After finishing up his buisness in the bar, Snype had to set out and search for the other thieves. Hopefully either causing trouble or finding useful information. Snype had recieved a handfully of it himself thanks to his various methods and his current identity which he'd have to let the other thieves in on. So far things were going smoothly but Snype still needed a couple of answers, such as who this Savior was. At least before he made himself look like a fool and screwed everything up. Chances are this Brotherhood already knew of Snype's presence and if they were real criminal types, they'd see through Snype's disguise.

This whole heist may have been related to the brotherhood for all he knew. That Raticate must be involved. Several hints just seemed to be pointing toward that possibility. For now, Snype would have to roll with it and see what happens. Snype would have to keep his improvised plans going for now until he finished his connection with folks of the lower district.

Kaveri had her goals set: find a nice, bustling bar, chat it up with the local drunks, and- WAS THAT A CANDY STORE?! Her tails twitched out from underneath her robe as she perused the small building with a greedy look in her eyes and confirmed that it was indeed a candy store. Well, she had money to spend, and the store owner would probably be more than happy to chat it up with a generous customer... Before she could even have thoughts of resisting, she was in the store and staring with childish delight at the shelves of chocolates, caramelized sugars, candied berries, and numerous other treats.

Pausing for a moment before she lost herself in giddiness, Kaveri pulled out her money pouch to double-check how much she had. She'd have to be careful not to get carried away and spend it all in one place. Nodding in satisfaction she stowed the pouch away again; then the candy shopping spree began.

The store owner stared at the Floatzel in bewilderment as Kaveri scooped piles of candy into her arms, somehow managing to hold it all without dropping even a single piece. When she could hold no more, she transported her load to the counter and leaned against the surface with a large grin on her muzzle. "I'll be taking all of this. And if you've got a bag, that'd be helpful."

The owner, a Duosion, glanced between Kaveri and the mound of candy with wide eyes, then chuckled as he seemed to understand something. "Lots of kids?"

"Nope! I'm gonna be eating all of this myself!" Kaveri declared.

The Duosion stared at Kaveri in silent disbelief for a few long moments as the Floatzel just waited patiently, still grinning. "Well, uh...," he sputtered, then cleared his throat, smiling broadly. "Well, I won't complain about good business!" The price he gave Kaveri after he had finished sorting through just what she was buying left Kaveri with enough money to still have a few drinks if there was still time later. But first, it was time to make this trip useful.

"Nice little setup yeh got here, eh? I regret not finding it sooner! I've never seen a shop with such a large selection of sweets," she said as she popped a lump of caramelized sugar into her mouth. 'Oh, pecha flavor.'

"Aye, that it is," The Duosion replied with a grin. He looked around the shop as if to admire it. "I inherited it from my uncle actually. He was going to give it to his son, but... well, you know, that happened. Anything else I can get for you, miss?"

Kaveri nodded understandingly, pausing from candy-consuming for a moment in respect for whatever that was. "Hmm, yes, that was quite the tragedy. At least it's over now though, eh?" She hoped it was, anyways, or she'd sound like quite the fool. At his next question, she simply shook her head and hefted the bag of candy up. "Trying to squeeze even more change outta me, eh? Heh, I gotta save at least some money for the necessities!" she chuckled.

"Aye, thank the savior for that, huh?" The Duosion stated with a sigh. He quickly perked up again and let a chuckle escape his lips. "Can't blame a Duosion for tryin' though, right?"

"Thank the Savior indeed," Kaveri said in agreement, then decided to go out on a limb and assume this "Savior" was an actual 'mon and not just some deity the Tollenians worshipped. After all, if the Savior was just a part of some religion in Tollen, she was fairly certain she would have heard of it before their borders closed. "Makes me wonder where we'd be without him, eh?"

The Duosion shook his head violently. "I don't even wanna think about it," He said as he shut his eyes. He then pointed outside and smiled. "You know he came by this street one time? Right down over there. He was right outside my shop! They say he was born just down the Oddish trail, you know."

Kaveri's eyes widened and she leaned forward like a child listening to a thrilling story. "Really? That close? What was he like? Did you get to meet him?" Rather than sounding like a drilling interrogation, she seemed more like a curious child, which was something she acted like most of the time anyways. She was opening her mouth as if to add on to the barrage of questions when she blinked and straightened, rubbing the back of her head sheepishly. "Ahah, sorry, I'm often told I'm a bit eager for a 'mon my age. You're a lucky 'mon, though, being able to see the Savior up close like that!"

"Well, hold on now," The Duosion began, scratching his head. "I didn't actually meet him. Well, I did, but I didn't see him directly, more like from a gathered crowd. But a friend of a friend of mine saw him! And even shook his hand. Said he was the most personable mon he had ever met, like he was one of us! But I also heard he had this regal presence about him. Like he walks in and everyone knows how great he really is. It's hard to explain..." The Duosion's voice trailed off, and then he shook his head and grinned. "Ah, but you don't wanna hear me, here's your sweets, dearie!"

Sounded like this Savior dude was quite the guy! 'Wonder if I'll be able to tell it's him if I ever see him?' she mused to herself. "Thanks a bunch! For the candy and the conversation," Kaveri replied with a small chuckle, waving to him as she left, candy bag in tow. She mulled over her conversation with the Duosion as she strolled along, frequently stuffing candy into her mouth as she went.

Kaveri wasn't really sure where she was going, so she just acted as if she was out on a pleasant stroll and restrained from looking about like some wide-eyed tourist. The pleasant stroll only lasted until she found a bar, though; here, she entered, and took a seat at a table in the corner she could semi-peaceably munch on her candy while observing the crowd. This peace lasted up until Kaveri had just about eaten every last sweet in the bag; then, someone started up a drunken song, and the rest of the bar joined in.

Kaveri was up in a flash, bounding from table to table (and even on the heads of some Pokemon), twirling the bag of candy about her head, raucously singing and giggling along, and overall acting more drunk than anyone else in the bar. The odd thing about this? She hadn't had a single drop of alcohol. Only candy. The 'mon who who were actually drunk started cheering her on, though there were a few enraged and startled shouts amongst the cheering as her paws are tail hit a some folks in the face.

Her exuberant dancing came to an abrupt halt when one of the tables gave in under her way and broke down the middle. The Floatzel sat there for a few moments, blinking about in bewilderment as she tried to comprehend why she was now sitting in a heap on the ground as hoots of laughter came from those around. Kaveri didn't spend long contemplating it, though, as a Gurdurr and a Grovyle hefted her up by her arms then slung their arms over her shoulders, giving her friendly prods that were a bit harder than they probably intended, drunk as they both were. Kaveri didn't mind though, as with these two jostling her between them, she rejoined the drunken singing that had started up again.

A bar full of drunk and one Floatzel high on sugar.

The Pit- Snype

Just as Snype was about to exit the bar, He noticed an interesting sight. A familiar Floatzel who seemed to be doing some form of drunken singing. Who would have thought they were so close to eachother? "Kaveri? Fancy running into you here! Its me Ad'en! Been awhile! I figured you weren't the kinda gal to get into these kinda moments if you know what I mean." Snype said. He was of course unaware that this was the result of a sugar high but judging from the scene going on, it was hard to tell. Perhaps Snype should have been more specific when he said "Cause some trouble".

He looked between the two Pokemon that were continuing their singing. Hopefully Kaveri was at least straight headed enough to roll along with Snype's fake identity.

"Kaveri? Fancy running into you here!" Kaveri's paused temporarily ceased there movement as she heard the familiar voice, the Floatzel twisting around to see who it was with a large grin. Its me Ad'en! Been awhile! I figured you weren't the kinda gal to get into these kinda moments if you know what I mean," "Aden" said.

"Well, if it isn't Addlen!" Kaveri's words poured out in a rush, spurred on by the energy rush brought on by the sugar and causing her to completely mispronounce the name. Well, she could work with that. Grabbing the arm of the Grovyle, she dragged him over to Snype and patted the Sableye on the head with her free paw. "This here's my mate, Aden! I call him Addlen though, cause he's always addlin' people brains," she chuckled. "Aden, this is... uh... a Grovyle! Cool guy, yeah." Introductions done, she grabbed the hands of both 'mon and forced them together in a handshake before dropping them both.

The Grovyle blinked at the Sableye blearily a few times before casting Kaveri a questioning look. "Mate, eh? As in, together?"

Kaveri wasn't really paying attention to him anymore - or anyone else, for that matter, even seeming to have already forgotten Snype was there - and she waved a paw dismissively at him. "Yeah, sure, that." The Grovyle nodded drunkenly, muttered something about leaving the two of them alone, then tottered away.

Still smiling stupidly, Kaveri munched on another piece of candy from the bag that still dangled from one of her paws, seeming to have suddenly forgotten that Snype was even there. Then she blinked and looked down at him, and proffered the bag to him. "Want some?" Before the Sableye could even think about taking any, though, she swung the bag away, giggling as if she'd just made the greatest joke ever. "Too bad, mine! So what's up, eh?"

Charlie and Obsidian: Fu**ing it all up, and they left the loot behind!

Obsidian deactivated his stone as he walked back in, opening his mouth but quickly closing it, "Uh... well not much out there." He said as he rubbed the back of his neck guiltily, "I tried talking and I guess they use a sort of different language here. I mean you can understand them but... eh, they name places differently than in Valkaria. I think it might be best if we go in groups just to watch each other's backs."

"So what yer tryin' ta say is ya got no tact? I thought ya were the one who knew where we were anyway." Charlie mocked Obsidian. "Maybe ya wanna go in groups, but some 'a us are better at stayin' unseen on our own, aside."

Obsidian squirmed a bit at the mock, "Look, I'm not good with words alright? I just... I guess I mostly stay back and just stay silent. Penance was the one who... sort of did everything."

"And ya good at that at least?" Charlie's eye narrowed, inquisitively. "'Cause if ya can't at least keep outta sight, you are gonna be havin' a hard time."

Obsidian gritted his teeth as his hands curled into fists, "I so CAN keep out of sight! I once went through an exercise where I stayed against a wall for four hours! None of the mon Penance sent in could see me cause I was so quiet and I got a good place to settle! I just... I'm not good with talking is all."

"Well, as long as ya got that little invisibility toy, I'm sure ya gonna be fine if yer skills match yer tales. Which is good, 'cause I got me an idea and I wanna get another pair 'a eyes on it every bit as fast as mine, 'cause if ya get seen ya gotta get outta there quick." Charlie responded, although he elected to wait on the Weavile's reply before he started his plan.

Obsidian nodded, "I can do that!" He said as his eyes lit up, "Yeah, I'm good with looking at details. So... uh... what did you exactly have in mind?"

Charlie raised a claw, pointing it straight at the palace that lay atop the hill. "Betcha anythin' that we can get info on anythin' goin' on in here in there. Feel like stakin' out a way in?"

Obsidian blinked and rubbed his arm nervously, "Uh... isn't that just a bit dangerous to do so early on? I mean, no offense I'm sure we could find ways in, but we just got here. Shouldn't we try and mark out a safe house or learn the layout of the city? Study some maps we could draw up?"

"Depends on one thing really. If ya get caught. Well, two. If ya get caught and if ya spill who yer workin' with. We ain't gonna be here long at all anyway - so we ain't really got the time ta do any 'a that stuff." Charlie folded his claws and nodded his head as he thought. "Aside that, we're here ta get what info we can for the guys who are allowed ta be here. All 'a that learnin' the place is fer if us Thieves come back after this is all done."

Obsidian nervously looked back at the building far away and gave a weak nod, "Right... okay, we can do that. I mean, it's going to be a small peek just to see how to get in is all. Nothing that serious and no talking for sure. Okay, I guess lead the way? I've never been up there myself so I'm unsure as to guards and anything else that could be up there."

"Heh, and yeh think I have? That's the point 'a stakin' it out. We'll get a better handle so when we come back later, we can pull it all off without a hitch." Charlie replied.

Obsidian nodded, "Alright. Well it shouldn't be that hard. I mean, it isn't like they think anyone is going to storm the palace right now, right?" He shrugged weakly, "So... you can lead the way and I'll follow."

"Heh. Yeh really need ta follow on ta somemon else don't ya? Don't ya worry. Unky Charlie's gonna keep ya safe." Charlie started walking in the direction he suspected would lead to the palace. "Follow on ta me an' don't talk ta anymon that don't ask ya somethin'. Ya seem ta wanna talk ta the locals, is all I'm thinkin' an' ya don't wanna be grabbin' their attention at all."

Obsidian sighed, "Well I saw Penance do it all the time, so I thought if I could do it then it might work a bit better. I mean, I'm not crazy like him. I know how to rationalize my thoughts but I figured it would go smooth as long as I made sense." He looked about, "I do remember Penance did speak of a shortcut to the palace sometimes. But I never got to see it. And it wasn't as if the king was glad to see him at all."

"Well, that's probably 'cause yer boss is nuts. I ain't too happy when I see the guy either." Charlie shrugged. As long as he could keep the Weavile talking they'd look a bit more natural. "Why are ya even followin' that nutcase anyway? No offense, I just can't see the guy
makin' a good call, ever."

"He can make good calls, I've seen them. It's just... it's a complicated relationship. He's... sort of my father, but not really." Obsidian gave a weak shrug, "He's crazy, but crazy in a good way. The kind where, once you get to know him, he's actually good company." Obisidan glanced at the various shops they passed, "So, are you following Snype then? I heard how he was a Sentinel and almost killed off all of Valkaria. I wouldn't put my faith in someone like that."

"Heh, ya hear these things, but if ya weren't around ta see 'em... If ya gotta know, I found out about that.... yesterday an' would ya know, Boss told me himself." Charlie smiled when he thought about it. "Ya think he'd 'a told me about it if he thought it'd be colourin' my thoughts on the guy? I mean, ya can throw yer lot in with the wrong guys if ya let yerself get pushed around by somemon else's claw an' if yeh remember, Thieves were invited ta Gold City 'cause they played their part in takin' down Darkrai. Since I heard about that... I only been lookin' better on Snype. Guy took a bad turn an' he got away from it."

Obsidian giggled, "Hehe, you have the wrong story friend. Penance told me that Snype killed off tons of thieves and basically the thieves had to hunker down while the Gold Tribe and Affiliates did all the work. Snype was there... but he was the only one, so a thief did something, but not the thieves themselves. You know Penance fired up this one attack and even let Guardia fire it off at Darkrai."

"Even if... that's history by now. Ya told me everythin' I already know, boss turned around, helped save the world an' all that cool stuff. 'Sides, you look at now an' we got a real tight operation runnin'. Well, ya wouldn't know really. But we got somethin' big." Charlie shrugged. "That somethin's a big part 'a me an' Boss is only makin' it better. Ya look at now, he's a pretty stand-up guy for a crook."

Obsidian shrugged, "I just know what Penance has told me. It takes a while to get used to what he says, but when you've lived with him for... uh... I guess more than twenty years now you get used to it." He sighed, "So, do you have folks back home?"

"Long story." Charlie said dismissively.

Obsidian frowned, "Uh... well I hope they're doing okay at least. Well... do you have brothers and sisters then?"

"Kinda." Charlie stuck to his short answers, hoping against hope that Obsidian wouldn't continue to press the question.

Obsidian thought for a moment, "So... you have trouble with family, probably don't talk to them that much... which is why you cling to your boss so much. He's a substitute family for you and that's why you joined the thieves, to get your mind off of your family and find some means to stay busy and try not to see them again. Right?"

"Heh. You a psychologist or some sh*t? Boss ain't no family to me. He's my boss. Maybe I'd even call the guy a friend an' the thieves are the guys that took me in when I had problems with the Tribe. Ya can try readin' in all ya want, but yer wrong." Charlie snapped back.

Obsidian stared at him, "You don't label him father, because that title is too hard for you to understand. You don't want to name him your father... cause your old father did something. You don't want to connect Snype to that..." He nodded a bit, "How words are used usually tells me a lot about a person, and since you had problems with the tribe... wait... Gold Tribe..." His eyes widened, "Did you do something that caused your family to give you up? If you had problems with the Gold Tribe... then you could have broken a law and if your father gave you up then that would no doubt be traumatizing, especially if you were very young when it happened."

"You're real smart. You guessed the Thief broke the law. Congrats." Charlie dully clapped the flats of his claws together, creating an alien form of the infamous sarcastic clap. "An' ya care ta tell me what's makin' ya so interested in my past now?"

Obsidian shrugged, "I... I guess I don't have much to talk about... and well, you still have a father who's alive in that case. My father died when I was young. I never got to know him that well and sometimes I wished I did. Everyone has a father but me."

"Well, if it helps ya, my father could be dead fer all I know. Livin' in Gold City'll do that for ya." Charlie responded.

"But... wouldn't you want to try and talk to him?" Obsidian asked, "I would pay my soul to the devil if I could talk to my dad one day... oh, we're here." The two had been talking for so long that Obsidian hadn't even realized that they were heading up the hill that led to the castle, "I guess we really shaved off time huh?"

"Good thing we did. Any more talk in this vein'd have drove me crazy." Charlie snorted. "So, you got an idea what we wanna look out fer?"

Obsidian nodded, "I would say first we stick to any shade. We need to check out two main things. First off, entrances. Anything from doors to windows to even other stuff like chimneys. Second we have to look out for guards and see what their patrol route is. How many guards are there? Where are they positioned? Are there specific times when a guard's shift ends or begins? That information could help us quite a bit."

"Good, you were startin' ta make me think ya were some kinda newbie. An' one favour, make sure we ain't gotta talk our way outta a problem would ya? Runnin's fine an' all." Charlie noted, only partially poking at Obsidian. "Ya didn't waste too much charge in yer stone did ya?"

Obsidian shrugged, "I have another. It's in my other pocket so no worries there." He gripped his stone in his other pocket, "No tress around, mostly rose bushes... we don't have any cover so let's stay close." Obsidian flicked his stone on as his body faded away and he began to creep forward as he kept an eye out for any patrolling guards, "Let's do this quickly." He whispered softly to Charlie.

"If there ain't no cover, we get in there and find some. These things ain't gonna last forever." Charlie added somewhat harshly, before he flicked on his own stone and moved on. He didn't intend on Obsidian getting spotted and blabbing who was in Tollen.

As Charlie moved forward Obsidian kept pace with him and whispered over, "We find a shadowed wall and get to it. Activate the stones in bursts so as to not waste the charge. See that shadowy corner off to the right? Get to it." Obsidian dashed off after that, keeping his eyes peeled but moving fast as the grass kept his footsteps silent. There were knights around, but Obsidian thought himself silent enough. If he could barely hear his own footsteps then he was doing well.

Heh. Maybe yeh ain't needin' ta be looked over so close. Charlie thought. Instinctively, as he stepped out, he hesitated - walking out right in front of the guys he was trying to hide from seemed like suicide. Could he really put all his faith in the stone? Too late to ask now, he had to run - not the most natural thing in the world for folk of his species, but Charlie's frequent need for silence led him to rely on his wings less - he was the best runner of any Scyther he knew and he didn't even make a sound.

Obsidian quickly placed his back against the wall as he slowed his breathing, not wanting to make any too loud noises. Now that he was up against the wall and in a dark area he wasn't sure if he could turn off his stone. They were still outside, and maybe if it was night he could turn it off safely, but there were so many gua-wait... was that Guardia? The Weavile had to narrow his eyes as he looked out across the courtyard at the escort moving across and... it was. He recognized that Croagunk too. He had been at the network point. Okay, so they had safely gotten through, that was good. "What now?" He whispered to Charlie as he saw the escort disappear past some buildings.

Charlie invisibly cringed. "Thought it'd be longer 'fore they were comin' in.." He stayed silent for a couple more seconds. "We gotta get somewhere we can get these turned off, then we can plot our next steps while we ain't wastin' the juice."

Obsidian nodded, "Yeah, I just gave the all clear to the psychics... I suppose they wanted to get in as quickly as possible." He whispered back, "Let's move along the wall. Check out behind corners and we'll find some doors. If we can find an open window that would be best if we ever have to enter. Lead the way."

"I'm callin' straight up." Charlie whispered back, referring to a window above them. "They only want security ta keep us out, once we're in it'll be lighter. Think ya can get yer claws in that an' climb it?"

Obsidian nodded, "That I can. Also, when in keep a lookout for any Garchomps or Charmeleons... our two seekers we have are those species. I'm not sure where they are, but if they somehow managed to get into the palace as staff then just keep an eye out. Not sure what aliases they'll be using but I can recognize them if I see them." Obsidian placed a hand onto a brick and jumped up a bit, letting the claws on his hands and feet dig into the substance, "Heading up." He whispered down as he moved up to that window.

Charlie split his attention, tracing Obsidian's claw marks in the wall, whilst constantly turning his head around to check the area for any close-by guards that could spot them as they appeared. As soon as they reached high enough to give the Scyther himself room to climb, he jammed his claw into the wall and got to it himself, without a word until he would get to the window, constantly checking over his shoulder for the guards' proximity.

A pair of guards, a Mightyena and a Growlithe seemed to be chatting below Obsidian and Charlie's current location. They were making their rounds around the palace, but seemed to be too involved in their conversation to look up and see the two mon making their way up the walls. "That's not the point, if he was good enough to get in, he would have gotten in," The Mightyena explained. The Growlithe growled angrily.

"Savior damn it, he's better than you, he should have gotten in!" He said angrily. "And did you hear that kid Popous got in?! What kinda crap is that?! It's ever since that damn Queen Ale-"

Before the Growlithe could say another word, the Mightyena approached up to the Growlithe, tackling him to the ground and placing a paw on his neck. "Don't ever insult our Queen, boy, or your next words will be your last. Understood?" He demanded. The Growlithe struggled to break from of the Mightyena's grasp, then barely managed out a nod. The Mightyena let him go, and the Growlithe coughed a few times and rose back to his feet.

"I know it's upsetting, but get over it. The savior knows best." The two continued their patrols, with the Growlithe looking down at his feet as he walked, defeat in his eyes.

Obsidian had started to sweat as he heard the two guards down below, but he didn't want to be caught at this point. He found himself moving far slower as he gently would dig his claws into the stone to prevent any loud scrapes from sounding out. He would pause as he ascended to peer down at the two canines. Thankfully the two walked off after a while and Obsidian began to ascend at his usual pace. He didn't care who this Popous was, but it seemed to be just gossip among the guards.

As he got to the window he carefully pulled himself and peered inside. No one was walking about thankfully so he pulled himself up and through the window, gently landing on his feet and he whispered over, "Coast is clear." He pulled away and gave a few more quick glances, this time seeing a guard heading down the hallway and no doubt about to enter another corridor. He pressed his back against the wall and clicked his stone to shut off. He had to save that energy while he could, though if that guard looked about to make a turn and head back this way that stone was turning on once more.

Charlie listened carefully to the guards' banter, picking out what he could to get investigating. Two things came to note: The guards were, for lack of any better term, f*cking vicious when it came to the Queen - but perhaps more importantly and less obviously was this 'Popous' - could he be some kind of enemy to this Queen they were so protective over? For now, Charlie pushed the thoughts to the back of his head, they weren't gonna help them get in for now. "Load 'a stuff changes now we know who's here." He didn't even bother with any kind of lead-in or pleasantry whilst time was of this essence. "If we got all the goldies here, we can't even get seen an' get away with it later 'cause we ain't one 'a them. But at the same time, they got all the focus 'a most 'a the guards. We probably got a lot more free rein than we would elsewise... Ya remember who they're meetin'? 'Cause it might be worth stickin' around ta see what they gotta say after all they think all the pryin' ears are gone..."

