Hello, I would like to know how to obtain the fossils (excluding third generation)?

Hi! I have an interesting request. Do you think you would be able to loop the animation that the mons have when they come out?
I have a lot of difficulty understanding why no rom hack attempts this. Theoretically it should be simple, instead of the animation happening once, it happens repeatedly. It would make this Emerald look even better than gen 5, since it already has following mons.
I've tried doing this myself but I can't find enough time and information and make it happen.

If you mean the Battle Animations, I think it may not look as good as it does on paper.

And to be frank, I think Gen 5 sprites were specifically designed to loop their animation, whereas Gen 3 and even 4 (to some extent) weren't really designed with looping animations in mind.

Examples here:

As for this hack looking better than Gen5, I think that may be subjective, I'm chuffed with this hack and love it to bits, but to consider it better than Gen 5 I'd say may be a bit of a stretch, but again it's just a matter of opinion.

On the other hand, one has to keep in mind one crucial detail regarding any kind of suggestion, the Emerald MB Size limit, the cartridge memory can only hold so much, and that may cut short some of our wildest ideas.

So, with that being said, I think I understand why Looping Animations may be out of the table.

Nevertheless I may be wrong here, and I too would be interested in seeing a demo of this idea in action.

hi,
So, I caught Lugia and then found Entei and Suicune, but I can't find Raikou at New Mauville. Is there something special I need to do there?

I see your point! Imo tho, those animations look great except for Milotic, that blue shading thingy is just awful. I like all the other loops.

Hey man, I haven't played a Pokemon game in 10+ years, downloaded this expecting to play for 30 mins - 1 hour and sat playing NONSTOP for over 12 hours yesterday on the sofa using mGBA with controller lmao. Really good game. I have just now made it to Lillycove and can't seem to find a way to put my Hypno (called Uncle Bob) into the smart competitions to get the berry box thing. Am assuming I can't put any in there unless I play with a friend but I have none? Is there another way to do this? Cheers

🔍WHAT IS THIS HACK? (Updated to 2.1)

To put it simply, "Pokémon Modern Emerald" is a modernization of the original "Pokémon Emerald" game. This game offers all the QOL features and improvements that I've always wanted since I got my hands on the original game in 2005. Think of this as a 2.0 update for the original game. This game is not a "difficulty hack-rom", and never will be. If you want a super difficult version of Pokémon Emerald there are already a lot of good hack-roms available. The idea behind this game is to play it instead of the original "Pokémon Emerald", especially for those who want a vanilla experience with more features: simple difficulty modes, move splits, QOL features, new Pokémon, new areas, new rematches, and a large etc.

This hack is a "3rd generation hack", meaning that it doesn't try to mimic later generations and, although certain features and improvements from later generations are included, this hack is a 3rd generation game at its core. Don't expect all the new moves from later generations, or being able to catch 900 different Pokémon. This hack does not include the "Battle Engine Upgrade" or anything similar, but it does include certain mechanics from it (like the OPTIONAL Physical / Special split that happened in Gen. IV, or the Fairy Type). There are a total of 423 Pokémon, including 2 from Generation 8 and 3 from Generation 9.

In addition, the game is incredibly modular. When you start a new game, a menu that contains dozens of options to customize your experience will appear. This includes:
  • Gamemode: Select a preset to have a closer experience to the original Emerald, or a more up-to-date experience.
  • Features: Select a ton of new features that will enhance the game. Includes a Fake-RTC for those with flashcards / emulators without RTC.
  • Randomizer: Randomize every aspect of the game, from inside the game.
  • Nuzlocke: Create your Nuzlocke rules!
  • Difficulty: Customize the difficulty of the game with pretty simple options. Hard, or easy? Your choice.
  • Challenges: Select some challenges to test yourself.
This is what I envisioned while playing as a child, but even better!

The code is available on Github, and you can report bugs over there or in this thread.

The game works on any good emulator (tested on: mGBA on PC / Switch) and on real hardware (tested on: EZ Flash Omega [BUT YOU HAVE TO SELECT FLASH TYPE 128KB MANUALLY], Everdrive Mini).
As some emulators are too old or are missing new features other emulators have, certain emulators can cause crashes (OpenEMU, MyBoy, VBA...). USE MGBA IF YOU CRASH, then report the crash.

You need the ROM: Pokemon - Emerald Version (USA, Europe). sha1: f3ae088181bf583e55daf962a92bb46f4f1d07b7
Patch using flips.

You can check where all Pokémon are and more using my personal document.
You can check all the game code in my Github. My code can be messy and probably bad, especially the names of my commits. Sorry in advance. Modern Emerald has to be compiled with "make modern". Older compilers won't work.

🎞️CREDITS

I think it's easier to say that all my edits came from Pret's pokeemerald wiki. If you want to appear in this section, just message me and I will edit the post.

