Pokémon Mystery Dungeon - Danger above

"Yea, I think so," Ranger was breathing heavily. All that fire had consumed a lot of the oxygen in and around his body, making it very hard to breath. He looked around, dizzy, the world spinning in front of him, "Unless Despair isn't gone, then stop the world, I want to get off," he collapsed in the snow for a second and the snow snapped him back to his senses. It took about 30 seconds but when the cold finally settled into the tired flygons body, he jumped up, beating his wings hard and letting out small puffs of fire to heat himself up again.
"In any case, we should most certainly be getting back," he looked at everyone with him. The Medicham was on her knees in front of Melrose.
Ranger gently patted her back with his tail, "We wouldn't have defeated Despair though. If you had died you would have been a martyr, if not to the rest of the world, than at least for us," Ranger focused his attention on Melrose, trying to figure out a way that he might carry her small prison back. He saw her shiver and blew a little fire over the sphere, hopefully finally drying her off.
"Could I just carry it back?" he asked.

Melrose squatted down in her prison and faced Lu-Lu. "Without you, we wouldn't have defeated Despair. And you got to learn how to block out a specter from your mind, right?" she tried to comfort her a little but couldn't lend her a hand to get up on her feet again. "It's all right," she groaned, "it could be worse, in my opinion." With these words, she thought back to the moment where she lost her tail. An earthquake struck her village and her house was completely demolished. While digging her way through the rubble, her tail got lodged between two large rocks and was torn off. She had to move to Pokémon Square right after that. Chii was still alive then, but lost her life a few weeks after. She shivered again and then, the Flygon heated the sphere up a little. She smiled at him with a warm expression on her face. She turned back to Lu-Lu. "Please don't feel guilty or anything like that. You'll wear yourself out if you keep on doing that. With a little bit of luck, somebody at the agency knows how to liberate me," she said with the same, warm smile on her little black face.

Caitlin saw Ranger had a lot of trouble to maintain balance and she helped him up on his feet. "I think that's the best way to transport Melrose at the moment," she sighed when he offered to carry the sphere on his back. "If you need any help, don't hesitate to ask me, Ranger," she said with a little smile on her face. She then turned to Mortimer and clear things up for him a bit, he was terribly confused. "Mortimer, allow me to explain. Despair and Melrose might not look like it, but they are both very skilled with spells and magic. It was actually Melrose's plan to defeat Despair by capturing him inside a sphere, but Despair apparently knew the same spell and turned tables. We have tried to keep that spell out of his hands for as long as possible, but he somehow managed to obtain it anyway. I wonder why, but yeah, since he's gone, I think that it's going to be harder with every minute..." she explained to the Camerupt, who stared at them as if they were standing on lava.

Ranger smiled back at Melrose, happy that the worst was over and that the eevee was safe. His expression grew more serious as he looked for a hold on the prison and after a few minutes of contemplation, dug his claws into the ball of energy and flapped his wings. The prison itself was very light and he felt as if he were carrying only Melrose again, minus the warmth of her small body.
He looked towards the Bayleef from his lofty position, "I'm good. When you've lived in the desert and used fire as much as I have, you can recover pretty quickly from lack of oxygen. Anyways, free flygon rides for whoever can fit. Mortimer, unless someone wants to stay here and walk with you, everyone can fit, I'm sure."

"I'll keep Mortimer company, thank you very much." Caitlin declined the offer and turned around to the Camerupt. She was happy that everything turned out well. Her large neck made her head turn around to look at the situation, almost in an impossible way. This way, it was impossible to overlook something. At least, that was what she thought...

Melrose looked down with a hint of fear in her eyes. She was fearless, completely, but being trapped within a spell wasn't all that comforting. She felt totally helpless up there, while in Ranger's claws. For some reason, she wanted to whip her tail - an urge that she hadn't felt for years. She frowned and couldn't help but to look down into the snow and try to spot anything out of the ordinary. She saw nothing either...

From the shadows, somebody spied them. Despair was gone but the danger hadn't gone away. The Umbreon smirked, turned around and bolted off.

