Pokemon: A Fresh Start

Chapter 2 - Part I
"Cold as Ice!!!"
-Ice Path-

Lily put the letter in her backpack her cheeks being all red, Clover whistling acting like he didn't notice. "Well let's get going!" she said calming her voice as she realized what Clover was thinking. The little critter jumped on her shoulder just as they entered the cave. The immediately felt the cold air on their faces. The cave looked like any ordinary one just that here and there were some spots of snow, but this was just the entrance. They started walking taking the path which was designed for trainers and travelers by foot. "Let's find some more information about this cave. " Lily said starting to search for her PokePad. She logged on the internet and typed "Ice Path" and the Pad started talking: " A well known cave in Johto that is home to numerous ice type pokemon. The part near the entrance are partially filled with snow but as you will continue towards the core of the cave it will be frozen solid with icy floor and walls."

"Handy tool.Guess we'll have some interesting scenery indoors." She smiled towards Clover, the bug pokemon nodding being all excited to explore this cave. They continued their way through the cave and after half an hour they found themselves freezing as they reached the frozen area. The rocks were completely frozen and pillars of ice were either hanging from the ceiling or emerging from the ground, snow covering all that was in sight. Lily got her jacket from her bah and put Clover in her bag so that it could be warm. " Felling good back there?" "Sew… Sewaddle!!!" the pokemon cried happily. It went inside the bag curious of what was in it. He noticed the paper that he had picked and it gave him an idea. He got out of the bag and crawled back on top of Lily's shoulder trying to get Lily's attention and also trying to say something to Lily. " What's the matter Clover?" she said putting him down. Clover got up on his back feet and started mimicking something. " A person?" Clover nodded. Then Clover pointed to the bag and tried mimicking a letter. " What's with the letter?" she asked confused. Clover mimicked again a person. "Oh I get it Xander. " Clover nodded again, then started making something in the snow. In started from a point and made a curved shape. " An arrow?" The girl tried to guess before it was finished. Clover ignored and finished its shape. " A heart? Why would you draw that? HEYYYYYYY IT'S NOT TRUE!!!!!" She said blushing all over then picking Clover up so she could erase the drawing. " Don't joke about that!!!" Clover was smiling as he just wanted to tease Lily. " You little rascal so you picked up something from my chat with Xander in our room. " Clover was smiling even brighter. " Well here's another lesson. If you have snow that means SNOW FIGHT!!!!!!" she said letting Clover drop in a pile of snow, then made a pair of wings on both sides of Clover. "Perfect! A pokemon angel." Then started running.

Clover got up and brushed the snow of off him and started running after his trainer still smiling. Clover was happy that his plan worked and they were now playing. Lily took a corner and went through a tunnel so they could leave the straight path but stopped to make some snowballs as well to make sure that Clover sees her running in that direction. She threw some snowballs at Clover then continued running. Clover jumped over them and rushed to catch up to Lily he took the corner and bumped into Lily. Clover got up and went next to Lily. They were both starring at a huge crystal floor. It was like a skate ring that had some ice boulders here and there. Clover cried in joy and jumped on the icy floor sliding from one part to the other of the room. Lily on the other hand was still motionless and was looking around to see if there was any other way than walking on this icy floor to get to the other side. "Clover I think we'll have to find another way to get to the exit. We can't reach the other side as there isn't any way." The bug pokemon looked confused at the girl. She could slide on the floor to the other part what was the pokemon was thinking. So why was Lily hesitating? Clover shouted to the girl trying to make her get on the floor. Lily stared at the floor, closed her eyes and took a step. She was sliding on the ice. " Hey this isn't so BAAAAAAD! BAD IDEA! BAD IDEA!" she said as she gained speed and was losing balance. Clover could help but laugh at the sight of Lily. The girl fell down and was still sliding towards the left side of the room gaining speed. " This isn't Funnyyyyyyy!" the girl bumped into the wall of the room and stopped. " Glad that's over!" but the bumping made some snow break from the ceiling and fall on top of Lily. Clover was rolling on the floor at the scene. He then made his way towards Lily as the girl got her hands and head out of the snow. She got up trying to stand straight. "Sewaddle!!!" the pokemon shouted and spit some silk around Lily's waist tied her up, then started moving on the ice. " Cloooooooover! This is a bad idea!!!" the girl said as she started moving also being pulled by the pokemon. The pokemon was sliding all over the floor pulling Lily after him. " Ok we should head towards the edge. " But Clover was having too much of a great time to spoil the fun now. Lily was still scared but now at least she wasn't gonna fall so easy. "Clover I know that you like this but we have to go." She shouted the sounds echoing in the room. Clover stopped and frowned as they reached the other part of the room . " I know you want to play but we have to get out of the cave as soon as possible so that nightfall will no catch us in here. " just as she finished her sentence a flapping sound could be heard from deep within the other part of the room from where they had just came. " Clover I think we have a problem! " she said as a flock of Woobat and Swoobat was flying towards them. Lily grabbed Clover and jumped through the tunnel into the snow just in the nick of time to evade the flock of flying pokemon. She got up with Snow all over her and pretty nice beard made from snow, but just as the old saying " The apple doesn't fall far from the tree." or the Clover in our case, the bug pokemon rose from the snow with a fine mustache. The two giggled as they shoved the snow off of them.

"I think we had our share of fun for today!" Getting Clover on her shoulder. The pokemon was happy and crawled into her jacket popping out his head near her neck. " You never cease to amaze me!"

"GET MOVING! Those cages won't move themselves!" shouted someone a bit further than where Lily and Clover were.

" Cages?!? Here? Let's find out." Lily said as they were walking. As they were approaching the end of the tunnel she started walking slowly and as she entered another room she hid beside a frozen rock that was near them.

"Ok just two more left and we can get out of this place!"

Lily peeked her head out only to be shocked. The voice was coming from a big muscled man that was wearing a black bandanna and was wearing winter clothes. He was giving orders to two more skinnier mad that were loading cages filled with pokemon onto a sledge that was going to be pulled by a furry pokemon. " Ok men with this many pokemon we'll get tons of money on the black market."

"How cruel!!! Their all defenseless! " "Sewaddle." Agreeing and looking like he was going to burst into an attack any moment. Just then another man came with a pokemon in his hand and opened a cage to put it in. As he opened the cage, due to the lack of space in it, a hat like pokemon fell out.

"Hey boss!!! There's no more room for this one!." He quickly grabbing the pokemon before it fled. All the other pokemon were shouting in anger and were hitting the bars. The boss hit the cages making all of them go mute then headed over to his partner. The little hat pokemon was shaking in fear. " This one wouldn't sell even if we would give it free. He's too weak and is more scared than a Caterpie. Toss him away. Let's go."

The henchman did as he was ordered, throwing the pokemon into the snow. Lily couldn't bare it anymore. " Hey you thieves!!! Let's those pokemon free." " Oh look boss a little girl is threatening us!. "Who're you calling little? I'll punch you harder than a Rhydon!" " Now calm down missy or you'll get hurt. We haven't stolen them as they don't belong to anyone. " " They're wild pokemon and are not free to grab by the dozen." "Well finders keepers missy." The boss said hoping into the sledge along with his partners and making their escape. "HEY !!!! COME BACK HERE!!!" Lily said running toward them but stopped as she saw the little hat pokemon in the snow. She picked the pokemon up and brushed the snow off of him. The pokemon was crying and looked scared. It immediately used Powder Snow on Lily making her drop it. Lily now had her hair filled with snow. " That wasn't the reaction I was expecting." She said baffled. The pokemon run and hid behind a frozen rock. " Clover why not you try to calm him down. " Clover walked towards the rock and went behind it , were the pokemon was catching its breath but as soon as the pokemon spotted clover it used Powder Snow again and knocked it back into the wall. Then jumped out and started using Poweder Snow at Lily trying to make her go away.

" Yikees!" the girl cried jumping out of range of the attack just next to Clover but the pokemon was coming after them. " Clover guess we have to battle!" she said knowing that that was the only way to calm the pokemon. Clover got up and jumped in front of Lily, letting her know that he was ready. Lily got her PokePad and scanned the pokemon :

[PokeCommunity.com] Pokemon: A Fresh Start

Snorunt, the Snow Hat Pokémon. Snorunt primarily inhabits very snowy regions. It has long been said that any home visited by a Snorunt will be blessed with good fortune.

" Ok so this is a Snorunt!" she said putting her PokePad away. But just as she put it the Snorunt launched another Powder Snow at Clover. The pokemon was swept of its feet by the freesing wind and was sent once again into the wall. The pokemon got up again and jumped on the floor sliding a bit on it. Seeing this he turned towards Lily with a grin on his face. " Great idea!" the gril said realising what Clover was thinking. Snorunt used the icy attack once again but this time Clover dodged it by sliding beneath it. It went well until Clover reached the snowy part on the room and had a hard time crawling in it. Lily looked across the room and saw that the only icy portion was where she was standing so Clover's movement was going to be slowed down by the snow but she also noticed the rocks. " Guess they'll have to do for now." She tought to herself. " Clover jump on a rock. Then use Energy Ball!"

Clover jumpe on top of a rock at the center of the room so he could have a full view of the area and then, as Snorunt was running towards him he launched an energy Ball which hit the ice type pokemon dead on knocking him into another rock. "Nicely done! Now use it again!" the girl shouted from across the room. Clover was creating another green ball while Snorunt got up and rushed towards Clover once again but this time as it aproached it used Double Team and sprea dinto several copies of himself circling the rock as fats as it could. Clover launched the green Ball but missed as it hit a clone. As the Snorunts were getting faster and faster they used Snow Powder again trapping Clover into an ice like tornado. Clover was hanging as hard as it could not to be blown off by the attack or the snow.

" Clover hang on!!! Use String Shot and try to make Snorunt trip." Lily yelled as hard as she could so that Clover could hear her. Clover shoot a piece of string but it didn't go very far as it got swept away by the wind. Clover started making a little ball of silk then tried again. This time the ball pierced the wall of wind and snow and hit the ground. As Snorunt was circling around Clover it tripped over the string and flew into a big pile of snow. " Sewaddle!!!" the pokemon cried as the clones disappeared.

"Good job! But remember we're still not out of the woods yet!. " she said seeing as the hat pokemon got out of the snow. " Sitting there will just trap Clover again. I have to think of something fast. " the girl thought. After nearly exhausting her brain she came out with an idea. " Let's see if this works. Clover use String Shot all over the place and keep it coming." Clover didn't understand but he trusted his trainer so he started spreading the strings of silk all over. Snorunt taught that the strings were meant for its harm so he started using Powder Snow on them and froze them up. After a few minutes the whole place was sparkling due to the many silk strings, or should I say ice string that were attached everywhere , from rock to rock and in between somehow similar to a web. Clover now knew what Lily had had in mind. " Time for skating Clover!" Lily burst as her plan worked even better than she expected. She just wanted at first to make a silk paths for Clover to use to move around the area but due to them being frozen Clover could slide on them as move even faster. Clover started moving around the area taking lefts and right on the big web confusing Snorunt.

After a bit Snorunt jumped on the web, not wanting to fall behind Clover and started chasing him. Snorunt kept using Powder Snow but Clover just had to change its course and would easily evade the attack. Just as Snorunt was getting closer to him Lily told Clover to jump up high. " Ok now Tackle him head on. " Clover fell down like a missile smashing into Snorunt and at the same time shattering the frozen web into millions of pieces that sparkled as they hit the ground. Clover jumped in front of Lily while Snorunt was still dizzy from the attack. " He's a very good battler despite being scared. Why not…" and with those words Lily took an empty pokeball from her belt and threw it at Snorunt. The ball opened and sucked the pokemon in into a red beam of light then fell into the snow, the white button flashing red as it was shaking.

( OCC: If the catch is successful can the Snorunt be female please. :) )

@Romdinner - Wonderful post, you got really creative with the ice, and I like the good balance between fun interaction and battling.

Chapter Two
Post #1
Isobelle Tyrone, Ice Path

It seemed like an eternity before the Pokeball containing the ferocious Bagon finally stopped making the tiny dinging sound, to indicate the Pokemon had been caught. Isobelle stood for a moment, both bemused and stunned before she quickly came to at a small noise from Meowth, who was still cuddled against her chest and she scooped up the Pokeball, now brimming with heat.

"We gotta get you both to the Pokemon Center," Isobelle told Meowth before she scanned the cavern, looking for the nearest exit. The lights strung from the ceiling led the path down to a second exit. It seemed closer than the passage to the Professor's lab so she headed in the opposite direction, still holding onto both Bagon's Pokeball and Meowth in her arms.

Whilst the track was uneven in some places and taking a wrong turn at one point and getting told off by Meowth, Isobelle soon found herself squinting in the daylight. She kept an even pace as she made her way through the streets back to the Pokemon Center she had seen earlier. It's red roof wasn't hard to miss. Isobelle began to think she must have been inside the Den longer than she intended, for the sun seemed to indicate it was after lunch. At the mention of food, her stomach growled loudly. Meowth looked at Isobelle and nodded tiredly.

"Don't worry, I'll get you something too,"

The doors to the Pokemon Center opened automatically, a fresh blast of cold, air conditioned air meeting the warm outdoors. Isobelle trudged inside, noticing how lucky it was that she could put Meowth down soon, she was starting to hurt her arms. For a small Pokemon, she was surprisingly heavy.
The Pokemon Center's layout was plain and simple, with the front counter being the main focus of the lobby with computers off to one side and a couple of tables and chairs on the opposite side. Corridors that led off from beside the counter led to both operating theatres, recovery rooms and rooms available to rent. The Pokemon Center seemed to be buzzing with activity, the seats at the tables filled with quite a few people and their Pokemon. Isobelle moved towards the counter, hoping they weren't too busy behind the scenes to help her Pokemon.

