. It wasn't even phased by spinning in its shell, but it immediately opened its mouth, and sent a blinding fast jet of water towards the Oshawott. Thought it wouldn't do much damage, it could knock the Pokemon out of its Focus Energy.
Sammy was hit by the Water Gun and frowned quizzically at the sudden loss of focus. He shook his head to clear it and got up again. "Osha? Wott?" He waited patiently for directions before shaking his head. This was silly. He knew what to do. "SHAWOTT!" This is my playtime! He looked down at the ground and fired a Water Gun before propelling himself in a Tackle again. Slip and Slide! That was some human toy right?
Alyss giggled. Well that could work she supposed.
"Use your signature combo again, Shellshock, this time with water," Rayne commanded, still the calm and collected look across her face. And Shellshock quickly obeyed, launching forward and once again withdrawing into his shell. But as he began to spin and propel himself for the Oshawott, torrents of water began to shoot out of all of the shell's holes, spinning with the shell.
Clonk. The water didn't do much but the shell did, knocking straight into the little Oshawott's head. He spun back, sitting up and letting out a whine. "Wott..." "Ow..." He rubbed his head with a flipper, looking disheartened. Then he saw Alyss' worried expression and straightened, making a movement similar to clenching fists. "Osha!" He pulled off his shell, let out an adorable roar, and charged. "SHAAAA~" Unfortunately it wasn't a glowing Razor Shell but it could still pack a punch.
Rayne laughed. "That's a silly Oshawott you have there," Rayne said with a grin. "Shellshock, Water Gun, and then charge forward with another spin." Shellshock did just that – opening its mouth and releasing another torrent of water, and then launched himself forward in the torrent, withdrawing and spinning in his shell once more for the Oshawott.
Alyss nodded. "Um... yeah. I like that about him though..." She saw the way this was going and frowned. "Dodge with Water Gun again." This was feeling like a draw, mostly because Sammy was too silly to stop fighting and Shellshock was too strong. The Water moves weren't doing much regardless and there wasn't much else either in their arsenal could risk. Sammy meanwhile obeyed her command, landing back in front of her after a moment. "Now Sammy, Tackle quick!" The Oshawott ran to obey, trying to reach Shellshock before it could hit him again.
Shellshock landed back on its side of the field, turning to the Oshawott with a determined expression. "Shellshock, stand there and wait for it to come to you," Rayne commanded.
Her Squirtle waited and waited, until the Oshawott was just a few inches away. "Dodge, and Bite on its tail." Shellshock quickly stepped to the side of the attack, opened its mouth and attempted to bite down on the other water Pokemon's tail. And if he got it, Rayne began, "Now withdraw with the tail still in your mouth." It would make it easier so Shellshock wasn't an easy target when it was holding onto the tail.
Sammy let out a whining yelp of pain as his tail was bit down and nearly pulled fully into the shell. He flailed around helplessly, trying desperately to swing the Pokemon off. Alyss cringed but then nodded. "Sammy Water Gun yourself into the air." Not knowing what else to do, the Pokemon reflexively obeyed, throwing himself into the air once more. "Now um..." She nodded. "Tackle toward the shell!" Sammy didn't get it but threw himself at the shell, speeding up their fall. That really hurt his tail.
But Shellshock was still attached to the Oshawott's tail, and as they both fell, Rayne called out, "Shellshock, begin to spin." Shellshock began to spin in the air as the both of them descended, probably swinging Oshawott around in circles. "Now, let go of it." As it continued to spin, it let go of the Oshawott, still in the air.
"Osha~" He was dizzy now, very dizzy, but he wouldn't give up just yet. He released a Water Gun that sent him flying all over until he fell into Alyss' arms. He didn't struggle and Alyss smiled weakly and shook her head at Rayne. She knew Sammy could still fight but she didn't really want him too. It was Rayne's win, but she hadn't doubted it would be.
Shellshock landed on the ground in front of Rayne, winded from the battle put not majorly hurt. Rayne stepped forward with a nod, scooping him up in her arms and proceeding over to Alyss. Once close to the girl she outstretched a hand. "Good job," Rayne said with a smile. "You are a good trainer."
Alyss looked at her with quiet, nervous eyes. "Um... no, not yet." She reached out timidly and grabbed Rayne's hand. "But... I think I would like to be. You are, erm, very strong though."
"Haha, well thank you," Rayne said with a slight chuckle. "I… don't think I caught your name." Shellshock in her hands reached out towards Sammy warmly. "My name is Rayne."
"(I'm Shellshock.)" Shellshock said with a grin. "(Sorry about biting your tail.)"
Alyss nodded softly. "Alyss," she introduced herself. "My name is Alyss. It's a pleasure to meet you." She patted her partner's head as Sammy grinned and bounced delightedly in his human's arms. Battle over? Well okay then, his human was still his.
"Oshashawott." I'm Sammy and it's cool. Just don't take my trainer from me or I will make you pay. He said this with a very serious but adorable nod. He meant it, even though he really didn't look all that threatening.
"(It's okay, Rayne nor I will take your trainer away.)" Shellshock explained with its carefree grin.
"Well, it's nice to meet you, Alyss," Rayne said after the girl shook her hand. "I'd definitely like to meet up again." Rayne nodded before turning back to the doors of the Pokemon Center.
Sammy nodded "You'd better not!"
Alyss nodded back. "It was nice to meet you too..." I'd like to meet you again...
