Emerald hack: Pokémon Modern Emerald (Complete, 2.3.3 Released! Following Pokémon, Modern Battle Frontier, and more!)

Hello there, I have only recently downloaded the game and started playing it, but I love it so far! Especially the shiny rate modifier because I am absolutely not a shiny hunter, so boosting my odds doesn't bother me at all lol. Especially since the highest is the same rate as PoGo.

I did have one quick question, just because I'm unsure where to find the info if it is already on here. Are Umbreon and Espeon available in the game, and if so, is it the same evolution method as in other games?

Thanks!

So, might be something of a weird request, but with the physical special split option, would you ever consider an option to stat rebalance certain pokemon? There's kinda been a thing the games have avoided reckoning with post gen 4 that some Pokemon have lost their identity because of having attacking stats built around type based Split, big example is Sceptile not being able to effectively use it's own signature move after it's first game. Would an option to play with adjusted attacking stats with the physical/Special split ever be something you would consider?

Is there any way to implement quick moving of items within the party? I know select is used for fast organizing of the Pokemon, but there isn't one that I've noticed for items.

Also I noticed a few bugs (this was present in 2.3.1 not sure if these were fixed) where the two cool trainers underneath the bridge in Victory Road were able to see me and initiate a battle while I was on the bridge above them. There was another bug post game where after exiting the house post-E4 clear the first time it went through the script of having chosen the starter and giving me the option to rename it, being the first Pokemon in the party. Then when Birch upgrades to dex to national mode, May is not present. These aren't game breaking but just wanted to make you aware of these if you weren't already.

Other than that, loving the hack! Also, is updating to the newest version as simple as having a gba file with an updated patch and playing as normal, or are there certain updates that require starting from scratch?
Also I can confirm I had the same walking on water bug with Mewtwo in Altering Cave and also encountered a ?????????. I just ignored the bugs and it did not impact the rest of the game.

Please remember to add which emulator you are using, or which flashcard if you are using real hardware. These issues cannot be easily reproducible, and I had dozens of reports where the issue were the emulators used.

Updates will not require a new save unless stated. Even if that happens again (probably not), you can just trade your old party to the new version.

Hello, I'm in love with this game and really appreciate all the work you've put in to it.
Question - is there a way to obtain the plates that change Arceus' type? Or if not, how does his type change?
Arceus has to hold one of the type boosting items (eg. Magnet). When holding any of these items, and while doing a move from that type, Arceus will multiply its damage so it deals an equal amount of damage as STAB does.

The game is rebalanced if you are using the "Better stats", "Modern types" and "Modern movepool" already. This can be selected individually, so you can customize your experience. I recommend activating everything if you are going to use the GEN 4 Split, and disabling "Modern movepool" if you are not going to use the GEN 4 split.

Are the randomized moves type-related? As in Fire pokemon learn randomized moves of the same type it originally had?
Also, when you randomize items, is it possible to delay the nuzlocke rules until after you can buy pokeballs from the mart? You usually lose the first encounter on route 101 otherwise, since you don't get pokeballs initially from beating your rival.

Gotcha, thanks for the heads up. I was using the mGBA core in Retroarch.

This is peak!!! Are you planning on doing something similar for firered/leafgreen?

This is definitely one of my favorites Emerald Rom hacks. It's super customizable and packed with features within the vanilla Emerald story. I love it.

The only "complaint" I have is with the day/night cycle; at night, it gets WAY too dark, and in places like Petalburg Woods, the game becomes so difficult to see on my emulation device that I frequently have to wait for the fake RTC to pass the time, or I can't see the game at all. I really wish there was a way to adjust the darkness or turn off the day/night cycle...

Just wanted to say how much I adore this rom (best one I've ever played) and wanted to ask if you would consider adding later generations of mons? Getting to play this Rom with a Greninja would be incredible!

Hello! Thanks for the great hack, just wanted to confirm something. If I turn off modern spawning will I still be able to catch the version exclusive mons that were not present in emerald?

Also what do you mean exactly by modern typing? Like did you add types that are not present even in the most recent games or change their types to reflect types they are in more recent games?

And lastly is there a way to apply the decaptilization patch to this?

Thanks for putting this romhack together it's been great fun so far! <3
Unfortunately my savegame somehow got corrupted while fighting in the Battle Frontier Dojo 😭 😭

It's really weird, I can walk through anything, I lost all but 2 arena badges and a lot of progress markers I think. Here's a video:

Edit: oh, looks like I'm not the first one with this issue after spending time at the Battle Frontier:
Hi all, I've got a problem with my save state, I think. I've been playing this rom hack for about a week now and have been working on the battle frontier tickets to catch the legendaries. When going for Mewtwo in the Altering Cave I noticed I could walk on the water right in front of its spawn point. I was a bit confused, but just thought it's a simple bug, as everything else was fine. 2 hours later I did some more battle frontier stuff with an auto clicker (maybe the cause of bugs?), when suddenly my game broke. I was able to walk through walls, my Pokédex was gone in the start menu and it said that I only had 2 badges. Luckily I still had another RetroArch save state, saved after catching Ho-Oh and Lugia, which I quickly loaded up, where everything seemed fine. So I quickly went to Mewtwo to check if the water bug is still there. Sadly it is. Not only that, but on the way to Mewtwo I encountered a ?????????? / Decamark in the cave. Never seen or heard of it before, I just searched for it online.
Is my save state broken? Can I check that somehow? If yes, am I able to recover it somehow? Besides this encounter and the fact, that I can run across the water patch in the Altering Cave, everything else still seems normal, but I'm afraid that the other bugs will happen again if I keep playing.

The game has also been crashing on me from time to time, but nothing too bad. I started saving often so I wouldn't loose much progress in case of crash. I should have made more regular savegame backups though 😭 (The crashes were not really reproducible so far, so I was lazy about reporting them..)

One other thing I meant to report: I couldn't get trading to work. I tried it with two instances of mgba, but they just wouldn't connect. It worked fine when I tried trading between two Leafgreen games though.

The game never gets this dark. It has to do with some of your settings, your base rom, or something else outside my control.

Which flashcard are you using? I'm also interested in seeing if flashcards also affect the game. I have hundreds of hours clocked between different savegames on an Everdrive and never had a crash while playing, nor any of many bugs reported by some people (that I can't also reproduce).

I'm also using an EverDrive (the EverDrive-GBA X5 mini to be precise). In case it's relevant: I had the Debug menu enabled and I used it to edit a few of my party pokemon. I edited the level, IVs and some moves. I don't think I've used any other feature of the debug menu. I'm playing mostly with vanilla settings, though I had my starter Pokémon randomized.

I've attached the corrupted savegame and an earlier one that's still intact, maybe this can help you to track down the problem.

Edit: oh, I also had graphic glitches on the summary pages of my party Pokémon from time to time. But I just ignored those.

Hey! No issues, I want to say I love this romhack. I wish there was one for every version of Pokemon so I could use your QoL options and randomizer on them!

Thanks for all the work!

Really like the hack -- Is there any chance you can add that new gamer corner expansion. It's called Chris Piche's Game Corner expansion. Would love to have more options in the game corner

Hey all! I think I might have missed it, but I cannot for the life of me find the Old Fishing Rod. Was it moved from OG Emerald?

Never mind, I was playing a Nuzlocke and wiped, so I'm starting over either way. :osha-scared:

I think i found a bug. If you randomomize the trainer pokemon every trainer with more than one pokemon seems to have his first pokemon x times and not a veraity of different pokemon.