While they were still only a feet off the ground, Ranger gently wrapped his tail around the snivy and put him on his back, then the Medicham.
He saw how uneasy Melrose was and tried to comfort her, "Don't worry," he said kindly, "Even if the spell dissipates, I'll catch you. I won't let you fall," he gave her a gentle smile and started to gain altitude. "I'm off! I'll see you two back in town," Ranger gave Mortimer and Caitlen a quick salute with his tail and started flying at a leisurely pace back to town.

Melrose listened to Ranger's comforting voice as he took off. She wasn't that afraid of altitude, and she wasn't worried because of the height or the probability to fall, because she'd just use the Fly Spell, which she had used a couple of times earlier. She was very skilled in the sky, but she was unable to maintain this capability for long. She needed frequent rest after even the shortest of flights, and she thought that it was like that because she is not a Flying-Type. She looked Ranger in the eyes. "Like I ever doubted that, Flygon," she said, in an attempt to sound tough. She looked down to the ground again and thought she saw something. Something was on the move, and she spotted it with her sharp eyesight. She narrowed her eyes and pushed herself against the curved walls of the sphere. Something black as the night ran through the snow. "Gain altitude," Melrose said, focusing on the creature. It looked like it was targeting them. "No questions, just gain altitude!"

Lu-Lu

Melrose seemed to be extremely distressed at something below them. It didn't take long for Lu-Lu to spot it as well; a dark shadow seemingly moving alongside them. Melrose quickly told Ranger to gain Altitude, while Lu-Lu prepared a psycho-cut. Whatever this specter was, Lu-Lu would not allow herself to be caught off guard once again. Lu-Lu swung her arm in the direction of the shadow and sent a Psycho-cut in it's direction, in the hopes of giving Ranger more time to distance them from it.

Mortimer

Mortimer began walking alongside Caitlin, enjoying the calm trot back.
"So, you two use magic and stuff like that? In all my days, I've never heard of such a thing. What kinds of things can you do, y'know besides trappin' each other inside of spheres." Mortimer paused for a moment to look at the silhouette of ranger and his passengers. Suddenly, a bright pink slash of energy came from his back; Mortimer could only assume it was Lu-Lu's work.
"I think there might be somethin' going on over there." Mortimer said, wishing he wasn't so heavy or slow. He could have been there helping them right now.

Ranger stuck his tongue out at Melrose when she called him "Flygon." The one pokemon he had actually bothered to tell his name to and she wasn't using it. When the eevee told him to go higher though, Ranger didn't argue, he just angled his wings and tail and started to climb. He had spotted the shadow too and started flying faster, making larger wing strokes.
"What is it?" he asked urgently, at least knowing what it was that he would be racing against.

Melrose took a closer look through the sphere by narrowing her eyes. She had amazing senses and that included eyesight. "It looks like..." she tried to distinguish its form and suddenly gasped. She knew who this was, and she knew that all the security they now had high up in the sky was gone with the wind. "Midnight, the Umbreon! Fly, for Arceus's sake!" she shouted loudly, hoping that Ranger would listen to her. She remembered what Midnight did to her, the agency, her friends and especially Chii, her sister. She damned the fact that she couldn't battle from here and that she couldn't escape. This could become a nasty situation if Midnight were to strike.

Midnight looked up to the Flygon, which was now gaining altitude. He cursed. He could hear Melrose's distressed calls and then, a pink flash shot his way. He avoided being hit and probably being knocked out right away. They were getting him wrong, he needed help! But if he'd yell now, another avalanche would be started and that was one thing that Midnight loathed. He loathed being stuck somewhere. Seemed logical that he escaped from prison and knocked out everybody who came in his way then. Melrose was still incredibly angry with him, but as Midnight looked up, he now saw that Melrose was captivated in some kind of sphere. Midnight smirked, this could become fun if Melrose would keep resisting this time. He saw that the Flygon had extremely unusual colours. It was time for him to strike, it would be just a matter of minutes before his daughter would be healed again.

Caitlin was still talking with Mortimer. "Yes, yes we do," she said with a smile. "The most tricky part about magic is that you really need to keep control over your actions. If that doesn't happen, you could cause a massive explosion. Anyway, except for creating magical prisons, we can also simply fight with it. Melrose's favourite spell is the Thunder Spell. Two thunderbolts shoot out of the palms of your hand by doing that. That's why Melrose's codename... oops," she said with a little bit of shock in her eyes. Mortimer was one of the pokémon in this group who didn't know about their dual identity. Luckily, something caught Mortimer's attention. Caitlin followed his glance and looked right at a scene which looked like a sky battle. She gulped. "I think so too. Let's hustle!" She ran off, as fast as she could.