The attendant at the desk was busy typing away on a keyboard, every so often flicking back to refer to a detailed written file. It took a moment before she noticed Isobelle and Meowth waiting to be served. The attendant, her black hair in pig tails, jumped up from the desk, an embarressed look on her face. She was obviously very engrossed in her work.

"Welcome to Blackthorn Pokemon Center," she said, giving Isobelle a welcoming smile. Her eyes then fell on Meowth, who seemed to be dozing slightly in Isobelle's arms. "Your Meowth needs a check up then?"

"Yes please," Isobelle replied, placing Meowth gently on the counter. The attendant picked the feline up. "And my Bagon too," She also placed the Pokeball on the counter along with Meowth's.

"Could you please scan your License Chip?" The attendant pointed towards a small scanner whilst she put both Pokeballs into a tray. Isobelle placed her palm up to the scanner and it beeped once. "Ah, so you're a new trainer, huh? That's great to hear, congratulations!" Isobelle's details had come up on the system, updated automatically to register her new Bagon as belonging to her. "It won't take long for your Pokemon to be brought back to full health, give us an hour or so," The attendant finished.

"Thank you, please be careful with Meowth," Isobelle said, waving a small goodbye to Meowth, who had settled in the attendant's arms with one eye fixed lazily on Isobelle. "I'll get you some lunch Meowth."

"Meowth! Meow," She seemed to nod in agreement before the attendant smiled once more before disappearing down the corridor with Meowth and Bagon.

There wasn't much Isobelle could do whilst she waited but she decided to get something for lunch anyway. The large glass windows of the Pokemon Center gave way to the shops along the street and Isobelle spotted a small cafe across the road before she had stepped out the door. After an extremely filling sandwich and getting a couple of muesli bars to take with her, it didn't take Isobelle long to find another shop that sold bags of food especially made for Pokemon. She couldn't purchase what she recognized as the brand her parents bought for their Pokemon at home but she got what she knew would still be alright for Meowth and Bagon. In a little over an hour, she was back inside the Pokemon Center.

The Center had become quite empty very quickly. The attendant was back at the front desk, accompanied this time by a small Pokemon who was a dark shade of yellow and seemed to be making a tinkling sound. Isobelle had seen a picture of this Pokemon before, a Chingling.

"Hello again Miss, how did you find Blackthorn?" The Attendant asked as Isobelle reached the front desk. Her Chingling bounced around happily.
"Great thank you, I picked up some supplies," Isobelle replied. "How are Meowth and Bagon?"

"They both weren't hurt too badly, I'll go and collect your Pokeballs now," The Attendant left to retrieve the Pokeballs, leaving Isobelle and the Chingling together for a moment. Chingling seemed to be quite young, emitting a highly playful nature. The Attendant returned swiftly, carrying a tray with Isobelle's two Pokeballs on it.

"Is this your Chingling?" Isobelle asked as she gratefully picked up both of her Pokeballs from the tray.

"Yes, he's just a baby. A Hiker found him in the Ice Path and dropped him here, Chingling's been here for a little while now, haven't you Chingling?" The Attendant cooed at the baby Pokemon, who responded happily to the attention.

"The Ice Path?" Isobelle queried. She'd never heard of any 'Ice Path' around here. She'd never even seen snow before, as a matter of fact. The weather around the Cianwood area was more tropical than anything else.

"The Ice Path connects you to the route that leads to Mahogany Town, you should think about heading out that way, it could be a great experience for you as a new trainer," The Attendant explained. It sounded great but Isobelle was wary about the idea of being in a cave again, this time it filled with ice. And besides, it would be extremely cold. Meowth probably wouldn't like that. "It's a fairly easy path to follow through and it's all well lit. You'll be fine, definitely think about taking that route," The Attendant encouraged.

"Well thanks for the advice, I think I will," Isobelle smiled and waved goodbye to the little Chingling before heading over to a table to let both Meowth and Bagon out of their Pokeballs. Sitting down, she pulled both the food she had bought and two small little blue bowls with a wave design on each out of her bag, filling each bowl with food, which she placed on the ground. In turn, Isobelle then let Meowth out of her Pokeball first, who seemed happy to be out once more but looked entirely too content to do nothing but sleep. She then eagerly pressed the white button on Bagon's Pokeball and the small Dragon materialised beside Meowth.

"Bagon! Baay!" The dragon sure had a loud voice for such a small Pokemon. His eyes darted around the Center for a moment before noticing the bowl of food Isobelle had placed on the ground infront of him. It didn't take long before both Meowth and Bagon were chowing down, with Meowth's constant chatter filling the lobby whilst Bagon seemed to be great at both intently listening and eating as fast as he could. Isobelle was quietly pleased that they seemed to be getting along at least, which must mean that her new Bagon had accepted, in some way, that he had been captured. Every so often, the Bagon's eyes would dart up to look at Isobelle before returning to his food. It took the young girl a while before she realised, he was pretty darn hungry. She scooped out another handful of the food and put it in Bagon's bowl and in an instant he was happily eating once more, in between giving her leg a hug.

"I guess your weakness is food, huh?" Isobelle laughed before petting both Meowth and Bagon affectionately on the head.

~

It wasn't long before Isobelle had rightly decided that Meowth, Bagon and herself would tackle the Ice Path. That seemed like the most direct route to take anyway. She'd consulted with both of her Pokemon ofcourse and whilst Meowth hadn't had much of an opinion, her stubborn persona all but gone now that they were out of trouble, Bagon had seemed determined to tackle it, agreeing with Isobelle all the way.

Before heading into the icy tunnel, Isobelle made sure she had every properly packed and made a point to change into something a little warmer, donning her rain jacket as well since it seemed to give some insulation against the cold. She had also tried to get both Pokemon back into their Pokeballs, feeling that their journey would be better spent warm but Meowth decided to bring back her stubbornness and refuse to get inside her Pokeball. Bagon was a bit smarter than the feline, happily obliging as long as he got another snack beforehand. Meowth insisted on walking up until the point where she entered the cave with Isobelle, only to find that not even the non-slip pads which lined the path could prevent her from feeling the cold. In the end, Isobelle wound up carrying Meowth who was tucked inside her zipped up rain jacket, keeping warm from Isobelle's body heat. It was a sight to see, as Meowth's head was large in proportion to it's body.

"You are a silly Meowth," Isobelle grinned as she hugged the kitten tightly.

After sorting out Meowth, who now seemed quite comfortable, Isobelle turned her attention to the Ice Path, taking notice of everything as her carefully placed steps ensured she did not slip on the ice. Colours flooded the cavern, from earthly greys to pearl whites, reflecting off of each other and a small ray of sunlight that had edged its way through a deteriorating patch in the roof. She'd never seen anything like it. It was truly exquisite. In fact, Isobelle was so engrossed in staring at the way the ice took to the shape of the boulders and the lethal looking icicles that hung from the roof that she failed to notice Meowth's sudden cries as a swarm of Pokemon swooped out of a side passage, taking her and Meowth out in the process.

Blinking awkwardly, Isobelle found that Meowth had escaped from her rain jacket, saving herself from being crushed by her trainer who had fallen in a heap on the ice. Isobelle picked herself up slowly, checking for grazes and her joints. She hadn't hurt herself badly but her hands were now red raw from grazing them on the ice. Wincing, she picked up her backpack whilst her eyes followed to where Meowth had landed.

"Meowth?" Isobelle queried. When the Meowth did not respond, Isobelle took a step closer, examining her Pokemon.

The cream coloured feline switched to a crouching position, her whole body acting like she was trying to smother something on the ice. Isobelle's hands locked around Meowth as she picked her up. There was a sudden flutter of wings and Meowth let go of the figure she had been keeping prisoner.

"Meowth!?" Isobelle cried, suddenly realising that Meowth had successfully pounced and nabbed one of the Zubat that had knocked her over. "What have you done!"

Once again, Isobelle was faced with an angry Pokemon, mostly thanks to Meowth. The Zubat rose in the air, it's small fangs bared as it hurled towards Meowth. The feline gave a cry as she failed to move out of the way in time, Zubat's teeth sinking into her fur. Isobelle had never seen one of these creatures execute a Leech Life attack before and she stood for a moment, stunned as she watched Zubat drain some of Meowth's health. As quick as it had darted towards Meowth, it was back in the air, the Zubat's wings flapping fast. Meowth seemed only slightly dazed at this point but Isobelle was determined to try now.

"Meowth, counter attack with Bite!" Isobelle commanded. Meowth took a moment before she bolted forward, gaining only a minimal amount of speed on the slippery surface before she made it into the air, her teeth latching onto the Zubat for a decent attack. Meowth had grabbed the Zubat's wing and as she let go, Isobelle saw how the Zubat now seemed slightly impaired, it's right wing drooping slightly towards the ground. The Zubat was not ready to give up yet though as it swooped downwards for another attack.

"Quick Meowth, use Scratch at a close range!" Isobelle grinned as she realised her well played move. The Zubat was launched right into Meowth's claws as she left marks on the poor wild Pokemon. One more scratch of Meowth's claws sent the Pokemon hurling to the ground. Suddenly feeling remorse and pain for the little Pokemon, Isobelle's attitude changed. She was no longer out to defeat this wild Pokemon, she knew she would have to capture it. Maybe this was Meowth's plan all along, to acquire new friends. Or slaves, depending on your view of Meowth and its evolution Persian. Isobelle quickly grabbed a spare Pokeball from her backpack before throwing it in the direction of the fallen Zubat, who seemed to be trying with all it's might to pick itself back up. It disappeared into blue light as the Pokeball clicked shut, rolling back and forth on the ground.

So, wait, I wasn't around when this was made, are there allowed to be more characters? I am unsure since everything on the companion sheet says "reserved" or "taken" and I am unsure as to whether or not I can choose a companion outside of that list or if Ii simply can't join. Thank you for taking the time to consider and respond to this post and I sincerely hope I'll be able to join!

@Breezy - Awesome post, I really like your description of the Pokemon Center, very hospital-like, and it's quite creative.

Meowth grew to lv. 7!
Isobelle caught a lv. 6 female Zubat!

Chapter 3: Route 44

Route 44, or nicknamed the Conservation Route, is a straight-forward, mountainous path. It consists of a pine forest enclosed by mountains on all sides, with one wide main path sloping down toward Mahogany Town. There are a few ponds strewn here and there. Some are quite shallow and you could wade through them to find wild Pokémon (Though it'll be pretty cold!). Two or three ponds are pretty deep, and there's a mechanical fishing pole on the banks of each. If you let the machine scan your License Chip it will let you use it to fish for Pokémon should you want to. There's also a small camping ground in the woods with a safe place to build a fire as well as space cleared from pinecones to spread a sleeping bag.

With the technology to revive fossilized Pokémon, the Johto Pokémon League –back before it stopped- had created a breeding program to get the extinct Pokémon's numbers up. Facilitating this program the League designated Route 44 to house the creatures, being so isolated made it perfect for keeping the population in check. This is one of the few Pokémon related projects that has been kept going during Johto's recession, and you might meet some rangers designated to the area during your travels.

[ Mandatory Event: ]

Sometime after you exit the Ice Path you'll hear your name shouted from the mouth of the cave. Jonah, Professor Sequoia's assistant, will come running, out of breath, through the cave. He'll explain that Professor Sequoia asked him to deliver something to you and promptly hand over a small, square box.

Inside it you will find a special Pokéball (think Lure Ball or Dusk Ball, you may choose with Pokéball you find) delicately wrapped. Jonah explains that the Professor had found a batch of balls in one of her yet unpacked boxes and thought her trainers might be able to use them.

In Game: If you catch a Pokémon with your special Pokéball (You must clearly state doing so) that Pokémon will be ensured to have an Egg Move. However the quality of your post will determine the quality of that move.

[ Optional Event: ]

One of the Rangers in charge of monitoring the Conservation Route is trying to get a wounded Armaldo under control to treat it, but the Pokémon is panicked and overpowering the Ranger. Help the Ranger calm the Armaldo, either by helping him battle it (the Ranger may possess any Pokémon of your choice) or by using more creative means. Dealing with such a strong Pokemon should give your Pokemon a lot of exp. though.

Chapter 2 - Part II
"Breaking the ice!"
-Ice Path-

Lily was awaiting nervously as the ball was shaking on the snow. Then the ball finally stopped flashing. " Yes a perfect catch! But there's no time to spare. Snorunt needs to be healed and so do you Clover." She said turning towards Clover then went and picked Snorunt's pokeball. " Clover I think you should go into your pokeball until we reach the inner healing device. The nurse from Blackthorn said that we'd find it at the middle of the path. It can't be that far away. " she said taking Clover's pokeball but the pokemon jumped on Lily's shoulder wanting to let her know that he will stay outside with her the whole way. "Guess it can't be helped. But no battling until you're healed." "Sewaddle!!!" the pokemon cried agreeing with the terms.

She exited the room only to find herself facing a deep gap and a freshly cut down bridge. " Those bastards wanted to make sure that we won't follow them. " Her only option now was to use a very narrow path on the right of her to get across, but it was kind of steep and one wrong move could mean her doom. She went there and let Clover go first as he was small and could get across easily. After he crawled and was on the other side it was Lily's turn. "Here goes nothing. " she said in a low voice taking a deep breath. She went slowly taking her time and avoiding looking down. Step by step she managed to get on the other side without any problems. " Glad that's over with!" She said taking Clover up and heading on towards the healing point.