Obsidian shrugged, "I'm not sure who they are meeting, but I did see where they headed off to. Not sure of the exact building since they disappeared behind some of the other buildings there, but if we finish up quickly here we can head down and snoop around if you want. For now... let's see. There has to be a place where records are kept right? Stuff like stating where guards are sent, who goes in and out of the palace, stuff like that. If we can find out, at the least, when important meetings are held then we can arrange a time when we infiltrate and see if we can hear any good bits. What do you think?"

"Sure, just get movin'" Charlie replied. "We stick still fer too long an' we're sittin' Golduck." He took to his feet, keeping his eyes well peeled, both for the guard they'd seen a second earlier and anymon else that might take objection to their presence. "So yer aware that lookin' fer them kinda records, we gotta be goin' right where all them guards are gatherin'? I got 'nother plan too, look fer the biggest an' fanciest buildin' in this place, that's gonna be where the bigwig runnin' this show is livin'. Say they gotta diary or somethin', sayin' who they're talkin' to an' when?"

Obsidian blinked in surprise, "That... actually makes quite a lot of sense. She is a queen after all. Good thinking!" He said with a nod, "We head to the queen's chamber and see if she has diaries, maybe documents or other things. We'll have to be cautious of guards there of course, but if we get in we'll find a treasure trove of knowledge. Since you're experienced lead the way. I'll watch our backs."

Another knight began making his way across the corridor toward the direction of the two of them. He was being followed by another Pokemon, a Herdier, who wore an emerald cloak with an insignia of a Dragalge on his back. There were two more knights following behind him, a Blaziken and a Lopunny, both clad in emerald armor.

Obsidian's eyes went wide as he saw the two and quickly dashed to the side of the hall to hug the wall as his eyes glanced around for a door. There didn't seem to be one, so instead he gathered some strength in his legs and leaped up, quickly clinging to the wall as he used his arm strength to push himself up so he could hook on. He kept still as much as he could while taking soft breaths. Charlie took a very similar course of action, springing straight into the air on the power of his wings, hitting the ceiling hard enough to ram his head painfully into it despite his best efforts to stop, but with claws very firmly lodged in - swinging up his legs and digging those claws in as that he would no longer have to rely on his noisy wings to keep him suspended.

The three knights and the Herder passed by the corridor, turning to the far side. However, the Herdier stopped for one brief moment, causing the other knights to also pause. "Is everything alright, my lord?" The Blakizen knight asked the Herdier. The Herdier proceeded to sniff the air a few times.

The Blaziken asked again. "... Are you alright, sire?"

The Herdier sniffed once more, then his mouth curled up in a smile. "I'm famished. Take me to my house," He ordered. The other knights nodded their heads and proceeded forward again.

"At once, my lord." The group of knights proceeded with the Herdier down the corridor and out of sight. The coast was clear again for now.

Obsidian waited before he let go and dropped to the ground, "He knew.... he knew....." He murmured to himself as he shook a bit.

"Yeah, ya keep an eye on ya back, bet ya nothin' they're comin' back fer us." Charlie responded, before he unlatched his claws and hit the deck, rubbing his head. "Come on, haul ass, this place is hot." Once again, Charlie got started, seeking out something suitably grand for a queen.

Obsidian followed on as one hand went down into his pant's pocket to grip his stone in his hand. "We find what we need and get the hell out. We can do this."

As the two proceeded further, by fortune avoiding any further encounters for now, they came along to some very, very pretty doorways - one on the left, one on the right. They certainly seemed to be the kind of thing they were looking for, but there was another route in play - the corridor terminated in a staircase leading in both vertical directions. Charlie snorted. "Good ol' guessin' game. Seems fun ta me. Tell me, Frosty, think you can handle a look on yer own? I gotta plan." Charlie cast his mind back to the guards he'd seen before, out in the courtyard, the Growlithe in particular. He might need to have that image in his head for what he had planned.

Obsidian gave a weak nod, "Plan is this. I'll check these rooms. If I can't find anything I'll head upstairs. If I reach the top floor at any time I'll wait in some safe spot. I'll see what I can dig up and with my pack at the very least we can gather some stuff. Be safe Charlie." He gave a weak nod and approached the left door and began to ease it open slowly.

"Don't worry, any guards start lookin' a bit too close fer comfort, I'll be gettin' 'em off yer back. No way I'm lettin' ya talk ta any of 'em." Charlie gave Obsidian back a stronger nod as he stayed out of sight. waiting for his illusion to take effect, to become the Growlithe he'd noticed before.

As Obsidian would open the left door, he would notice a room filled with scrolls and books of some sort. The room seemed to be a study of some sort, with books across bookcases and the ground. There were a few in particular that were open on a finely crafted desk in the far end of the room, with a quill and ink nearby the open books.

Obsidian glanced in and then turned about to tap Charlie, "A treasure trove in there!" He whispered, "Books and scrolls, looks even recently! I'll grab some and put them in my pack. If anyone comes... er, let me know somehow. Loud talking or whatever." He gave another look inside to check even the ceiling to see if anyone was up there before he stepped in and rushed to the desk, peering over the documents quickly to make sure he wasn't picking up random fictional books.

"Don't take any of 'em with ya!" Charlie snapped back in a whisper, sticking his suddenly-canid head through the door. "Ya take 'em, they notice they're gone, just look!"

Obsidian blinked, "Oh... right..." He murmured more to himself as he quickly read.

Many of the books seemed to be historical records of some sort from way back, detailing battles of the past. The open book directly in front of Obsidian detailed the line of the Generals of the standing army. The last page detailed the names and tenures of the last four Generals.

Aurotek, William, 423-438 Age of Narron

Ellia, Janice, 438-460 Age of Narron

Saena, Isabella, 460-488 Age of Narron

Tyren, Marcus, 488- Age of Narron

"Well... the standing army..." He murmured. He glanced over the last two names once again before nodding and quickly heading back out, "Well we know who one of the generals are." He said to Charlie, "And he recently got into that position this year. Seems everything in Tollen changed within a year. I'm not going to check the other door. Let's head up stairs. Lead the way."

"Alright... keep outta sight, I might be comin' back down, with company. I'll howl ya if the coast is clear up there." With that, the Growlithe-Charlie turned to the stairs, running up them with the best panicked expression on his face he could manage - hearing footfall on the stairs above him. Time to put on a show. "Is there anyone there? I need help!" he yelled up the stairs.

As the footsteps came down Obsidian quickly got off of the stairs and rushed off to the library room as he opened the door as quietly as he could and slipped inside, closing it. There were many bookcases here thankfully so he hid deep near the back, keeping his voice quiet as he hid under a desk, pulling a chair in front of him as well.

The footstep grew louder as a Sceptile stormed down the stairs toward the sound of the yelling. "What's wrong?" He asked in a concerned manner.

"I think I saw a mon snooping around! Maybe that-" Charlie quickly thought up the name he'd heard before. "-Popous kid again! If he's around I think he got away from me!"

The Sceptile cocked an eyebrow. "Popous? Isn't that the kid that didn't make it into the Royal Knights? What the hell is he doing here?"

That was bad. The wrong form of 'getting in'. Charlie had to think fast, but he'd already hesitated in his answer "I-I don't know! Just - I swear I saw him and we don't want anymon with a grudge running around here!" He replied, intentionally allowing his voice to go very meek.

"Well, damn it, lead the way!" The Sceptile ordered. "I don't want the Royal Commander finding out about this!"

The body-fake Growlithe eyes lit up. "I'm not sure where he got to, but I'll show you - I think I saw him down the bottom of the stairs down here! I thought he went up, but I only saw you so he can't have gone that way and that leaves lots of other ways he could have gone, in here, in here, down the stairs, down the corridor... there's too many ways for me to look on my own!" Charlie's eyes darted around, checking for Obsidian as they came back to the bottom of the stairs. "I-I'll check in here!" he shouted, diving into the library - catching a quick glimpse of Obsidian and swearing under his breath.

Obsidian in turn gave a weak shrug as he put a claw to his lips.

"Damn it, I'll check the bottom stairs!" The Sceptile stated. "This isn't good, Durania was just here, and now I hear Ellia's sending someone too! If they see this sh*t, we're... you're screwed!" The Sceptile disappeared down the stairs.

Charlie let out a small, worried yelp, concealing the smile on his face behind his turned back. "I-I'll find him! Y-you can count on me..." He waited on the last bit of the sentence until he was almost certain the Sceptile was mostly out of earshot. "S-Sir! Sir!", at the same while, turning to Obsidian with a massive grin strewn across his face. "Coast's clear." He whispered, as he slowly faded back into his buggy self.

The Weavile sighed and got out from underneath and stretched his back, "That was close!" He gasped, "Think we should push our luck? I mean that guard came down... but you know... if he's running around he might recruit other guards to help. If they check this area and the ones down below... then that could keep them occupied!"

"Get goin' then. I'll be up right behind you." After his first taste of the illusion, he had already staked his preference in hiding the old-fashioned way, in the tried-and-true form of staying out of sight. "Just gimme a sec when I get up there. That thing is knackering."

Obsidian nodded, "That's what I've heard about it. It saps you until you fall unconscious. Be careful with it." He peeked out of the door and seeing the coast was clear he quickly made his way to the stairs, pausing a bit and began to slowly head on up, this time quickly turning on his shadow stone as he ran up to the next floor and quickly glanced about as Charlie slowly followed him up, keeping his eyes turned backwards in case they'd been followed.

The stairs led up to another room, but also continued on further up. The next room seemed to be at the edge of a large hallway of some sort, where there was much more open areas save for a few columns. At the end of the large room, one door was visible, along with two knights who were guarding it intently. It was also viable to continue up further along the staircase.

Obsidian quickly hid behind a column as he deactivated his stone and looked over at Charlie with a questioning look. What were they to do now? Try to head into the room or run up the stairs? If that room was the royal bedroom however...

Charlie had taken his own cover behind a column opposite the Weavile, not taking more than the occasional peek - but over such clear ground, getting the guards out of the way could be... difficult to say the least. He whispered across the corridor to Obsidian. "Ya think... ya think ya can take out one 'a these guys without makin' a sound? Or killin' 'em? If we can get 'em both at once, leave this kid ta take the blame fer takin' them out..." Since Charlie had already put some vengeant kid in the knights' mind, he was certain that he'd take the rap if they did have to take the guards down. Aside, they didn't seem too keen to let problems go to their boss... Charlie wouldn't tell if they wouldn't...

Obsidian nodded as he reached into his pack and pulled out his strings, slipping them into his pocket and slipped his pack back on. He held up his unused shadow stone and pointed at Charlie, before nodding to the guards, "I take right, you take left." He whispered as he activated his and began to steadily make his way toward them.

"I'll take 'em off their balance first." Charlie burst from his pillar, flying into the air right in front of the two knights - he'd done this before, the sheer audacity of this kind of attack was usually all the surprise value necessary - especially when coupled with the weaponized offbeat of his wings - he arose whipping up a sure storm!

Obsidian himself sprang forth, the wind helping him as he clung to one guard and without hesitation wrapped his string around his neck, pulling one the ends as any cries for help would never sound. For the other guard all he would see was his friend flailing about with something invisible taking a toll on him. Charlie, meanwhile, dived forward, leading into a quick strike at the Abomasnow still standing with the blunt edge of his claw aimed squarely at his target's neck. Using the speed and weight of his flying charge, the quick attack carried some significant power behind it - Charlie aiming to force the Abomasnow against the wall next to that ever-so fancy door - the blunt edge of his claw forced into the Abomasnow's neck until he stopped struggling.

At that same time Obsidian tightened his grip around the Hitmonchan's neck until finally the fighter fell. He pulled his string away as the fighter's lungs began to work once more, "Right, we have about oh... an hour or so before he wakes up." He looked at the door, "After you." He said as he deactivated his shadow stone.

Through the door appeared to be another hallway. This time, the room was lined with various paintings of other Pokemon. The mon appeared to be quite regal, dressed in the clothing of nobility, perhaps even more than that. The hallway continued forward to a door on either side, as well as one directly in front of them.

Upon seeing the coast was clear Obsidian was quick to drag the two unconscious guards inside as he closed the door behind them. "Alright, we do this quick." He told Charlie, "We only have about... an hour max before they wake up. If they are well trained... then about twenty minutes. Depends, but still choose a side quickly. I have a feeling we'll get some good things here."

"Gee, thanks for the tips. Ain't like I didn't know we gotta be quick..." Charlie said indignantly, peering against the door on the left and opening it just a crack to peek through, slowly and carefully enough not to alert anymon on the inside. The room was empty, save for a rather fancy-looking bed and a few clothes and books. The room was also filled with many fine silks and jewelry.

"So, what's in there?" Obsidian whispered. "Please don't tell me more guards."

"Looks like the room 'a somemon fancy. No poor bugger needin' ta be hurt in here though." Charlie pondered for a brief second. "Let's go have a look the other side. We ain't got forever so we gotta pick the fanciest one." The Scyther repeated the same process on the other side, checking for anything threatening as much as clues for where they should prioritise looking.

The other room was much the same. Fine silks and jewelry was across it, as well as a grand bedroom and a wardrobe. The only difference was that there was also a Mr. Mime standing right in the middle of the room, staring silently at the crack at the doorway. "Yes, who is it?" The Mr. Mime asked as the doorway creaked open a tad. The mon had a very pompous and posh voice. "Frederick is that you?"

Obsidian paled, "W-Who is it Charlie?" He whispered softly, "We need to take him out too. Uh... you go in first?" He managed to peer around Charlie's body and his eyes widened, "Let me handle this one. He can't do sh*t against me." The Weavile readied another string as he took in a deep breath and wasted no time. The mon already knew they were here, so it was going to have to be quick work to silence him. Obsidian pushed open the doorway and ran straight in, jumping up high and intending to come down upon the mon proper, or at least behind him.

"I say, what is it you're doing? Wha-" At that moment Obsidian managed to land behind him as he wrapped his strings around the throat... but he wasn't pulling yet. "Alright, you can either cooperate and answer some questions of ours, or I'll tighten this and you might not wake up. Which is it going to be?" He asked.

"Unhand me! Guards! Guards!" He began to try to yell. Obsidian just smirked and gave just a bit of pressure against the throat, "They aren't waking up anytime soon." He stated, the threat outlining his voice quite clearly, "Now, we have some questions and you have to answer. ASAP."

"G-ahwah! Guards!" The Mr. Mime tried to yell again. "Protect the- gawh!"

Obsidian let the string pull back juuuust a bit, "What are you trying to protect? Better question, where's the good loot around here?"

Charlie gave a hard, disapproving glare at Obsidian. The Weavile had acted before Charlie could do anything to stop him - by the time he could, Obsidian had been seen and their hand had become forced. Worse still, he was playing up the Thieves' involvement - Snype would certainly have one to tear out of Charlie if he head about that. He had to get this finished as quickly as possible, the sooner this mon was out, the less chance he'd remember things like faces and every dumb word that came out of that Weavile's mouth - in fact, he thought he'd make the process little more surefire - as much as he hated the cruelty of holding the mon like this, a swift slap across the face would both loosen the Mr. Mime's lips and haze his memory all in one.

From behind the two, the last door at the end creaked open. A soft voice was heard. "Rupert? Rupert are you alright? I thought I heard something," The voice said, as footsteps could be seen coming toward the room. The voice suddenly gasped out loud. "Oh no!" She exclaimed, noticing the unconscious guards. "Elewyn! Elewyn! Help us!"

Bursting from the door at the end was a female Ampharos clad in green armor. "What is it, my Queen?! What's wro- Oh no," The Ampharos noticed the two knocked out guards.

F*ck! This is gettin' way outta hand now! Charlie swung his claw around, giving the Mr. Mime an even heftier hit around the face, before he turned to Obsidian and hissed at him under his breath "Get that stone on and get hidden! This job's a scrub now, we get outta here an' don't get yer sorry ass found!" The Scyther quickly heeded his own advice, flicking on the invisibility device, praying to Arceus it had enough charge to pull him out of the Ariados web he was now in.

Obsidian gripped his stone and turned it on, disappearing quickly.

A few other footprints could be heard, and the door swung open on both side. The Ampharos and two other knights walked in, while two others observed the other room. "Someone got to Rupert as well," The Ampharos said. She turned to the door, looking at a relatively young Floette dressed in a beautiful emerald gown, with embroideries and jewels decorating the entire dress. She also had a large, flowing robe over the gown, with decorations of the traditional colors of Tollen. "My Queen, I must insist you be taken to a secure location."

"Rupert! Is he OK?" She asked from the doorway. The Ampharos moved her forward and gently urged her out of the room.

"He'll be fine, your Highness. Please, leave this matter to me," She asked the Floette, who took one more look at the Mr. Mime, then obliged. As she left, the two other Knights with the Ampharos scoured the room in search of any possible assailants.

"What do you think this was, Deputy Commander?" One of the Knights, a Skarmory, asked.

"I'm not certain," The Ampharos replied, searching the room once more.

"It could have been the Brotherhood. It wouldn't have been the first time they've tried something as brazen as this," The other Knight, and Azumarill with an eyepatch suggested.

"Possibly but... I don't see anything missing. They're known to sometimes not take the most obvious of items but in this case... well it's too soon to tell one way or another. We'll get to the bottom of this."

The group of Knights began making their way out of the room and the area.

"Too close... too f*cking close..." Charlie muttered. "We've gotta scram, an' now! Window, over there, you're gonna climb, I'm gonna jump an' we're haulin' ass back into the city." He shook his head as he picked up speed for a running dive, bursting out of the gap in the wall and plummeting to the ground - only at the last second slowing just enough that he wouldn't be injured.

After he landed, Charlie enveloped himself in his own thoughts as he waited for Obsidian. Boss is gonna have my head on a damn platter fer this... an' we didn't even pick up info worth the trouble 'a breakin' in... They were going to have to go back with almost-empty claws.

Penance, Callimer, Abel, and Raz - Fort Trantrea, Forests of Tollen

Penance slowly took in deep breaths. In and out. He knew he wasn't going to be close to full power by the time they came... but it was all he could do for now. All around, the Hellguards were doing whatever they could to prepare for the incoming invasion. They were setting up barricades, bolstering defenses, quickly healing injured soldiers, and putting out any fires or damage. Outside the walls along the hill, hellguards were setting up different traps with elemental abilities, as well as digging holes and ditches and quickly covering them up with softer, thinner dirt. As he hummed to himself he caught a speck of green out of the corner of his eyes, "Dragonfly, why are you dancing about?" He shouted out, "Surely such conflict from spiders has been seen before. Also anyone have any vitamins? Need a boost right now."

"Penance!" Cal exclaimed at the sight of the duck. He made his way over to him and hoped he could appeal to Penance well enough for some sort of explanation. "Penance, I see you're back at the reins again, I need a briefing on your discussions with the recruits. And if you can't say it straight then get me Brynn."

Razathiel waddled up to the two with a devilish smirk on his face. More fighting had him in a good (evil) mood. The mage held up a berry in one hand - the same one from when they'd arrived - and poked the Golduck with it. What Raz had done with the berry in the meantime wasn't immediately obvious. "Vitamins, berries have vitamins. Eat the bloody berry."

Penance glanced over and took the berry in his hand. He stared hard at Raz, and then plopped it into his mouth, slowly chewing on it, "If this gives me gas I'll stick ya in the room." He said in a matter of fact tone.

Razathiel almost asked what 'the room' was, then immediately thought better of it. "If it does, blame Brynn. Wouldn't eat it earlier."

Penance silently stared at Raz, then he looked up at Cal. He let out a sigh and rose up, walking to the railing as he leaned over it, "It's funny..." He said slowly. "I never considered disease. ... The reason they shut us out of Tollen... was because a disease overcame the people. Started making them... crazy. Did it to protect us." He chuckled a bit and looked back at Cal, "Sounds a bit like another country with a couple of Combees in it, doesn't it?"

"... You mean like the one in Beatruce?" Abel asked the Golduck, approaching the group from behind Callimer. "I wonder, is it a coincidence, or is it the same one?"

The Dragonite's eyes widened at the revelation. "So then this isn't just some sort of one-off thing, not the least bit coincidental... Well I guess at least that means we might get some information over here that will help out Beatruce as well, I hope the other teams don't get sick."

Penance interrupted with a chuckle, "Sick? Oh no longer." He said, "It happened for a bit, and then went away. Poof. Guess what? MY ****ING SEEKERS HAVE BEEN SENT OUT IN DROVES!" He snapped suddenly, rage quickly flooding his face as a table nearby suddenly rose up with a blue glow, "KILLED CAUSE THEY KNEW!" He gripped his forehead and screamed out as the wooden furniture shattered and he fell to his knees, "Always disease... always disease. So stupid." He murmured to himself.

Abel brought his eyes to Penance and glared at him. "Quit your whining. What we have to decide now is where we'll help out," Abel stated. "Should we stay here and help defend or go to the village with the noble?"

"This isn't exactly a decision I should make myself, so I'd like to hear what the rest of you have to think. I doubt we can afford to split up when we're already such a small team, so we need to be sure of our decision." Cal interjected, not really sure of his own decision yet.

"Well, good luck with that." Razathiel scoffed. "Pretty sure you're all aware of how little I care."

"We don't know anything about whoever this noble is," Abel said. "But if he's the first mon from the capital in a long time, then maybe it's worth checking out. Conversely, helping the Commander here is more concrete. And if we help him now, then maybe later he can help us. It's what I would do. But as much as it's nice to hear what we have to say about it, final choice should be yours, Sentinel. I'll go with what you say."

Penance slowly rose, "I have Seekers here." He said slowly, "Plus they have info on what happened in the city. The nobles there have been trying to cover it up all this time, how can we be sure he'll tell us anything?" The Golduck asked, "I'm gong to sit, and meditate, and then I want to head out and help. That is my opinion."

"I fancy a snack." Raz noted.

"Every once in a while a decision needs Occam's Razor, we're right here, right now. If we head over to that village things may go south before we even make it, and we'll have gotten nothing, and we have no reason to believe we can trust any of Tollen's nobles anyways unless maybe it was the queen herself. If we help fight off this assault we're guaranteed to save lives, lives that we know for sure hold value, and then we can always try to find the noble afterwards on the off chance they survive. We're going to fight off this assault!" Cal's face set in grim determination alongside his impromptu speech, there was no easy road, but he felt prepared.

"Sounds great. I'm going to get a snack." Raz chirped, conjuring a portal to his Magic Room.

Penance smiled weakly, "Thank you. Sincerely Cal, thank you." He went back to his chair and sat down on it as he closed his eyes, "I'm still drained, but I'm going to meditate. Hopefully I can get a bit of power back, enough to make a difference." He opened his eyes and looked at Cal, "If I fall, there is a Seeker among them, a female Gothorita. Her name is Andrea and she gave me that information. She had more to say before she had to head out. As I said, if the worst happens, find her. She can fill you in more no doubt."

Abel nodded at Cal's decision. "I'll go notify the Commander. We'll get this place as defended as it can possibly be before the attack," He stated, before heading to the side of the fortress to look for Darrell. Meanwhile, Lieutenant Trace, who had overheard the group talking, walked up behind them and interjected into the conversation.

"Heard you guys are stayin' to lend a hand," He said with a nod. "You got my thanks. We won't forget this."