"I have something up my wing that I learned specifically to get out of a situation like this... Well, I learned it for a worse situation, but it will work here too," Ranger said and his eyes started glowing the color of the Aurora Borealis, creating bright flashes of blues, greens and purples. The sky darkened and started glowing the same color, "Draco Meteor!" Ranger called out and the sky made a terrifying roar as the glow faded from Rangers eyes. Meteors the size of Ranger himself came crashing down from the lights in the sky. On their own, each meteor was about as accurate as throwing a shoe at a flying bird, but together and pointed in more or less the same direction, it was devastating. When the lights faded from the sky, he turned his head to look at his passengers. "Is everyone alright?"

Melrose's jaw dropped to the sight of this completely demolishing attack. She shuddered, this was unlike everything she had experienced in her life. She simply had to learn this as well. "I think so, Ranger. What the hell was that?!" she yelled upwards, in his direction. She looked back to the ground again and saw what destructive effect the attack had to the landscape. Everything was gone. The snow was molten, the mountains lost their shape and Midnight seemed to have dissolved into the complete mess Ranger had created. "This is unbelievable," she growled.

Midnight suddenly jumped up from the smoke and used his spell. His eyes glowed red and he spoke words that Melrose thought was Latin. "Ranger, watch out!" she yelled. It was too late, though, because Two rings were now forming around all of their wrists. Rings of control. Midnight was taking them over, right here and now. And it wouldn't be long before they couldn't control their actions on their own anymore.

Lu-Lu

Lu-Lu's wrists became bound in a spell she did not recognize. Lu-Lu could not use magic herself, but she studied it enough to learn of it's implications. The Medicham resisted her bindings, but it became clear that strength is not what she needed if she was to break out of this. Her psyche suddenly got filled with determination of escape towards this Umbreon that dared try to imprison her. She had dealt with the likes of those who had removed her freedom before, and she would not allow herself to be restrained so easily once more.

Lu-Lu built her focus, and released the energy in the form of a Focus-Blast towards the attacking Umbreon. If Lu-Lu will be restrained once again, she would like to go out making the Umbreon regret trying to restrain her.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Mortimer

Mortimer did his best to trot beside Caitlin, but it was apparent he wasn't keeping up very well. Mortimer curled up into a ball and began rolling, soon picking up speed and going into a roll-out attack. Mortimer may be very heavy, but it works to his advantage when rolling. Mortimer continued rolling in the direction of the action, picking up speed as he went.

Midnight jumped sideways and narrowly escaped the Focus Blast. If he would've been hit, the results would've been disastrous for him. A loud growl escaped his mouth, he wasn't about to let them just go, Moira needed treatment for her wounds! His tail whipped in anger as he approached Lu-Lu again. Another attack was what he performed and so he assaulted the Medicham again. "You're all getting me wrong in this!" he yelled in distress. It was the only thing he could bring out in his fury. His shoulders raised. He had to prevent his daughter from dying in the cold.

Melrose felt powerless, she couldn't do anything to avoid Midnight from pouncing at Lu-Lu, now that she was locked in and the rings took a hold of her free will. She didn't understand Midnight's intentions this time, but she simply couldn't trust this thug. "Tell me how I 'get this wrong'!" she yelled at him. "Come on, out with it!" She was incredibly mad for what he did and how he tried to get them under his control this way. She tried to break the spell which immobilized her now, but the attempt was in vain. The only spell she knew for occasions like this didn't work, no matter how many times she tried.
Midnight whiffed at her in anger. "My daughter, Moira, is on the brink of dying! She needs help, and right away!"
Melrose whiffed back. "And why would I do that?! She almost killed me! You almost killed me!"
"Because it's your job to help others in need, right?!"
"See if I care for pokémon like you!" Melrose yelled so loudly that her throat hurted.

Caitlin saw Mortimer's trouble with keeping up, but he soon recovered by using his Rollout. He now almost passed Caitlin, so she had to run a little faster to keep up with the amazing speed of the massive Fire-Type.