" Do you think that's it?" Lily asked Clover after about 15 minutes of walking. " Sewaddle!!" the pokemon cried affirming. " You're right!" They had finally reached the healing station. It was in a large ice covered room that was very bright and shiny due to the ceiling being made entirely out of ice so the sun's rays could come through them. It was like a scene from a fairy-tail book. " It's so lovely here….leaving aside the cold part. Now let's get Snorunt healed up!" she took the pokeball from her belt and headed towards the device which was fixed into the wall. She looked at the screen. " Ok so I have to place the pokeball in this space. Then push this……push that and now I have to wait a bit." She went and sat a rock after brushing the snow off of it. " Let's check Snorunt's data." She said pulling her PokePad out. Meanwhile clover was playing in the snow in front of her trying to build a snowman. He was rolling a snowball pushing it to make it bigger. He was gaining speed and before he could realize it the snowball was moving on itself. Clover rushed and jumped on top of it without thinking, out of pure reflex. He was now running as fast as he could, trying to keep up with the rolling of the snowball.
"Oh so Snorunt is a female. That's nice having another girl around. No offence Clover. " she said with her eyes on the screen not noticing what was the little rascal doing. " It has the ability Ice body and the following moves: Powder Snow, Double Team, Leer and Rollout. Hmm interesting ….she didn't use the last ones in our previous battle. " Just as she finished her sentence she heard a loud crash noise. She looked around and saw Clover in covered in a big pile of snow next to the wall. " I'm not gonna ask. " she said giggling. "Sewaddle!" cried a little bit embarrassed but still with a big smile on his face. He got out of the snow and walked up to the healing device just as the device flashed signaling the completion of the healing. Lily got up and took the pokeball. "Ok now your turn." She said pulling Clover's pokeball and pushing the button calling Clover back. After that she repeated the same procedures for Clover and sat down looking at Snorunt's pokeball. " Time to say hello to our little lady." She said pushing the button on the pokeball. Snorunt looked at his right and his left, not knowing where she was then turned towards Lily who was smiling at her. Snorunt came closer to her and looked into her eyes, then in a split of a second unleashed a powerful Powder Snow, blowing Lily's hair and freezing it at the same time. "Guess it's not the *warm* hello I was expecting. " she said getting some snow out of her mouth. Snorunt quickly ran and hid behind a rock trembling in fear. " Still scared I see. I can't blame her after what those poachers put her through." She thought as she finished getting her hair back to normal. She got up and walked slowly, not to startle Snorunt, towards the rock but as soon as Snorunt noticed her presence she immediately used Powder snow again then tucked herself trying to avoid eye contact. Lily evaded the attack my nearly inches so she decided to try another approach. She went to her bag and took out a bag cookies she was saving for later. She place one on the snow near her and then went and sat on the rock taking another cookie. "I'm so hungry! Good thing I packed some nice, delicious cookies!" the girl said out loudly. This certainly attracted Snorunt's attention. The little pokemon peeked out its head and saw that Lily was enjoying her cookie. It came out of hiding and walked slowly towards the cookie. It took it and before Lily could say a word it dashed back into hiding. The pokemon was happily chomping on the cookie. " I see you like my cookies." Lilly said from above the rock. Snorunt quickly tucked itself into her hands. "Well at least I've made some progress. No Powder Snow this time." She thought to herself. She sat down on the snow on the opposite side of the rock. "I won't hurt you, I promise." She said. Snorunt got its head out of its hands but still remained silent and numb. "I'll give you more cookies if you want. " then she threw a cookie over to Snorunt. Snorunt ate it as soon as it got its hands on it. " I see you're really hungry. " she said then threw another cookie over. Just then the device started flashing. Lily got up and walked over picking the pokeball and letting Clover out. She then handed a cookie to him as he was wagging his bottom just like a little puppy waiting for a treat. While both pokemon were eating Lily was deep into her thought. " I think it was wrong to capture Snorunt in her state…..but there was no other way to get her to calm down and healed. If it wasn't for those bastards. " She then turned her head towards Snorunt who was now sitting on top of the rock munching on the cookies Lily left for here.

"Clover I was thinking. Those other pokemon must be as scared as Snorunt is and are surely treated badly. We have to rescue them….the police won't get here in time and those poor pokemon are helpless." The girl said in a worried tone. Sewaddle looked over to Snorunt and then to Lily. He got up and cried meaning that he was up for it. " Then let's do it partner. But what about Snorunt." She said turning over to her. " Snorunt!" at the sound of her name Snorunt went back into hiding. "Don't worry I'm not coming over, I just wanted to let you know that you are free to go anywhere you want, I just caught you so that you would be safe and protect you, we're going to save the rest of your friends. " Snorunt was shocked by Lily's words as she believed that all humans were bad. She peeked her head out and saw Lily leaving with Clover by her side. She went out of hiding a slowly followed them keeping distance. Despite all her effort to follow them unnoticed, Lily knew she was following them but she let her think she hadn't been discovered.

After about half an hour of walking they were back on the main path and Lily was getting worried because the poachers may have left the cave. But just as her hope was fading away she saw a glimpse of the sledge with the three cages of pokemon. The two subordinates were guarding the cages while the boss was nowhere in sight.

" Couldn't the boss have just taken one from the cages?"

"Well you know how he likes to capture his own pokemon. Just his way of being."

"Yeah we'll he'd better get back soon. I'm freezing here."

"Why don't you say it to his face when he comes back."

"Well on second thought it's such a nice cave." The grunt said trying to change the subject.

"So the boos is out. Perfect. Clover listen here." She said then whispered something into Clover's ear. Snorunt was just a few feet away from them and was watching everything. Clover was now crawling behind the cages trying to get on top of them. When he finally managed he spit out some silk and attached itself to the cage then let him down on the other side just behind the grunts. Lily told him to sneak behind them and take the keys that one of them was holding at his belt. Clover took the key and climbed back onto the cage with the key in its mouth. "Ok phase one went well, let's see how the next one goes." Clover spit some silk onto the ceiling for it to climb, he hit one of the grunt s in the head then went up the string.

"Hey why did you hit me?"

"What?! I didn't do anything."

"Sure you didn't." the grunt mumbled turning his sight to his left. Clover came down once again and hit the other one.

"I told you I didn't hit you. Why did you hit me when I said I didn't?"

"I didn't do anything." After that both of them turned so that they would see each other. Clover came down and hit both of them. The two grunts turned behind and didn't see anything. Fear took over their body and ran as fast as they could out of the cave.

"So simple minded." Lily said coming out of cover and taking the key from Clover. " You did great!! Scared the pants off of them." Then she went to the cages and opened all of them. " You're free. Get going before the poacher comes back. " She said freeing the pokemon. The wild pokemon were glad they were out and ran as fast as they could deep into the cave. " Ok that was the last of them." She said seeing as the last pokemon were out of her sight. Just then her PokePad started ringing.. She took it and saw that the professor was calling.

"Yes Professor what is it?"

"That's no way to greet the person who gave you your pokemon. And here I was worried you were lost in the cave."

"Sorry professor but I'm in the middle of something."

-One long explanation later-

"My dear, that was very brave of you but you should have called the police."

"They wouldn't have reached them in time."

"WHY YOU NOSY LITTLE BRAT!!!!!" somebody yelled a few feet away from Lily.

"Who's there Lily?"

"We're busted!!! Professor the boss is back see you later." she said ending the call and taking Clover and trying to head for the exit, but the poacher cut her path and was blocking the way out. He was a big bulky man. Lily turned around and wanted to run the other way but then remembered that the pokemon weren't very far so if she would run that way she would put them in danger. She turned around facing the boss.

"Not so fast missy. You owe me big time."

"I don't owe you nothing. They weren't your for the taken."

"Oh yes you do and you'll pay for every last one." He said taking two pokeballs and throwing them in the air. Two pokemon came out, a Flying purple colored bat and a black clawed pokemon . Lily used her Pokepad which was still in her hand to quickly find some information about them:

[PokeCommunity.com] Pokemon: A Fresh Start

"Zubat, blind Pokémon with supersonic powers. Zubat live in caves and hate to fly outside in daylight."

[PokeCommunity.com] Pokemon: A Fresh Start

"Sneasel, the Sharp Claw Pokémon. Sneasel can extend or retract its claws instantly during attack."

" Hey two against one isn't fair!"

"Kid I if you haven't noticed yet, I don't play fair. Zubat Gust! Snasel Ice Punch!" he shouted.

" Clover use String Shot to evade!!!!" Zubat was flapping its wings and unleashed a powerful Gust just as Sneasel was rushing towards Clover with its frozen punch straight forward. Clover used the String it Shot and climber up to the ceiling nearly escaping Sneasel's attack. However the wind was too strung and flew him away onto the ground just in front of Lily. "Hang in there Clover. We'll find a way to get out of here." Lily said trying to find a solution.

" Now you'll learn to stay in your place. You thought you could act hero and save everyone. But you're just one little fresh trainer that doesn't even have at least two pokemon."

" It doesn't matter, we'll still beat you. "

Just then Snorunt came out of hiding and walked onto the battlefield, shivering of fear but still determined to fight.

"What a joke. It's shaking in fear."

"Don't worry Snorunt, he doesn't know what you're capable of."

"Ha ha. Then let's see then. Zubat Leech Life on the bug and you Sneasel use Quick Attack on the scaredy-cat!."

"Clover Energy Ball!!! Snorunt use Double Team!" she yelled. Zubat evaded the attack with ease and pierced it's fangs into Clover draining its blood. Snorunt on the other hand managed to fight off Sneasel by using Rollout instead of Double team and knocked it back into the wall.

"HA HA HA HA !!!! The pokemon is not even listening to you. You suck at being a trainer. "

Lily couldn't respond. In a way it was true. Snorunt still didn't trust Lily despite her effort to befriend it and was fighting only to protect its friends that left. Lily decided that she just had to work with what she had and hope to win.

Clover managed somehow to free itself out of Zubat's fangs and after shaking its head to focus it was ready for a comeback. " Ok Clover use Tackle on the Zubat!! Snorunt use….." she hesitated a bit " Rollout again!" Clover dashed towards Zubat who was flying higher to get out of range. Snorunt didn't listen to Lily once again and instead of Rollout use Powder Snow on Sneasel which did little damage. " Clover use the rocks to jump!!" Clover jumped on one of the rocks and from there jumped higher and smashed into Zubat knocking it down. "That's it !!!"

"Don't get to happy missy. Zubat use Supersonic on both of them." Zubat started using its Supersonic waves to create an uproar towards Clover and Snorunt. The waves got to their ears but the only one affected was Snorunt. In started wandering off and hitting itself into every rock.

"Clover use your silk to get her back to normal up!" Clover understood and shot out a string of silk and used it as a whip and hit Snorunt on the cheeks to wake her up , but doing it without harming her badly. Snorunt recovered before the enemy could launch an attack.

"Drats!! But at least their separated. Zubat Bite, Sneasel Scratch. Both of you on the Sewaddle!!! I'll take care of the other one. " he said pulling out and an automated sling shot. He loaded it with some rock and shot them at Snorunt. The pokemon closed its eyes and was waiting in fear to get hit but nothing. It opened one eye and saw Lily protecting her looking at her with a smile. "Told you I'll protect you. Ahhh! " she said as the last rock hit her back. Snorunt couldn't believe her eyes…the same person she had attacked so many times was now defending her.

"How noble of you but I think you should care for your own pokemon. " He said pointing towards Clover who was sent flying into the wall.

"Clover nooo!" Snorunt looked at Clover. She stopped shaking and smiled at Lily then jumped over her and started rolling into an Rollout. "Snorunt!!!!" were her words as she smashed into Sneasel. Then she turned towards Zubat and sent in into the ceiling with a powerful Powder Snow.

" Thank you Snorunt!!!" Lily said getting up on her feet. " Snorunt!!!" the pokemon cried happy she saved Clover. The pokemon got up and brushed the snow off of him.
"I can't believe it…"

"Snorunt is as good as any other pokemon out there, even better and you just saw it with your own eyes."

"It's still worthless. You two weaklings get up!!!" he shouted towards Sneasel and Zubat who out of fear got back up on their feet. " Sneasel Ice Pung!! Zubat Bite!!! Let's finish it."

"Couldn't have agreed more. Clover jump. Snorunt use Double team. " this time Snorunt followed Lily's orders and used the attack to evade Zubat. Clover did the same Jumping over Sneasel as it was ready to hit him. "Now let's show him how powerful you are. Snorunt use Rollout on Zubat. Clover you jump on Snorunt and use Bug Bite at the right moment on Sneasel." Snorunt jumped and curled up into a ball then rolled towards Zubat with Clover on her. The previous battle gave Clover some helpful experience on rolling on Snorunt. As they were approaching their targets Clover jumped and went straight for Sneasel chomping on his body while Snorunt smashed Zubat into the wall leaving it there. Both pokemon fainted leaving the poacher defenseless.

"I'll get my revenge don't you worry. " the man shouted and turned and ran towards the exit. But he was *kindly greeted* by the local police as soon as he set foot out. Lily ran out and saw that the poacher had been arrested.

"Are you hurt young lady?"

"My back hurts a bit but apart from that I'm ok."

"You did a good job handling the poacher."

"It was nothing really. The pokemon are the ones who did all of the work." She said turning over to Clover who was beside her and Snorunt who was hiding behind her leg.

"Nevertheless you did well. Good thing the professor called us in time and sent us your location. Here let out medical officer treat your wounds."

" Thank you." She said heading over to get healed. While she was having her back bandaged she sent a message to the professor thanking her for her help and got a response congratulating her on her job well done and some get well greetings.

"We'll be taking our leave, thank you again for your help. Have a nice journey."

"Thank you." She said then turned out to the police car where the poacher was and waved bye-bye to annoy him.