"Drained, Penance?" Raz questioned. "Hmph. Well, I was just getting myself a leppa or two. If you want one, then f*ck you, but I guess I can allow it." The miniature mage seemed to grab a hold of something through his portal with a satisfied smirk.

Penance shrugged, "If you wish to bring cake, then bring cake." He said simply. "Every small thing helps. That's the beauty of it."

"Cake? F*ck! Now I want cake! Thoughtless bastard." The Ralts chucked a leppa in the Golduck's direction, then closed his Magic Room and chewed on his own berry grumpily.

Commander Darrell walked out from inside the keep with Abel beside them. The Commander began shouting orders to the various Hellguards around the area. "Lieutenant Vintus, get the Rock Teams outside the wall to gather up as much rock and sandstone material as possible for the catapults," He ordered to a Rhydon beside him. "How many Rock types do we have left?"

"About six dozen or so, sir," Lieutenant Vintus, a Rhydon, responded.

"Get them all on the outside gathering up what they can. Have them dig through and bury water along the holes they dug the rocks out of, so that the Morrians get slowed down going uphill. Have grass types block the paths up by extending the trees in the area, if possible," He continued storming down the fortress, barking orders at various Hellguards. He pointed to various points along the fortress. "I want fire teams on this end, electric and water teams on the right end, and poison and ice team on the other end. Do we have any Morrian bodies on the outside?"

"Water's washed a lot of them up, but we can see a few dozen out there still," Lieutenant Trace answered.

Commander Darrell nodded. "Good. Cut off the heads and spike them along the path. We're going to throw so much sh*t at them physically and psychologically that by the time they touch Trantrea, they'll wish they never came to our country!"

Lieutenant Trace grinned widely and nodded. "You heard the Commander! Shape up, Hellguards, and get to work! Time to show 'em why we earned our names!"

Penance suddenly paused and glanced over at the Commander, a smile forming, "Sir.. quick question. How many psychic troops do you have?"

Commander Darrell looked down at the Golduck. He gestured to the hellguards. "Look around, there's quite a bit. Why?"

His smile grew, "Oh... this will be quite... delightful."

House Arrest
|The Diplomat team.|

Joshua shrugged, his expression finally returning to normalcy now that their appeal was done with. He sighed once again in relief, lightly wiping his brow. "Unfortunately, it doesn't look like we'll be finding that out today, or anything else, for that matter. We should probably make ourselves comfortable here, since we're essentially under house arrest, it seems."

"And how lucky are we to be trapped in such a beautiful place!" Annabelle chimed in, still enchanted by the masterful architecture. A regretful sigh came shortly after. "It's a shame we can't take a moment to tour while we wait. Maybe this way we can make plans for tomorrow, hm?"

"Well," Guardia began, looking around at the other knights who were guiding them to their chambers. She leaned in closer to the group and whispered. "Maybe we still can. I mean, while the lord is out doing... whatever, if you guys want, we can try sneaking out of our room and look around, see what we find. It'll be risky, especially if we're caught, but we might find something really useful too."

The group arrived into a fairly large room wrapped in emerald and beige linens and similar tapestries and designs as in the large hallway. There were also four separate beds there, with the symbol of House Ellia embedded on the sheets. The royal knights left to the outside, but she heard small murmuring from the outside of their room, leading her to believe that they might have stationed one or two knights just outside their doorway. "What do you think?" She asked the others.

"Absolutely not," Joshua stated once they were alone in their room. "We will not so quickly dash the minuscule amount of trust that we have so graciously been given." The Swadloon paced nervously back and forth around the room. "So many things could go wrong. What if we were caught? What then? Oh, they'll have our heads for that! Probably locked up in some dungeon for all eternity. We'll be doomed for sure!"

The Swadloon's tone grew more frantic, listing off a nearly infinite list of all the risks involved, the trouble they'd get into, the jeopardy they'd place themselves in. "We could get put on trial, tarnish the reputation of the Gold Tribe forever! They'd never speak to us again! Tollen would probably seclude themselves forever, and... and... and-"

"Okay, okay, it was just a suggestion, Watchman!" Guardia interjected. "You don't wanna do it, so we won't do it," She said reassuringly, as she walked up to him and placed a paw on his shoulder. "I guess you're right, the risks would be pretty steep. So, what should we do now?"

Joshua stopped mid-sentence, taking in a deep breath and exhaling. He closed his eyes, mentally calming himself for a brief moment. He opened his eyes again, looking at Guardia. "Sorry, sorry... I, uh... anyways!" He looked around at his companions. "For the time being, I don't think that is a wise option. Besides..." he glanced back and forth, lowering his tone considerably. "Don't we have a second, er... 'group' to do the reconnaissance?"

"That's right, we do," Thomas answered. "Perhaps it is best if we lead matters of this... nature to them. It could severely hurt us if we were discovered doing this."

Guardia nodded. "Yeah, yeah I know. I was just thinking that we might not get as good a chance as this to find something out even before the others do. I mean, what's the likelihood they'll make it to this manor anytime soon?" She put her hands up to reassure the others. "But you don't want to so we won't do it. No big deal. I guess we should figure out what to say in front of all the leadership instead. Do you know what you're going to say?" She asked Joshua and Anna.

"You mean, assuming we actually are allowed to say anything? Marrow did mention that they might not let us speak at all." He shrugged, adjusting his new Tollenian coat. "I guess it would all depend on what they say first. Though I can't imagine what we would say that would be any different from what we've said here."

"Might as well go in with the assumption that we will be. And if we are, then I suppose going with what we said before is our best bet," Thomas said with a nod. "It was quite well put, if I do say so myself. I think it was quite wise to bring the two of you along," He said, referring to Joshua and Anna.

"Thank you, Thomas," Anna replied with a smile and a slight bow. "As for what we should say I think we decided that before we came here. We want as much help as we can when it comes to Darkrai, but our main goal is Cresselia. If we can't convince the lords to help us, then we can try to convince them to help themselves. Darkrai's presence is a matter that affects all of us and I hope his return will help us, ironic as that is. Even if that still falls through we try our best to get as much information on Cresselia as possible and--though it might sound bad to say this after your objection, Joshua--go out and get information about Cresselia ourselves. Guardia's suggestion about looking around is risky now, but if we're completely rejected? As long as we can get our information back to everyone else, I don't believe those risks are great enough to combat what would happen if we didn't find Cresselia."

Joshua nodded at Anna's response. "If all else fails, then we should definitely go out ourselves and seek our own info. But for the time being, I say we remain within the good graces of our hosts. If our request is denied, then it might be our only option to pursue... less-than-legitimate channels."

"I think we can all agree with this," Thomas replied with a nod. "We will pursue other means only if this one fails us. But on the subject of Darkrai..." Thomas pondered for a moment, placing a hand upon his chin. "How do you believe we should pursue this? I will be honest with you: the last few times I was here, I wasn't under the impression that any of the nobility believed in such things, as I'm sure Guardia can attest to."

Guardia nodded. "That's right. The only ones that did were King Sofon, General Isabella of the Standing Army, and the Royal Commander Janos. The nobility all denied it pretty harshly. I doubt they would have heard what we had to say before it was weren't for the King."

"Yes, exactly," Thomas continued. "Which is why I am wondering if we should tone down that bit of our explanation to the lords. It would obviously be detrimental to us in our search for Cresselia. But maybe they would be more willing to lend us aid in the form of troops. What do you think?"

"I'm not sure, honestly," Joshua replied, uncertainty in his voice. "Lord whats-his-face seemed incredibly hesitant to lend troops to foreigners like us. I think, should we be granted an audience, we should focus on Cresselia first and foremost." He grimaced a bit as he thought of the situation in Valkaria. "As much as I would like to help our city, unless we have a more compelling case, Tollen is very unlikely to aid us, troop wise. In my opinion, we should only ask for aid if our initial case is accepted."

"I suppose that much is true," Thomas concurred with a nod. "With no formal alliance, the best we might be able to get out of them is perhaps information or a location. Perhaps even rumors might be useful at this point. Anything that would help shine some light on this Cresselia business. Very well. Is there anything else we need to discuss? Are we prepared for tomorrow's meeting?"

"Our plan seems to be in order," Annabelle answered. "My only other concern is the state of Tollen's Network Point. Those Psychics are exhausted. It may not be in our best interest to bring up the issue now, but if we have a chance of prolonged communication with Tollen or simply a chance of any aide, those Psychics might not be able to do the job. I'm surprised they were even able to transport us here and I'm worried how effectively they'll be able to take us back."

Joshua was keen on calling it a night, but Anna's statement caused him to pause. "Hold on... my goodness! I almost forgot!" He suddenly grew a bit panicked, though manage to keep himself rational. "Did anybody else catch sight of that Meowstic when we arrived?"

"Hmm? Meowstic?" Guardia questioned with a tilt of her head. "You mean one of the Psychics at the Network?"

"When we arrived," Joshua began, trying to recall the situation. "One of the psychics, a Meowstic, pulled me aside for only a moment. Said something about being held hostage, and finding her brother..." He turned towards the others worriedly. "Was I the only one who heard that?"

Guardia and Thomas exchanged glanced. Guardia shrugged. "I didn't hear it, but if that's true, it's something to look into."

Thomas nodded in agreement. "I found it strange that Tollen decided to keep our Psychics and SEC Psychics for the Network instead of using their own. Perhaps a bargaining chip was the reason why. I did notice there were less of them than normal at the Network point too. It's a sticky situation to bring that up here, though. Perhaps we can try to relay that to the thief team, and see if they can find out?"

Anna nodded in agreement. "That sounds like the best course of action. If what Joshua heard is the case, then I think it will be beneficial for all of us if we put some energy in that direction. I think Thomas might be onto something. If Tollen has to use our Psychics--and as hostages no less!--" the thought of the trapped Psychics almost made Anna shudder. How much stronger they were than her!--"then they could be hiding something. Regarding Cresselia? I don't know, but it's something."

"We should pass it along the first chance we get," Thomas declared, putting a hand to his chin. He paced around a few steps. "Though doing so while we are under lockdown like this might be a bit difficult."

Joshua stood silently for a moment, when he remembered the gift the Sylvio had given him. "It might not be as difficult as you think." He reached into his coat pocket, producing the mirror shard gifted to him earlier. "Sylvio is with the thieves team, right? I can use this to contact him, and we can get a message through that way." He studied the shard in his hands for a moment, a small trace of uncertainty in his expression as he squinted his eyes slightly. "I'm not sure the exact mechanics of this, and I don't know if it's detectable or not. It might be wise to use it as little as possible, if that is the case, but we can still send a quick message to our... associates."

"Fascinating," Thomas awed as he examined the mirror shard. "Some sort of psychic device?"

"Where d'ya think Sylvio got it?" Guardia asked thoughtfully.

"He seems a traveled mon," Thomas stated. "Perhaps on one of his many travels. Well, if it works well enough within the parameters of the Network, then send something, I suppose."

|The Thief Team|

Well at least she rolled along with it. Somewhat. Snype's face went a little red at the mention of them being mates. Still dedicated to that prank even during a mission. Judging from the candy, Kaveri was probably on a serious sugar high. That at least confirmed that Tollen uses the same currency as Valkaria which was rather odd. But that was beside the point. He had to explain what was going down. The Sableye leaned closer to Kaveri and started to whisper.

"So I've run into an interesting group of Pokemon who might have the information we need. We just gotta help them with a small job. I'd feel safer having some expertise on my side if ya wanna help." Snype said.

"Well, we'd better get going to somewhere we can have some alone time then, eh?" What context those words were said in was lost even on Kaveri as she picked Snype up and set him on her shoulders. With a yodel, she charged through the bar and out the door, skidding to sudden a stop outside as she realized she had absolutely no clue where she was going.

Snype sat down on Kaveri's shoulder and ended up outside of the bar, making sure she didn't wander off... which she was doing a pretty good job at doing already. "Heheh, outside doesn't seem much better for a private spot eh? You doing alright there? Ya seem a bit loopy." Snype asked.

"Berry Loops are pretty loopy too," Kaveri said, sticking a paw in her bag of candy and sifting about, then frowning. "Hmm... Seems I don't have anymore of those though..."

Snype tilted his head looking at the bag of candy. "An hour in and already getting souvenirs. Doesn't look like a whole lot of candy is left... er... how much candy did you get anyways...?" He asked with concern.

"Enough to fill the bag," Kaveri answered, shaking the near-empty bag about, then sighing. "I know, not much at all, right? But I had to save at least some money!"

"Y...you ate that much candy? Oh boy... hope you can still focus in your little sugar high cuz we have ourselves a job coming up. Might lead us right to what we're lookin for if we succeed." Snype leaned closer to Kaveri's "ear" and whispered again. "A couple of royal guards are bringing in a shipment of all sortsa pricy stuff. All we gotta do is hijack it and give it to some of the more deserving folk according to our client. Oughta be easy enough right?" Snype said.

Kaveri nodded and grinned cheerfully. "Easy as throwing a ball to the moon!"

Snype laughed a bit nervously at that comment. That wasn't exactly an easy thing to do... at least, for a floatzel. But again, sugar high. Snype gave Kaveri a couple pats on the head. "Keheh, well you're confident at least! It's gonna be your first job as a thief! You'll fit right in with our line of work! Speaking of which, find out anything interesting while out in town? I've been hearing a couple things about a "savior". And the different types of classes in Tollen. apparently I'm a brownborn due to my outfit." Snype said, still whispering the information.

"Actually, here lets head inside. I got a room in the bar earlier thanks to saving the owner's butt earlier. We can chat in there." Snype said, pointing the direction to the room he had been hanging out in previously.

Kaveri instantly perked up. "Really? Well why didn't ya say earlier!" She carried him back inside, where she paused and glanced about as she cleared her throat. "YO, WHERE'S THIS GUY'S ROOM?" she called over the bustle to anyone who was actually listening.

The crowd just seemed to stare at her awkwardly. Some gave off a couple chuckles as well. "Uh... Kav, I can just show you where it is." Snype whispered. "Don't worry about her! Just a little loopy! Hehe," Snype shouted back to the crowd, blushing a bit in embarrassment. Snype pointed Kaveri toward the direction of Snype's room.

"Oh. Right." Kaveri blinked down at Snype, then strolled casually off in the direction he had pointed.

As soon as they arrived, Snype hopped off of Kaveri and closed the door, making sure nobody else happened to be sticking around the room for whatever reason, even checking the closets and bathrooms just to be safe. "Alright. We oughta be good now. Keheheh... ohhh man! It's been so hard to hold that laugh back." Snype said, sighing in relief. "So, whatcha find out?"

Kaveri was sifting about in the candy bag again, only to pull her paw out with a frown as she found that was nothing left in the bag. "I heard about that Savior dude from the candy guy. He's apparently a pretty swell guy! Maybe he'd even wanna be friends...," she mused, then shook her head as she attempted to focus her attention on the matter at hand. "He's apparently from around some place called the Oddish Trail. Wherever that is; I think it might be somewhere close to where I was...." She trailed off, recalling the rest of her conversation with the Duosion. "Oh! Something big happened recently. Well, I mean, that's kinda obvious since Tollen had to have closed its borders for some reason. But it sounds like a lotta 'mon died cause of whatever happened, and the Savior saved them from it. Guess that's why he's called the Savior," she giggled.

Snype chuckled and hopped onto the bed, laying back. "Keheh, well that means I was wrong about the Savior's identity. I always figured he was some kinda religious figure, not an actual Pokemon. Hopefully we run into this fellow or at least figure out what species it is. Could be a legendary Pokemon for all we know if it had that kind of power." Snype said, scratching his chin a bit. "As for me, there's a bit of a civil war going on in the lower districts. The folks down here really don't like the royal guards from the higher class parts of town and I had to scare one off before it killed some kid. After that I became a bit of a hero in these parts. Kehe. With all of the rewards included!" Snype said with a mischievous smirk.

"Oh yeah, I've also been thinking about looking into this group called the brotherhood. I've been hearing whispers about em all over the bar. They just might be the underground organization I need to make contact with. I have a feeling this job is related to them and might be a test to earn their trust."

The more Kaveri thought about this the more hilarious she seemed to find it, until she broke out laughing, falling to her knees and pounding the bed with a fist. "I just keep going from one faction to another, eh? Gold Tribe, part-time Thief, now this Brotherhood thing...!" With that, she didn't seem capable of talking anymore as she continued laughing. Ok, so maybe it wasn't that funny, but she had had just a bit too much sugar.

Snype blinked at Kaveri's reaction, wondering what got her so giggly. He had now just noticed that her candy bag was empty! It had a bit of candy a few seconds ago! "I can't believe you ate that whole bag... Speak to me, Kav!" Snype said, holding her shoulder to try and get her focused.

"No, I will not!" she declared resolutely, crossing her arms. "...Oh, wait, I just did. Oh well."

Snype shook his head and poked Kaveri's nose. "You silly Floatzel. Hope you don't crash during the mission. Ya might do better while you're hyper like this. Haha. " Snype said, joining in the laughter. Suddenly there was a knock on the door which cause Snype to literally jump in surprise. A Pikachu peeked in the door, supposedly working as room service.

"Is everything alright in here? I heard some crazy laughter or something in here or something." The Pikachu said. Well so much for privacy.

Kaveri was in front of the Pikachu within an instant, a large grin plastered on her face. "Oh, that'd be me! Wanna join the party? Though, we're out of snacks..."

The Pikachu looked up to Kaveri and just blinked. "Uh... no thanks... oh, I'm sorry if I interrupted you two the neighbors were just concerned with all of the noise but I guess that's expected from a lively pair like you two. Hehe," He said with a small grin.

Snype blinked and quickly moved over to the Pikachu pushing him out the door. "Yeah yeah, look we need a bit of privacy if that's cool with you." Snype said. Before the Pikachu could respond, he shut the door. "Guess knocking is a foreign concept." He added as he walked over to the window.

Another knock came, only it wasn't from the door. In front of Snype, just outside the window, the lithe form of a Delphox was floating middle air with his feet up, as if he was sitting on a couch of air. Sylvio had just knocked the window and was grinning with mischief, his eyes jumping from Kaveri to Snype, knowingly. "Would you let a poor fox in?" he cried in a mock-hurt expression, which quickly turned sharp and mean, "unless I interrupt things which should not be interrupted." He threw his head back and laughed melodically.

Snype's ears perked up a bit. One thing after another but at least this time it was welcome company. He jumped over to the window and opened it right up for Sylvio. "I was actually about to go look for you! Makes my job easier! Keheh," Snype said with a grin.

Sylvio landed softly on the wooden floor and bowed slightly to Kaveri, then to Snype, his hands braided together as if he was delighted to see them. "Greetings, friends," he said. "How fare you since we arrived?"

"Yo, Silver! Doing just dandy, yeh want some candy?" Kaveri held the bag out, then paused and put it back down. "Oh, right, there's not any left."

"Pretty good. I've actually been making a couple of new friends. By the way, when we're out in public, call me Aden. I don't want folks to know my identity or anything like that. I could be famous in these parts ya know?" Snype explained. "Anyways. I got ourselves a job from a Raticate that I saved earlier. There's been alot of talk about this group called the brotherhood so I'm hoping that this will help us get in contact with whoever is in charge. It'd be a great first step into establishing our presence here. How bout you Sylvio? I take you've been busy."

"Busy indeed, as always," Sylvio said in response. He sat down on the bed of the room and began taking out things from his Magic Room. A map of the local vicinities of Argime unfolded in the air, floating in front of their eyes. The candlelight painted it orange. "I procured a map from an old acquaintance of mine who lives very near; his name is Errol, he's a Gastrodon who frisks every female of his egg group and also runs a muddy spa, likely to attract said females." Sylvio laughed out loud, looking at Snype and Kaveri with shiny eyes, as if he'd been crying, but with a wild, happy grin that made him look like he was partying; that wasn't far from the truth. "The spa is inside a rock with limited access underground, which I offered to expand; the new quarters should serve as a hideout, or an additional inlet for you and your men..." His eyes fell on the Floatzel. "... and women," he added, laughter in his eyes, "should you have any desire or need for it."

"Well well! You HAVE been busy! Keheh. That'll make a great hideout whenever we have to lay low on our own! And a map? That's convenient because I have no idea where stuff is in this town! Mostly followed some of our new friends and such. We're supposed to meet up with some others at the Raegal Center. An old library apparently." Snype said.

Kaveri stared at Sylvio silently for a few moments, a frown on her muzzle. Then without warning and with a cry of, "PERV!" she reeled back her fist and punched him in the face. Turning to Snype as if nothing had happened, she instantly perked right back up. "Hey, maybe that Oddish trail place will be on there!"

Sylvio yelped when Kaveri's fist struck his nose; he grabbed his hurt snout with both hands, rubbing it as if he couldn't believe what just happened. He suddenly sprung from the bed, standing taller than her with a wild, infuriated look on his face. "That was uncouth and uncalled for. I thought the Gold Tribe was noble and kind... perhaps I made a horrid mistake in believing that," he said harshly, obviously agitated. "I have gone to great lengths to help with this mission - if this is how you treat me, then I no longer wish to be part of it."

Kaveri crossed her arms and pouted irately. "You asked for it!"

Snype moved over to Sylvio as he got punched. "Geez! What the heck was that for, Kav? Don't mind her Sylvio. She's in a bit of a sugar rush a whole bag of candy right into her head. Keheh," Snype said, glancing over to Kaveri.

"Anyways, I'm sure the others are finished up with their job. I'll send a Ninjask over to figure out where they are." Snype said. He'd walk over to the window and let out a whistle, calling over one of the many Ninjask.

"Go find Obsidian and Charlie. We need to get together. We're meeting up at the Pit." Snype said. With that, the Ninjask flew right off to find its target.

Snype, Obsidian, Charlie, Kaveri and Sylvio - Meeting at the Pit Part II

Obsidian was silent as he walked behind Charlie. He didn't bother to look up or even talk. He just kept his lips as tight as he could and just wanted this horrible night to end. He... he thought he was ready. Maybe... well, no, it wasn't a maybe. It was a definite 'no' that he was in no position to even try anything apart from Penance. He had gone and flunked everything up. He just... well... he had to come clean about it once they came back. That was one conversation he wasn't looking forward to. Of course, it wasn't like the Scyther was any louder. No way he was gonna slide past the boss that he'd screwed up, and good. That wasn't what worried him. No, it worried him that they'd come back pretty much empty-clawed, and only inches from getting where they'd needed to be to get at info that would help.

Charlie was shook from his thoughts for a second as a Ninjask caught his attention - one of theirs that seemed to be wanting to see Charlie.

The Ninjask quickly flew up closer to Obsidan and Charlie. "There you two are. The boss wants all the thieves to meet up. We're meeting up at a Bar called the Pit. Lower district of town. They'll give the details later." The Ninjask simply said before zooming off toward the direction of the bar.

"I ain't certain 'a thing here... I think we're meant ta follow him..." Charlie shrugged. "I'll take ta the sky. Ya follow on the ground."

