FireRed hack: Pokémon Sepia Version

Perhaps you could name the prevolution Flambore (Flam[e]bore), and the the final evolution Snarog (Snar[e][h]og).

Snare = A kind trap for catching animals by locking onto their necks.

It's tusks could be used to trap a Pokemon, kinda.

Also, how does it evolve?
I'm guessing by Level Up...

Ooh, it's like Pokemon Sunday, but in English and without the weird costumes.
A gym leader that uses the fighting type to start us off, eh? Lo me gusta. Two Tyrogues is certainly interesting, but only for the rebattling possiblities... It will be a mystery as to which evolutions he has the next time you meet!
The region looks very non-linear, which I hope means that we will revisit some places.
I guess it is kind of like Pokémon Sunday. :3
Uh-huh, and three of 'em, too. Who's to say that he doesn't have another Tyrogue? Not saying he does, but...

Thanks, I took quite some time on the region map. I'm gonna make you backtrack, don't you worry. >:)

Again, I'll consider the names. Thanks for entering.

The pre-evolution evolves by reaching Level 32. So, yes, by Level Up. :P

I <3 these features. And the maps are great! (Glad some people use the normal FR/LG tiles!) And I can't wait to see how we can visit Hoenn, my fav region.

I am defiantly going to follow this! I love fakemon, and im going to download any beta you might put out!

...tile insertion? Wait, what?

Oh well. :D Fab maps...I like it!

And it looks nice. Very nice. Full evolution of the fire starter could be BOARAZE or RAZEBOAR, something to do with burning down.

This, my friends, is the first evidence of anything evil happening. Or is it evil? (Yeah, YouTube finally decided to co-operate. -.-)

Thanks, vietazn654. Incidentally, they aren't the default FireRed tiles - they're a mixture of FireRed and Ruby/Emerald tiles. There's a slight hint in the description of the feature about how you get to Hoenn.

When you sent me the map, there were all those Emerald and Ruby tiles on there. XD;
Haha.

I'll consider the names. :3

The fakémon-naming contest ends on Wednesday, so, if you've got an idea and haven't submitted it yet, you'd better submit soon!

Very nice, keep doing scripts like that and the hack will turn out fun to play :)

Hopefully, it will.

Anyway, mini-update not worth CSS for:
I'm thinking about renaming Boxer to Mike, as in Mike Tyson. By the end of the day, I'll hopefully have updated the screenshots and biography on him with his new name. :D

This hack looks very interesting, because it has great feature, mapping, and could I just say the lab script looks very mysterious and cool! I just wonder what the E-mail is about. ;)
This has inspired me a lot and has given me a few ideas.
Anyway, I wish you good luck and I can't wait for some more updates. :D

That's an idea but what, if you don't mind my suggestion, Rocky? Or Sylvester? It's because the cultural impact of the Rocky films outweigh the impact of any non-fictional boxer (except of course for Muhammed Ali).

Anyway, it's just an idea. I like Mike and in fact I prefer Boxer. Your call.

Thanks. I'm going to keep the e-mail a mystery both in-game and out-of-game for some time. :D

Although Rocky is a cool name, but it may mislead people into thinking he's rock type or something. I don't like Sylvester. It doesn't sound like a Gym Leader (moreso a cat :X). Hm... Actually, I might go with Rocky.

Anyway, I've updated the credits to make room for the wonderous HackMew for his awesome routines. I've actually only applied one so far, which will remove Skitty from your team.

• CONTEST OVER! •

The naming contest is over! For those who don't know, the challenge was to get two names for the two fakémon below. Here's an overview of all the names!
[PokeCommunity.com] Pokémon Sepia Version
[PokeCommunity.com] Pokémon Sepia Version

Firelet and Charogyre
Firelet doesn't really incorporate the "piglet" into it well, making the 'let' part seem random. Charogyre is far too complicated, and the "char" incorporation is so over-used with official Pokémon (Charmander, Chimchar) that it would be quite hard to distinguish the Pokémon just from it's name.
Good try, SwiftSign!

Boabust and Hogcano
As I mentioned before, Boabust really reads like "Bow - a - bust", as in the Boa Constrictor, leading me to think it would be the name of a fire type snake, not boar(s). I like the combination of words for Hogcano, but they don't really mix. As I'd said before, Boarcano would've mixed better, but this is your name.
Good try, altariaking!

Colpig and Cindine
Put bluntly, they sounds like Ice-types. Although you orginally intended for the "Col" part of the name to be a corruption of "Coal", it comes across as "Cold" instead. The pig bit doesn't really need explaining, really. Cindine still comes across as Ice-type, and this time I don't really think I have much justification. It just seems like an Ice-type name. Maybe if it was the other way around (Swine + Cinder), it would work better? I don't know.
Good try, PeregrineFig!