After the police left she turned towards Snorunt and took her pokeball. " Thank you for your help. You were very brave. Here is your pokeball you are free to go now. " Lily said a bit sad as she took a liking to Snorunt. Snorunt looked at Lily and then at the pokeball and then back at Lily. The she put the pokeball into Lily's hand with a big smile. "So you want to join us?" " Sorunt!!!" the pokemon cried happily. Lily was more than happy to hear that. " Well then it means we'll have to find a name for you……what do you say about Winter?" " Snorunt!!" she agreed. And so Winter joined Lily's team acknowledge her as her trainer.

Chapter III - Route 44
Akira Nagano

Akira yawned widely. That trip through the Ice Path was not something that he wished to do again. Ever. Piled onto his recent lack of a good sleep, the long and cold journey through the icy cavern had taken quite a toll on him. His eyelids were starting to feel heavy and he occasionally found himself dozing off while still standing. Everything was relatively peaceful until he heard a shout from behind him, coming from the mouth of the Ice Path.

"Akira!" *pant* *pant* "It's me Jonah!"

Akira turned to spot the shy looking assistant from Professor Sequoia's lab. He hadn't spoken to him at the time, but his face was instantly recognizable. What surprised Akira was the strength of his voice; he hadn't been able to picture the scrawny assistant to be able to emit such a loud sound, albeit broken up due to apparent exhaustion.

"Oh, hey there Jonah. Was there something that I could help you with?"

Jonah walked over to him before placing his hands on his thighs while hunched over, still panting heavily. "Yeah…" *pant* "The Professor asked me to give you this…" *pant* "As a present."

Jonah took out a small square box and handed it to Akira. It appeared to be made of sturdy cardboard and was wrapped carefully. Before Akira could ask what was inside of it, Jonah spoke up again. "I've got more of these to give out…to the others…" *pant* "Uh, catch ya' later Akira!"

With that, Professor Sequoia's assistant sped off in a different direction. Akira felt a tad bit sorry for him, having to run all over Johto to deliver things for the professor.

Curiously, Akira carefully unwrapped the box and pulled out its content; a small round Pokéball. However, this ball was quite different looking than the five he had initially received from Professor Sequoia. Instead of the typical red and white color pattern, this one had green on its top and white on the bottom. On the green half, there were small red rounded-triangle patterns forming a semi-circle arching out from where the ball split from green to white. At the top of the semi-circle, there was a slightly larger orange triangle of the same shape as the other red ones. (A Friend Ball)

Akira turned the orb around in his hands with care. For all he knew, this could be a one-of-a-kind. Why would the professor give me such a device? Am I supposed to use it…or…?

He took an about face and walked forward, moving onto the Route 44. Despite his encounter with Jonah, Akira was still relatively tired and wasn't really paying attention to where he was going.

"SKWAWK!"

The piercing cry of a bird instantly woke from him from his trance-like state. Apparently he had accidentally stepped into a patch of taller grass which had disturbed the Pokémon in its sleep. Upon looking down at the source of the noise, Akira saw in front of him a small eaglet-like Pokémon with primarily blue feathers covering its body; however, surrounding its head was a large 'mane' of fluffy white feathers. Situated on its forehead was a large white feather with a patch of red at the bottom.

Akira looked somewhat embarrassed. "O-oh. I didn't mean to—"

The Rufflet glared at him with its eyes narrow, while at the same time puffing out its cheeks and ruffling its feathers in his way of saying "Well that doesn't help much /now/ considering you already woke me up!"

Akira looked absolutely bewildered; he had never seen a Pokémon give a person a look quite like /that/ before. Whatever it had been dreaming about, it must have been interesting. Despite the look he was getting, Akira was slightly amused.

Apparently the bird had noticed the look of amusement spread across Akira's face, as it then turned its head sharply to the right, emitting a huffing sound whilst doing so.

"Okay, look. If you're /that/ upset about it I can have my Drifloon battle you. If you win, I'll go and buy you something nice to eat. But if we win, then you have to come with us."

The Rufflet's eyes moved up towards the sky in a thoughtful manner. Apparently it had understood at least part of what he had said. After a moment's pause, it turned towards him in a more aggressive stance, accepting his challenge.

Akira grinned. He wasn't about to let this one slip away. "Come on out, Drifloon!"

The Pokéball opened and released the purple balloon-like Pokémon that so far was undefeated in battle. Akira slid the Friend Ball into his inner pocket and opened his mouth to shout out his first command.

Unfortunately, the Rufflet had much quicker reflexes than he did. With one lunge it landed a peck attack directly on Drifloon's face, sending the balloon-Pokémon smashing into the ground with force. Akira gasped.

The Rufflet hopped backwards after its successful strike on Drifloon, soon after turning his beak into the air ever so slightly in a taunting pose. After a few moments, Drifloon rose from its daze from the sucker peck and glared over at the Rufflet, highly embarrassed.

Rufflet beamed over at Drifloon as if to say "Bring it on~"

Akira was impressed, though he made sure not to show this to Drifloon.
"It's okay Drifloon, we've still got this!"

Without waiting for Akira's orders, Drifloon sped forward and smashed into Rufflet's side, sending the eaglet-Pokémon flying backwards into the 'Route 44" sign. It looked like it was meant to be an Acrobatics attack, but it wasn't nearly as graceful as the other times he had used the same move. Had Rufflet not been busy showing off, he probably would have been able to easily avoid Drifloon's sudden assault.

Rufflet let out an agitated squawk and wobbled slightly, dazed by both Drifloon's Acrobatics and the collision with the metal sign. It glanced over at Akira for a moment and then charged at Drifloon in an attempt at a Fury Attack.

"Dodge it, Drifloon!"

Drifloon probably should have dodged this, but once again seemed to block his trainer's words out, too focused on the battle at hand. Instead, she rammed her body at the oncoming Rufflet. The resulting collision caused both Pokémon to fall to the ground.

Akira suddenly realized that Drifloon hadn't had much rest since its battle with the Zubat in the Ice Path. How could he have been so foolish as to make such an amateur mistake? Well, he /was/ a rookie, but he still should have known better.

Both Rufflet and Drifloon looked dazed from the impact, though Drifloon seemed to have taken the worst of it. He had to do something fast, Drifloon probably couldn't take another impact like that. The Rufflet he wasn't so sure of. But now was his chance, maybe the only one he'd get.
With one fluent motion, Akira pulled the Friend Ball from his inner pocket and tossed it at the Rufflet. The green and white colored orb made contact with the bird Pokémon and pulled it inside, then began to wobble.

Akira crossed his fingers. After all, Rufflets were one of the flying-type Pokémon he was so fond of.

Come on…come on…

Moe and Ditzy make their way to the end of the Ice Path without any furthur incident, as expected. "Ah, good to be outside again, isn't it Ditzy? The sun's high in the sky, a pleasant breeze, and just look at this place!" Ditzy moves to Moe's other shoulder, putting his head between herself and the sun. "Oh, right. Bats are nocturnal by nature, aren't they? If it's any consolation, in a few hours, the sun will set!" Ditzy just gives Moe a flat look, glaring with her eyeless face. "Well it's true!"

"Hey! Are you one of the trainers who Professor Sequoia gave a Pokemon to?" Moe turns, seeing a man in a lab coat standing in the cave. "Yes, and who are you?" The man heads forward, and Moe notices the cardboard box he's holding. "Wait, I know you! You're Jonathon, right?" "I'm Jonah, the Professor's assistant. And she wanted me to give you something." "Jonah, right. Sorry. What do we have here?" Jonah holds out the box, pulling it back slightly. "Just take one, alright? The Professor had a bunch of these and figured it'd be nice if you all got one. So she sent me to find you all." He opens the box, which is filled with brightly-colored Pokeballs. "Ha! Fancy that! All differently colored and everything? Any one in particular you'd recommend?" "...Just take one." "Right! I'll take... this one!" Moe grabs a light blue Pokeball, with a white diamond pattern around the top half. "Looks neat, eh Ditzy?" "That's a Dive Ball. Use it on pokemon that live underwater. Or whenever, it works on land-based Pokemon too. Just not as well." He closes the box, turning around and heading back to the cave. "Well, he seemed like a rather nice person. Right, then. Allons-y."

As they walk down the path, Moe can't help but look at the scenery. Occasionally he sees small dark-colored Pokemon running parallel to the path, but they don't stay in sight long enough to scan with the PokePad. Ditzy tenses as one stops in front of Moe, growling. "Easy, Ditzy." He pulls out his PokePad, scanning the creature. "Poochyena, eh? Ditzy, think you can take it?" Ditzy nods, just as two smaller Poochyena run onto the path as well. They crowd around the first one, either unaware or uncaring of Moe and Ditzy. The puppies bark at each other, and Moe raises his hands as he steps back. "Sorry, ma'am. Go on ahead, we won't bother you." The Poochyena and her pups head off the path into the trees, casting a backwards glance to make sure Moe doesn't follow them. "Sorry, Ditzy. But three-on-one isn't fair, even if... no, especially if two of them are younglings. Besides, you're still a little roughed up from fighting Kerri in the cave. And I don't much like dogs."

They hear a roar from down the path, followed by a frantic male's voice. "But this we should have a look at!" They hurry down the path, Ditzy flying overhead to have a look. A Ranger is desperately trying to calm a rampaging Armaldo, armed only with a rope. "Easy there, boy! Ah'm not gonna hurt ya!" As Moe arrives, Ditzy hovers over his head, waiting for instructions. "Need a hand?" "Stay back, kid! This one's a bit fiesty!" "Ditzy, go in from the side and give it a blast of the 'sonic! That should put it off balance!" Ditzy swoops in, loud squeaks causing the Armaldo to cover it's ears in pain. Enraged, it swipes at Ditzy with it's sharp arms, a sickly purple glow covering the tips. "Watch out! It's usin' it's Cross Poison!" "Cross what? Ditzy! Move!" But Ditzy can't dodge in time, taking the hit full on. It knocks her back, where she hits the ground, bouncing twice before landing in a heap at Moe's feet. Moe scoops her up, but she tries to flap back into the fight. "No, Ditzy! You can't keep fighting! You're just barely conscious!" Ditzy struggles, but the Armaldo roars, taking a step forward. It promptly trips, falling onto it's face. "Ah got this! You get outta here 'fore he gets back up!" Moe recalls Ditzy into her ball, then rushes down the path.

Moe stops when he reaches a small pond, gasping for breath. "Right! Well. That was intense. Sorry, Ditzy, but you're in no condition to fight something that big. You're in no condition to fight at all, really. I'll travel with Cyndaquil for a while." He puts Ditzy's ball in his jacket pocket, pulling out Cyndaquil's. He calls the small rodent out, who yawns and stretches, his fire flaring to life momentarily. "Hello, Cyndy! Enjoy your nap?" "Quil!" "Good. What do you say we take a walk, eh?" "Cynda!"

Moe and Cyndaquil travel down the path, stepping around a group of people who are talking and laughing with each other. As they do, Moe notices the fishing rods, curiosity getting the better of him. "Hello, what's this? ... Free of charge to all with a Trainer's Liscense. Fantastic! I happen to have one! Come on, Cyndy! Let's try our hand at fishing!" Cyndaquil seems doubtful, but Moe has already scanned his hand and retrieved the fishing rod. "Alright, fish! Let's go." Moe sits motionless for a good minute, lure in the water, nothing much happening. Cyndaquil yawns loudly and purposefully, shaking Moe out of his staring contest with the water. "Hm? What is it, Cyndy?" Cyndaquil looks at Moe grumpily, pointing down the path. "Oh, fine. We'll head out. Just let me reel this back in." As he reels the lure back, something grabs it, pulling it back. "Ha! Fancy that! I actually caught something! What do you say now, Cyndy?" "Quil!" He mimes reeling the lure back in, waving his arms frantically. "Right! Reel it in. Come on, fish, work with me here!" He pulls back sharply on the rod, pulling a small blue Pokemon out of the water. It lands on the shore, standing on two feet. It stares at Moe with a creepy little smile, it's tiny unblinking eyes staring into Moe's. It spits out the lure, then jumps into the shallow part of the pond.

"Hey! Get back here!" Moe jumps in after it, the water rising up to his shins. "Ah! Cold!" He backpedals, tripping over something in the water. He falls down, crying out from the cold water again. A small blue head pokes up out of the water, looking at him in annoyance. Shivering slightly, Moe pulls his PokePad out to scan the creature. "Tirtouga, huh? It's positively adorable!" Tirtouga jumps forward, snapping at Moe's feet. "Ah! Out of the water! Out of the danger water!" Moe makes it back to shore, Cyndaquil waiting for him. He turns back to look at the water, looking for Tirtouga. "Where'd he go?" "Tir!" Moe looks down, Tirtouga snapping at his feet again. "AH! Cyndy, a little help?" Cyndaquil charges in, Tackling Tirtouga. Tirtouga rolls back onto his stomach, growling at Cyndaquil.

"Alright, Cyndaquil. Give him a Leer! Show him we mean business!" Cyndaquil stares down Tirtouga, who reacts by Withdrawing himself into his shell. "Right. Well that was pointless. Give him a good Tackle!" Cyndaquil shoulder checks Tirtouga, knocking the turtle back. Tirtouga responds by regurgitating a stream of water, knocking Cyndaquil back a few steps. "Not good! Cyndy, throw up a Smokescreen!" Cyndaquil's back flames flare up, filling the area with oily black smoke. Tirtouga spits out another Water Gun, hitting Moe in the shin. "Ah! Stop getting me wet! Cyndaquil, take him down with Wild Charge!" Electricity crackles through Cyndaquil as he charges forward, delivering a full-body slam to Tirtouga. Tirtouga doesn't even react, even as Cyndaquil staggers back from the impact. "What? He didn't even flinch!" Tirtouga is breathing heavily, but retracts his limbs and head into his shell, rolling towards Cyndaquil. Cyndaquil is knocked back, landing on his back. "Cyndy? You alright?" Cyndaquil struggles to rise, but collapses. Moe returns him to his ball, angrily glaring at Tirtouga. "Oh, now you've done it. Ditzy, teach this turtle a lesson!"