Obsidian just remained silently. He kept his head down cast as he moved on past and walked along the street. He let out a weak sigh and shoved his claws into his pockets and every so often looked up to keep on track.

~~~
Obsidian sighed as he finally made it to the bar proper, in fact just outside a window. He looked up at Charlie and the Ninjask that buzzed about and hesitantly reached out and knocked on it. He balled his hands up into his fists as he began to sweat from his nerves.
"Ah that's them." Snype said as he opened up the door for the two. "Sheesh you two look like you've been through hell and back. Well at least the whole gang is together now. Comon get in here." Snype said as he headed back to sit on the bed.
"Well, it's the fanciest hell I ever been ta." Charlie quipped back at Snype. "What we all meetin' for anyway, Boss?"
"Well I'll try to sum it up quickly. I'm going under the name Aden to hide that I'm the King of Thieves. So far I've made myself a bit of a small hero in this part of town for helping out. Now I'm involved in a job to steal an incoming shipment from some of the Royal Guards. If we pull it off correctly, it could lead us to more information and a possible connection with this group called the brotherhood." Snype began.
"Everyone in this town worships a Pokemon known as the Savior. I don't know what he did but everyone will praise him when something good happens. He's from this place called the Oddish Trail but I doubt that's important right now. The really interesting thing is that this "savior" only showed up recently. Something happened recently that caused Tollen to close off its borders. Alot of Pokemon died from whatever went down and I'm guessing this Savior...er...saved them. Sounds like a pretty darn stand up guy but something about this story rubs me the wrong way." Snype said with a shrug.
"So that gives us a couple goals. Figure out what caused Tollen to close off its borders within the past year and what big changes happened, and make a connection with this Brotherhood. Sylvio here also established our first base of operations. A spa that one of his acquaintances owns. So we'll be able to earn some profits as well as get some more information." Snype finally concluded.
"So how bout you two? Obsidian said he was going to get some building plans. Learn anything interesting that might be related?"
Obsidian opened his mouth, but quickly closed it as he closed his eyes. He wanted to say something, anything, but he just hung his head and closed his eyes. He couldn't... he couldn't say it. He just... he had been given a mission, a job... and he had blown it up. He... he ruined everything.
Of course you did.
Oh great. He closed his eyes tighter and let out a stressed breath. He so did not need this right now.
"Hmm? Got anything Obsidian? Any kind of information could be useful to the job. We're still as blind as ever here so if you know something, that'd be great." Snype said.
"His first plan didn't go great, he didn't get none 'a 'em." Charlie butted in. "So I picked him up fer a plan 'a my own. Get ta the big palace an' root around fer anythin' useful fer us."
Snype felt something snap in his head. "Wait. Run that by me again." Snype said sternly. "You're telling me... that you two went IN the palace?" Snype said. None of that was part of this job. It was simply to get building plans to scout other possible hideouts. He had a really bad feeling about this whole thing now.
"Right, we did. Got pretty deep in, too. S'posed ta be lookin' fer stuff ta help the others out? What's gonna be better for 'em than notes from the almighty power over this place?" Charlie took a deep breath. "We were doin' good, we got close... I reckon we were just the difference of the choice 'a doors away from gettin' in ta the Queen's head." After that, Charlie seemed hesitant to move on with his story.
Snype was silent. Just staring coldly at Charlie. "...Well? Did you find anything useful? What do you mean you got close...?" Snype asked. He had a more serious vibe from him then ever before. Almost frightening.
Charlie's voice darkened in kind. "Why don't ya finish our little tale, Obsidian?"
Obsidian remained silent, just keeping his head downcast. "We failed. Alright?" He said, "I messed up everything. It's all my fault so if you're going to scream do it already."
Snype was silent for awhile there. Jumping from his seat and seemingly pacing around trying to put his thoughts together. Trying his damn best to keep a calm head. Everything he had planned up to this point would have to take a different approach. This meant nothing for the upcoming job but moving up to the palace would be much more difficult if they discovered the thieves were in town. Snype's eyes were giving a brighter glow then usual.
"...Charlie. I have a question for you." Snype said. "What were your orders before heading off?" Snype asked.
"What's our job out here, boss? I'll go off-script if it's doin' what we're meant ta do." Charlie retorted.
Snype twitched his eye. "Don't avoid the ***king question Charlie. What. Were. Your. Orders before you flew off after Obsidian? What did I specificly tell you to do? Obsidian's job was to get building plans. What were yours?"
"Refresh my memory." Charlie came back, not backing up an inch.
"Oh, oh, I know! Pick me, pick me!" Kaveri squealed, waving a paw in the air.
Snype glanced over to Kaveri and then back to Charlie. "You really don't remember huh? Well then there's a very good reason for that Charlie. You listening this time? Good." Snype stepped forward and placed his hands behind his back. His hand clenched up and his eyes gave off a sharp glimmer. Quickly enough, he stepped forward to Charlie and used Foul Play, giving him a sharp jab to the chest. "I never GAVE you an ORDER!" Snype shouted - attacking the Scyther with his own power knocked all the wind clean out of him, leaving Charlie gasping at some extra breaths.
Sylvio sat cross-legged on the bed, his head tilted slightly in disturbance. He rubbed his chin thoughtfully. "Snype," he said, trying to calm him down, "what is done is done."
"Shut the f*ck... up! This ain't.... yer problem, Fluffy!" Charlie snapped, still reeling from the blow. "An' what's yer problem boss... you ain't gonna give me instruction... ya expect me ta stand around with my claw up my ass or somethin'?"
Snype ignored Sylvio. "I had planned to give you an instruction. Unfortunately you were gone by then. I admit, sending you with Obsidian would have likely been the job either way. But moving into the palace without my knowledge? Your plan? Getting caught?! All you two had to do was get building plans! The diplomatic team can handle anything in the palace! Did they see you? Did any of you get any kind of useful information? Names? Dates? Anything suspicious at all? Anything worth being discovered over?" Snype said.
"Yer gettin' the wrong end 'a this whole 'discovered' business. This ain't total sour, we've had jobs go worse. They don't know who we are, an' they don't know who we're with. All they know is that somemon got their way in." Charlie explained, straining to keep his voice at a reasonable level. "We even gotta couple 'a scapegoats ta take the blame. An' we didn't get much, no. I made the call ta get out when they got all suspicious so it didn't end up the clusterf*ck you seem to think it is!"
"Tsk. Well lucky you then. If anything they'll blame the brotherhood if they're seriously a big deal like the thieves are.
Obsidian perked up, "Uh.... they... did...?" He croaked out softly.
"Said they done that kinda crazy sh*t before, basically." Charlie added, with a nod.
Snype placed his hand on his chin and thought of how he could take this little mess up and work it to his advantage. Possible scenarios. "If they see the Brotherhood as a further threat from this little incident then its likely they could end up sending the diplomatic team down to help take them out if they're trusted enough... whether thats a good or bad thing, I'm not sure. But having encounters with the other team is something I've expected to happen sooner or later. But I'd just be getting ahead of myself..." Snype thought aloud.
"Gah... I'm overthinking things. I have no idea what this all means for our team or what will happen. Either it'll work to our advantage or go against us. Right now we should all focus on that shipment job..." Snype paused a moment and looked over to Charlie.
"But. Charlie. Next time, I don't want you running off on your own and coming up with ridiculous plans like this! I don't want to begin to think what would happen if you two were captured." Snype said.
"An' yeh tell me what yer colour woulda been if this'd gone totally peachy." Charlie shot back. "If Leeroy Obsidian hadn't decided to charge 'fore any f*cker else could stop him? Yer pissed 'cause a job went bad." He continued trying to convince himself.
"No. I'm pissed because you challenged my authority! On more than one occasion! Stupid ol' me just decided to stay soft and now I have to deal with this situation! Screwing up happens. We're walking in blind. But if you're gonna infiltrate the palace, I'd like to know and see if it isn't a stupid move!" Snype said.
Obsidian slowly got off of his seat and was silent for a moment. "Leeeroy... Obsidian." He said slowly. "Oh... oh, I'M a Leeroy? How about you just running up and telling me it was alright to go to the palace and not mentioning ONCE that Snype didn't approve it!? That's when this all started, you idiot!"
Charlie shook his head at Obsidian in vaguely feigned sorrow. "I'm sorry, kid, I got this impression my boss trusted me an' it turns out that ain't the case. That ain't rashness, that's makin' a call on what ya thought that weren't true."
"Oh, so I'm RASH now!?" The Weavile snapped, his left claw starting to take on a murky purple glow, "So you can do whatever you want, but the minute I do something just like it I get punished!? BULL SH*T!" He snapped, "All the way here you gave me that evil eye and tried to guilt trip me when it was YOUR fault all this time! You're supposed to be a veteran! And instead THIS happens!"
Snype attempted to interupt. "Guys comon this isn't making things much bette-
"I ain't s'posed ta be nothin'. I am the best!" Charlie began. He was interrupted, however, when Kaveri wrapped her arms around both Charlie and Obsidian, using one of her tails to drag Snype in as she squeeze all three tight together in a hug.
"Aren't we supposed to be making plans or something? I dunno, I wasn't really paying attention."
Sylvio rubbed his forehead and shook his head.
"Well, I can't think about jack when ya got my brain pressed on..." Charlie took a wild guess as to who he'd been forced to headbutt. "...everyone!"
"Mmmph... kehe... yeah one problem at a time. We can go for each other's throats after we steal that shipment. Er... when you're done with this little hug anyways..." Snype said, his face a little red being pressed up so close to the rest of the gang.
Obsidian squirmed a bit, "Uh... well... this is... something." He said awkwardly. "Do mon do this often?"
"More or less..." Snype said bashfully.
The door started to knock. The same Pikachu opened the door and looked inside."Hey are you sure you're alright in here? I heard alot of banging and stu-" He stopped as he noticed the four Pokemon together in a group hug and just awkwardly stared at them for a moment. Not even questioning where all this company came from.
"...Right uh... I'll just... go..." He said as he awkwardly left and slowly closed the door.
Obsidian managed to wiggle free as he pulled at his clothes, "Ah.. uh... well... I did find some things. But it's really small stuff." He said with a weak shrug.
Snype was still right in Kaveri's hug but turned to Obsidian. "You did? Well, even the smallest things could matter in the future. Like puzzle pieces. Whatcha got?"
Obsidian shrugged, "Uh... it was this one position. You know how there are three leaders of the guards in Tollen? One of them died this year. Someone named Isabella Saena and there was some new guy. His name is Marcus Tyren. It's kind of a coincidence eh? General on our side just getting elected too right?" He said with a meager shrug, "Anyways... there was this strange Herdier we also saw. He seemed to be a noble, but he could smell us. It was... odd. He knew exactly where we were, he was just sniffing all over the area and... he just left. Poof. Just told his guards to take him home and that was it."
Snype grinned. "That's... actually very valuable info. And suspicious. A savior, a new general, some event that caused several Pokemon to die in the past year... and closing the borders? These all have to be related. Keheh. Hey Charlie, looks like your stupid plan actually DID have some good stuff out of it!" Snype said with a chuckle.
"Funny how that Herdier didn't go off and spot you... Marcus Tyren right? Well... after we steal the shipment for the Brotherhood, I say we investigate what exactly happened to close off the borders. Perhaps just what killed off most of the Pokemon in Tollen and what happened to the previous general." Snype said with a grin, finally back in good spirits.
"There was something else. We found this Mr. Mime, his name was Rupert but we sort of... clonked him on the head. And then the queen herself came in with some royal guards! It was a clusterf*ck, but she's being moved elsewhere. There was some Ampharos there too but I didn't catch her name. This Rupert was some sort of maid or something. I think."
"Tsk... well that's inconvenient...I'm not too concerned with the Queen at this moment more than I am about Tollen in general. The Diplomatic team can handle anything else in the palace but I'm still worried what this little screw up is going to mean for them. Interesting that the Queen was out and about like that though.
"I take when this Rupert got knocked out, that's when you get caught. If it were me, I would have avoided contact with them either way. But I'll save some personal thief lessons for later. Maybe tonight I could give you all a bit of a refresher course or somethin." Snype said.
Obsidian shrugged, "He did end up shouting out before, so that's how it happened. But... uh... I really, I mean I haven't done a course on thievery before. It's not hard is it?"
"Keheh. Well... you'll see whenever we get the chance. Anyways, we should get ready. The meeting place is at the Raegal Center. Sylvio has a map so we just need to head there. I'm sure they'll appreciate the extra talent. Kehe." Snype said, getting himself out of the hug. "Alright so if nobody else has anything to say, lets get moving."
Obsidian however raised a claw up as he pointed at the departing Sylvio, "Uh sorry Snype. We have to do something real quick. We'll meet back up with you all at the place!" He said as he quickly exited to follow the fox along.
The Pit- Change of Plans
Snype had just headed out of his room with the rest of the thieves, minus Sylvio and Obsidian who seemed to be chatting something up in private. He'd need Sylvio's map to even find the meeting place either way so Snype was stuck waiting around nonetheless. He wasn't sure if he liked leaving Obsidian and Sylvio by themselves to say whatever behind Snype's back. He'd just have to bother one of them about it later.
The familiar sight of Max the bartender could be seen coming up the stairs toward the rooms just as Snype exited his own. Upon seeing the Sableye, the Machoke waved and approached him. "Oi, Aden!" He cried as he walked up to him. "Change of plans, we're hitting the shipment tomorrow instead of tonight."
"Tommorow? Well that's certainly sudden. I've gotten all of my buddies together though so it gives us time to get some sleep and refresh ourselves" Snype said, glancing over to the sugar high Kaveri. "What happened? Did something go wrong or what?"
The Machoke shrugged. "Nothin' on our part, as far as I know, but they cancelled the shipment at the last minute. Some kinda trouble at the palace as far as I hear. They'll be sending it out first thing in the morning instead."
Great... Snype was afraid this was going to happen. "...Call it a hunch, but I have a feeling this job is gonna be alot more difficult now. I would do more then prepare for the upcoming job... just a thought." Snype said, almost slipping from his fake identity there.
"Oh?" The Machoke questioned, cocking an eyebrow. "I guess you might be right but... you don't know anything 'bout what's goin' on over there, do ya?"
Snype paused to think about how he was going to answer this. But then figured it wouldn't really change the situation if he just admitted their involvement. "Nah I haven't heard anything yet. But if something happened at the palace then you can bet they'll get more paranoid with the shipment. Stronger guards perhaps. I'd say prepare for anything." Snype said.
Max nodded. "Yeah, I guess so," He leaned in and slapped the Sableye hard on the back. "Ya know, I had half a thought comin' up here that you'd bail when you heard this, but... yer alright. Don't ya screw up tomorrow now. Lotsa mon'll be watchin'."
"Nah I doubt I'll screw up. Infact, I'd like to scout around the place we're meeting up. I might be able to come up with a plan for my own men. I'll pass it down to all of you tommorow morning when we arrive. I'll be early. I don't know where the shipment is coming from yet after all." Snype explained.
Max chuckled. "A planner, eh? Eye's a planner too. You'll meet her tomorrow probably. If things go well, at least. If not, you'll probably be dead," Max shrugged his shoulders. "But I get the feeling you'll be alright. Go fer it, I say. The others'll probably have scouted ahead of time too, but always nice to have 'nother go-around."
"Right. You'd be surprised what kinda things you miss in a city." Snype said. The fact that he had natural night vision would also help him out. Oh the pros of being a Sableye. "Anyways, me and my buddies will meet up at the spot early. Anything else?"
The Machoke thought for a moment longer, then shook his head. "No, that's about it. Be sure to rest up now. You'll all need yer senses for this one."
"Yeah. We'll be sure to." Snype said with a grin. At least now he'd be able to check out the hideout that Sylvio found. A hot spring was sounding good right about now.
Sylvio and Obsidian : Bonding time of sorts
Sylvio had taken the Weavile to the side and together they strayed away from the group of thieves. The Delphox ignored any strange looks Obsidian might give him; when they were a good distance away from the others, he whispered, "I am on your side, you know. I do not like this Charlie fellow... I need to know. Do you think it was his fault? Or yours?"
Obsidian was silent for a bit, "I think... " He said softly. "Well... I never really thought about the palace before to be honest. When Charlie first said that we would head there... I did feel a bit queasy. I mean, I know how to sneak sure, but not well enough to avoid guards. It surprised me really. At first we were doing really well, it was like the guards were having some sort of off day. We just tricked them left and right and then I made my own mistake. I attacked when I shouldn't have had and that caused us to leave early. So... I think in the end it was more of his fault. He led us to the palace and if he hadn't made that decision, then I would have never made my own mistake there."
Sylvio chuckled, without looking at the Weavile; they kept walking through the street, well away from the group. "Your first mistake was to heed someone of questionable intelligence..." he said casually, but it looked like the Delphox's mind was at work. "Do not let others drag you down," he added softly. Normally, he wouldn't be so quick to offer advice, but as Snype was scolding those two, Sylvio took some pity in Obsidian - that Weavile could've been his son. He took very little pity, but enough to approach him.
Obsidian smiled a bit weakly, "Thanks. Well, I try not to let it get to me, but sometimes it is a bit much. I thought for a moment Snype would tear my head off." He sighed a bit, "I... I've always wanted to lead, you know? I mean, Penance is right there giving me lessons about leadership and I always thought that I would be ready when the time came. I always thought that a leader could do any job he gave to those under him. That really didn't help now that I think about it. I went in too confident with everything when I should have exercised caution and good wit. Like with Charlie. I should have said no, that it was a bad idea. I thought about it, and I guess in the end I simply thought he had more experience and knew what he was doing."
"Do you feel ready to lead?" Sylvio asked him. "Not an entire organization... just you. Lead your own life."
Obsidian slowly nodded, "I think so. So long Penance has been leading me along. Don't get me wrong, I'm thankful for all the lessons he's taught. He's just so clingy. I want to be able to make my own decisions, do stuff that I want to do."
"It sounds like you are in the wrong profession," Sylvio said, bemused. "You aren't very fond of the Seekers?" he asked, knowingly.
Obsidian sighed, "Not really that. The Seekers are fine, I have a lot of friends among them. Just... it's Penance really. If it was anyone else then I know I would have freedom. I would be able to choose what I could do with my life. With him, it's just the pressure to be what he wants me to be. You know, this is the most free I've ever been." He held his arms out wide, "It's... yeah I'm making mistakes. But... it's just so free and wonderful!"
Sylvio glanced at him mischievously. He thought for a second and said, "you are a good lad. I appreciate youth. Since we are part of the same team, would you mind if I gave you a task? It is nothing too complex. Someone of your level would handle it smoothly!"
Obsidian blinked and put his hands on his hips, not able to help with puffing out his chest, "Sure! I can handle whatever you got!" He said, "As long as it doesn't involve infiltrating a castle."
Sylvio laughed softly at the comment. "Earlier, I met with an old acquaintance of mine over at Molly's Spa. He owns the place, which I offered to expand for him, and let's just say, I let the greedy people do the work by "finding gold" inside the rock where the facility is built. After that, you only have to choose the best aromatic soap you can find in the spa and clean the place up." He looked at the Weavile sideways, laughter in his eyes.
Obsidian blinked, "... Finding gold?" He asked, "Is that some sort of metaphor? I apologize, but I've never heard the saying before."
"I took the day's profits, melted it and paraded in the street," Sylvio explained quickly.
"Oooohhh." Obsidian nodded, "Okay... so if the spa is expanded then what do you need me to do?"
Sylvio got all serious now. "We must get all of those people out of there," he said, "before we are to stay there. To do that, we must find, hire - or slaughter - a Skuntank and throw it in the caves. The smell will be so horrible, they will come running out and go digging to another spot where "gold was found". Savvy?"
"Slaughter?" Obsidian asked warily, "You're... joking about that right?"
Sylvio stopped walking and stared at the Weavile. "I do not joke about matters of death," he spoke intensely. "Skuntanks in the sewer must be half wild, if not entirely. No one will mourn one's death, nor will anyone go looking for one if it goes missing. That is, unless you approach them with a pouch full of gold, to avoid a casualty... I suppose conscience does get expensive." The Delphox let out a hearty laugh.
Obsidian nodded, "Well... if we do hire one on... then he could always talk about how he was hired to scare everyone off. That can't be good."
"Ah!" Sylvio let out, pleased with the Weavile, "good thought, I commend you. Had I been more generous about this matter, I would have overlooked this detail. Kudos!"
Obsidian crossed his arms as he thought, though a small smile and the lightest of blushes formed from the fox's praise, "The best manner would be to kill one I would think. They are... well, there have to be some who are wild. It's the sewers after all. So when should I get it done by?"
Sylvio rubbed his hands, braiding and releasing his claws in deep thought. "Perhaps... as quick as possible. Before, or after what our friends are cooking for our group in the library. Oh? What's this?" He pulled his brows together and grasped the air. The shard of a broken mirror slipped out of his Magic Room, floating in front of Sylvio and Obsidian; Joshua's face was showing on it. He was about to send a message through the magical object! Sylvio glanced warily at Obsidian and decided he could trust him with it. He pulled him to a backalley and set the mirror against the wall, so nobody would see it...
A hunt for stinkiness
Obsidian was quick to make his way along the darkening streets. Many mon were still on the streets, most likely there simply to close up shop or do last minute shopping. Though, the primary reason seemed to be that they were going out simply to drink the night away and catch up with old friends. This time Obsidian wasn't talking to anyone. He walked along the streets as if he had a set intention to head to one place In fact, he did have a set intention. The sewers beat him once before, but this time he would overcome them!
As he stepped into those sewers once more he suddenly realized that he had forgotten he didn't have anyway to light up a path. He facepalmed and let out a weak sigh as he put a clawed hand against the wall and proceeded down the walkway. The path was rather long and there were a few twists and turns, some of which had led him to almost fall over the side and into the murky depths of the sewage. Every time he took in a breath he felt the intense need to gag, but that wasn't going to stop him now. He was going to prove himself! This was no palace, so there were no excuses to being unable to complete his mission!
As he continued to walk along he heard a gurgle echo out amid the deserted corridors. He paused his advancement as yet another gurgle reverberated from in front of him. He had been down here long enough for his eyes to, somewhat, adjust. He was able to barely make out a small shape starting to move down the path toward him. As it got closer Obsidian realized that it was a Grimer. The wild mon gurgled more and quickly rushed forward at the Weavile.
Obsidian in turn held out a claw as a Shadow Ball formed in his palm. He waited for the wild to inch a bit closer before his ball flew out and smacked into the Grimer's poisonous bulk. Slabs of toxic waste were propelled from the blast and ended up splattering along the walls. The Grimer's corpse sunk down against the walkway as some of the sludge slipped into water. Obsidian sighed and leaped over the remains as he kept on making his way forward. Eventually he began to hit areas where he would have to make a turn around a corner, or he would have to backtrack when reaching a dead end.
Many of the mon down here ended up running away when they would her his footsteps, and that was just more of a headache for him. How was he supposed to find a Skuntank when all of them kept on running from him!? It seemed odd somehow. When he would find a mon he would leap at it, but he would find that it was something else entirely. An Ekans here, a rattata here, and none of the emitting a stench like a Skuntank.
Obsidian had gotten so angry that he started charging in to grab any Skuntank that he could. He had only ended up causing the various wilds to scatter. Finally, he laid his eyes on one large Skuntank that was sleeping next to a wall. "Going to get him... gonna get him.." Obsidian muttered to himself, twitching now from anger as he readied his claws... and leapt at his foe. He ended up flying right over the skunk and slamming into the wall head first instead.
As his blurred vision began to clear up he was aware of a seeing a shape in front of him. Soon enough it became readily apparent that a tail was raised high with an a** presented right at his face. Looking back at him was a Skuntank with a wide smirk on its face.
