Pokémon Sprite Discussion [from RBYG to XY]

Houndoom's proportions were pretty off from the original design before its HG/SS sprite, especially that gigantic head present in DP and Platinum.

Id have to say my favorite sprites are the ones from R/S/E. I have only played Diamond briefly, and no other games from the DS series besides White. I hate White. The battle sprites are horrible. The moves just..suck. I mean, the graphics ingame are good in all..But the in battle ones are suckish. Should have spent more time on them before releasing :/

Well, I'll compare the sprite of..
Jynx

Red (JA)/Green: This sprite is extremely bad. Especially the lips. It's just gross.

Red/Blue: Okay, this is just as bad as the previous one. At least they fixed the lips.

I could say I like it but there are two things I don't like about this sprite: one, pose and two, LIPS!

Gold: I guess it's okay. Pose is good, lips are fine..GOOD.

Silver: I like everything about it, except for the POSE. Back at the first gen, LIPS. Now, POSE.

Crystal: Good thing they used the Gold sprite. I like the animation. SHAKE YOUR BOOTIE SHAKE YOUR BOOTIE COME ON AND DANCE! XD Awesome! By the way, Jynx, you really need to brush your hair.

Ruby/Sapphire: Bad color palette is bad. Pose is bad. A good thing about the sprite is: hairdo! Jynx has been really brushing her hair lately. XD

FireRed/LeafGreen: Good color palette is good. Pose is great! Cool sprite overall!

Emerald: LOL'd at the animation XD. Her color palette is the same as R/S. That's a shame.

Diamond/Pearl/Platinum: Good color, hair is good. And it's saying "I don't know." The pose is rather decent but it's not the ultimate sprite.

HeartGold/SoulSilver: BEST. JYNX. SPRITE. EVER XD Hair, pose, everything about it! GF (GameFreak) did a well good job here. =)

Black/White: .......it's really similar to the D/P/Pt sprite, but not exactly similar.

BACK SPRITES:

Gen 1: EW! GROSS! YUCK! EWW! GROSS! EWWWWWWWWWWWWW! BAD SPRITE! EW! YUCK! EWW!

Gen 2: =/ no comment.

Gen 3: I don't like it, but I don't hate it either..

Gen 4: Awesome! =)

Gen 5: I don't like it, but I don't hate it either..

SHINY:

Aww..the shiny has nice coloring =3

I'm not sure what's so bad about BWs sprites when they're larger and more well drawn than most of the GBA sprites.

The pose is fine and the colors are a bit off, but thats to be expected. The proportions are a bit off. 7/10

Y

The colors is a improvement and the pose is slighty better. Great sprite for a gen I game, but that isn't saying much. 8/10

This looks gastly. 2/10

A huge step up from the other Nidoqueen sprites. The pose is fantastic. 9/10

S

Same thoughts as Gold's sprite.

I'm going to compare sprites of my fave Water Pokemon, Golduck.

Red & Blue:

Golduck didn't look bad, a nice shade of blue. 8/10

Yellow:

A lighter shade of blue, but a better pose, very similar pose to the DW artwork 7/10

Gold:

Not too bad. A cool blue 9/10

Silver:

Same opinion as Gold. Pose looks very similar to D/P 8/10

Crystal:

More blue, just what I wanted 9/10

Ruby, Sapphire & Emerald:

Not too bad, but the face, uhh? 6/10

FireRed & LeafGreen:

Cute, like a dancer. 7/10

Diamond & Pearl:

Looks like it is dancing. 8/10

Platinum:

Same pose as D/P but the first time it's bill is open. 9/10

HeartGold & SoulSilver:

Best Golduck sprite yet! 10/10

Black & White:

Most Gen I-IV Pokemon retained their D/P/Pt/HG/SS sprites but this one really looks nice 9/10

Shiny:

Bill looks too pink but a nice bright blue 8/10

Twins

G/S/C: Good, but the legs are fat. 3/10

R/S/E: Sprite looks better, only they look more mature, and I thought twins were supposed to be young and innocent :/. 5/10

FR/LG: They look younger, but still mature looking...5/10

D/P/Pt: Now this is how innocent twins are supposed to look like! 7/10

HG/SS: And they keep on becoming cuter...8/10

B/W: Aww :) 10/10

Loggy, I'll have to infract you if you eat the twins. The BW ones are the cutest though imo. They look like they're 2 years old, and 2 year olds are adorable. lol Plus I like that they don't have dark hair like the other twins, excluding the FRLG twins...who don't look 2.

Also I think if they had dark grey hair or blue like the R/S/E sprites, it'll ruin their bright pink and green colours.

I have noticed in the past that the progression of sprites over 10 years is not very much. I can't wait to see a new version on the 3ds!!!! But, I have to say, I do enjoy pixel art myself, so if it was computerized 3d graphics, I would not be able to keep up with my spriting!