Ditzy emerges from her ball, flapping weakly. Moe winces as he remembers. "Oh, right. Armaldo, Sneasel. Use your Leech Life, Ditzy!" Ditzy swoops in, draining blood from Tirtouga. This reinvigorates her, enough to flap out of the way as Tirtouga rolls out toward her. "Go back for more, Ditzy! We've got him where we want him!" Ditzy drains more blood, but Tirtouga bites down hard on her wing. She falls to the ground, hopping back once Tirtouga lets go. "Oh no, no no no. Things are not looking good! Ditzy, how are you holding up?" Ditzy struggles into the air, her flight patterns more erratic due to her damaged wing. Tirtouga lays flat on his stomach, but lifts himself up to glare at Moe. "Okay, okay. Ditzy's in bad shape, Cyndy's completely knocked out, and Tirtouga's feeling weak. The question is, can Ditzy knock him out before he gets her?" Tirtouga spits out another Water Gun, but Moe jumps forward to protect Ditzy. The blast of water hits him in the back, and he angrily turns to Tirtouga. "Give me a minute! I'm thinking! I don't have many options, do I? Alright, Tirtouga. I have an idea. There is a saying, a phrase that Pokemon Trainers across the world use when faced with a tough Pokemon like you. That phrase is: POKEBALL GO!"

Moe throws his Dive Ball with full force, catching Tirtouga off guard. The ball hits, converting him into pure energy and trapping him inside. The ball lands on the ground, bouncing and shaking furiously. Moe holds Ditzy in his arms, watching the ball intently. "If this doesn't work, I don't think we can take him down. So, be ready to run."

chapter three - Route 44 (part I)
Ashton Elden, just outside of Ice Path

The two humans and the flying ice pokémon stormed out from the cave and felt the sunbeams melt the coldness away from their skins.

"Aaaah! I thought we would never get out of there!" Rebecca sighed happily.

"It's so warm here!" Ashton yelled as he fell down on the grass on purpose. "I could kiss the grass!"

"It's not that warm here, it's just a bit warmer than ice..."

"I could hug a bush!"

"We should probably get going and find a pokémon center or a city, don't you think?"

Ashton hugged a bush right then, and his reply became an: "Aaaaowch!"

Rebecca put her hands on her hips and raised an eyebrow. "Thorns?"

"No... a pokémon!" Ashton said, backing off and rubbing his hand. He had somehow burned himself, and as he backed off, a pokémon did indeed emerge from the bush, looking startled. It had a very exotic appearance, with orange horns and little blue eyes peeking out from a bush of white hair.

"What is that?" Ashton asked and pulled up his poképad. "A Larvesta?"

"Of course..." Rebecca said, viewing her surroundings more closely. "This is the area in Johto where they introduced ancient pokémon, revived from fossils. I'm not sure if Larvesta is a fossil pokémon, but maybe it's another exotic species that was drawn by this climate and the pokémon living here.

"You're saying there are many pokémon living here?" Ashton smiled and got up from the ground. He gave Cryogonal a look, which it returned cheerfully. "More pokémon to catch!"

Rebecca sweatdropped. "You're going to go out and catch more pokémon? Now?"

"What else do pokémon trainers do?" Ashton happily said, eyeing the poképad a bit more closely. The Larvesta was beginning to crawl back into the bush.

"They train the pokémon they have already got! Gosh, I'm normally pretty calm and collected, but you are starting to step on my nerves, Ashton Elden."

"I can train them all. You'll see. Cryogonal, let's capture Larvesta!" Ashton battleshouted.

Cryogonal shot forwards and sent Ice Shards towards the bug type. It was struck and turned around, looking offended. What had it done to first deserve an unpleasant squeeze from an unfamiliar human, and then getting attacked from a nasty ice beast from the cave? It fired an Ember attack back at Cryogonal. It struck it hard and made it cry out in pain.

"Huh? You're made of ice, shouldn't you be sturdy against a few embers?" Ashton wondered.

"Ice melts in contact with fire!" Rebecca said, moving up to him. "You've got the wrong tactics!"

"No, we can make this, right Cryogonal?"

"Cryooo!"

Larvesta didn't wait for them to attack again, though. It fired String Shot right at Cryogonal's eyes.

"Ah... wait... Cryogonal's body was so cold that I got a burn from touching it. Maybe... Cryo, bump into the rock over there!"

Cryo spun around aimlessly. "Oh, right, it can't see... but right in front of you now!" Cryogonal shot forward and bumped into the rock. The string shot had, just like Ashton guessed, frozen already and shattered upon impact.

"I can't believe it follows your every order..." Rebecca said. "Even when it means hurting itself."

Larvesta fired another Ember and Ashton gave out a new order instead of listening to Rebecca's mumbling. "Meet that with Ice Shard!"

The two attacks met at midpoint and the embers shattered the shards. But Cryogonal had already moved out of the way, coming in towards Larvesta from above. "Yeah, just like that!" Ashton cheered. "Make use of your levitating ability while your opponent is a worm on the ground! Use Bind!"

Larvesta finally discovered where its opponent was, and sent a String Shot upwards. It was a quick witted pokémon, apparently. Cryogonal let its ice chains fly and meet the String Shot, intertwining with them.

"They look... like they are having a pulling contest!" Rebecca remarked. It was true. Cryogonal now pulled in its ice chains, and Larvesta pulled in its String Shot.

"You can do it! Make it fall over!" Ashton called, totally lost in the battle.

"Ashton... don't you think it would be smarter to-"

Just before Rebecca could tell him her plan, Larvesta figured it out on its own. It snickered and cut off its string shot at its body. Result: Cryogonal fell backwards, right back into the rock from before. It was dizzy now and looked quite hurt.

"Oh..." Ashton walked up to it. "I'm sorry! I should have seen that coming... We'll use that strategy ourselves some time, right?" he told the pokémon.

"Goo... nal," was the response. Somehow, Cryogonal still looked like it was smiling when Ashton sent it back into its pokéball.

"Still happy after getting beaten by a wild pokémon... Why does that pokémon like you so much?" Rebecca asked, confounded.

"Is it so difficult to like me?" Ashton said, annoyed.

"Well, it's not always easy!" Rebecca said. Then were both interrupted by the Larvesta. It sent String Shot towards Ashton!

"Yuck!" he exclaimed as the strings bound his legs together and made him fall over. He managed to catch himself with his hands, but was now sitting down, an angry fire bug in front of him. "Waaaah! Let me go!"

"Can't you send out another pokémon? It looks like it doesn't think it's finished with you," Rebecca said worriedly and backed off a bit.

"Uh... right! But who?" He contemplated for only about a second, as Larvesta was now crawling up towards him with a menacing glare. "It's gonna eat me!!"

"It's way smaller than you," Rebecca said, skeptically.

"It can bite chunks off me! Aipom!!"

As he called out for his first pokémon, Aipom cracked through the confines of the pokéball and materialized between Ashton and the larva, without the trainer even touching the pokéball. Ashton smiled from relief. "Hey girl," he said.

"Aipom!" she said and blinked at him. 'Lemme fix this,' it was as if she was saying. Larvesta shifted focus from the human to the monkey.

"Okay," Ashton said and tried to stand up, but before he could utter an attack, the swift bug type fired off an Ember attack. Aipom was struck, but still stood up, getting enraged.

"Keep your calm, both of you!" Rebecca hinted. Aipom seemed to listen, even if Ashton didn't really.

"Sand Attack!" Aipom hurled a portion of dirt from the ground into Larvesta's face, making it shake its head and not see anything for a short moment.

"Now, Astonish," Ashton said a bit quieter to Aipom so that the larva wouldn't hear. Aipom ran up to Larvesta and as soon as it opened its eyes again, she let out a horrible squeak that startled Larvesta and made it totally flinch.

"Now we're calling the rapid attacks!" Ashton cheered, finally able to stand up, legs together. "Scratch!"

Aipom Scratched the larva and it seemed like it was starting to lose its focus, finally. It fired another Ember, but missed as Aipom jumped aside. Aipom used Scratch again and managed to make a String Shot miss her head and instead ensnare her tail. Even if it bothered her to have an alien substance around her tail, it was ok since she didn't near her tail for more than scratching and keeping balance right now.

"Finish with Bounce!" Ashton said, and Aipom jumped up high. But Larvesta recognized the attack from above, and fired Embers up there. Aipom couldn't avoid, and got struck. She managed to land just fine, but not on her target.

"Sky attacks won't work anymore!" Rebecca said from afar.

"Yes they will," Ashton said with clenched teeth. "Sand Attack!"

Larvesta heard him and was about to fire an Ember again... but Aipom was faster! Her Sand Attack hit Larvesta before the Ember were shot, and the fire attack missed.

"Now, Bounce!" Ashton called, once again completely focused on the battle and wouldn't have noticed if a war was going on around him. Aipom jumped up again and when Larvesta finally had rubbed the sand out of its eyes, it decided to look in front of itself instead of above. That's why Aipom's flying attack struck hard on the bug type pokémon.

Larvesta fainted in a little pile on the ground, and Aipom sighed, tired.

"Awesome!" Ashton said and didn't waste any time this time. He threw an empty pokéball from his backpack onto the Larvesta and hoped for the best.

"What a battle!" he said, patting Aipom who smiled weakly at him. "Let's rest now, shall we?"

"No, PLEASE!" Rebecca said. "I want to keep walking until we reach the next town," she said and did start walking away.

"Uh, but first... can you help us get out of this... mess?" Ashton asked weakly behind her. When she turned back around, she saw that his legs and Aipom's tail were still ensnared in the gooey bug strings. Eww... What a gooey duo they suddenly were.

Introducing Cooper

Having finally made it to Blackthorn city, Cooper immediately made his way excitedly to the rather obvious laboratory of Professor Sequoia. The 17 year-old had everything else he needed for his travels, all except the pokemon and trainer's equipment, of course.

The thought of knocking was absent in Cooper's mind, and he burst open the door to the lab.

"I'm heeere!" he exclaimed. However he was met by the stare of a man in a lab coat,

"You could have knocked..." he said timidly, "You'll be looking for Prof. Sequoia - she's over there."

Cooper saw the female professor and darted over to her - his excitement blatantly obvious.

"I'm here for all my stuff!"

Prof. Sequoia paused, "Your stuff?"

"Yea yea my pokemon and all that!" Cooper replied, smiling dumbly.

The professor sighed, "First of all, calm down. And secondly, I already have it all ready for you... Cooper, right?"

Cooper nodded. The professor presented him with a box.

"In here you'll find your Pokepad and six pokeballs - five are empty, and one has your Oshawott inside."

"Oshawott! All right!"

"While we're here," began Sequoia, "Would you like to give Oshawott a name?"

"Sure! Let's call him Ottoman!"

"O-kaayyy... oh also, what's that over there?" The Professor continued, pointing behind Cooper,

"What's wha- OW!" Cooper turned his head before feeling a sharp nip in his hand.

"I've just given you your trainer pass. It acts as your license to use trainer facilities and such."

"Oh, thanks..." Cooper said rubbing his hand.

"Now then - it's recommended that you have a brief visit to the Dragon's Den, in order to get used to your pokemon and get a taste of life on the road, that kind of thing."

Cooper's eyes lit up at the sound of Dragon's Den/ His eyes spotted a series of posters along one of the lab walls which were about said Den. He walked up to read them.

"Are these the pokemon you can find in there?" he asked in awe.

"Well..." Sequoia began, unsure sounding, "Yes. But they're no easy catch. People can be in those caves for days trying to find a dragon to catch."

Cooper was fixed one one particular creature. It was green, with large horizontal teeth.

"What's that one?"

"That's an Axew."

Cooper turned to her and grinned, "I'm going to catch one!"

"Cooper, don't get ahead of yourself!" Sequoia desperately shouted as cooper ran for the Den,
"These are dragons Cooper! Cooper!!"

**********

Dragon Hunting

Cooper stood outside the gaping maw that was the entrance to the Dragon's Den. He threw Ottoman's pokeball to the ground. From it, an Oshawott burst out and blinked.

"Hey buddy!" Cooper said, sitting down in front of it in order to achieve less of a height difference, "I'm Cooper, Cooper Philips! And your name's Ottoman! I'm your new friend, and my goal is to become the new league's first Champion! What do you say?"

Ottoman tilted his head in slight confusion.

"Come on! Think of the adventures and the thrills!" Cooper continued, "We'll meet loads of new comrades! And, if we work hard, we can achieve great things! Just the thought of it is getting me pumped!" he leaned in closer, "But the best part is: you're gonna be my main man!"

Ottoman smiled and spoke, "O-sha!"

"Al-right! First mission: catch a dragon pokemon! Think of the early advantage we'll have!"

Inside, the Den was quite well lit, however the darkness sprawled off and out in many directions. Which way to go, however, was the tricky part. And then there was actually finding an Axew...

"Ottoman: I have a plan." Cooper said, leaning down to speak to his companion, "We split up. I'll go down this tunnel, and you the opposite one. If either of us find a small, green reptile with tusks, then we'll call for the other, right?"

"Oshaosha!" Ottoman nodded, before plodding off in one direction.

"Awesome! See you in a bit buddy!" Cooper span on his heels and walked off into the opposite tunnel network. As he plunged deeper in to the darkness, he realised he couldn't see very well. Thankfully, his mother had insisted on him packing a torch, so he clicked it on and proceeded with searching.

After finding next to nothing for what felt like forever, Cooper was beginning to get bored. The best he had seen was some sort of burrow - like the kind a Diglett would create. However there were no Diglett in this Den, so that was a slight mystery to him. And there hadn't been any sound from Ottoman either.