Ranger still held on to the sphere containing Melrose, even as his wrists were bound. Soon though, they were on the ground, and Ranger was laying there, silent and still. He had crashed hard and couldn't move; he could barely breath and was gasping. When he recovered, he stood up slowly and saw Melrose, yelling at an umbreon. Being a flygon, ranger wasn't particularly good at sneaking around, but he could get by. He slowly crept up behind the umbreon and knocked him flat with his tail, having no access still to his hands. He wrapped the end of his tail around the umbreons ankles and lifted him in front of his face.
"I'd be right in the right mind to burn your face off right now," he growled, flashing his sharp teeth. "Get out. Leave us alone. We just stopped one nearly invincible enemy, the last thing we need is you coming and ruining the five minutes of peace we had," Ranger slammed the umbreon into the ground and then flung him away. "And don't threaten Melrose again or I'll tear of your ears and wear them like a necklace."

Midnight found himself in serious trouble, now that his ankles were bound together by Ranger's incredibly muscular tail, which lifted him like he was a simple scrap of paper. He heavily struggled until Ranger smacked him into the ground and flung the Dark-Type away. He hit the ground and groaned, unable to regain the control over the Flygon. His eyes flashed around but he was unable to speak or get up to his feet at the moment. The Flygon's threats were a serious matter and he knew that if he'd try any of the tricks he had up his sleeve, the orange dragon would pin him to the ground and torture him to death. But he had to rescue Moira. "Melrose, I'm begging you to help me," he groaned in pain.
Melrose took a look at her wrists and tried to break the spell. "Why should I?" she said in a cold and bitter tone.
"I-I'll do anything you want!"
"You really care about that despicable brat, don't you?" Melrose looked him in his scared eyes, which now turned a furious red.
"That's it!" Midnight yelled. Using the rings, he gained control over Melrose and pushed her to the inside of the sphere. He then dashed forwards and kicked the prison down a ravine. He turned to Ranger and regained full control over him with the rings, which now began glowing like the moon. He made him lie down on the ground and approached him. He dug his large claws into his throat and bit the back of his long neck. 'Great,' he thought, 'I'm in front of Moira's single hope and I become hungy as hell. Well, one sacrifice shouldn't be all that bad.' His stomach made a sudden growl and Midnight couldn't contain himself: he had captured a truly wonderful meal. He completely forgot about everything and bit into Ranger's throat.

"No!" Ranger shouted and was about to go over the cliff and after Melrose, but suddenly he couldn't move. He had no idea what was going on, but suddenly he felt pain. It wasn't severe pain at first, only a few sharp pricks from the claws and then the teeth. The pain became very severe after the umbreon actually dug in to his throat. Ranger cried out and started trying to move, but he couldn't. Every few seconds, he would release an involuntary puff of fire and his eyes started watering. Was he actually going to be eaten alive?
"I'm only 15 ya know..." he had to gasp for breath. "Melrose is younger. Are you really planning on taking my life by eating me? And you just threw a 14 year old girl off of a cliff. I can take both of our lives right now and you won't even get a good share of meat," Ranger said that last part with a small, maniacal laugh. His eyes started glowing again and so did the sky. "Draco meteor!" he called out with the last of his energy and collapsed as the sky roared and the meteors started streaking towards them.

"I know that stubborn kid is younger, Flygon," Midnight said with a smirk on his face. The feeling of blood in his mouth and throat felt good, and delighted, he let go of his prey. Now he had to focus on rescuing his daughter. It was really stupid of him to kick Melrose down that ravine, since she knew a terrific healing spell, but that didn't matter. He just had to make it out of here, unscatched. He then heard a loud rumble and a roaring sound as everything around him and the Flygon started glowing. The sudden manical laughter of the dragon raised questions as Midnight stood up from his meal and backed away. He then looked up to the sky and gasped: meteors came falling out of nowhere, and they're were obviously targeting the two. "No way, prick," he scolded. He then bolted towards Ranger, got on his back and made him fly off. He wouldn't get killed in an attack like that. Moira would surely come to death when Midnight wouldn't be around anymore.