You can use this game as a base for your rom-hack, if you so desire.
You can use any code from the Github repository, if you really want to.
No need to credit me, just have fun.
hello!!! thank you for creating the rom hack!!! quick question, does the battle frontier have 6 vs 6 battles or its the normal 3 vs 3 ? thank you

i know if you get a blue shard can trade it for water stone somewhere, i havent yet found the shards nor even the place to trade it, hope that helps lol
It's okay lol. I finished my run anyways. I know you can get them from shards, but I was doing a randomizer, so I didn't have a reliable way of getting them.

The place to trade shards is near Mossdeep City.

Found some minor grammatical errors at the start of the game.

Spoiler: Cut for length. They're not in any particular order.

Found some minor grammatical errors at the start of the game. . .
Great catch.

The good thing about these grammatical errors is that they can be easily fixed with Hex Maniac Advance.

It should take something like. . . 30 minutes tops (or 1 hour if you have zero experience with these tools).

All you need is this video.

And here's more info abou HMA:

Nevertheless it's always nice to bring mishaps like these to the dev's attention, especially since text based are the most frequent but also the easiest to fix.

Hi all, I've got a problem with my save state, I think. I've been playing this rom hack for about a week now and have been working on the battle frontier tickets to catch the legendaries. When going for Mewtwo in the Altering Cave I noticed I could walk on the water right in front of its spawn point. I was a bit confused, but just thought it's a simple bug, as everything else was fine. 2 hours later I did some more battle frontier stuff with an auto clicker (maybe the cause of bugs?), when suddenly my game broke. I was able to walk through walls, my Pokédex was gone in the start menu and it said that I only had 2 badges. Luckily I still had another RetroArch save state, saved after catching Ho-Oh and Lugia, which I quickly loaded up, where everything seemed fine. So I quickly went to Mewtwo to check if the water bug is still there. Sadly it is. Not only that, but on the way to Mewtwo I encountered a ?????????? / Decamark in the cave. Never seen or heard of it before, I just searched for it online.
Is my save state broken? Can I check that somehow? If yes, am I able to recover it somehow? Besides this encounter and the fact, that I can run across the water patch in the Altering Cave, everything else still seems normal, but I'm afraid that the other bugs will happen again if I keep playing.

How can i make this work on emulator in my tablet? Sorry I'm having a bit of difficulty

How can i make this work on emulator in my tablet? Sorry I'm having a bit of difficulty
Assuming your tablet is using a compatible version of Android, I'd recommend looking for "Pizza Boy A" on the Playstore.

This isn't free advertisement btw , but Pizza Boy is pretty damn good at its job, I've been using it since it first released and in all these years I have never experienced any major issues that prevented me from playing any ROMHack, so it has earned my trust.

Anyways, once you have an emulator to play on, you're gonna need your Pokémon Emerald ROM File; you can get it with either a Burn Master, JoeyJR,GB Operator or a "Magic" 3DS (that speaks like a sea dog), just to name a few safe ways of getting a copy, then, you'll need the Patch File Attachment from the first post of this thread, afterwards just follow MR Sujano Tutorial here:

After all is said and done and you have the Patched Copy of Modern Emerald, save it into your Tablet's Folder; you'll need to excersice some files and folders management so everything is organized, but if you need help, check this other tutorial (it even shows some Screen Filters):

Fret not however, this isn't as hard as it sounds just tedious, but so is cooking haha, you got this champ.

If you need further help, consider visiting the EmulationOnAndroid Subreddit.

Looks like some sort of save corruption. There's nothing you can do as far as I'm aware. If you want, you can send me the save so I can investigate if this is a one time error or a common bug.

Hello, I'm in love with this game and really appreciate all the work you've put in to it.
Question - is there a way to obtain the plates that change Arceus' type? Or if not, how does his type change?

Also I can confirm I had the same walking on water bug with Mewtwo in Altering Cave and also encountered a ?????????. I just ignored the bugs and it did not impact the rest of the game.

Is there any way to implement quick moving of items within the party? I know select is used for fast organizing of the Pokemon, but there isn't one that I've noticed for items.

Also I noticed a few bugs (this was present in 2.3.1 not sure if these were fixed) where the two cool trainers underneath the bridge in Victory Road were able to see me and initiate a battle while I was on the bridge above them. There was another bug post game where after exiting the house post-E4 clear the first time it went through the script of having chosen the starter and giving me the option to rename it, being the first Pokemon in the party. Then when Birch upgrades to dex to national mode, May is not present. These aren't game breaking but just wanted to make you aware of these if you weren't already.

Other than that, loving the hack! Also, is updating to the newest version as simple as having a gba file with an updated patch and playing as normal, or are there certain updates that require starting from scratch?
