I can't believe that my all-time favorite spinoff is ten years old. It felt like just yeasterday that I led my Umbreon, Espeon and company to defeat Cipher and Evice.

To those of you who have ever played this game, what is it about Colosseum that will always stay with you?

For me, it was the dramatics of the game. While the storyline was undoubtably cheesy, it was very gripping, and a great change of pace from the usual heldheld games.
(I feel pretty dorky for bringing this fact up, but it is important to me.)

Is it really? I remember seeing the issue of Nintendo Power about it and getting my dad to buy it for me. Then I saved up until release date, as well as counted the days until (so March 22nd is permanently burned into my brain) and all the memories playing and replaying. It's my favorite spin off by far, and it fills me with so much nostalgia. Just last year, I did a Normal monotype in it, and it was tons of fun! It's a bit difficult to monotype a game with a limited variety of Pokemon, but Normal was the most abundant, haha.

This game means a lot to me, though. It's something I was proud to save up for, which isn't easy when you're 11 with no job. I loved linking up with my Ruby and Sapphire, and it was awesome having Johto Pokemon in those games since not everyone had the cable to do so. I did the quest to get Ho-Oh as well. It's a great game and for me personally, it's aged well. I get addicted to playing it now as much as I did my first time.

    Wow, 10 years already?
It's one of few Pokemon games I have actually finished 2 times.
I fell in love with mechanics and characters immediately.
With PMD it's one of my favorite spin-offs.
Wes, Rui, Shadow Pokemon, snagging, 3D sprites, battle tower. I seriously can't find anything I would find particularly bad about that game =D

Huh. That's quite a long time ago now, dang.

It's also my favourite spinoff, and a game I vested in pretty heavily. After all, I did write a full blown parody fic on the game! (If you like colosseum, you all should read it. =p) So now I know the game pretty well, haha.

Why I like it? Mixture of reasons. I love double battles, and this (and XD) is basically double battles the game. It has its flaws (no routes, not so many Pokémon, etc), but it was pretty unique for a Pokémon game, and had a much more interesting protagonist, attempted story and much more interesting villains (certainly up to gen 4 the higher ranking and even lower ranking characters in the criminal team were nowhere near as intriguing or fleshed out as the likes of Miror B, or Ein, etc).

Also, you started with Espeon and Umbreon, and got a Johto starter soon after too. Hard to not like that. =p

...you know, I'm seriously tempted to play it again as a sort of celebration. After all, I never did a playthrough with Quilava yet! :B

Wow can't believe it's been that long! I haven't played Colosseum yet, but it's gotten such positive reviews, then I definitely buy it once I get a Game Cube. Happy 10th anniversary though.

This is literally my favorite Pokemon game I've ever played. I'd played it when I was younger, but never beat it until last month. What stands out to me in Colo/XD is how the characters actually have personalities. You've got characters like Miror B. that are just hilarious, and the Phenac City mayor who is secretly the head of Cipher. And the stuff like when Dakim punches and knocks out Vander for not giving him the time flute, and when Gonzap has his Gloom use sleep powder on the Cipher guards to sneak through. It adds another dimension to the game. You don't see that kind of stuff in the portable games. And who can forget the kickass battle music! It was also cool to battle with my friends using Colosseum and getting an awesome battle experience instead of just linking the GBAs together.

Anyway, why is Colosseum considered a spinoff? I agree with Chuggaaconroy in that it has every right to be part of the main series. Although there are some different mechanics like shadow Pokemon and it doesn't involve a 10-year old boy leaving his mommy, it's the same basic Pokemon RPG. I'm really waiting for another console RPG like Colosseum. Come on, GameFreak, make it happen!

10 years? Time flies by so fast.

Anyways, I fondly remember Colosseum as being a pretty awesome game. I did like the fact that double battles was the main focus as by doing so, it managed to set itself apart from the main games. I actually liked snagging as it was cool way to capture Pokemon. But, there are still some glaring flaws with the game however. The amount of Pokemon available to you was rather disheartening, and the purifying method took way too long just for one Pokemon, let alone forty.

Regardless, the game has a great soundtrack (semi-final battle theme is sooo good) and Espeon and Umbreon as the starters was awesome.

XD was the superior game to me though.

I think I liked XD more, but I loved them both so much. Espeon was always such a hard-hitter and Umbreon ran support. I remember that I used to play and then when I stopped, I'd pretend like I was in real life. I loved Mirror B and his dancing life! As well as really just everything about it. The freakin' Battle Tower thing was hard, though. Those Legendary Dogs were a real challenge.

My favorite part was probably the Celebi cut scenes. I loved Celebi.

I loved the whole concept of Shadow Pokemon. My only wish in the entirety of Pokemon is to continue with it somehow. And while XD improved on graphics and other things, Colosseum definitely had its advantages over it's successor, mainly talking about the music. Colosseum's OST is pretty much the greatest sound track to grace the Pokemon world.

And I feel like RBY was ten years ago, how could this possibly be?

The reason I love the Spin-Offs forum, is you guys. I love your opinions and that you share the same love for Colosseum that I do. It actually really sucks that I missed it by one day. I didn't even know that.

    It's been a ride.

That warms my heart. I wanna post in here more now because of this post, haha. <3 I agree though, it is great to hear other peoples stories and experiences with games we love. It's great to share that with others and builds connections between us and that makes the game even greater as well!

Lol, I've still got a game cube to play it on, but it uses up a ridiculous amount of memory. Anyway, happy 10th anniversary Colosseum.