"... you f**ker...." Obsidian managed to gasp out before the skunk released its toxic fumes. Obsidian quickly closed his eyes as he began to hack and cough loudly, his hands quickly shielding his face. His eyes burned and tears quickly began to slide down his cheeks as throughout it all that Skuntank laughed at his misfortune. He attempted to slice at the rude beast, but his teary eyes only hindered his efforts. By the time he had rubbed the burning sensation away the skunk was long since gone.
After a good few seconds of angrily punching the walls he managed to rise and started down the walkway once more. Though as he took another step a figure suddenly rushed out and he yelped out in surprise. He backed away and ended up falling into the water. Of course, he was quick to surface and scrambled as quickly as he could and there, further along the walkway, was the Skuntank billowing with loud laughter.
"'YOU!!!" Obsidian screeched as he ran right at the skunk, anger clouding him as the skunk waited patiently before stepping to the side and sticking out his large bushy tail. Obsidan yelped as his foot caught on it and he ended up rolling along and slamming into the wall. He groaned and he saw the skunk shaking its tail at him as it chuckled.
Obsidian took in a deep breath as he stood up and brushed himself off, shuddering as water dripped from his form, "... I will kill you. Mark my words, you will be dead within an hour's time." He said softly as he stared right at the skunk. His foe snickered and dashed off into the darkness.
****
Obsidian wasn't sure how it happened. It defied all possible explanations. He had broken some of the wood that connected two walkways and had managed to chase the skunk to that spot. Somehow it had appeared on the other side and flicked the broken boards into the water. He had tried waiting from the ceiling and using his string. The skunk had seen it and nibbled through it.
He was reaching the end of his rope as every trap he tried, every strategy he employed... all of it backfired. And funny enough that Skuntank was always around just long enough to snicker and dash off. Every time his anger grew until finally with his last attempt he stopped and really thought about it. His smile grew as a plan began to form in his mind.
He spent only a few minutes laying down the ground work, but he got it up all nice and tidy. It didn't take that long to find the skunk, but this time he held his ground. "Hey, stinky!"
The Skuntank hissed a bit and dragged a paw along the ground as Obsidian gestured for him to come for him, "Come on."
The skunk smirked and dashed right at him, stopping right in front to twist about, raise his tail, and spray the Weavile. The poison type initially laughed, but when the double disappeared it looked on in surprise. From behind the Weavile struck with a Shadow Claw and caused the skunk to fly forward along the ground before hitting into a wall. Just as it managed to twist about, it could clearly see the Weavile's claw moving, barely inches from its face.
****
Obsidian cheerfully whistled as he walked along the streets. He wore his pack on his back, and he held another white bag that he swung casually back and forth. He was in good spirits now, but he still had to fulfill his mission. He remembered the directions that Sylvio had given him, so he was quick to slip out of a alleyway and flicked on his shadow stone. He grunted as he slipped his white bag over his shoulder and dug his claws into the side of the spa as he quickly climbed up the stone.
"Alright… here we go." He murmured to himself. He opened his bag and lifted out the smelly carcass, flinching a bit as he held the dead skunk over an opening that would vent out the steam and he closed his eyes as he dropped it. He heard it hit the ground with a splat, followed by some confused voices down below, and then screams. He heard many complaining about the smell and others screaming that there was a dead body. Soon everyone was running out of the spa as fast as they could and Obsidian smiled weakly, "Heh… good."
He made his way off the roof, watching as the mon kept on fleeing until finally he poked his head in through the doorway. There were many overturned tables and shattered jars, but he smiled weakly and stepped in, "Do you have a bath for one?"
Alexis the Gardevoir - Tollen Forests - ???
[Css-div=width:600px; text-align:justify;]A chill ran through the dark forest, whipping around the lone figure. After stopping for a second to adjust its dress, the figure resumed walking down the diml lit forest path.
The figure was tall for a Pokemon, and humanoid in shape. A slim frame gave way to a flowing gown, and its face was halfway covered with shoulder length blue hair. To any knowledgeable in the types of Pokemon, they'd know that the figure was obviously a Gardevoir, but any other details are hidden by the shadows.
The Gardevoir known as Alexis, one of the Seekers, shivered as another breeze passed through him. If he wasn't lost in some far off forsaken forest, he would have loved to have tea about now. Yet it was not possible. No, an awry warp had left him in the middle of nowhere, all alone, and completely lost. It was not pleasant in the slightest.
Ah, but what he would give for company! Alas, the lonesome whistling through the trees was the only sound accompanying the lonesome trek. It was surely a bleak situation.
Ah, but that sound! It was definitely unnatural. A brief thrust of his conscious revealed not one but several shapes moving nearby. Judging by their psychic makeup, they were other Pokemon at that! His saviors had arrived!
To the small group of Rock Pokemon currently searching around the neaby fort, the following would most likely appear as such. In a flash, a Gardevoir, covered in dirt and seeming overall out of it, was standing in front of them. With a weak grin, the Gardevoir took a step towards them before passing out on the ground from pure exhaustion.[/div]
Guardia, Watchman, Thomas, and Anna - Argime, Tollen
"Damn it," Guardia cursed as she began to pace around the room. "Isabella's out. I was really hoping we'd be able to get some support from her. Or at least a damn friendly face. Now we have someone I never heard of!" She yelled.
"Neither have I," Thomas added. "But in reality, this doesn't change too much, I imagine. We came here to appeal to the nobility first, after all. Still, this might prove a blow to securing alliances, though I can't be sure. The more interesting thing is... this replacement, whether from death or other reasons, happened in the last year, just as Tollen cut ties with everyone. What do you suppose that means?"
Joshua shrugged, placing the mirror shard back inside his coat. "It could mean a variety of things, but our assumptions would be nothing but pure conjecture." His gaze was seemingly fixed on the ground, pondering the information that had been given them. "Whatever it means, I highly doubt it's pure coincidence. I think the Tollenians are trying to hide something."
"Well, it wouldn't be completely out of their nature to do so," Thomas concurred. "That Herdier that the thief team ran into? The one with the emerald Dragalge insignia? I'm almost certain that's Lord Arron, the head of House Durania. I can't imagine him not being involved in all of this somehow, given his... reputation for indictable activities."
"What about this savior and the Brotherhood?" Guardia questioned. "Both are names I haven't heard of before when I visited Tollen."
Thomas shrugged. "Nor have I, although it would have been much easier for a name like the Brotherhood to slip conversation than something, or someone, like a 'savior'," He stated. "I think we can presume that title is something new. What exact-"
As Thomas was speaking, the door to their chamber burst open, with Lord Marrow storming in accompanied by two Royal Knights, the Shiftry and Arcanine they had seen before. He glared at them all angrily, before turning to the Shiftry knight. "Have they left the room at all?"
The Shiftry shook his head. "No, my lord. They have been here the entire time."
Lord Marrow glared at his knight, then turned to the group again. "Have they sent a message to anyone?"
The Shiftry shook his head again. "They received no flying mon, and no servants or maids visited their chambers, my lord. They have been isolated the entire time."
"There was an incident today in the palace. You wouldn't know anything about it, would you?" He asked sternly.
Joshua recoiled back in surprise, gulping once and shivering at Marrow's presence. "A-an incident? What do you mean? W-what's going on?!"
Marrow sighed. He walked over to an armchair to the side of the room and sat in it. He palmed his face and shook his head, before turning his head once more to the group. "Earlier today, somemon, perhaps one or multiple, we don't know, infiltrated the palace. We are uncertain of their motivations at the moment. However some believe, given their navigation in the palace, that it could have potentially been an assassination attempt on the Queen," Marrow's brows narrowed and he stood up, walking over to the nearby window.
"I... do not believe my friend Thomas has the audacity for something so despicable as this, but I wouldn't put it past the Gold Tribe," Marrow stated. "There are some who believe a different culprit could be behind this, as they have done similar incidents in the past. However, I was meeting with the nobility and leaders of Argime right now, and there are also some who believe your arrival into the city and this attack seem a bit... coincidental," Marrow locked eyes angrily with the group, scanning each one of them intensely as if he was trying to dissect their inner thoughts. "If you did have anything to do this, I assure you we will find out eventually and you will be punished to the highest degree. Do you understand?"
Joshua bowed his head instinctively, shutting his eyes tightly. He didn't dare bring them up to look at Marrow. "We understand completely, sir! We had nothing to do with this, I swear!"
Marrow glared at Joshua intensely for another few seconds, before he sighed and shook his head. "It must have been that accursed Brotherhood then," He declared. "No matter, it will be dealt with. This wasn't the only reason I have come, though. I have news for you. The others were quite surprised, some angry, that you are in the city. However, I have convinced enough of them to grant you an audience before them. Given this... situation, however, it will be held tomorrow rather than today, to ensure that everything is secure. The major and minors Houses of Argime will be present, as will the General of the Standing Army and the Royal Commander. I will warn you that this incident in the palace will not help your case at all. In fact, it may have likely harmed it among some parties."
"I understand completely," Joshua replied, keeping his gaze fixed on the floor. "I-I'm sure you have everything under control, but if there is anything we can do to help, we would be more than happy to assist!"
Marrow was thoughtful for a moment, as if he wanted to tell something to the group, but he refrained. "... Noble as that is, I will have to decline the help of mon who believe Darkrai has come to destroy us all. Unless of course you happen to know something about the Brotherhood of Shadows? Or perhaps you believe that Darkrai had something to do with the Reckoning?"
Joshua finally brought his eyes up, confused. "B-brotherhood? Reckoning? My lord, I... I'm afraid I don't know what you are talking about." He gave a worried glance towards his comrades before turning back to Marrow. "My lord, we have only just arrived here. Whatever is going on in the palace, I assure you, we know nothing of it."
"Ah, I forgot that you had no knowledge of what has transpired," Marrow stated. He sighed again and glanced out the window. "Let's just say not all has been well with Tollen this past year and leave it at that. I will come back for you tomorrow morning and escort you into the palace. This chamber will be your bedroom for that duration. Dinner will be brought to you later tonight. You are not to leave during that time, unless you prefer to make my life even more difficult. I trust this will be acceptable?"
Joshua let out a small sigh of relief, nodding once. "Of course, my lord."
"Beyond acceptable," Thomas chimed in as well as he offered the Slowking a warm smile. "Thank you again."
Lord Marrow nodded and turned to leave. He exited the chambers, the two knights slamming the doors behind them.
"Well, that went well," Guardia said with a shrug.
Joshua suddenly turned to Guardia, an almost frantic look in his eyes. "You do realize your thief friends are dead, right??"
"I'm pretty sure Snype's gonna chew them out when he finds out. And if not, I'll beat their *sses myself. Arceus knows Charlie deserves as much," She replied.
"Oohhh, yes, of course!" Joshua replied, his tone suddenly growing increasingly sarcastic. "Because if ANYBODY is responsible and knows what they're doing, it's that two-bit thief Snype! Clearly the paragon of good behavior, that one!" Joshua rolled his eyes, pacing about the room in near-panic. "I'm not vouching for them. I'm sorry, but they're as good as dead, and so far as I'm concerned, they don't exist." He turned his eyes to the ceiling, groaning in worry and annoyance. "I'm sorry, Kaveri, I truly am. It's not my fault, I promise! If only you hadn't chosen to-"
Guardia walked over and grabbed Joshua by the shoulders. "Watchman, calm down!" She exclaimed as she shook him back and forth. "They'll be alright, and so will we," She said more calmly. "Everything happened as best as it could."
"Well, it could have gone a bit better," Thomas mumbled.
Joshua froze in Guardia's grip, finally taking in a deep breath and closing his eyes. He let out a long exhale, muttering to himself. Find your happy place... find your happy place. After a moment, he finally opened his eyes to meet Guardia's own. "I... I'm sorry..." He sighed, finally managing to regain his calm demeanor. "I hope so. We'll just have to hope and pray that they don't fudge this up. We're already on thin ice as it is."
The rest of the evening passed by without much else remarkable happening. Servants came by twice more during the evening; once was to provide them with their 'dinner', which turned out to be a bowl of berries and a loaf of bread for each of them. Guardia didn't complain, but she felt given Marrow's status as the most extravagant, this meal was likely meant to show his feelings towards the group. The second time, two servants fixed their beds in the evening. Beyond that, there wasn't much more contact with the outside.
Guardia never liked staying isolated in a small space for large periods of time. Thomas seemed to handle it much better than she did, but she preferred to actually be doing something. Even now, she knew the other two teams were likely making some leeway with their own plans. More than once, she contemplated jumping out the window and exploring the town a bit more to uncover what mysteries the Tollenians were burying, but she figured that might potentially hurt their position among the nobles. That, and Joshua might have a heart attack.
For Joshua, he couldn't tell if it was the stress of the day's activities or just overall lack of rest, but after the servants made their sleeping arrangements, the Swadloon practically crashed right then and there. Despite their circumstances, Joshua slept heavily, finally getting some much-needed rest after all they had been through thus far.
In the morning, a knock came on the door, and a Chestnaught stepped inside. He was an older mon, his hair slightly more gray than he would have liked. His armored shell also caused him to hunch over a bit. He met the group with a long, respectful bow. "Guardia, Mr. Blake, Watchman, Ms. Serta," He spoke, his eyes meeting each one of theirs as he announced their names. "My name is Alistair, of the Royal Knights of Tollen. It is an honor to meet you all. I will be your escort to the palace. The aristocracy and military are nearly all gathered. Are you all prepared to go? Do you have any last minute questions to ask?"
Joshua held back a yawn, still somewhat groggy from sleep. He shook his head slightly to wake himself, before meeting the Chesnaught's gaze. "No questions. I believe we are ready." He had hoped for some breakfast, or at the very least a morning's wash, but it didn't seem likely that their constituents would be keen on waiting. He straightened his ruffled jacket, turning towards his companions. "Are we?"
Checking to see if her wool and her bowtie were all in order, Annabelle gave Joshua an assenting "Yes!" True, meeting the nobles of Tollen made her a tad nervous given the circumstances, but she also knew that was all part of the job. Once they walked into that room, she knew the butterfrees in her stomach would go away and her focus would kick in. Anna walked up and stood beside Joshua, waiting with him for the others to get ready.
Guardia leaped out of her bed and stood beside Joshua and Anna. "I've been in this room way too long. I'm more than ready," she replied.
Thomas joined the three and nodded to Alistair. The Chestnaught glanced at the four, and then nodded, leading them out of the chamber. "Follow me, please," he stated.
It was a relatively short walk to the palace. It was often believed among the nobles that the closer your family's house was to the palace, the more prominent they were. The Manor of Ellia was right beside the palace, being one of the most influential noble families in Argime. Once they entered the gate surrounding it, they caught a good glimpse of it. If 'mon thought the mansions of the nobility were impressive, they hadn't yet seen the palace. It was a marvel to behold; a large structure, about four stories high, and beautiful beyond measure, just like much of the upper city. It was coated with fresh, pure white alabaster coating, which was applied a few times a year to ensure its elegance. The outside also had large white pillars with engravings and symbols, as well as statues of Pokemon. Some of these represented the old rulers, while others depicted legendary Pokemon, and others still heroes of Tollen's past.
The front doors were large, wide and long enough to grant audience to many 'mon at once, or a few larger ones. Guardia noticed the tight security that seemed to be present. The front doors had half a dozen Royal Knights standing watch, and the courtyard and the outskirts of the palace had many more. Alistair announced himself to the knights in front. They chatted for a moment, before the large doors of the palace began to swing open. Alistair turned back to the group and ushered them in. "This is it. Good luck to you," He said, before stepping aside and allowing the group to pass.
The doors led to a long hallway, with pillars along the ends of it. There were engravings and illustrations across the walls, depicting different 'mon supposedly famous to Tollen. The hallway was lined with a red carpet leading to the center of the chamber, which housed a circular stand, where the four of them were expected to stand and present their case. All around the stand, Pokemon watched and observed. There were dozens of 'mon on either side of the stand, all in fine clothing with the symbols and insignias of their houses. Royal Knights stood at the ends of the chamber, as well as beside many of the nobles. Directly in front of the stand was another group of Pokemon. There were seven chairs, but two were currently empty. One was occupied by Lord Marrow, another had a Herdier sitting on it. The Herdier wore an emerald cloak with a symbol of a Dragalge engraved on it.
Standing at a subtle distance behind the Herdier's seat, with his massive arms behind his back was a tall and brawny Abomasnow in a light-brown business suit and a tie; he, too, had the symbol of a Dragalge in the form of an insignia fixed on his lapel and also wore a dull look as he observed the newcomers with sleepy, red eyes and a mouth that hung half open.
Besides the Herdier and the Abomasnow was a younger-looking Glaceon, who wore a beige cloak with many fine jewels also embedded into it. The cloak had the symbol of an Eevee.
One of empty chairs was in the center, the Throne of Rectitude, which was meant for the ruler of Tollen to sit. It was made of pure white marble and was elevated by a small set of stairs to overlook the other seats. Very few 'mon besides the royalty would ever have the unique privilege of sitting upon this throne. On the other side of the throne was an Ampharos, clad in emerald armor, and an Escavalier, with armor split in color between brown and emerald. The last seat at the end was also empty. There were various guards also beside and behind the nobles and military sitting in their chairs. The same Arcanine from Marrow's Manor stood beside the Slowking, and various other Royal Knights were positioned beside each of the other dignitaries.
"Step before us, outsiders of Tollen," Lord Marrow stated to the group, gesturing toward the stand in the center of the room.
Joshua nervously glanced back to the others, as if waiting for their silent approval. Guardia nodded once, and Joshua returned the gesture. He took in a deep breath, mentally preparing himself for the task. The Swadloon did his best to chase away the anxiety that began to seep into his mind, putting on as brave a face as he could muster and taking his spot in the center. The rest joined him on the stand.
Lord Marrow examined the four 'mon as they made their way to the stand. He then glanced at his colleagues to his left, noting the two empty chairs. The Slowking sighed and nodded his head to a Mr. Mime on the side of the room. The Mr. Mime rubbed his neck out of pain or perhaps irritation, before he addressed the room.
"This assembly is now officially in session," The Mr. Mime uttered loudly. Any of the remaining nobility to the left and right of the chamber quickly quieted down. "Presiding over this discussion are as follows," The Mr. Mime turned to the seven chairs. "Representing the House of Ellia, Lord Marrow the Dignified."
Marrow stood up from his chair and gave a quick, curt nod to the rest of the nobility before once more sitting down.
"Representing the House of Durania, Lord Arron the Enduring," The Mr. Mime called out. At the call of his name, the Herdier with the Dragalge emblem hopped off his chair as well, before also sitting back down. The Herdier gave no nod or bow of respect, but instead examined the four 'mon on the stand with intensity. Thomas leaned into the group and whispered in their ears. "That has to be who Charlie and Obsidian ran into. Also, see that Abomasnow behind him? He's a mercenary, a freelancer. He usually works for the highest bidder, so perhaps he might be swayed to our side for the right price," Thomas explained.
"Representing the House of Jenoscent, Lord Caellen, in the absence of Lord Eirow the Stalwart, who is unwell," The Mr. Mime announced. The youthful Glaceon stood and bowed politely to the other nobility, before also sitting back down. Thomas leaned over to Joshua, Guardia and Anna and whispered in their ears. "I'm familiar with Eirow, but I've never seen Caellen before. I believe it to be the son of the head of the house."
"Representing the Guardians of the Borders, Deputy Commander of the Royal Knights of Tollen, Lady Elewyn the Proud, in place of Commander Darrell, who is ever-watching along our borders," The female Ampharos across the Throne of Rectitude stood and nodded her head politely at the others.
"Representing the Standing Army of Tollen, General Marcus Tyren the Sturdy," The Escavalier in the brown and emerald armor moved off of his chair and acknowledged the rest of the nobility with a small nod.
"Absent from this session will be Queen Aleena, ruler of Argime and the nation of Tollen, long may she reign."
"Long may she reign," The entire room of nobility repeated in unison.
"Also absent from this gathering will be Royal Com-"
The Mr. Mime was interrupted by the large front doors swinging open and then closing. "I'm here, I'm here," A voice uttered from the back of the room. Many of the nobles turned toward the direction of the doors and instantly the room erupted with loud whispering and murmuring. Thomas curiously eyed the seemingly excited nobility and then turned back to gaze at what they were all referring to. The moment he did, his mouth dropped to the floor and his eyes widened with shock.
"Sorry for the tardiness, my lords and ladies," The 'mon apologized. His upper body was covered by a bright emerald armor. In the center of the armor, there was a circular symbol with the three colors of Tollen (beige, brown and emerald) mixed in. He also wore a pair of beige trousers. This was all covered by a brown cloak over his body, with the same circular symbol on the back of his cloak. "I had a bit of trouble along the way back," He explained as he casually walked past the stand where the four Valkarians stood. He glanced over at them. "Got into a tangle with an old Mienshao. He was pretty dang tough for an older 'mon! But it was taken care of!" The Greninja exclaimed. He gave the group an ominous wink, then proceeded toward the rest of the chairs in front of the chamber. It appeared at first that he was going to sit at the empty chair at the end of the line of nobles and military leaders, but he casually walked past it and proceeded up the steps to the Throne of Rectitude. The Greninja settled into the throne and crossed his legs in a nonchalant disposition. None of the other nobles did anything to question his actions.
The Mr. Mime, who seemed mesmerized, as many others were, of the Greninja walking in that he had almost forgotten to announce him. He shook his head and cleared his throat, and his voice boomed once more across the large chamber in the palace.
"Representing the Royal Knights, Royal Commander Gabriel, the Savior of Tollen!" He stated loudly. The Greninja did not stand and acknowledge the rest of the nobility like the others. He merely relaxed on the throne, his eyes fixated on the four in front of him.
"Alright," Gabriel began, as he clasped his hands together and gestured to the four in front of him. "Looks like we're all here! Let's begin!"
The Thieves Spa Hideout
Snype and the other thieves had been moving through town while Obsidian and Sylvio were off doing whatever. He figured the best thing to do now was to go to this new hideout that Sylvio had mentioned. So that was their next destination. It was easy enough to find, what with all of the people screaming and just running out of it. Sylvio's work most likely. The bathhouse itself was pretty grand for what it was. Fitting for a thief hideout and if they had a share of the profits then that'd be even better! Snype walked right up the stairs and entered the building, searching around for Sylvio.
Snype made his way over to the spa. Considering all of the broken stuff, he figured that the two would be hanging around here somewhere. And just as he turned the corner the Sableye would be greeted to quite a sight. Obsidian was sitting in a bath, his clothes off to the side as a Goodra feverishly scrubbed at his body. Funny enough the dragon wore a face mask as she scrubbed, "Is the stench gone yet?" She asked as a Wartortle helping in the scrubbing took his mask off, took a sniff, and almost vomited as he quickly put it back on. "MORE SHAMPOO!"
Obsidian yelped as another bottle was poured out over his fur as the two used their scrubbers all over his body. "What did you do? Bathe in the sewers?" The Wartortle asked.
"Don't even go there!" Obsidian snapped. "I hate sewer levels."
Snype didn't catch the scent at all what with having no nose and all but the other around him would likely have a much stronger reaction. "Looks like you've been busy Obsidian. Does this have to do with all those people that ran out earlier?" Snype said with a chuckle.
Obsidian glared up over at the Sableye, "Not. Another. Word. This isn't the best night I've had."
"Sitting in a tub with two Pokemon scrubbing ya down? Could be worse. Keheh." Snype joked, though he figured it'd be better if he didn't ask what the heck Obsidian was doing just yet. He'd save it for Sylvio.