'Maybe Sequoia was right...' Cooper thought to himself, 'Oh god what if I'M stuck in here for days as well!'

By this point, Cooper had found a rocky perch of sorts, and was sitting down on it, keeping watch of an exposed area in the hopes of seeing something. Suddenly there was a small rumbling, and Cooper found himself standing up in expectation. From the rocky surface emerged a small blue creature with a shark fin.

According to the PokeDex feature of the PokePad, it was a Gible. A pokemon that could dig underground.

Cooper slumped back down on his 'seat', "Well at least it solves that problem..."

The Gible then began hissing. Cooper realised that his torch was still on - forgetting that Gible, or anything in this cave, might not be used to bright artificial light. Just before he could call for Ottoman, a scraping sound could be heard. Gible noticed it too, looking in one particular direction with concentration. From the shadows, another creature emerged. Cooper could have squealed - he couldn't believe his luck. It was an Axew - he had finally found one.

"Axew: the Tusk Pokemon," beeped the pokedex, "They use their tusks to crush the berries they eat. Repeated regrowth makes their tusks strong and sharp."

"Yess! There it is!!" Cooper yelled in delight.

What he didn't notice was the Gible backing off, into its burrow again. Axew now focused on Cooper, drawing its tusks across to rocky floor - the source of the scraping noise. It was meant as an intimidation device, but it wouldn't work on Cooper.

"Prepare to be caught, Axew! Ottoman!!" He yelled down the way he came, signalling for Ottoman to show up.

But nothing happened. Cooper bit his lip - he didn't actually know how far away Ottoman was from him. Could he even be heard?

"Aaxeeewww..." the little dragon growled, scraping its tusks more as it approached Cooper. the boy gulped, realising he was on his own. In an instant, Axew jumped from its position on the ground, homing in on Cooper.

"Crap!" Cooper gasped, hastily jumping down from his heightened platform, landing with an uncomfortable roll and tumble on the hard, rock surface.

"Oowwww..." he moaned as he turned and faced Axew again. The dragon pokemon turned and stared down at Cooper, however his eyes were giving him a piercing sharp look. Cooper was fixed, stuttering as everything else around him seemed to go black. All he could see were the eerily glowing eyes of Axew. It was Leering him, and he was stricken with fear.

Suddenly, Axew leapt for Cooper again, claws outstretched. The teen, astill under Leer's effects, could only curl himself up, bringing his arms over his head in protection,

"Dammit Cooper..." he hissed to himself.

The blow, however, never happened. Looking up, Cooper saw Axew in discomfort, and causing that discomfort, Ottoman, skull rammed right in the dragon's ribs. He had heard him.

"Ottoman! You came!"

Axew continued to fly through the air, careering with the cave wall. Ottoman landed effortlessly on the floor, ready for battle,

"O-sha."

Cooper was teetering with excitement, "You're so awesome! Okay, time to put our skills to the test."

From the small pile of rubble, Axew burst out, shaking himself off and growling at Ottoman.

"Let's have a look here..." Cooper said, checking Ottoman's moves on his pokepad, "Okay then, use Scald!"

"Oshaoshaa!" Ottoman took a deep breath, before expelling a large pump of water. Steam rolled off of the liquid fiercly - that was some HOT water. Axew, however jumped to the side and out of the way, before kicking off and giving Ottoman a harsh Scratch attack. The otter pokemon's attack ceased as it spun on the spot before stumbling to its knees.

"Crap! Hang in there Ottoman! Tail Whip!"

Axew darted in for another attack, but Ottoman was quicker, slapping Axew's arm away with a swipe of his blue tail,

"Now Tackle it!"

Ottoman followed the move up, ramming full force into Axew while it was off balance. The green pokemon blurted out from the force, skidding back on its feet. It ground to a halt, before roaring in anger at the Oshawott,

"AAAAAAAXE!!"

"Scald!" shouted Cooper.

Ottoman released the boiling jet again, however Axew simply gave it a strong swipe with its claws, deflecting the blow and spraying the water to the side, rendering it useless.

"Wow... that's some power." Cooper said, before grinning, "I can't wait to catch you!"

"Zew." Axew replied, as if to accept a challenge. It then ran in fast for Ottoman again, ready to Scratch it,

"Same again Ottoman! Deflect with Tail Whip!"

Ottoman span round on the spot, slapping both of Axew's hands to the side, however Axew had a backup attack. Instead, using some of Tail Whip's momentum, it used its tusks to slash at Ottoman, who was thrown backwards, tumbling head over heels.

"Ottoman!" Cooper shouted.

"Shaa..." Ottoman panted as it staggered to its feet. He grinned at Cooper, showing he still had some fight in him.

Cooper grinned back, "That's what I'm talking about! Use Scald!"

Ottoman released another fierce pump of scalding hot water right at Axew.

"Now - stay right on its tail with Tackle!"

Axew, in another impressive display of strength, drove its clawed hand right into the Scald attack, slicing through it and sending it spraying behind it. However Ottoman gave him no room to breath, throwing himself into a full-body Tackle just as the water dissipated. There was a loud thud as Axew coughed up saliva from the forceful blow to its stomach. With a final push, Ottoman threw Axew back into a wall as he himself continued forward, flipping forward and landing on the floor with a grinding halt.

"Al-right!" Cooper yelled, readying a pokeball, however Ottoman suddenly froze in place, breaking a sweat. From the dust cloud of Axe's impact, said dragon pokemon came booming out, delivering a roundhouse of Scratches - using both its arms and tusks. Ottoman yelled as he received the flurry of attacks.

Cooper winced, fearing the worst, however suddenly, Axew burst into flames for a few seconds. The pokemon stopped attacking, screaming in pain, before the flames quickly dispersed, leaving Axew with burn marks.

"Wait..." Cooper said in realisation, "Scald can cause a burn!" he looked to Ottoman - the otter pokemon was close to falling over,

"Quick Ottoman! While it's staggering, use Scald!"

"Oh...osh..."

"I know, I know! Just one more, come on buddy!!" yelled Cooper in encouragement.

Ottoman ceased swaying around, crouching over, exhaling. The Oshawott then leaned far back, taking as big a breath in as he could muster, before unleashing a relentless looking Scald attack. The fierce jet flew towards Axew, ploughing through the small dragon. Steam roared from the constant steam as Ottoman continued the attack - he was going for a big one.

"You've got it Ottoman!!" Cooper yelled,

"OoooooSHAAA..."

"End this!!"

"OSHAWOOOOTTT!!" Ottoman let out one final roar. The force of the attack pushed Axew right back against the wall with great force, leaving the reptile unable to do anything at all. The attack finally ended, hot water spilling all over the cave floor, steam flowing through the air. Axew lay in a heap against the wall, blurting out water from its lungs.

Cooper seized the chance, throwing a pokeball and hitting Axew square in the forehead,

"Thanks, Ottoman!" Cooper's grin stretched from ear to ear as he watched the rolling ball tensely...

(OOC: The first part of this seems rushed and makes Cooper seem like a 6 year old :/ Oh well, hope all's good :D Oh and I've changed my mind about the nickname, as you can see :P)

Chapter Three
Part One
Isobelle Tyrone, Route 44

It took a little over an hour before Isobelle and Meowth made it to the Ice Path's exit. They were accompanied by Bagon, who was immensely happy to be out of his Pokeball and equally as thrilled to have made it out of the Ice Path and Isobelle's newly caught Pokémon Zubat, who fluttered continuously around Isobelle's head, every so often coming to rest on her shoulder. Isobelle had healed all of her Pokémon at the handy healing station situated within the Ice Path, which she was extremely grateful for and all of her team were feeling refreshed and ready to tackle the road ahead.

Having made it back into the sunlight, a relieved feeling washed over Isobelle. It seemed that her team had made it one step closer to the neighboring town of Mahogany, the Ice Path leading to a large area filled with pine trees and an array of small ponds. Overall, the whole area was a pleasant surprise to Isobelle, who was not used to the wafting smell of pine or the ponds which seemed to be teeming with life. For the first time since she'd said goodbye to her father and Poliwhirl, Isobelle knew this was the right decision for her. This was also a good opportunity to hunt for a water type Pokémon, which held a soft spot in her heart.

Isobelle was brought out of her day dream to Zubat fluttering overhead, having heard something emerging out of the cave entrance they had just come from. Isobelle turned her attention to the Ice Path tunnel to find a familiar young man running out of the tunnel, breathing hard as his steps echoed in the cave.

"Isobelle!" Her name sounded a little odd, coming from the young man who had hardly said a word when Isobelle had arrived at the lab. Now here was Jonah, looking all rosy cheeked, with a package in his arms. "I knew I had forgotten someone," He said before handing the package to Isobelle, who took it with a quizzed look on her face. "The Professor asked me to deliver that to all of the new trainers," He explained.

As Zubat perched on her shoulder to get a closer look, Isobelle opened the small box. Inside sat a shiny Pokeball. It looked normal enough, except the red top was a deeper, darker shade of red, unlike anything she'd ever seen. The white bottom of the ball glistened pearl white, instead of the standard plastic looking colour of all the other Pokeballs Isobelle had stored in her backpack.

"Thank you Jonah, please thank the Professor for me too," Isobelle said, closing the lid on the box. Jonah nodded in response.

"You're welcome," His words came at a mumble. "Good luck with the rest of your trip," He said before turning to make his way back through the Ice Path. Isobelle waved him goodbye before turning to her Pokémon, who had gathered at her feet whilst Zubat still perched on her shoulder. She stored the Pokeball carefully in her backpack before she pulled out three Pokeballs, returning each Pokémon to their ball, with the intention that the trip through this conservation area might be quicker if she were to travel by herself. After all, she was fairly used to hiking, the terrain around Cianwood having been her playground for so long.

Isobelle had only been walking for a mere half hour or so, enjoying the solitude of the forests before she heard a very loud crunch. She halted, freezing on the spot, listening for another sound. No more sounds could be heard though and Isobelle, after scanning the area and the tree line, kept moving forward. She kept her eyes peeled though, as she took the noise for being some kind of Pokémon. Maybe it was following her? Maybe it was something huge and scary and – right in the middle of her daydream about huge and scary Pokémon, Isobelle was instantly knocked off her feet, again. The young man had come from somewhere off to her right as she had passed an area thick with shrub and leafy trees. At a standstill on the ground, her mouth wide open and her eyes blinking to try and get her focus back, she stared at the guy who'd bowled her over. He wore a khaki coloured button up shirt with matching trousers, sturdy boots and had a dark coloured pack. Isobelle watched as he sheepishly retrieved his cap, which was decorated with the design of a Pokémon and positioned it on his head, hiding his untidy short brown hair.

"What do you think you're doing, knocking people over like that?" Isobelle said, picking herself up and brushing herself down. She hastily removed a couple of leaves from her hair. "I wasn't expecting people to be jumping out of bushes when I came to the mainland."

"Ahh, I'm really sorry about that," His voice was deep and defying and Isobelle stopped abruptly before clearing her throat. She was willing herself not to turn red. "I'm looking for a Pokémon but can't seem to get any lead on it's whereabouts."

At the word 'Pokémon', she let herself smile.

"You're a trainer?" She asked a bit too eagerly. The man just grinned, plucking a ball off his belt to show Isobelle.

"I train Pokémon, yes, but I wouldn't call myself that now. I certainly started out one, Miss…?" He trailed off.

"My name's Isobelle," She said, shaking his outstretched hand.

"It's great to meet you Isobelle and I'm so sorry for before. You can call me Robbie. Where are you headed?" Robbie twirled the Pokeball in his hands as he spoke, gesturing for Isobelle to walk with him. The track they were on more or less headed towards a camping ground, close to a large pond.

"I'm just making my way through the area," Isobelle replied. "What Pokémon are you looking for?" Funnily enough, Isobelle didn't seem to mind that she had been bowled over by this guy. What a horrible effect young men could have on young girls.

"Did you know that this area is kept in its prime for fossil Pokemon to be released here?"

Vaguely, Isobelle remembered hearing something, a while back, about fossils that had been revived and turned into living and breathing Pokemon being released somewhere. She didn't realise it had been here though and shook her head.

"I wouldn't have expected it to be here. Is that what you are looking for? Revived fossil Pokemon?"

"I'm looking for the evolution of some of the Pokemon that were released but I'm having no luck. The most recent thing I've caught was a Poochyena."

Isobelle hadn't really heard of that species before either and couldn't help but smile vaguely at Robbie before he grinned.

"How long have you been a trainer?" He quizzed, stopping in his tracks with that same grin on his face.

"Umm.." Isobelle couldn't think of what to say. She couldn't decide whether to be bothered trying to impress Robbie or not. She had the feeling though that he was too dedicated to his work to be interested in anything else. Besides she needed to focus on her training as well. "Not long, to be honest with you."

"That's perfect! I've been needed someone to battle the new Pokemon I've caught from this area!"

Great, Isobelle thought. She was going to be his guinea pig now. She wasn't sure if battling was a good idea or not but Robbie was already making his way to the opposite end of the track, this area just big enough for a small battle. Biting her lip, Isobelle fished in her backpack for a Pokeball as Robbie released his first Pokemon.

Isobelle guessed that his first choice was the Pokemon he had mentioned earlier, Poochyena. It was larger than her Meowth with jet black fur. It showed it's sharp looking teeth as it growled quietly. This sure didn't look like a playful puppy and seemed to contrast with Robbie's friendly personality.
Isobelle had two Pokemon who hadn't had any battle experience yet and this seemed like as good a time as any to try out either of Bagon or Zubat's skills. She picked out Bagon's Pokeball and let him out. He materialised in front of his trainer, quickly assessing the situation.