Meanwhile, Melrose's prison hit the ground of the ravine. Miraculously, she was completely okay, despite having some little bruises. For the first time in her life, she was glad to be imprisoned. Hearing sounds of screams of terror, seeing the sky turn into a glowing aurora-like beauty and seeing meteors crash down from the heavens, her jaw dropped and she was breathless. She was completely sure that she was going to die and could only stare upwards in awe and pure fear. Fear this immense was dangerous. Her heart beat like mad and her widened eyes showed anxiety. None of the meteors actually hit her, but she became surrounded by stones. When the shower was over and it became quiet as hell, Melrose let out a loud and distressed call. "HELP ME!" she screamed. "SOMEBODY, HELP!!"

(Wait, where is Lu-Lu just now? I'm a bit confused with the way this unfolded.. whatever.)

Lu-Lu

Lu-Lu resisted her bonds with all of her strength. She had to get the Umbreon away from Ranger before things got any worse. Hopefully, Melrose's prison will serve to protect her from the drop into the ravine. However, the Flygon called upon another Draco Meteor, and the Umbreon got on Ranger and forced him to fly off. "Well, this is it." Lu-Lu thought to herself as the Meteors descended upon her. A direct hit with such a powerful attack would surely end her. She closed her eyes just as a meteor closed into her position..

----------------------------------------------------------

Mortimer

Just then Mortimer got out of his roll-out and skid to a halt in front of Lu-Lu. The Draco meteor struck Mortimer's side he could do nothing but moan in pain as he was repeatedly struck with the attack. When the barrage was finally over, Mortimer sighed from relief before he lay down on his stomach.
"Whew.. it's a good thing I managed to get here in time. W-where are the others?" The Camerupt said as he examined the damage done to his side.
"HELP ME! SOMEBODY, HELP!!" came a shout from below the ravine.
"Who said that?" Mortimer lifted himself off of the ground and walked over to the ravine.

"Hello? Who's down there?!" Mortimer looked down in the ravine. He couldn't see anything with so many meteors piled up on each other.

(I thought Lu-Lu was with Ranger - and currently Midnight- and sorry for the confusing)

Somebody kicked Lu-Lu out of the meteor range and brought her into safety under the comfort of a cave ceiling. "Are you all right, Lu-Lu? That was close, Medicham!" Caitlin was the one who rescued her. "Mortimer and I saw what was happening over here and decided to rush over and help out. It was obviously bad news," she elaborated. The Grass-Type was fast enough to keep both of them from being struck by the large rocks from outer space. "Where's Midnight, and Ranger? Have you seen them?!" she quickly asked with a hint of fear in her eyes. She was a bit concerned about the Flygon's safety, and although she didn't really care for Midnight, she didn't want him to fly into some random direction and wreak havoc. Her vines disappeared into her neck and she sighed a little to calm herself down.

Melrose saw Mortimer through a daze before her eyes. "Mortimer, help me!!" she yelled in pure fear. "It's Melrose!" she cried out. Two large tears slid down her cheeks and made her face wet without her even noticing. She yelled his name again and fiercely hoped that he'd spot her and come to save her. She now realized in what incredible mess she had wound up in. She suddenly thought of something of importance. Due to the night's shade hovering over the landscape, it was probably hard for the Camerupt to see anything at all. To make herself somewhat clearer, she snapped her fingers and whispered the Light Spell. Her right hand now spread a bright light. "I'm over here!!" she yelled.

Lu-Lu

Lu-Lu was brought into a cave by Caitlin. Lu-Lu rose to her feet.
"I'm fine." Lu-Lu said brushing dirt off of herself. "But Ranger could be in trouble. An umbreon attacked us and used one of his spells to capture Ranger. He seemed to be familiar with Melrose.. Wait! Melrose! She dropped into the ravine!"

-----------------------------------------

Mortimer

Mortimer did not know how to get Melrose out of the ravine. She must still be inside of the magic-thingy and she was trapped under a pile of rubble. Mortimer didn't have the frame to jump into the ravine and pull her out. He thought for a moment. But something came to him.
"Wait a minute.. I'm a ground type!" Mortimer brought one powerful hoof down to the ground and caused the earth to tremble. A large chunk of rock rose up from under Melrose and gently lifted her out of the ravine.
"Don't worry, I gotcha'." Mortimer said as he took Melrose's spherical prison and placed it inside one of the volcanic hole in his back.
"And don't worry, I won't erupt." Mortimer made his way towards Caitlin who had taken Lu-Lu into the cavern.
"I have Melrose!"