The bathhouse was almost empty now; the stench of the Skuntank's carcass was so horrible that it drew every would-be rich treasure hunters out in the street, where a couple of Pokemon were crying of gold they found in a new place. Meanwhile, as the Goodra rubbed the stink off of Obsidian, a certain elder Gastrodon showed up, seething (or so it seemed, it was hard to tell) and staring at the Weavile. He seemed to know exactly what had went on. "Wh-what did you do that for? I know it was you, you reek of Skuntank! Did the other Spas send you to chastise me for the digging?!"
At this time, before the Weavile could respond, Sylvio appeared outside the gates. "No Spa sent that child, Errol! I sent him. I had assumed you would want all these people off your property," the Delphox said sarcastically as he glanced around at the devastated spa, walking in carefully, as not to provoke any collapse. The bathhouse, once worth to be called a palace, was now in a terrible state of ruin: the gates were shattered, the expensive mosaic floor was cracked and the precious artifacts that adorned the walls and the shelves were now fallen and broken, trampled by the wild masses. Sylvio's smirk was priceless. He looked as if he was trying to hold back howling laughter at the fruits of his machination.
"Oh, Arceus," Errol wailed, "there you are, Messere! W-with all due respect, the expansion was not worth... this!! My esteemed business is ruined, violated! I shall live in poverty for the rest of my life... oh, my beautiful mosaic, destroyed! My greatly valued historical pieces, stolen, ravaged and defiled!"
Sylvio's ears twitched from all the wailing and he clenched his teeth in a forced smile, his annoyance not transparent. "Calm yourself," he said sharply, but his expression softened immediately afterwards. "I shall make it worth your while. Snype," he called out to the Sableye, as if he just noticed he was there, "have you been informed on what our take from the heist will be? I wish to donate my part to a certain spa, that will also serve as a thief's base of operations, and perhaps you should also do the same, as to please our friend here; we cannot hope to run a profitable operation in Tollen without ensuring that all the participants are satisfied." Sylvio was looking carefully at Errol as he spoke those words, knowing he would feel alleviated immediately and return to the state of mild servitude that he valued. Indeed, the Gastrodon settled down, but the Delphox didn't give him a chance to respond.
He walked past the baths, further into the caves, to observe the progress made by the diggers. His nose wrinkled at the smell and he looked up at the hole where Obsidian had thrown the Skuntank into the spa. With a victorious grin, he applauded the Weavile in the bath by lightly clapping the ends of his claws. "Well done, I say." Then he turned to the Gastrodon again. "Now, if we are to make some money together, friend, you would help us clean up and secure the new ground, so that we may at last proceed with the planning."
Errol narrowed his eyes in suspicion, perhaps wondering if he was just tricked into doing servants work, while moments ago he was contemplating on asking them to leave the spa.
***
The diggers hadn't gone very far into the rock for a few hours work, but the new area would serve as a decent temporary hideout which could always be expanded later. After they had cleaned it up from the dust and smell, Errol hid the entrance with a towel as a cover as Sylvio was producing floating candles from thin air to light the place. They'd brought in the torn pillows of the waiting room and the table from Errol's office - much to his dismay. The Goodra girl had somehow fallen asleep, drooling against the wall and Sylvio assured them she'd remember nothing of what was said come morning. Errol was off to gather his servants and start rebuilding the spa while the company of thieves stayed in their new hideout.
Sylvio was sitting cross-legged on his levitating pillow, as if it was a cloud, with the candles floating around him, shedding their light in the narrow cave. On the table he'd placed the map of Argime. "So," he started, "presently, we are finely established in the city, after the little fiction I carried out. What should be our next move?"
Snype sat down crossing his legs. He was very impressed with the work that had gone into making a proper hideout. After a bit of cleanup, it'd be a great spot to keep for the future... at least for the lower district. He'd have to set up shop in the higher districts as well. But that was for later.
"Well first things first. We need to go to the Raegal Center first thing tomorrow morning. Thanks to what happened at the palace, things have been delayed for us unfortunately. And I don't know what this will mean for the diplomatic team. Their negotiations are going to be alot more difficult. Or if anything, this Brotherhood will be blamed and start being searched for. I'd like to get in contact with them before anything bad happens. I was considering scouting the area out tonight and returning to get some proper rest and all of that." Snype said.
Obsidian nodded, "On top of that, a potential search for any seekers could also bring in some more information. We could learn a bit about this brotherhood before we even meet them. We could, at the least, learn basic information such as rumors or perhaps learn who leads them. That way we aren't surprised as much when we do eventually meet with them." Obsidian frowned, "At least, that's my two cents."
"Well in that case we'll need someone to handle that. I have to arrive to assist with the job. I never mentioned how many of you I'd bring along so we're open to multitasking and having outside information just in case." Snype said.
"All of you get some sleep. I'll scout ahead and see if I can't catch some information or some blind spots or anything. I'll meet you all at the Raegal Center first thing in the morning so don't oversleep!" Snype said as he was quick to head out the door.
Snype - Argime, Tollen - Another piece
Argime was a crowning jewel of cultural and physical beauty. But the lower levels were just as bad as the slums of any major city. The buildings were older, less looked after, and crumbling. None showed that more than the Raegal Center. Having not been in use for over a hundred years now, the library seems to be standing on its last legs. Few have interest to go inside anymore, and architects neglect its maintenance. However, whenever a commission is made to get rid of the building to construct something new and modern, the palace has strangely belayed the order. In recent years it has all but been forgotten.
The one interesting aspect of most slums in the world is their overpopulation, which often has led to other issues of starvation and health problems from the citizens. Taking a look at the area around this part of Argime, one would notice quite a notable amount of buildings seem to be abandoned. The streets are not exponentially overcrowded in all areas, although there is a sizable amount of 'mon around.
Beside the Raegal Center, a Monferno was in the process of waking up a Sableye. "Hey, you alive?" The Monferno asked, kicking at the seemingly homeless Sableye lightly in the stomach.
Snype quickly snapped awake, thanks to detect. He reached out to grab the Monferno's foot before it'd even make contact with his stomach. He'd stare for a moment before regaining his senses. "...Ah, morning. Figured I'd get a nap down here. Sorry about the sudden reaction, I kinda have a bit of protection when sleeping out in the open like this. Ya know. no home and all." Snype explained.
The Monferno shrugged. "Well, it's good to see that you're alright," He began to say. "For a minute, seeing a 'mon lying there like that on the street brought some... not so pleasant memories," He seemed to be thinking on something in his mind, as if it were being replayed to him. He shook his head and looked back at the Sableye. "How are you homeless? There's a lot more room to move into ever since... well, ever since a few months ago. More homes than 'mon in some cases. And they've got shelters too for group homes."
"Ah... well I was told to meet up with a buddy around here so decided to take a nap around here." Snype said, being careful not to mention the job to this stranger. Of course... maybe she was part of the operation. Who else would just wander all the way into the abandoned building? "Heh, well I'm a guy who likes to keep independent around here. I've wandered into the shelters a few time but I tend to have more thrills just living out here in the city on my own." Snype said. Being asked questions while he was half awake. The Sableye had a bit of a disadvantage here.
"So uh... who are you anyway? What brings ya all the way here?" He asked.
"Makes sense, I guess," The Monferno concluded about Snype's explanation. "Oh, sorry about that," The Monferno extended his arm both to shake and to help the Sableye onto his feet. "Names Popous, I live just around the corner from here. I was just on my way home when I saw you. Who meets a friend over here? I figure best place to meet up would be the Pit or something."
"Yeah I made a couple buddies there earlier. But ya know. Sometimes its difficult to keep a conversation going without being distracted by the crowd. Nice and quiet here ya know? The abandoned part is also a nice touch. A small sense of adventure and all." Snype replied.
Popous smirked and nodded. "I hear you. Sorry if I seem a bit intrusive, I just got out of the standing army a few days ago, so I'm not exactly used to civilian life yet," He explained with a shrug.
Standing army...Right... the folks in Tollen were required at least two years of military service. If they performed well enough they'd return to civilian life. Otherwise they go to the borders and become "hellguards" as they're called. "Nah its fine. Makes total sense to me. At least you got through it all right? Probobly wouldn't be too fun out at the border! Ah, my name is Aden by the way. A pleasure." He added.
"Aden, nice to meet ya," Popous said with a nod and a smile. "Yeah, but to be honest, I was kind of looking forward to joining the Royal Knights. I thought I might have performed well enough to do so, but I guess the Savior didn't think so. I was really looking forward to making a difference..."
There was that name again. The Savior. He still had no idea what species the Savior was. Of course, not alot of folks managed to get a good look at him. "Ya know, I've never been able to see the Savior in person... if he's around, the crowd is usually too large for little ol me to see! What species is he if you know? From what you said, sounds like you had quite the honor to see him yourself! Color me jealous! You look like you could fit right in with the Royal guard. Ya seem like the fighting type anyway... pardon the pun."
"You know, I get asked that a lot," Popous said with a chuckle. "A lot of 'mon think he's a Ditto or a Sceptile. I've heard everything from Blaziken to Shuckle. He's actually a Greninja. But its more than that. There's a presence about him that's hard to explain. We all know the rumors, but he seems much more easy-going than he's made out to be. But every action he takes has a purpose behind it. At least, that's what I felt the few times I saw him," Popous explained with a shrug.
"You know I heard he was born in the slums too? Just on the bottom of the third hill of Argime, by the Tropius swamp."
At first, Snype just kept calm when a Greninja was mentioned. He immediately thought of gabe but that would be insane. Then he mentioned how easy going this Savior was. That just reminded him of Gabe again. It couldn't be... could it? If Gabe was the savior then something serious was happening up with the diplomatic team.
"I see... thanks I can sleep easier knowing that now. Guess I'll know who to look out for if he's in town! I hear all he has to do is touch somebody and he can perform some serious miracles... probably a rumor though. I don't know the exact method he uses." Snype said, remembering how Gabe had taken out Paradox.
Popous chuckled again. "As much as I like the idea of leaving in the minds of the citizens that he did something like that, I heard he stopped the Reckoning in a more practical and scientific manner. But don't let me ruin your image of him! However he did it, the entire country is in his debt," Popous looked around and shook his head. "Well, I'd better get going. Lots do to. I'll see ya around, Aden!"
"Right see ya around." Snype said as he got up onto his feet. Hell of a way to start the morning. Gabe was the Savior? what'd that mean for the thieves? Was Tollen already under control by Darkrai? He had to be careful with who he trusted...
Guardia, Watchman, Thomas, and Anna - Argime, Tollen
Thomas was still in shock by the revelation of Gabriel. His mouth was completely dry and his feet were shaking, which he was thankfully able to conceal through his cloak. He still had trouble grasping Gabriel's role in Gold City, but now this? He contemplated what to do now. Was it all over for them? Was everything for nothing? Did Marrow simply lead them here to be captured or killed? He examined the room, looking first toward the body of nobility standing to the left and right of the stand. Quite a few of them were still quite excited and in awe of the Greninja's presence. After hearing what the thief team relayed about this 'savior', he could see that Gabriel was held in very high esteem here.
Thomas then glanced over to the others sitting around Gabriel. Surprisingly, theirs was quite a different temperament than those in the body of nobles. The young Glaceon seemed visibly nervous beside Gabe. It wasn't a situation of jittery adoration either, but something closer to… fear. Lord Marrow also seemed somewhat displeased as he eyed the Greninja with discomfort and grimace as he sat upon the Throne of Rectitude. Lord Arron of House Durania visibly rolled his eyes when the Mr. Mime announced the Greninja's title. Thomas didn't see as strong reactions from the two military leaders, but he secretly hope that maybe, just maybe, the situation wasn't all entirely hopeless.
"Don't mention Cresselia," Thomas whispered to Guardia, Joshua and Anna. "Not yet."
"You have the floor, outsiders of Tollen," Lord Marrow gestured to them with his hand, waiting for them to speak.
Annabelle was caught off-guard by what Thomas whispered to them. What reason did they have not to mention Cresselia? It seemed counter-intuitive, but... She would follow along for now.
"Royal Commander," Anna began for the group, "we've come to request help from you and your troops in the battle raging in Gold City."
The entire room enveloped into whispers and murmurs. Lord Marrow cocked an eyebrow at the group, while Gabriel leaned back in the throne and crossed his arms.
"Battle?" The younger female Ampharos Elewyn, who sat on Gabriel's left side, questioned. "What battle?"
"My Lords and Ladys of Tollen," Thomas began, trying his best to avoid any eye contact with Gabriel. "Less than a week ago, Valkaria was attacked by a ruthlessly well-trained army. They attacked without warning or reason, and even now, the Gold City is under siege, trying to hold off the enemy."
The room continued to buzz with murmurs and whispers among the nobles.
"Who attacked you?" Lord Arron of House Durania asked the group.
"The soldiers and sentinels lead by Darkrai thirty years ago, my lord," Annabelle answered the noble. "Their numbers are overwhelming and even Darkrai himself is present with them."
The room went into an uproar as soon as Darkrai was mentioned. The nobility had different reactions. Some of them shrieked at the name in surprise, most others scoffed or laughed as if it were a jest. A few others continued to murmur and chat among themselves. Lord Marrow looked at the ground and shook his head. The Glaceon of House Jenoscent cocked an eyebrow in surprise at the answer. However, Lord Arron continued to gaze upon the four outsiders as if he understood the gravity of the situation. Deputy Commander Elewyn opened her eyes in shock. Gabriel continued to look on in relative silence, his expression not changing much. The Mr. Mime cleared his throat as Lord Marrow motioned to him to calm the crowd.
"My Lord and Ladies, please calm yourselves!" The Mr. Mime urged. The crowd of nobles slowly began to quiet down.
"Truly?" Elewyn questioned, her expression still expressing one of shock. "So then it is as you have been saying before." Elewyn looked to Guardia, who nodded back to the Ampharos.
Lord Marrow sighed deeply, then spoke. "Do you have any proof of what you saw?"
"No," Anna answered, shaking her head. "The only proof I could show to you all is to take you to Gold City for you to see for yourselves, but a trip like that would be too dangerous to allow. The only thing we can provide is our word and faith that you will believe us."
"Your word is not enough to go on to believe that a legendary, mythical being is attacking your nation," Lord Marrow replied harshly.
The third noble, the younger Glaceon, chimed in for the first time. "If you had perhaps some proof... something to give that could show that what you say is true..."
"Does it really matter?" Lord Arron asked the other two nobles. "It is obvious that this isn't the issue at hand. It could very well be that Darkrai is attacking Valkaria. Or it could be another force or entity entirely. Perhaps Karn or another force. However, it doesn't change the fact that they are under siege by a powerful opponent."
"Do we know that really, Lord Arron?" Lord Marrow questioned the Herdier. "The very fact that they mention Darkrai leaves me to question the validity of this 'invasion'," Marrow replied, providing airquotes to his last word.
"Do you really believe they would come all this way to a nation in our..." Lord Arron paused for a moment, most likely to choose which words to say next, before he continued. "... predicament for nothing? I think it is without a doubt that they are in some form of attack."
The Deputy Commander gestured to the Zangoose Guardia. "Would the Gold Tribe leader herself come all this way if it weren't anything else? I think we should hear them out."
"We don't have the troops to spare," The Escavalier General Marcus Tyren butted in with his harsh, metallic voice. "Our forces are needed here after the Reckoning. In fact, having them here in the first place is dangerous. Who knows what contaminants they bring with them? What if it all begins again because of this?" He questioned. The response from the lesser nobility following this showed some panic and worry. Some even looked at the group with anger.
"I think if they would have brought it with them, we would have noticed," Lord Arron commented. "Besides, if anything were to happen, we do have the antidote here," He explained, gesturing to Gabriel.
"That's hardly the point at all, Lord Arron," Lord Marrow replied with a slightly annoyed tone in his voice. "Whether or not the Reckoning has past or not, it doesn't change the fact that because of it, we have established laws! These laws forbid the passage of 'mon into the country, and also prevents the passage of our own citizens out of the country. It is not such an easy thing to simply abandon our sacred laws simply because the situation can be a bit more flexible."
"Lord Marrow, was it not you who brought them into the city in the first place?" Lord Arron questioned the Slowking.
"I had received Thomas Blake's message, and made what I thought was the correct decision. From the desperation he wrote, it became apparent that one way or another, he was planning to utilize the Network or another method to sneak into the country. Should I have let them and those golden hooligans do that and cause an even larger incident? No! I let them travel through the Network and they were instantly met with my guards and escorted to my manor. They were monitored along the way the entire time and instructed not to speak with any citizen. When they arrived, I had them be locked up under house arrest and were further monitored the entire time while I arranged what I would be a trial to secure their expulsion from Argime. In essence, they were locked up the moment they stepped foot in Argime!"
"That's a very liberal interpretation of your power, Lord Marrow," Lord Arron commented.
"I did what was best for Tollen, as I've always done," Lord Marrow replied sternly.
"How can you even say this?!" Deputy Commander Elewyn yelled from her seat. "The Reckoning was awful, terrible. But what we did, closing our borders and cutting ourselves off, we did that so that the other nations, our allies and friends, wouldn't suffer the same fate as us! That was the entire point of this! How can we turn our backs to an allied country over a law we created that was intended to protect our allied countries?!"
"Well, I'd hardly call us allies anymore, Deputy Commander," General Tyren shot back. "We have abandoned all alliances and trade agreements. And we have become stronger as a country because of it! Our economy has never been stronger, and the people are much happier. And most of all, we have had peace for over thirty years!"
"Yes, they seem very happy," Lord Arron said sarcastically as he rolled his eyes. "So happy that some have taken up to thievery and murder as acceptable passtimes."
"You know we are closing in on the Brotherhood, Lord Arron," Tyren responded in his metallic voice. "Don't bring them into this debate as if they deserve to be here."
"...What if it really is Darkrai, though?" the Glaceon Lord Caellen questioned the others in a fairly soft and quiet tone. He almost seemed nervous to be up there with the rest of them. "Like what if they really are fighting against him there and now? What happens if he wins and comes for us next?"
"That's far too big an if, Lord Caellen," Marrow responded. "If your father were here, he would agree with me that this is ludicrous to even suggest. It didn't make sense when the Gold Tribe first brought it before our chambers, and it doesn't make sense now. Ever since we've known those foul ones from Valkaria, it's been nothing but trouble for us!"
"Commander Gabriel, we have not heard your opinion on the matter, really," General Tyren said as he looked at the Greninja. "Do you agree that they should have no business being here in the first place?"
Gabriel looked over at the Escavalier General, and then back to the four 'mon in front of them. He leaned back in his chair, as he placed on hand on the arm of the throne and tapped on it lightly, as if to debate on what to do. "I agree," He finally said, which caused the Escavalier's face to light up. "With Lord Arron, and the Deputy Commander," He continued. The Escavalier looked over to the Greninja in shock and confusion, as did Lord Marrow and much of the lesser nobles. "They are clearly in a position of distress. What kind of hosts would we be to deny at least to hear them out?"
"W-what? But... but... Royal Commander..." General Tyren began to whine.
"I would hardly call us hosts in this position, Royal Commander," Lord Marrow grumbled.
"Regardless, I feel we should at least hear them out," Lord Arron stated, looking over to Gabriel before continuing. "Individually," Gabriel also looked at the Herdier and cocked his head. "Because the Queen is not present, we don't have the authority to lend aid from every section of our forces, but we each can make the choice to provide aid should we choose to. Let's put it to a vote."
"If it must come to this, then I propose the vote to entail whether we allow them to stay in Tollen or be expelled immediately!" Lord Marrow stated.
"I think that's acceptable," Gabriel replied with a nod. "Everyone cool with that?" He asked around. The others nodded in agreement as well. "Go ahead and call the vote, Rup."
The Mr. Mime cleared his throat and his voice boomed across the palace once more. "The High Lords of Tollen will now vote in the absence of Queen Aleena of Tollen. All those in favor of expelling the outsiders of Tollen immediately?"
The Escavalier General Marcus Tyren raised one of his lance-arms. Lord Marrow glared at the group in front of him. His eyes moved from Thomas and Anna, before moving to Guardia and Watchman. A scowl appeared when he looked upon the Gold Tribe members. He rose his hand.
"All those in favor of allowing the outsiders to remain and hear their case further?" The Mr. Mime asked. Lord Arron of House Durania rose his hand immediately, as did Gabriel and Elewyn. The younger Glaceon lord hesitated for a moment, but also rose his hand. "The vote is four to two. The outsiders will be allowed to stay."
"Alright, great!" Gabriel exclaimed, clasping his hands together. "Ready them some rooms in the palace, if you can. We can set up some private meetings throughout the day," Gabriel hopped off the throne and proceeded toward the side of the chamber. "I'm a bit beat from my trip, so I'll see you all later. Good chat!" The Greninja exited the chamber through the side door.
"Well..." Lord Arron began, looking from where the Greninja exited and then back over to the four Valkarians. "I assume this will be satisfactory for now?" He asked them.
"Absolutely, sir," Anna answered with a respectful bow of her head as relief flooded through her wool. Their chances were getting steadily better. Hopefully it would stay that way. "You have our utmost gratitude."
"Meeting is adjourned, then," Lord Arron declared. "When you are settled into your rooms, I will see you. Until then." The Herdier hopped off his seat and also proceeded out of the room. The rest of the nobles did the same, with General Tyren glancing angrily at the group, while Elewyn gave them a quick nod.
Once the nobles had left the room, Annabelle turned to her group. "So what's our next course of action?" She asked everyone with a smile, happy with their current success. After a moment, though, she looked over at Thomas. "And why are we holding things back now?"
Snype, Charlie and Obsidian - Argime, Tollen
The thief team had gathered around the Raegal Center just as the sun began to rise in the sky. 'Mon were already beginning to wake up and leave their homes to go to work. The streets were beginning to become quite busy. Most 'mon rushed past the thieves as they drew near. For the moment, nobody seemed interested in them. That is, until a Spinarak poked his head out of a crack in the doors of the Raegal Center.
"Psst!" The bug whispered to the group. "You guys with Aden?" He asked. The Spinarak constantly looked around to the left and right to ensure no one else was watching.
Obsidian looked over at the bug, suddenly feeling rather odd when no one spoke up. He could say something... but would that mark him as the speaker for the group then? He hoped not.
"Yeah." He said simply as he too looked about, "Standing out here for too long might draw unneeded attention. Can we please come in now before a guard wanders by?"
"Huh... there's mora ya than I thought... come on, we're all here," He replied, opening up the doors to the Raegal Center and allowing the rest of the thieves to enter. When they did, they would see what appeared to be an old library that looked even worse on the inside than the outside. Half of the place was ripped apart. Books were torn up and scattered throughout the place. Bug 'mon were rooting in the corners, making the place their home. There were many other books that were lined up across bookcases, though they appeared to be dusty and old, as many were probably not touched in quite a while.
In the center of the room, the Spinarak took the thieves to three other 'mon: There was the owner of the Pit, Roran, who was wearing a cloak of similar fashion as the Tollen citizens, but it was black in color. There was also a Houdour in a similar outfit, who grinned at the thief group when they arrived, and a Bisharp who glared at the group with some intensity.