"This is our first trainer battle Bagon, let's make it count," Isobelle told the little dragon. Robbie offered his hand, indicating that she should make the first move. Isobelle made no hesitation. "Bagon use Bite!"

Bagon's reactions were quick. He leapt forward, making it to Poochyena before the dark type knew what was happening and clamped his jaw firmly into the Poochyena's neck. He quickly let go though, spitting fur out of his mouth as he went. Poochyena shook it off before growling fiercely at Bagon, who was too preoccupied to notice trying to scrape fur off of his tongue.
"Poochyena use Growl" Robbie instructed. At such a close range, Poochyena's growl was mighty loud, grabbing Bagon's attention very quickly. Meanwhile, Isobelle had to pull out her PokePad to refer to Bagon's other attacks. Both of his remaining attacks she had never really come across, so it was like a luck of the draw.

"Bagon use Rage!" Isobelle decided, gritting her teeth. She turned her attention to Robbie, who seemed to be enjoying the battle. In fact, it seemed like he was not taking it too seriously at all. For Isobelle however, this was extremely important. So important, in fact, that she had broken a sweat.

Bagon's body became staunch and he braced himself, his eyes closing as the moments passed. Isobelle, unsure of what was happening, watched helplessly as Robbie's Poochyena continuously tackled Bagon as he stood in the same spot, eyes closed, unmoving.

"Bagon! Do something! Use Bite instead!" Isobelle yelled, arms waving. She didn't want to run over to get Bagon out of the battle as Poochyena was continuously surrounding Bagon, teeth bared. All of a sudden however, Bagon's eyes shot open and Isobelle watched as Robbie grinned with delight. Bagon unleashed what could only be described as a mass of fury and vengeance on his opponent, who took the full force, being so close. In a moment, Poochyena was swaying unsteadily on it's paws before dropping in a heap to the ground, defeated. Isobelle couldn't believe what she had just witnessed. Robbie looked like he had been anticipating a defeat however and returned Poochyena to it's Pokeball without fuss before releasing another. The battle was not over yet.

Bagon limped back to Isobelle, who returned her partner to his Pokeball with the promise of a well-earned rest before assessing Robbie's latest Pokemon. It was short, fluffy, and stout and had a beak. It also seemed to be carrying a shell on it's bottom half. Isobelle recognised this Pokemon – it was a Vullaby. She pulled out Meowth's Pokeball for this and released the feline, who yawned before staring at the young chick, who fluffed up her feathers, trying to appear tough. This failed to faze Meowth however, who readied herself to attack.

It was Vullaby who managed the first attack, Robbie instructing her to use Gust. Despite her small stature, Vullaby's Gust was strong, indicating that this wasn't her first battle. Meowth was knocked off her paws, blown backward by the Gust. Isobelle even felt herself being forced backward slightly, though it wasn't anything she thought Meowth couldn't handle.
"Meowth use Scratch," She instructed just as Vullaby stopped flapping her wings. Meowth launched herself towards the chick, stopping in front of her before slashing her claws at her body. The chick did manage to get out of the way before Meowth had finished, not escaping without damage though.

"Vullaby, use Fury Attack!" Another attack Isobelle was unfamiliar with, she watched as Vullaby's speed and accuracy surpassed Meowth's skills, who was pushed to cowering on the ground, in fear of Vullaby's lethal beak. It was at that moment Isobelle knew she had to do some serious training with her Pokemon.

"Quick Meowth, use Bite!" It was only in a moment's break in Vullaby's Fury Attack that Meowth managed to sink her teeth into thee chick's right wing. Meowth held on for as long as she could, Vullaby's cries deafening as the pain came on before she let go, staggering backwards, her fur dishevelled from the Fury Attack. It was lucky no blood had been drawn. Vullaby seemed to have tears coming from the corners of her eyes as she failed to respond to Robbie's commands for a Gust attack. She seemed too overtaken with the pain of the Bite or maybe she was too young to understand winning and losing. Whatever the case, Meowth's one last Scratch attack did the honours and Vullaby fell unconscious.

In an instant, Isobelle had rushed over to Meowth, picking the Pokemon up in her arms and hugging her. She couldn't have asked for a better partner Pokemon. Meowth knew that, of course but she was glad Isobelle finally saw that. Robbie approached her after returning Vullaby to her Pokeball.

"You have some talent," He said, offering her a Potion. Traditionally, they came in a small spray bottle. Isobelle gently sprayed the medicine on Meowth's wounds. The Fury Attack had occurred mostly on her back but the Potion seemed to do the trick, getting rid of most of the pain and swelling in an instant.

"Both your Pokemon had strong attacks," Isobelle replied. "Thanks for the battle." The pair headed down the remainder of the track as it opened up into the campsite area.

"It was my pleasure, after all, I asked you to battle," Robbie said as he led Isobelle to a small spot that had been recently used as a campsite. "As I said, Poochyena and Vullaby are my two newest Pokemon."

"What other ones have you got?" Isobelle asked, setting down her pack and Meowth before making herself comfortable on a rock. It continued like this for the rest of the evening, the pair querying each other and Robbie sharing his travelling stories. For Isobelle, it was good to have some human company, surprisingly. Turns out Robbie had a bit of a good hand with food too. Isobelle had let Bagon and Zubat out of their balls too which led to Robbie releasing the rest of his team. This consisted of an Ivysaur, a Pidgeot and scarily enough, a Nidoking. No wonder he had only battled Isobelle with his newest Pokemon.

There was a large pond nearby the campsite and after dinner, Isobelle went exploring. She found, to her delight, mechanical fishing rods set up on the bank of the pond. Being around the sea most of her life, she'd done a lot of fishing with her father. Robbie, surprisingly, had not. So Isobelle spent the better part of the evening showing Robbie what to do, even if it was just in a pond. Very soon, both of their rods were getting bites, though nothing had surfaced yet. They still had about an hour of daylight left though, there was still time…

chapter three - Route 44 (part II)
Ashton Elden, Route 44

When they had finally gotten all the sticky threads off Ashton and Aipom, the pokémon remembered that they had a new member in the team. She skipped away to the newly filled up pokéball and fetched it for Ashton. Giggling, she jumped up onto his shoulder and reached out to give it to him.

"Oh... Larvesta! Do you know what this means?" Ashton asked the monkey, who eagerly nodded. Rebecca looked closely. What?

The duo high fived, Ashton with his free hand and Aipom with her newly freed tail "hand".

"That's what catching a pokémon means?" Rebecca asked, disappointed.

"Hey, high fiving is cool!" Ashton said with a warning tone. Just then, somebody else's voice was heard, yelling. Both humans and Aipom turned their heads to see a boy run out from the cave, some ways away. He was panting and seemed to have run all the way through Ice Path... or at least walked really fast. It wasn't until he caught up with the trainers that Ashton recognized him.

"Hey, you're that boring guy from the lab," he blurted out.

"Ashton!" Rebecca said, surprised.

Jonah gave Ashton a stare. "I am Jonah, professor Sequoia's assistant," he said, directed more to Rebecca than to the boy. She nodded and smiled weakly at him, glancing at Ashton at the same time.

"To think that you managed to go all the way here!" Ashton said, crossing his arms and smiling.

"I only came because professor Sequoia asked me to," Jonah said, pouting in a way that bore much resemblance to Ashton's usual face. "She told me to give you this," he added and shoved a square box into the hands of the other boy. "Bye." Then he turned and went back towards the cave.

Rebecca watched him go with worried eyes. "Did she send him all this way on his own just to give you a present?"

"It's probably a stink bomb," Ashton said skeptically, turning the package over in his hands. No label or anything. "Should I open it?"

"Why not?"

Ashton did. It contained one single pokéball, but it didn't look like an ordinary pokéball. It had a green top and small red adornaments on the green, surrounding the button.

[PokeCommunity.com] Pokemon: A Fresh Start

"Ah! That's a friendball!" Rebecca said, eyes widening when she stared at it.

"Friendball? That sounds incredibly cheezy," Ashton yawned. "What kind of present is that?"

Rebecca glared at him. "They are quite expensive, you know. Said to make the pokémon caught in it friendlier towards the trainer than it would usually have been."

"Well, I have lots of friendly pokémon already!" Ashton said with a proud smile, arms still crossed and Aipom on his shoulder, imitating his pose.

"You've got a dinosaur that communicates with you by biting you, you've got a bat that you hardly know, a worm that was angry last time we saw it and... well, Cryogonal is quite friendly though." Aipom gave out a little squeak. "And you, darling," Rebecca added and patted her on the head, which made Aipom smile contentedly.

"Argh. Well, it might come in handy. Don't know if I believe that power of it... but another pokéball is always good. Let's go already? I'm getting so hungry..." Ashton pouted.

They did go on, and soon they reached an area where the pine forest was less dense and ponds were strewn over the landscape here and there. At the shore of one of them was what looked like a mechanical fishing pole.

"Look!" Ashton said, pointing at it with an amused look. "Maybe we can fish for something to eat there?"

He and Aipom started to trail off the path. "Eat a pokémon?!?" Rebecca shouted after him, but followed.

"How does this thing work?" Ashton said after trying several ways of maneuvering it for a minute or so. Just then, the arm with his Licence Chip came under what was apparently a scanner, because it scanned the chip and the machine sprung to life. "Cool," he commented.

Using the machine, he managed to fish up... absolutely nothing. "What a worthless piece of junk!" Ashton said, kicking it lightly after 10 minutes of nothing happening.

Rebecca sat on a rock by the water some meters away, Aipom leaning against her leg and Rattata sitting beside it. "You're too impatient. Though this is why I never went fishing with dad..." she mumbled and rested her head in her hands. She then rummaged through her bag for a while before finding what she was looking for. A map. "It looks like there's a camping spot where we can rest for a while, right down this path..."

Ashton was really sour looking by now. But the fish of these ponds probably weren't so tasty anyways... Just when he said that, he caught something spying on him from the water, in the corner of his eye. When he turned to look, it dived down. "Rrrrrgh... I'll get you!" he yelled and grabbed the fishing pole again, making it do another sweep. It mostly did the fishing on its own but this one was broken for sure, Ashton thought. He pressed a button that said 'manual override' and got to steer it on his own. Maybe Ashton had a hidden talent for fishing... for after only seconds, the machine told him that it had caught something. He quickly rolled it up, but the fish struggled to get free. Ashton grabbed the pole with his own hands and pulled. "I... will... eat you!" he shouted, and won the fight. The pokémon was thrown up on land.

It was really a fish. Rebecca was surprised and kept her distance. The fish didn't really keep still; it wobbled around on the ground, probably eager to get back into the water.

"It's... a Remoraid," Ashton said with an eyebrow lowered, looking on his PokéPad. "Doesn't look tasty."

"YOU'RE NOT MEANT TO EAT THEM!"

"Oh. But it's a pokémon, isn't it? I'll just capture it instead!"

Rebecca facepalmed. "Not again..."

"Cryogonal!" Ashton said and released it from its pokéball. The ice pokémon greeted him warmly... or as warmly as an ice pokémon could. "Let's battle Remoraid!" Ashton told it and pointed to the place where Remoraid had been just some seconds earlier... but wasn't now. Their eyes darted to the shore, where they could just see Remoraid jump back into the water.

"No you WON'T!" Ashton said, annoyed. "Cryogonal, can you dive?"

Cryo gave its trainer its happy face and hovered away to the pond, jumping in without a second thought.

"I don't know if that'll work..." Rebecca said. Ashton was about to argue, when he saw the surface of the pond starting to freeze over, right where Cryogonal had jumped in.

"Uuugh, Cryo, come back up!" Ashton called out and ran to the shoreline.

Cryogonal did hear him and came back up, chunks of ice sitting on its body when it emerged. "It freezes the water around it!" Rebecca said, blaming Ashton for not realizing something simple as that.

"Sorry," Ashton mumbled. But Cryogonal simply spun around, letting the chunks of ice fly like spikes down into the water, and when it was free it smiled - in its eerie way - at the trainers again. "Haha. You're ok, aren't you?" Ashton said.

Just then, Remoraid came back up to the surface near them again. It rubbed its head with a fin, looking like something had just hit him there. Asthon finally got a bright idea.

"Cryo, Ice Shard!"

Cryo didn't wait with complying. It fired newly formed chunks of ice towards the Remoraid, knocking it down into the water.

"Don't you think it will flee if you make it go down under the water?" Rebecca asked, now standing on top of the rock to get better view. Rattata and Aipom had found another rock to stand on, cheering Cryogonal and Ashton on.

"It's notthat big of a pond..." Ashton said, but admitted that there was some reason behind that.

"Cryogonal? Can you reach down with your chains and Bind Remoraid?" he asked.

"Cryoooo!" the pokémon roared and flew close to the surface of the pond, spying down. It seemed to find Remoraid somewhere at the middle of the pond, because it sent down its chains underwater.

"Quickly so you won't freeze all the water around the chains!" Ashton called out.

"I doubt the chains are as cold as its body..." Rebecca said.

"How come you think you know everything?" Ashton said, finally losing it. "You can't keep quiet, can you?"

Rebecca blinked at him. "Sorry," she said quietly.

Cryogonal brought Remoraid back up, bound in the ice chains. The fish was struggling to get free. Suddenly, it began glowing with some kind of power. Ashton narrowed his eyes as Crogonal floated across the pond towards him. Then, a Water Gun hit Cryogonal right between the eyes. It got so surprised that it threw its foe up into the air... and Remoraid landed behind Ashton, on land. It flopped around, but seemed more focused now. It started glowing again.

Ashton suddenly realized that he was waiting for a comment from Rebecca now, explaining something about what was happening. He turned to see her bite her jaws together, promtly shutting up. He felt an unfamiliar sting...