Pignite and Pignition
Pignite. It's magical it works so well. I would definitely use this name. The only problem is that I was viewing Pixel Art the other day and i saw some similar fakémon (a three-stage fire type pig line), and the final two were infact Pignite and Pignition. I will consider Pignite, but nothing is final until I contact said Pixel Artist. Pignition seems to similar to Pignite, by the way.
Good try, LassLaura!

Flambore and Snarog
Flambore is another complicated name. It comes across as "Flame boring", which is not desired. Flamaboar might've worked better, but I still find it a bit too complicated a name for a basic-stage Pokémon (with an evolution). As for Snarog, I love the fact that the name doesn't incorporate anything to do with fire. The "Snare" part is quite cool, but the way you put it in was a bit odd. Snarehog would be much easier to pronounce, but I do see why you removed the letters "e" and "h", as it does look more uniform like that.
Good try, Collen!

Boaraze and Razeboar
Apart from the fact that they're the same names switched, these come across as being really boaring (ba dum dum pssshhhh). "Boar" and "blaze" would have actually worked better as "Blazeboar" or something, which would then sound like a super overlord of doom. Mind, Razeboar might work. The tusks on the evolution could be counted as razors, and with a tweak, you could rename it Razoboar. I quite like that actually.
Good try, Ninja Caterpie!

• WINNERS •

Time for the moment of truth!
The winners are... -cue heartbeat-

...

...

In no specific order, I will now announce the winners of the Name Factor, 2010.

...

...

...

PIGNITE and RAZOBOAR!
-cue fireworks-

I know that I may need permission from the said Pixel Artist and see if they really want to use it or don't me to use it or whatever for Pignite, so I will need to check (in which case I'd need to find another winner). Either way, you'll get a cameo, LL. And in Razoboar's case, I hope you don't mind if I changed your's a little, Ninja Caterpie.

Anyway, could the winners, LassLaura and Ninja Caterpie, please contact me (either by posting here, PM, VM or e-mail or snail-mail). You might want to fill in one of the templates:

Trainer Template (if you want a cameo as a trainer)
Spoiler:

NPC Template (if you want a cameo as an NPC with a side-quest)
Spoiler:

PM me if you want information about something (i.e names of places, etc.).

Your updates are very awesome.
*mean look*

Congrats to the winners, and are you working on this solo?
I see that you're not decapitalizing. Anyways, those scripts and maps are great!
Best of luck!

Yeah, solo. I do have some help here and there (like some spriting help from Chibi Robo, etc.), but the actual work is done by me (bar HackMew's TakePokémon routine). I like capitals, okay? :P

Thanks.

wait, what! I meant Boaraze or Razeboar as the full evo, not both! xD Oh well, I got the full evo one in the end, xP

Oooooh... Well you won anyway. :3

By the way, at the end of the daytomorrow, the screenshots'll be updated with MIKE instead of BOXER. :3

• SUNDAY CHARACTER #1 •

Every Sunday, you will be able to find out about the Gym Leaders of Imphan, the Elite Four Members of Imphan, and some of the major or recurring characters that you will encounter along your journey in Sepia.

Today, we're covering Alistair, a mysterious citizen of TAUPE CITY.
Name: Alistair
Type of Person: Rival, maybe more.
Place of Birth: Unknown.
Currently: lives in Taupe City, but travels Imphan to presumably earn the eight gym badges.
Rematch? Normally challenges you when you encounter him.
Other Info: He's sometimes seen in a navy blue uniform, and sometimes in casual jeans and a top. What the uniform is for is unknown, however he seems very defensive about not revealing information about it when inquired.

Next week, we'll learn about our local POKéMON PROFESSOR, and some of his background.

• POST RESPONSES •

Mike, like MIKE TYSON?

I'll be keeping an eye out for that screenshot, and of course waiting for a beta. :P

Yup, Mike as in the boxer. Also, I'm afraid progress has been pretty slow lately for no real reason, so those screenshots etc. haven't really been fixed.

Sorry for the short update today, guys. Thanks for tuning in anyway, folks, and, hopefully, next time, we'll have even more updates!

This hack is looking great. Looks Like Manipulation has some competition=]. Anyways, let's start this critique.

First off, I love how you can revisit Hoenn, for personally I think it was the best and most developed of GameFreak's regions.

Secondly, I think your fakemon are going to be great, just from the spoiler you gave. Fakemon can be risky, and I think you and your team made a good choice taking that risk. I just hope they don't overtake the originals.

Thirdly, I love the sound of your minigames and sidequests. The great thing about sidequests is the game is longer and overall more enjoyable.

Fourthly, I really like your idea of a safety deposit box. I like it because usually when I see a big department store, I go all out and lose my money. =/

Finally, I just overall love the hack. If you continue the way you are, this hack will easily be in the HOY awards. I can't wait for a beta! Good Luck!