"Alright, you're all here," Roran began. He eyed the rest of the group with Snype curiously, then turned back to the Sableye. "A bit more 'mon than I was expecting Aden, but that just means the job'll be that much easier. But it also means the loot'll be split up more. You best be good with that, cause we're givin' you and your people the same as we would any other," Roran explained. He then gestured to the other 'mon with him. "This here's my people: Joseph and Stretch," He explained, pointing to the Spinarak and Houndour. He then gestured to the Bisharp. "This is Creed. He's from... an interested party. He'll help you out on the job as well."
Obsidian nodded, "Well, we best get introductions out of the way. I'm Weavile. Yeah, not my real name, but it's far better than someone trying to quickly memorize my name from one saying, getting it wrong, and causing all sorts of confusion. So Weavile will suffice for now."
"I've met most of you, but my name is Aden. Looking forward to some good results." Snype said, mostly to reassure everybody the thieves that was supposed to be his name. He eyed the Bisharp nearby. An interested party. That honestly could mean anything. He figured he would just roll with it as usual.
Charlie let away a quiet sigh. 'Interested party' didn't tend to make for good news. Still, if Snype trusted them, he could trust Snype, although he was still a Thief. He wasn't going to give away any real names. "I'm Will, an' I'm a lootaholic." Charlie smiled a ittle at his joke, and hoped the others would pick up that he wasn't going to reveal his name either.
"Alright then," Roran took out a rolled paper from his cloak and placed it on the ground. "Some light, Joe?" He asked the Houndour, who obliged by firing off a small bit of ember at some nearby ruined books. This brightened the area enough to show the contents of the paper. "So here's the deal. As you all know, the Royal Knights are set up all across the exits and gates of Argime. Keepin' 'mon in, keepin' 'mon out, you know the deal. But they're there every hour of every day. Which means about once every few weeks, they need some fresh supplies brought to them so they don't starve, or die, or whatever. Now, it's stupid to take the supplies when it's leavin' from the knight quarters in the upper city, or from the palace. And there's no way we're riskin' tryin' to take it from them when it already reaches the Royal Knights at the borders. In case you didn't hear, the knights guarding the ins and outs of the city are the strongest in all of Tollen."
Roran pointed a finger on the roll of paper, which showed a map of the area. One path was marked up in red. "This red line shows the path they're gonna take. We know it because we watched the last two dropoffs and they took similar paths. So what we're gonna do, is hit 'em on the road. After they take the supplies outta their bunkers but before they reach the gates. Everyone clear so far?"
Obsidian nodded a bit as he looked at the path, "How many guards are there usually? Any specific ones that we'll need to really look out for?" He asked.
"Usually about four," Roran replied. "But, I wouldn't really worry about them. Some Royal Knight just ain't what they used to be, and they usually put the newest recruits on any sorta guarding duty."
"What happens if the plan falls through? Any specific meeting place we'll head to? Or will we just scatter?" The Weavile asked.
"An' more," Charlie added, "What if they ain't all where ya think they'll be. Say they got wind 'a this plan an' know we're comin'?"
"If sh*t goes down or we don't like what's happenin', Stretch here will weave a special silver web that'll be visible in the sun. He'll shine it on ya and you head out, and get back here. I don't expect we'll run into anything too nasty. I mean, that thing that happened in the palace was strange, but who'll beef up security on a shipment for mostly food?"
"Somemon that knows that food's goin' somewhere important." Charlie returned, in an almost uncharacteristic manner of fact. "Gotta make sure ya bases are covered."
"Well if that's the case you don't strike first." Obsidian countered. "If their security IS beefed up there's a way around that. Whenever someone is close to finishing work and it looks like nothing bad is going to happen, what do they do? They end up trying to hurry it up. If there are many guards out there we simply follow them along, don't alert them in anyway. Once they get closer to their destination and see no one is upon them they start to relax more. Cautionary glances around become less, and that's when we strike. If that happens to be the case."
"Hmm... that's riskier," Roran replied with a paw to his chin. "But if that's the way you lads wanna go about this, I don't mind. Creed here was actually gonna see what your opinions were anyway," He explained, gesturing to the Bisharp. "Sketch, Joe, you fine with that?"
"I dun mind, boss, as long as they don't screw up!" The Spinarak replied with a grin. The Houndoom barked and nodded.
Roran nodded to the both of them and then turned back to them. "Well then. My plan was an ol' classic. Distraction in the front of their caravan, while the rest either take the supplies quiet-like or take out the guards, then get out. Simple, but it's worked plenty of times in the past. What about you guys?"
Snype considered the opinions of both parties. He'd personally perfer something quick and quiet. Something was on the back of his mind though. If Gabe knew that a Sableye was roaming around town, then he would quickly catch on to Snype's identity most likely unless he wanted to keep toying with folks. It distracted him from actually devising a plan himself. He had scouted out the whole location earlier after all but didn't spot anything interesting other then the layout.
"Lets see what happens first. Scout how they're set up. It would be good to see if security is beefed up for this shipment before acting out too early. If there isn't alot of guards then we'll go with the usual plan. Otherwise we can give Weavile's a shot or come up with something from there." Snype said.
"Good thinkin', lad, and already on it," Roran replied. "I got my third 'mon, Jeice scouting out the shipment. It already left this morning, but it'll be a while before it get to the killzone. We should be getting word any minute now."
"Mind if we ask who Jeice is? Species wise?" Obsidian asked. "Just so we all know each other at least by looks. No use going out there and accidentally attacking your third member if he gets too close." He gave a weak shrug.
"He'll be comin' here in a bit anyways, so I doubt you'll hit him on the field, but he's a Murkrow. Resourceful lil guy, I'll tell ya now. Been my eyes in the sky for as long as- oh, here he is now!"
As if on cue, a Murkrow in a brown shirt flew in from one of the damaged windows as the top of the room. He swooped in and circled the place once as he scanned who was gathered around the burning books, before dropping down beside Roran. "Four guards on the shipment, boss. A Sandslash, Crawdaunt, Delibird and Garchomp. They're using two knights and two standin' army soldiers, looks like."
"Could be running low on troops. Or maybe General Tyren's gettin' paranoid," Roran thought out loud. "Doesn't change anything. Like I said, it's four standard guards and the shipment. Anything else you noticed, Jeice?"
The Murkrow shook his head. "Everything else seems clear and prime to me. Shipment's a bit larger than usual too, which is good!"
"Did you check the surrounding area? If they're smart, then more knights could be hiding in alleys from a distance or something waiting for an ambush... just a thought. I don't wanna come off as paranoid or anything but its happened before." Snype added.
The Murkrow cocked his head at the Sableye then replied. "I know how to do my job, 'mon," He said sourly, before giving them a grin. "No one's following along with 'em except for the occasional curious kid. You're all set."
Obsidian nodded, "You seem like a good scout. I like that. Alright, no others there then. Should we pair off while there?" He asked. "Not sure how you do things, but if we have two guys watching each other's backs, it usually goes smoothly."
"Well, if we go with my plan, then we can have two guys on each side. Two in front of the caravan, maybe one pretending to be injured while the other cares for him. Or maybe ya can fake gettin' hit or something. Whatever. It probably has to be one of you three though. Since you're all two-legs instead of multi-legs like my boys. Likely the rich pr*cks'll care more for a two-legs to bother to stop."
Obsidian thought on that then nodded, "I can do that. Here's what we'll do." He pointed at the Houndour, "You're with me. We'll find an alley way and you'll pretend to be injured. I run in front of the caravan and say... oh, some muggers jumped my friend and I. At that point maybe one or two of the guards leaves. We can dispose of them there. That leaves only two others for your four to take care of. A surprise in the alleyway should really throw them off." He said with a smirk.
"Ya think they're gonna care if ya just tell 'em yer friend got hurt? Ya gotta make sure they can't ignore sh*t, at all. If I was a rich f*ck, I wouldn't put my abdomen on the line fer some poor bastard I just heard about, even if it's my job." Charlie said. "Somemon's gotta get hurt where they can see it. I could be the mon ta do it too, I can leave pretty shallow cuts'll bleed a lot without doin' any real harm."
"Then it's gotta be either you or you," Roran said as he pointed to Obsidian and Snype. "To get cut. Gotta be a two-legs, just so the chances are higher. But I'm also thinking that since they might hate us four-legs, maybe one of us should be the one to cut them. So if they won't come over to help, maybe they'll come over to beat the sh*t outta another four-legs," Roran explained with a chuckle.
"I can take it." Obsidian stated. He held out his arms and sighed, "Just find a spot and cut. I trust your men." He said with a nod to Roran's group. "Whoever really wants to."
Snype was a bit nervous about Obsidian taking on this task. Especially direct harm to himself. At the same time he'd need to be around. That and he didn't know these people yet. One of his men randomly going off to get wounded by one of these Pokémon just didn't feel right.
"Weavile don't. I'll handle being the bait." Snype said. "A smaller fellow like me would look more helpless anyways.
"Y'sure 'bout that boss? Yer puttin' a load 'a faith in these mon fer guys we just met." Charlie looked at Snype questioningly. "No offense guys. But I can't throw my trust in guys I just met. I'm more comfy lettin' somemon I know dish out hurt, 'specially since I know I can do it without leavin' real damage."
Obsidian remained where he stood, "It's a trust exercise." He said simply, "Surely we aren't going to head out with mon we don't trust?" He said as he flashed a smile back at Snype, "No worries Aden, I can take a lot of punishment. My... dad taught me well enough. Besides, you'll need to be in top shape, you're the best out of us after all."
Snype crossed his arms to the Weavile. Charlie had a good point but right now he wasn't too comfortable about these two coming up with the plans for him after what happened last time. "Yeah. Both of those reasons are exactly why I should be the bait. Either way, I owe Roran here so we really don't have time to start doubting each other." Snype explained. "I'd like to think I'm a pretty convincing actor anyways! Wouldn't ya say?" Snype said with a subtle smirk to his crew.
Obsidian stared and slowly smiled, "Yeah..." He nodded, "Alright then Aden... if you want to you can."
Charlie shook his head. "I don't like it still, but it's yer call, Boss."
"Thank Arceus you're not stupid. It'd be stupid to trust anymon blindly," Roran explained. "Alright then, it's settled. Aden will be the bait. I'll have Joe here be your attacker. The rest of you can split into groups. If you prefer to stick your guys together, you can since you don't trust us, and we don't fully trust you. On the other side of things, I'd prefer to split us up in case... well in case something's not on the level. We'll each have leverage on each other."
"Then lets get right to work then. Everyone watch your backs. Both for friends and enemies alike." Snype concluded.
The shipping job... no not THAT kind of shipping!
The groups were all in position. Obsidian was positioned with Stretch in the alleyway on the left side. Charlie was beside Creed on the right side. Meanwhile Snype and Joe were both down the road a bit, waiting for the caravan to get into position.
"I'll bite ya after we get into it and that should get the guys running from there. Sound goodl?" Joseph asked the Sableye.
Snype nodded. "Sure thing. Try to make it hurt! I can act, but its better if its more realistic." Snype said with a snicker. He'd brace himself for the incoming pain. It'd be up to everyone else until he got over the pain afterwards.
Charlie didn't give his assigned partner-in-crime any words. The plan was in place, all they had to do was follow it, but he made sure the Bisharp was in his sight. At all times. The Bisharp gave Charlie no words in return. His eyes instead remained focused on the path from which the caravan would be heading down. It wasn't in sight yet, but Creed was focused on nothing else at the moment, aside from the occasional glances he gave to the other membpers of the shipping job.
Meanwhile Obsidian was just looking over at the spider and engaging in a small conversation to seem more natural, "So then, I have a secret tool in my inventory." He said with a shrug, "Should really help in getting rid of the guards." He looked about and rubbed the back of his neck, "I often find conversations are better for fitting into the background, you know?"
"Yeah, yeah makes sense," Stretch replied. "What tool's that?"
Obsidian grinned, "How about this. When things get hectic you can watch me use it. It's something... my father gave me." He frowned a bit and looked away, "It's good. I know how to make more as well. Spinarak silk can make it if you try hard enough."
The Spinarak nodded, and as he turned to observe the street again, he caught sight of the caravan in the distance. It had boxes stacked on top of each other, with a group of Tauros pulling it through town. Sitting on the bench of the caravan and controlling the Tauros was a member of the standing army judging by his half-emerald, half-brown armor, a Crawdaunt. To the left and right of the caravan were two royal knights, a Sandslash and a Delibird. Scouting out the back of the caravan was a Garchomp also in half-emerald, half-brown armor.
"There they are," Joseph whispered to Snype. "Let 'em get a bit closer."
Snype nodded, keeping an eye on both Joseph and the rest of his surroundings. He had detect prepared just incase something else were to attack him... just in case. He was ready to take the bite full on.
Joseph turned and walked casually across the street, before passing in the direction of Snype. As the caravan got within range, he feigned having an argument with the Sableye. "You'll pay fer whatya done to me, ghost!" The Houndour cried, and bit at Snype's neck with a Crunch. The blow was hard and his teeth sunk into his neck, but was held back enough not to be anywhere near lethal.
Snype had expected it to hurt but yeesh! Right in the neck. Thankfully it wasn't lethal but Snype would be feeling this one for awhile! Snype let out a loud cry of pain as he felt onto his knees, placing a hand over his bite Mark. "G-gyah!" He shouted out, making himself shiver to look more helpless. Blood was drawing from it as well.
Charlie cringed as he watched the scene unfold. He couldn't tell how bad Snype was hurt by the bite, but the neck was the very last thing he expected. He awaited the caravan's response, hoping against hope they'd act sooner rather than later, so Charlie could take action himself.
Obsidian meanwhile looked over and pretended to at least be somewhat interested in the fight, "Did that Sableye just get attacked!?" He asked his bug companion, trying his best to once more simply act like a commoner.
"He did!" The Spinarak replied. The reaction from the two as well as the rest of the 'mon around was noticed by the group around the caravan. The Sandslash and Delibird proceeded forward toward the two.
"Hey! What's going on here!" The Sandslash demanded. He raised his claws as he prepared to strike at the Houndour.
"Dang, the Garchomp's still by the loot," Stretch muttered under his breath.
Obsidian smirked at the Stretch though, "Hehe... let's say... that Garchomp is an old friend." He murmured as he reached into pack to put out some strings. "We'll wait until Aden and Joseph get to them." He whispered.
Snype couldn't really do too much. He was down for the count with his neck bleeding out just enough for him to feel dizzy. Not enough for it to be fatal however. All he could do his lay on the ground, looking severely wounded. "Ngh..."
"Time to get 'em on the blindside." Charlie whispered to Creed. "You take that Delibird. I got the Sandslash...." Charlie raised a claw toward Obsidian, giving a signal they were ready.
Obsidian smirked in turn, "You get the Crawdunt. String him down. I get the Garchomp." He readied his strings, "Ready... one... two... three." With that he quickly dashed, using his superior speed to leap up and upon the Garchomp's head. "Hey Garon." He murmured softly as his strings suddenly clung to the dragon's neck, tightening his windpipe as he pulled. "We're at a spa, find me in one." He whispered as he pulled even tighter, "And sorry about this." The Garchomp gasped for air and after a few more moments, collapsed on the ground.
"Let's go!" Charlie burst away from cover, making a beeline for the Sandslash, claws at the ready, he would attempt one of his most standard attacks - a U-Turn, with a blade at the Sandslash's legs, looking at gaps in the armor and an equally quick retreat that would clear him from a counter-attack.
Charlie's attack collided with the openings of the Sandslashes armor. He fell to the ground and clutched his knees, wailing away on the ground from the pain. The Spinarak jumped out of the alley after Obsidian and tackled the Crawdaunt off the caravan. The attack pushed him to the street, and Stretch began to fire off a series of string shots to wrap the 'mon up. When he was nice and tight, he headbutted him right in the skull, which caused the Crawdaunt to lose consciousness.
The Delibird turned around in surprise as his comrades were quickly taken out by the other 'mon who were in hiding. Joseph used this opportunity to strike at his back with a Flame Wheel. He then pounced on him and held him down. "Get the goods!" He roared to the others, motioning to the boxes on the caravan. The Spinarak proceeded to tie some sturdy webs around a few of the boxes and drag them away with him. His webs were surprisingly resilient and he was able to carry quite a bit more than it seemed.
Obsidian leapt away from the unconscious Garchomp as he managed to grab two boxes of his own and began to run along with the Spinarak, "Get moving!" He shouted to the others.
Charlie, seeing he'd incapacitated the Sanslash for now (and fully accepting his inability to carry boxes without hands), charged over to Snype instead. "Boss! Y'alright there?" He shouted to the stricken Sableye despite being right next to him.
Snype struggled to get onto his feet as his hand was on his neck. "I have a bite in my neck. Yeah I'm fine." Snype said sarcastically. "Is everyone out cold? Gimmie moment... haven't used this trick in awhile." Snype said as he gave off a small glow. The Sableye was using Recover to slowly heal up his wounds. He could only use it so often though as just using the move took a lot of energy out of Snype and worked slowly. At least he wouldn't be bleeding on the way back to base though.
"Well, uh... 'most everyone." Charlie glanced back at the Sandslash on the ground. "But none 'a them are gonna be causin' us trouble. Let's get ya outta here!" Charlie very carefully scooped the blunt ends of his claws beneath the Sableye. Carrying somemon like this as a delicate balancing act, so he daren't take off more than a couple of inches from the ground, but he was away and in the air.
Stretch and Joseph both began to take off with everything else they could carry. Joseph took one look back to ensure they got everything. "Alright, looks like... hey Creed, what are you doing?!" He yelled at the Bisharp. The Bisharp had jumped out of the alleyway and proceeded up to the Delibird. He grabbed him by the neck and sliced his throat open with his claws along his arms. He then walked over to the Sandslash in pain, who looked up at the Bisharp in fear. The Bisharp leaned down to the Sandslash. "Pray to your savior," The Bisharp whispered to him. He pressed the sharp end of his elbow to the 'mon's throat and sliced it. "Because he's not mine." Creed then got up and grabbed any remaining loot, and tailed the rest of the team.
Snype cringed when he noticed Creed go all out and kill the two soldiers. He didn't like one bit of that. "The hell just happened...?" Snype wondered. This was going to make things way more difficult now. He was never a fan of killing after his whole episode with the Silver Tribe. He'd have to discuss this with somebody. Killing wasn't part of the plan as far as he was concerned. "...blast it all. Why'd he have to go and do that?!"
"I don't give a f*ck, Boss. But I ain't lettin' 'im get away with it!" Charlie snapped back. "I gotta find somewhere ta set ya down, Boss."
"Will, don't act rash. We don't even know who this guy is. You'd just end up getting killed. He already has an advantage against your typing as is." Snype told Charlie. "I don't like it either. But we have to get out of the heat first. We'll figure out what the big deal is once we're in the clear. I'd rather not get caught in the middle of a murder scene! Gives off the wrong idea you know?"
Charlie's eyes narrowed at the Bisharp... but Snype had a point. "Dammit, Boss! We're goin' now, fine! But I'm not gonna watch this guy get away with it! I'll turn the f*cker in myself if I gotta."
"He... he f*cking executed them!" Stretch yelled from just behind Charlie, Obsidian and Snype. "Why did he do that?! We had a clean getaway!"
"It's... them, Stretch!" The Houndour replied. "He's with them. He has to be!"
"Roran will clear this up for us. Back at the spot," Stretch muttered. He took one glance back to see if the Bisharp was still following. He hoped Creed would veer off and head somewhere else, but the 'mon was still trailing behind with a few boxes in his arms. "He has to!"
Were they talking about the Brotherhood? It sounded most likely considering how brash he had acted. Creed was from an interested party... he didn't like where this was going, but it looked like Creed was going to be his main point of contact for the Brotherhood to get information on them. He didn't really have a choice. The diplomatic team would benefit greatly from that kind of information. This was turning out to be more difficult then he'd expected.
The team scurried into the Raegal center from every entrance they could find. Stretch found a way in through a crack in a window, though he dropped off the rest of his share through an opening at a higher point. Joseph burst through one of the side doors, followed by Stretch. They piled their boxes together and made their way to the center of the chamber, where Roran was waiting.
"Looks like you're all back," Roran greeted them. "All according to plan?"
Snype stepped in and gritted his teeth. "Oh yeah! All rainbow and sunshine! You wanna tell me what was up with Creed? He executed two of them! That wasn't part of the plan as far I've been told! Next thing you know we'll get traced right back here or somethin!" Snype shouted.
Charlie burst in seconds later, seemingly bloodoed but by fortune, only with his boss' blood. "Where's the f*cker? Let him explain fer himself an' if he don't give us a damn well perfect answer, turn the bastard in ourselves!"
"Calm down, cupcake," Creed replied, as he walked in through the side door and dropped his own set of the stash right beside the others. "I was just tidying up. Saved your foreign a*ses in the process."
Obsidian looked about at Creed, then he backed away quickly getting in front of Snype as he held up his claws defensively as another hand reached into his bag to bring out his invisibility stone, but instead he gripped it in his palm, "No sudden movements." He said, "This is a SEC fire bomb, one wrong move and I'll light this place up." He said. Obsidian had learned a long time ago from Penance just HOW to lie. It was the only way to get around the Golduck's strict rules. There was a certain way to show the emotions in your face, a certain way to shift your body to make it seem that you were spewing absolute truth. Hopefully these lessons were paying off now. Both the Spinarak and Houndour froze and panicked at the sight of the SEC bomb.
Snype froze up when he was called a foreigner, even more so when Obsidian jumped in and started to panic as far as Snype was concerned. "Weavile! Stand down!" He ordered.
"Now, now, let's all calm down here," Roran uttered as he held up his paws in protest. "I figured you were with SEC. That was my guess ever since you used the 'fire bomb' on the guard earlier to disappear. From Valkaria, right? I'm thinking we both are here for similar things," He explained. "When we heard about someone in town using SEC technology, we figured it was just someone from the palace using what the Royal Commander recovered. But that didn't make sense. Why use it on his own Royal Knight? So with the help of some... benefactors, we figured out that another group made it to the city from the outside. We stopped the Royal Knight from telling his superiors about the device used, which means as of now, no one else knows you're here. You're with them, aren't ya?"
Snype gave off a smirk. "...Keheheh. Oh Arceus it feels good to do that again! I knew you were a smart one. When I saw you chatting it up after I saved that kids butt I just had a feeling you already knew who we were! Doesn't really make sense to keep secrets anymore I spose. Yeah. We're from the outside. However, we aren't from SEC. Its a bit more complicated than that." Snype said.
Obsidian slowly lowered his 'weapon'. "We are allied with the SEC, yes." He said. "About a year ago Tollen cut off communications... and now stuff has happened back home. We entered Tollen to ensure it's safe." He frowned for a bit, then he stood up straight and carried himself like Penance had taught, "I-I am Obsidian, second in command to Penance Malum of the Seeker initiative sent into Tollen to discover why communications were servered and to help protect a third party that also arrived."
"The Madman?!" Stretch exclaimed, who had been cowering behind Joseph.
"The Seekers, huh?" Roran chuckled. "Good people. Penance wasn't always right in the head, but they seemed to be alright, I guess. I knew a Seekers once. Jerut was his name. Good lad. Got sent to the fronts from what I hear... " Roran's voice trailed off. He then cleared his throat and continued by pointing to Creed. "Allow me to clear a few things up. This job was intended to get supplies for the citizens here, but it was also a recruitment process. I pair up with Creed from time to time when I run into a few 'mon that I think he'd be interested in. When I heard from my source that you guys were possibly foreign, I wanted to confirm it myself. So this was killing three birds with one stone, basically," He explained.
"I took out the two Royal Knights because it's what we would've done," Creed explained. "That way, if anyone were to look at it, they could see just another act by my organization, while not drawing any attention to you or your other group. Leaving them alive wouldn't fit what we've been doing," He said as he walked over to the box of food and kicked it. "So lemme formally introduce myself. The name's Creed Orian, of the Brotherhood of Shadows."
"The Brotherhood?!" Stretch squeaked, his voice cracking up as he hid himself even further behind the Houndour's leg.