Remoraid fired its water gun again, hitting Cryogonal right in its eyes. "It's got awfully good aiming skills..." Ashton said and picked up his poképad again. "Maybe that glowing thing has got something to do with it?"

The poképad told him, when Remoraid began glowing for the third time, that it was Lock On. Made the next move sure to hit. Whoa. "Dodge!" he called out to Cryogonal. But it didn't help. The next Water Gun was another direct hit on the ice pokémon, even though it did its best to dodge. Cryo was getting tired.

"Cryogonal, Ice Shard!" Cryogonal obeyed and fired its shards against the water type, and hit. The Remoraid was somewhat less sturdy than the crystallizing pokémon and seemed to be rather roughly hurt by the shards, even though ice normally didn't damage water types much, according to the poképad.

"Now, Bind!" Ashton said when he saw Remoraid trying to flee down into the water again. Cryogonal had to swing its chains several times before it caught the slippery fish. "Now, squeeze!" Cryogonal did so, and Remoraid shouted. It started glowing... "Throw it down on the ground!"

Remoraid didn't have time to start its Water Gun before it hit the ground hard. Cryogonal finished with a last swarm of Ice Shards, and that was too much for the poor fish. It fainted.

"Yeah, lunch!" Ashton cheered, Aipom and Rattata joining the chorus and Cryogonal laughing heartily.

"No, don't eat it! You said you would capture it?" Rebecca said, walking up to them from her rock.

"Oh, right..." Ashton looked through the pockets of his jacket and found... the friendball. "Hmm. As good as any, I guess," he said and threw it onto the fish on the ground.

- - - - -

Later that day, they were at the camping site and had lit a fire. They had eaten lunch, from what Ashton and Rebecca had brought in their backpacks. Ashton was starting to realize it could be tedious to carry around fine food for every kind of pokémon he owned now. He fed his pokémon with the dragon and normal type food for now, and even though some seemed to dislike it a little, it went down... and didn't come up again.

"Hey," Rebecca said as they sat around the fire in the afternoon sunlight. "Sorry for earlier."

Ashton blinked and remembered. "You're sorry? You shouldn't be... I mean... I guess I was... you know." He couldn't seem to apologize for his own behavior. But Rebecca understood, and smiled.

"I know you can handle yourself well on your own. When we get to the next town, we can part ways and you won't have to bear with my comments anymore. It's just that... I think... Maybe I care... I care about you not getting yourself into stupid situations," she said and blushed.

Ashton blushed as well. "I, uh... I don't want you to leave! I mean, you dont' have to. I like your comments, sometimes. Well, I don't really like them, but they are useful... you're wise. I'm not really the wise type."

Rebecca's smile grew warmer. "Maybe I'll stay with you for a while, then."

Ashton still blushed hard, but smiled weakly back at her. Girls... maybe they weren't so bad after all. At least not Rebecca.

Blackthorn City and the Dragon's Den
Chapter 1

Prof. Sequoia's Lab looked more like a bachelor's apartment than a proper lab, if the labs in Pallet and Nuvema Towns were fair to compare by. Although imposing from outside, the steel structure had turned into a bit of an uncomfortable place upon walking in. The posters that littered the walls were cool and gave the lab a proper Blackthorn City feel, and yet, the coziness that emanated from other labs seemed sorely absent here. It almost made Franco shudder when he noticed this, and Jonah, misinterpreting this for a sickness, had gone as far as to offer him a tea.

Franco chuckled. "No, I'm fine thank you. Could you lead me to the professor, though?" Jonah squinted his eyes visibly, but shrugged it off and led the Pokémon trainer to another room.

"Ah, I suppose you are Mr. Marinetti." Prof. Sequoia said as Franco walked into the room led by Jonah. "Thank you very much Jonah." The professor said eyeing her assistant. "Please go back to what you were doing."

"Ma'am." Jonah replied simply as he walked back out the door.

Once he had shut the door, Franco was the first to speak: "They failed to inform me that the professor here would be so lovely." He said with a smile. "I might've dressed more accordingly."

The professor seemed disinterested. "First name?" she asked, plainly.

"Franco." The teen responded a bit taken aback.

"Very well. I suppose I don't need to tell you you're late, Mr. Franco." The professor chided as she motioned for the teen to approach her. "Here, this Poké Ball holds your starter Pokémon, you should be familiar with it; it is a Pokémon native to Unova."

Franco took the Poké Ball from the professor with his left hand as she took a hold of his right. He released the Pokémon and was surprised to see a yellow, well, fuzz ball standing by his feet. Franco gulped. To be honest, he'd had a horrible experience in Chargestone Cave in Unova, where these little miscreants had ambushed and overpowered the trainer. They'd fed on the static energy stored in his clothes, and left him as soon as they had attacked, but the memory of their little claws crawling over him still… "AHH!"

The sudden sting on his right hand brought his wandering mind back to reality. He yanked his hand from the professor's grasp and rubbed it with his left before Sequoia could explain.

"Come on now; it wasn't that bad." She said in a childish tone.

Franco looked his hand over and noticed redness on the back of his hand. He gave it a peck with his lips, which somehow reduced the sting of it. "What was that?" He asked confused. He'd set out on two journeys before, and this was his third. He'd met more professors than he could keep count on, but this… No one, had told him of this.

"It is a License Chip that will be used mostly for purposes of avoiding theft identity." She responded in a distant manner, as if unaffected by Franco's reaction to it. "I've come to learn in my short time as a professor that it is a lot easier to apply on an unaware trainer…" Realizing that was all she meant to say, she shrugged. "Here, you should also take these."

The professor handed Franco five Poké Balls, and a PokéPad. And now, they were done. "I'd recommend visiting Dragon's Den, by the way." Finding the Dragon-type Pokémon of 'the Den' may be hard, but they're almost impossible to find anywhere else." She said, as Franco made his farewells and left her lab.

The day was hot, and Franco decided to stop before entering the Dragon's Den to purchase a Popsicle from a street vendor. Joltik, who had been perched atop his shoulder this whole time, seemed happy enough with her trainer, and muttered "Tik, tik, tik" whenever she felt static build up on his clothes.

"You're a gluttonous little fella, ain't ya?" Franco said cheerfully once as he reached over and grabbed the tiny Pokémon. The Joltik, looking up at Franco with her cute, blue eyes, seemed a precious little thing. Having a clutter crawl throughout his body in Chargestone Cave had been a little worse than scarring, he had to admit, but the one Joltik, standing no taller or longer than four inches, with her cheerful personality seemed so utterly harmless that it seemed to brew other doubts in the trainer. "Well," he said standing up. "Let's see what the smallest Pokémon in existence can do to the legendary Dragons of Blackthorn City!"

And so, trainer and Pokémon walked bravely into the Dragon's Den…

And then they kept walking… and walking… and walking, until they came across a large, still lake with crystalline waters.

Franco, tired and panting, finally gave up and dropped on his ass before laying down on the floor, forcing his Pokémon to scramble over to his stomach or be smashed. "Tik tik tik tik!" she screamed in frustration, forcing a sorry out of the Cerulean native.

"How long have we been walking?" Franco finally asked, knowing full well that his starter hadn't really been part of the hike. He took a look at his Pokétch, and much to his dismay noticed that it had been a full three hours since he entered the cave. "Aww" he lamented himself, "it'll be full dark by the time we get out of here…"

Disappointed in the lack of Dragons so far in the so-aptly-named cave, he reached into his backpack for a loaf of Italian Bread, and broke a chunk of it off with his hands. He ate some crumbs, and threw some into the clear water. He'd also given his Joltik a bit of bread, but the Pokémon didn't seem to be fond of the tangible food, and opted to go back to nibbling at his clothes. Franco was all but done with his bread when he noticed a ripple on the water.

Dragging himself over to the water bank, he threw another piece of bread, and caught a glimpse of something grabbing it and withdrawing before setting off more ripples. "Joltik." Franco whispered. "I need you to use Thunder Wave when I throw another piece of bread at the water, can you do that?" He had read his Pokémon's entry on the PokéPad beforehand, in order to familiarize himself with the Electric Bug.

"Joltik!" His Pokémon squeaked as it jumped forward from his shoulder. Franco threw a bigger piece of bread at the water to ensure that whatever that was would come again, and as if on cue, it snatched the breadcrumb from the water surface as soon as it had landed. Thankfully, it wasn't the only fast Pokémon around, and Joltik managed to catch it with a swift Thunder Wave, which made the serpent-like Pokémon fall on land, paralyzed.

"Dratini!" the Pokémon cried as it landed on the hard surface of the cave.

A Dratini, the paramount species of Dragon-types! Franco felt his breath leave him for a second before realizing that the Pokémon was prime for catching. "Good job Joltik! Now use Charge Beam!"

"Jooooool-" his Pokémon murmured as static built on its furry hide, and sparks began to fly. "Tiiiiiiiiik!" The Attaching Pokémon screamed as a powerful beam of electricity caught the paralyzed Pokémon head-on.

"Good job Joltik!" Franco exclaimed as he approached the spot where the Dratini had lay. He cleared away the smoke by fanning it with his hands, and then he noticed it. Dratini's skin color had turned reddish brown like rust, and it smoked heavily. Worse of all, the Dragon-type showed no signs of movement.

Franco was completely perplexed until, when he tried to reach for the wild Pokémon, it crumbled and turned to dust. He reached for a dry scale, dumfounded, before he heard his Pokémon's yelp for help: "Jolt!"

Turning around, he saw Dratini coiled tightly, and turning tighter and tighter. It took the confused trainer a second to realize that the scorched Dratini had been nothing but its Shed Skin, and that now it was Wrapping his Pokémon violently. "Joltik!" he cried out in desperation. "Use Thunder Wave again!"

His Pokémon obeyed, but this time Dratini was faster to Shed its Skin, and it simply looped around the Pokémon, Wrapping it tighter.

Damn! Franco thought bewildered. Would he really allow himself to be outsmarted by a wild Pokémon?

"Use Charge Beam again!" he cried out, but Dratini simply let go of the Bug-type when her hairs bristled out with static, and dodged the second beam. It was at this point that Franco noticed from his Pokémon's movements, that Dratini had used Thunder Wave on her. Maybe he would be outsmarted by a wild Pokémon…

Franco shook his head bewildered. "Stay still!" he ordered his Pokémon when he noticed the difficulty of its movements. Pokémon were strong, even wild Pokémon, if ever man had had an advantage over these creatures they shared their world with, it was in their wits, so Franco understood that he should just think, think and outsmart this Pokémon…

Joltik stood near the edge of the lake's water, and the water was as still as it had been when they first reached it. No ripples meant that the Dratini had withdrawn away from the lake into dry land, and would attempt to go back to the waters. However, it was hiding, and Franco knew there would be no way for him to find the elusive Dragon-type, not in its dimly lit natural habitat at least, but he wasn't about to admit defeat. He might've, honestly, had his opponent been anyone else, he might've thought to spare Joltik further punishment, after all, Joltik was four inches of hair, and Dratini was, well, it was a Pokémon that you simply don't let go once you find it.

"Joltik, I need you to block the way back to the lake, use Spider Web."

"Jolt!" his Pokémon replied as it shot a continuous strand of silk from one wall, up to the roof, and to the other wall, forming a massive Spider Web that sealed the battlefield from the lake. This way, Dratini would be forced to engage them if it meant to escape back into its lake.

Franco waited a few seconds, but the Dragon-type seemed reluctant to attack, which told him that it was hurt and meant to counter his Pokémon, but he was glad to take the bait.

"Joltik, use Charge Beam again!" he roared.

"Tik?" his Pokémon asked confused. There was no enemy in sight, and she surely didn't want to waste energy without a motive, but she listened. "Tiiiiiiik!" she screamed as she shot a powerful beam of electricity at some rocks to her right, and stopped as soon as the Dragon-type ambushed her from the left, Wrapping her once more.

"Good." Franco told himself, confusing anyone who might've heard. "Now! Use Leech Life!"

Joltik burrowed her teeth deep into Dratini's flesh, sucking energy lustily. The wild Dratini tried wrapping the small Pokémon tighter, but as it coiled around, it could only manage to turn the Attaching Pokémon with it. Finally understanding that it would not win this battle, Dratini went ahead and Shed its Skin once more, in order to rid itself of the parasitic Pokémon.

But Franco had been waiting for that moment precisely. "Catch it with a Thunder Wave now, Joltik!"

"Jolt!" his Pokémon cried catching the retreating Pokémon with the Electric attack, and struggling to let go of the Shed Skin.

"Dratini!" the wild Pokémon complained, as it fell before Franco. Joltik began to Charge up another Beam when his trainer motioned for him to stop. Looking at the Dragon-type lying before him, tired and unable to Shed its Skin just yet, Franco could feel almost sorry, he knew he'd feel bad to catch such a majestic Pokémon, but he wouldn't be the first nor the last…

"I hope you'll accept me as your trainer." He told the Dragon-type as he dropped the Poké Ball on its head. The Poké Ball opened and engulfed Dratini, and upon closing began to shake. I'll be gracious to you too. He thought to himself. If you can't accept me as your trainer, I'll let you stay in your lake…

((OOC: Well, I'm not really good at writing accents, so I abstained from doing it, but he was fun to RP regardless. :)
I'm sorry if this was a bit long, I'm guessing most of my posts will be about the same while I try to catch up.
Also, could I get a female Dratini for Christmas? Pleeeaaaase? :cheeky:))

@Drunk - Don't worry about the accent, I've playde enough Assassins Creed to have it ingrained in my brain (; And also don't ever worry about long posts, I enjoy reading them, and you're a good writer. Also great use of Dratini's ability.

Joltik grew to lv. 6!
Franco caught a lv. 5 female Dratini with the Egg Move Iron Tail!