"An' this Brotherhood makes its way by killin' everymon standin' in their way?" Charlie heaved yet another heavy sigh. "No. No way, I ain't bein' nothin' ta do with this!" Charlie's breaths became heavier, the other mons around could even hear it. "I don't care what you did fer us. We can cover our own tracks, maybe it'd been a little hairer, but we'd 'a done it! And we'd 'a did it without spillin' blood that don't need ta be spilt!"
"Ease up!" Obsidian said to Charlie. He looked over at Creed, "... No information about Tollen has been released. All the info we have is saying that there is a whole lot of trouble outside of these walls and strange things going on. Why were the borders closed? Why are the psychics kept hostage here? Why did the queen end her relations with other nations?" Obsidian looked at Charlie, "Charlie, we NEED these answers. This is our mission right here. I know what he did wasn't right, but this mon here could be the source of these answers, someone who can help us in these walls."
"I can't trust a guy with blood on his hands! If he's willin' ta take lives, ya think lyin' to us ain't somethin' he'll do?" Charlie shouted back. "Boss, dammit! You've got my back right?"
"Dammit Charlie..."Snype said in his mind. "He does have a point. We're strangers to Tollen. We don't know a thing about the brotherhood or how they perform. I'd like to avoid getting stabbed in the back. I've been trying to get in contact with someone in your group ever since I arrived. I need to make sure that all that trouble won't get us killed in the end. Killing isn't exactly our thing back home." Snype said.
"Everyone's got blood on their hands," Creed replied coldly. "Can you all stand there and claim to have none?" Creed began. Snype remained silent on that fact. He had more blood on his hands then he was comfortable with. "But we don't just kill anyone. Only those that deserved to die. Case and point why we killed the two Royal Guards and let the soldiers from the standing army live. I'm not asking you to join us casually. But I am asking you to hear us out, and in turn we hear you out. It's clear both of us don't know the whole story of what's going on here," He stated. He turned to Roran and handed him a note, before turning around to leave. "Eye wants to meet up with you tonight. Roran'll give you the location. Show up, or don't. But both of us could accomplish our goals if we work together."
"In that case, I should formally introduce myself. Keheh. You can call me Snype. Just Snype. I hope I don't need to introduce myself further then that. That'd be pretty heartbreaking!" Snype said with a small laugh. He was genuinely curious how far his name had spread.
Obsidian nodded at Creed, "That... might be a bit of a problem. Well, I won't be there. Or I might be... depends." He sighed, "Look, we Seekers placed some... men before we left. Only a few, but I managed to contact one of them. If everything goes smoothly, he'll meet up at our hideout and be able to give us some things that have happened inside the palace possibly. He posed as a guard, so if he does show up, then that'll be valuable information." He explained.
Creed was already on his way out when he suddenly stopped in his tracks and turned around. His eyes were fixed on the Sableye, while Roran's eyes widened in shock at the revelation. Stretch's face visibly went pale as a sheet and he collapsed behind the Houndour. Joseph meanwhile was frozen in place.
"... Did you say Snype?" Creed asked for confirmation.
"Well I did say it was alot more complicated then just SEC didn't I? Yeah you heard me right." Snype confirmed.
"We're in a tricky position back home." Obsidian explained, "It's... it's caused every big organization to come together."
Creed continued to eye the Sableye curiously, only once moving over to the Weavile before again turning to Snype. "... Come to the meet spot tonight," He repeated. "If your contact meets up with you before then, you can pass us along the info he knows as well. Until then... " Creed jumped through one of the broken windows and took off down the street.
Obsidian watched as he went, then he turned to smile at the other three, "Uh... thanks for the good time and we'll be off!" He said with a simple bow of his head. "And... maybe you should get Stretch an ice pack?"
"Or a new heart," Roran replied sheepishly. "I'll be seeing you soon."
"I sure hope so. Sorry about making your friend pass out there. That's a first for me. Keheh" Snype joked.
"H-he'll be alright, Mr. uh... Snype sir," Joseph replied in a flustered manner. "Uh, hey... is it true you once robbed from a legendary?"
A legendary? Ohh boy the stories about him were spreading all the way to Tollen! He felt honored actually. "...Kehe, oh boy that story eh? That was one heck of a heist.. keheh. Hey it was a pleasure workin with ya too! Good job on the bite. Hope I didn't taste too bad. Kehe" Snype said with a small wink.
"Yeah it was a... oh! I can't believe I did that! Oh man... but wait it was apart of the plan... but... aww crap!" Joseph cursed under his breath. "It was an honor, Mr. King." Just then, Roran walked over to the Houndour and slammed him on the head with a cane.
"Enough idolizing, boy! He's got places to be and so do you! My dishes ain't gonna wash themselves!" Roran exclaimed as he headed for the door.
"Aww, but it's Stretch's turn, boss!" Joseph said as he picked up the Spinarak and headed for the door behind Roran. He gave Snype and the others another nod.
"I'll have my people give you the meet zone later," Roran said to Snype as they headed out the door, continuing his argument with Joseph. "And does he look like he's in an-" The door shut behind them.
The Second Spa Meeting
After the whole episode with the Brotherhood and the rest of Snypes new "friends", the thieves would eventually regroup back at the spa. Snype felt relived that he could go out as Snype the king of thieves, at least to those he was affiliated with. To civilians, he would remain as Aden just to keep his identity in check from Royal Guards. They still had alot of time before the meetup with the brotherhood and now Snype was left with a whole lot of nothing. He did want to have a one on one conversation with Charlie before the meetup however...
"Well, we have some free time to ourselves it seems. Once everyone is grouped up we can recap on whats going down." Snype explained.
Obsidian was deep in though, barely catching the last of Snype's words. "Huh? Oh yeah." He looked away, "I'm staying at the sap until my contact meets up with me there. I can't afford the miss the information he has. Look, if we finish before then, I can come with and help to share that information. If we're not done before then, just let the brotherhood know they can meet up with me later and I can give out the information I have." He said to Snype.
"Fair enough. Keheh. I could actually go for trying out these spas myself. I'm pretty damn sore from that bite still." Snype said, rubbing his neck.
"Didn't know the king of thieves was so sensitive." Obsidian said with a smirk, "Haven't you had far worse injuries?"
"Oh sure! But I usually don't let them happen to me on purpose! That Houndour had some nasty teeth! Keheh." Snype said, giving off a small crack in his neck. "Besides, how am I suppose to sneak around if I stink up the whole town? I'd say we all deserve it at this point. Just don't get too comfortable."
Obsidian shrugged and smiled at the sight of the spa before them, "So let's get the others up and we can discuss what happened."
Sylvio was floating upside down in the cave when they entered. His face lit comically and he shifted his weight so he was lying horizontally, leaning on his elbow. "Greetings, friends! What's our take?"
Obsidian smiled wide, "Well... it's quite a story. The details can be explained later, but there is an informant of the Seekers who will be arriving sometime today, so if any of you see a Garchomp wandering by or checking the spa out let me know. The rest of what happened, well Snype can explain it better."
"Basically, I don't need to hide my identity from the folks we're working with anymore. They took it pretty nicely actually. Keheh. There were some casualties though on the Royal guards, thanks to the Brotherhood but we're still unspotted by the higher ups thanks to their actions, as much as I don't like how they pulled it off." Snype explained. "Also I didn't mention this earlier, but I figured out something very interesting about this Savior fellow. Turns out he's a Greninja. Based on his description, it sounds alot like the Greninja that attacked Gold City. Gabe." Snype said.
"Hoho," Sylvio let out, "well, that must be him! I had a stand off with the fellow. His speed says much, but he is no match for me." The Delphox laughed. "And he is the Savior you say? I doubt that very much! He does not sound like the kind of person to save others."
"If it is Gabe, then I'm seriously concerned about the diplomatic team. They're probably having a discussion with him as we speak. It also means that if the Royal Guards happen to spot a Sableye roaming around town, then we're boned. I'll have to stay out of the open. So should you Sylvio, since you've encountered him before. This whole job is going to have to take a different approach."
Obsidian slowly turned to stare at Snype. "... The Savior... is Gabe." He said slowly, his hands balling into fists, "T-That Greninja? WHY DIDN'T YOU TELL ME EARLIER!?" He snapped as he gripped his red crest upon his head, "I fought him PERSONALLY! He knows who I am!" He cried out, "And I just spent all my time walking out there!" He held in his breath, and slowly let it out, "... Okay, I'm good." He said, "But an EARLIER warning would have helped."
"Well I only learned about it this morning. It couldn't be helped. Like I said, this whole operation is blind so these situations are bound to happen.. Besides, its only a hunch. I don't have any proof that its Gabe, only that the Savior is a Greninja. We should watch our backs nonetheless."
Obsidian sighed and rubbed his head, "Right. Okay, so far none of the royal knights know who we are. That's good. As long as we don't stick out we'll be fine. I mean, it isn't like Gabe just walked up to them and told them that he fought a Weavile and that they should investigate every Weavile in the entire city." He wiped some sweat from his brow, "Okay, I'll keep low then and wait here for Garon. Hopefully he isn't held back too much... I'm not sure if letting a cart full of supplies being robbed and letting your teammates die on the scene causes paperwork."
"Well, if we've got everything out of the way, I could go for trying out the spas here! Keheh" Snype said as he started to to head to the door to the spa. However a Ninjask chirped down to Snype just nearby while making his way in.
"Boss. I wouldn't get to comfy in there yet. One of the soliders is looking around the spa. Not sure what though. Pretty big dude though. A garchomp." The Ninjask informed
"Garchomp?" Obsidian asked, "Let me see him." He told Snype, "I can confirm if it's Garon or not."
"Gotcha." Snype said before turning back to the ninjask.
"Able is still scouting around the town. Anything you want me to pass on?" The Ninjask added.
"Lay low. Theres a possibility that the Savior is Gabe the Greninja. I can't confirm if he's aware of the Ninjask network but don't take any risks. Also..." Snype would explain all of the information he had gathered from the meetup, including the brotherhood and the current situation of the thieves.. The Ninjask chirpped back at Snype and flew off to quickly pass on the information.
Obsidian took in a deep breath and slowly came out from behind the curtain, making his way along as he spied the Garchomp. He forced himself not to smile as he came up to the soldier and looked up to him, "Hello sir. Can you come with me? We're doing some maintenance back here and one of our workers was injured."
The Garchomp's eyes looked upon the Weavile. The dragon's posture was inexplicable straight as he gave a small nod, "Lead the way citizen."
Obsidian gave a nod as he led the dragon back behind the curtain. As soon as they were secure the dragon was quick to salute. "Second in command Garon reporting for duty. I have been tasked with the objective of infiltrating Tollen's ranks to better secure a viewpoint on any situation to crop up within these walls. I have beens stationed for the past nine months, two weeks, and three days. I-"
"Garon don't be so formal." Obsidian said with a weak smile, "It's good to see you again."
"You too sir." The dragon said, not taking Obsidian's advice as he remained as rigid as he could. Obsidian gestured to the others, "Well, we're mostly thieves here, but of course you know the king of thieves himself. That's Kaveri, she's a Gold Tribe member, that's Sylvio, and... that's Charlie." Obsidian more along muttered up the last part. I will say this, start from the beginning as to what's been happening in Tollen. We have heard talk of some... reckoning. Can you explain that in full detail?"
"I'll start in the beginning, then," The Garchomp began as he thought back. "Approximately one year ago, I joined the standing army of Tollen, under the leadership of General Isabella Saena. I was drafted into the army, but at that point I was already a secret member of the Seekers. Penance explained to me that my identity as part of his organization should remain a secret so that I can effectively observe without being compromised. A less than a month after I joined, King Sofon died. It was stated to the other nations as a passing away of old age, but as I found out from my associate stationed in the palace, there was more to it."
The Garchomp paced with his claws behind his back and continued the story. "It was discovered the the King passed away from an illness he contracted while in the city. It affected him quickly and he died within a few days of the contraction. Then-Princess Aleena was contacted and returned to the capital from her studies to take over the throne. She became the Queen of Tollen at the young age of 16. But what most Pokemon thought was an isolated incident turned out to be more than that. More outbreaks of the same sickness seemed to be spreading across the city. At the request of the Queen's adviser, the matter was kept hidden so that it would not cause widespread panic. It was around this time that the Royal Commander at the time, Janos, requested to temporarily remove most foreign presences from the country. He did this to try and protect the citizens of Tollen from the disease if it was foreign in origin, but also to protect the 'mon of foreign countries in case the disease originated in Argime."
Garon stopped pacing and turned to the group again, with his claws still behind his back. "The official story released to everyone for this expulsion was 'population control', which made some sense as Argime was perhaps one of the most crowded cities in the world. The knights and soldiers then began to work to try and contain the disease. It didn't work. Royal Commander Janos soon fell ill to it as well and died. But another property began to surface from a very small portion of those afflicted. They began to scream and howl and go on a murderous rampage, killing everything that moved. It was like they weren't themselves anymore. Hundreds across the city were affected like this and were put down... but thousands were affected by the virus as a whole and were dying. Everyone thought that this was going to be the end of everything, of civilization itself, and so they called this plague the Reckoning."
Garon turned to each of the members of the thieves and cocked his head. "But it got worse. The odd thing was that some 'mon were immune to the plague, it seemed. Many nobility, born of higher families and which resided around the districts of the palace seemed to not be affected as much by the disease. No one could explain it, but what was the result was that the vast majority of the population assumed that the nobility was keeping the antidote from the population. It was completely chaotic everywhere. The citizens were rising up and preparing to completely destroy the nobility and Queen Aleena. Then... he appeared."
Garon began to pace once more. "The 'mon came forward and said that he had a way to save the city. He approached both sides in order to calm them, and then requested permission from the Queen herself to help save the city. The nobility were largely against this stranger doing anything, as they thought he was trying to cheat them, but he explained how he was able to devise a cure through the blood of the unaffected. And... it worked. He showed it first as a test, and then began to go around the city administering the cure. He went from every middle or lower class house affected and to every slum in Argime, and gave them the cures. He even gave one to me. If he hadn't... I probably wouldn't be here now. He saved the city. He probably saved all of Tollen in the process. The Queen, for his services to Argime, appointed him as the Royal Commander of Knights, and even gave him the priviledge of sitting on the Throne of Rectitude in her absence as a morality boost. The citizenry loved him and called him the Savior of Tollen. The nobility, although not liking the idea of this stranger coming forward, had no choice but to accept him, or else face the wrath of the adoring public. And so Gabriel sits, as Royal Commander of Argime."
Obsidian held up his hand right there, "... Garon." He frowned at the name and rubbed his forehead. He rubbed it a lot but sighed, "Garon... the psychics that have been held captive here. You managed to smuggle a letter out. We've been informed that half their number are held at the network point... but half are captives. At least, that is what we were told by them. Why are they hostages here? Surely if the disease is gone and can be cured the network points can be opened once more?"
Snype was in deep thought in the meantime. Either it was a coincidence, or this was infact the same Gabe who was allied with Darkrai. His suspicions were just about confirmed now.
"I'm sorry, I don't know anything about the psychics. The last Network was kept around was for back-up in case the Reckoning were ever to return. It would be a quick way to get out of the city just in case. However, it's normally operated solely by the Royal Commander to get to the fronts. The only way I was able to eventually smuggle a letter out to you was by being assigned as a guard to the Network. I requested it a bit after hearing that you were trying to get in contact with the Seekers. One of the psychics is an old friend, so he informed me through another contact, who I paid off."
Obsidian let out a long sigh and rubbed his forehead, "It makes sense now..." he said as he shook his head, "Listen... Garon. Try not to freak out. I... I know you joined us cause of what you say in Gold City all those years ago... so please remain calm. Darkrai is back. He appeared outside of Gold City and is currently attacking it. One of our newly elected generals... he was allied with him. Freely, his own free will. Not controlled like a sentinel. Darkrai didn't have ancients with him this time... it was other pokemon, pokemon who freely and gladly teamed up with him. I... I met a Greninja in the city. He attacked Penance and myself and last I know of he was fighting Scar. He tried to destroy every network point there. His... His name was Gabe. That's what he told us anyway."
"...What?!" The Garchomp exclaimed in confusion. "That can't be possible."
He paced, "I get it now... it was planned all along. A disease comes along... a miracle savior comes out of the darkness just happening to know how to cure it. He does so and everyone follows and bows down to him. He has one network point out that he can use to travel anywhere. Travels to Valkaria, poses as a native mon from there... and then leads an attack. Eventually... he could port to other cities and lead attacks there too. Snype!"
He looked right at the Sableye, "If he goes everywhere... eventually he can go to every single capital city in every country! Everyone will talk about a Greninja named Gabe! Eventually they'll figure out where he's from and WHO he represents. Anger is stirred and then... everyone bands together. They march into Tollen... and more chaos." He shook his head and gripped his temples with his claws, "Think about it! It'll be another Gold City! This place is fortified! No one will die and only fear will be in the air from both sides! More chaos that Dakrai can extract! No wonder he eagerly gave us his name and was acting smug! If Valkaria defeats Darkrai's army there they'll find out where Gabe came from! And Royal Knights that guard the point? That must be killed? That's why there were those powerful mon in Valkaria! He's using his control over the army to send them to other places... to attack."
He sat down on the ground, taking in deep breaths, "Not good, so not good!"
"I'm more curious in what Gabe and the army gets out of this honestly. I don't see how destroying the worlds natural order will benefit anyone." Snype commented. "That does seems like a possible goal, but we don't know that yet. Don't think too far ahead. Right now we have to focus on the situation here in Tollen." Snype said calmly.
"But I have a feeling that the other psychics that were taken from the point... they could be using them to teleport troops anywhere..." Obsidian got up, shuddering a bit.
"This... this is a lot to take in at once. How can this be?" Garon questioned in disbelief. "He saved the city! He ensured the disease wouldn't come back by closing us off... then does this mean all this time whenever he claimed to be meeting with Commander Darrell in the fronts...? Then what about General Isabella...?"
"... There's a disease in Beautruce." Obsidian said silently as he walked up to the wall. "There's a disease killing many mon there." Slowly Obsidian began to scribble lightly on the wall. "First off there's Tollen. Disease comes, shut down borders, savior comes and it's a fairy tale ending. Keep borders closed. Then... there's Beautruce now. Disease comes, soon they might shut off access to the country. What if another savior magically appears? One that holds the key to life? One... that saves them."
"Then why attack Gold City? He could have just done the same thing there and nobody would have a second thought about it. I'm pretty sure its more complicated then that, but right now there's nothing we can do about it. None of us know the full story of Tollen. Meeting up with the Brotherhood will help us figure out this mystery quicker." SNype said.
Obsidian nodded, "You're right Snype. But with Valkria I can say this, we wouldn't fall for their tricks. We instead are busy fighting our own war. I assume Gabe thought that we would simply stay there in the city to help." He thought for a moment then turned to Garon, "Garon... remain as you are stationed. I know this is a lot to take in, but trust my words. Don't act fearful around Gabe. Be the same as you were. The Brotherhood are our allies in this. Do not take any promotions to a royal knight, you hear? I believe the brotherhood already know that Gabe is using them, most likely, for ulterior motives. Don't get close to him either, with Darkrai as his benefactor I'm uncertain if he would be able to try and do something to you."
"Obsidian, not taking a promotion to the Royal Knights would be a waste of an opportunity to get even closer." Snype stated, as bold as it sounded coming out of his mouth. "Garon has every right to speak up and make his own decisions, and I doubt a promotion like that will come easy, but if he makes it into the knights, then learning more about that group will become an easier task since we've already formed a connection. And if we can move our thieves into the higher districts somehow, we'll be able to learn more information that way." Snype said.
"Basically, Gabe is still gonna be your best friend and all that junk. If you think you can handle the task, take the promotion as a Royal Knight and keep in touch whenever possible. I can possibly make an arrangement with the brotherhood to "whitelist" you from their kill list. But I won't know that until tonight." Snype concluded.
Obsidian nodded and swallowed, "Yes... you can decide for yourself Garon."
"... Either way, I won't be up for a promotion to either side for another full year. So it doesn't make much of a difference for now either way. I guess if it comes to that, I will decide, but take your positions into account too," Garon replied. He then sighed and shook his head. "If everything you say is true, then I have to wonder if the entire situation with the Seekers and the hellguards wasn't all just a coincidence too. Or if the Sav-... if Gabriel planned all of it."
"... What do you mean Garon?" Obsidian asked.
"Well normally, the duty of deciding the fate of the standing army soldiers lies solely with the General of the Standing Army. At the time, it was General Isabella. However, when Gabriel became the head of the Royal Knights, he became much more involved with the selection of Royal Knights and Hellguards. Isabella didn't like it at first, as it was generally always seen as her role and decision, but Gabriel insisted this was for the best. She went along with it because of what he had done at first but... eventually the two collided heads. It was shortly after that she was accused of trying to assassinate the Queen and sentenced to death. Gabriel recommended Marcus Tyren and the two often collaborated in who they would send to the fronts to serve on the Hellguards, who they would discharge, and who they would recommend to the Royal Knights. Any Seekers that weren't expelled with the foreigners months ago were sent to the fronts..."
"Politics as usual I suppose." Snype commented. Shady stuff like that tended to happen behind the scenes. "Guess this Marcus fellow is in cahoots with Gabe's master plan as well. Sheesh he's one hell of a tactician. Its gonna take some clever minds to handle this. Keheh." Snype said he tried not to worry about all the details but did keep them into consideration. Perhaps the brotherhood was already one step ahead of everyone in the room. "Hrm....anything else we should know about?"
Obsidian nodded, "If he is recommending royal knights... then those are citizens Darkrai has probably already recruited to his cause. Yes, anything else important. Also... have any royal knights left the city to fight on the 'front lines'?"
"Royal Knight? Sometimes a few would accompany him on certain tasks, but what he has done on a few occasions is take some of the new recruits he positioned on the Hellguards with him. I guess to ensure Commander Darrell gets them. He's been doing this a lot more recently, which is what led me to send that there was activity happening along the borders. I'm guessing an increase in bandit activity or the like... it happens from time to time. But after everything that's been said, I can't help but think there's more to it."
"Probably sending them to join Darkrai's army then." Obsidian muttered. "Snype, what if Garon is chosen for this? If he gets sent out should he go to get info? I mean... if it's what I fear, then they might make him a part of the enemy."
"The info won't mean a thing if he can't even return to us or his home alive. That's up to him if he wants to put himself in such extreme danger and risk for our benefit. The guy dosn't really owe me anything so I can't tell him what to do. Out of respect anyways." Snype replied.
"I'll hope for the best." Garon said, "Sir," He looked at Obisidian, "If a army is attacking Gold City, when this is all over I wish to be reassigned there. I couldn't protect it back then, but I want to protect it now."
Obsidian nodded, "I'll see what I can do. Be cautious and we'll see if we can get you whitelisted like Snype said. Just... be calm and you'll do good. You're dismissed."
The Garchomp nodded and gave a firm salute as he headed back out. "This day just gets better and better." Obsidian muttered.
"Keheh... I'll say. Till then we should gather our bearings. So uh... spa time anyone?" Snype said with a goofy grin.
