Pokemon Laws

What kind of laws do you think a world with Pokemon would have? Created laws around pets in the real world. Presented a clear danger in Sword/Shield when Dynamaxed. Makes sense to regulate that, right?

Definitely envisions a law outlawing certain Pokemon in towns and cities.
  • Thinks of Primeape and many Fire-types immediately. Seems very unsafe to have the Charmander line's open flame. Risks far worse in the event of one going on a rampage.
  • Blocks a few Pokemon due to perceived fears, like Drifloon and Gourgeist.
  • Imagines size/weight to be a concern. What happens if a Steelix breaks out of its Pokeball inside of a building?

Restricts some with better uses, such as Conkeldurr with construction. Probably treats it like heavy machinery. Requires its owner to procure a license.

Bets on some local laws around spaying and neutering some common Pokemon. Could base it off egg groups. Presents a major problem, actually. Imagine your Torracat getting pregnant from a wild Skwovet.

Pays extra for some Pokemon, based on type. Probably demands a bit extra for Dedennes. (Steals electricity from outlets. Runs up the electric bill.) May require a water damage deposit for Water-types.

Bans smoking in some public areas. Likely prevents taking Koffing and Weezing to some locations.

Now this is a pretty interesting topic!

My favourite legal area to think about is that of ages at which Trainers can, well, be Trainers, and what ages they are considered legal adults as well. My current headcanons are:

Age 11, right after graduating elementary school: Kanto, Johto, Hoenn, Sinnoh and Alola. In all of these regions, legal adulthood is set at 18.
Age 13-14, right after graduating middle school: Unova and Galar. Legal adulthood in these regions is usually set at 16.
Age 17: Kalos. It's considered an oddity in the Pokémon world, though, and after X/Y, attempts have been made to lower the license age to widen the gap between that and legal adulthood - to give kids a better chance to prepare themselves if they want to be professional Trainers or take on other jobs related to Pokémon.

In all regions, children can also use Pokémon for practice battles or other pedagogical purposes with adult supervision, but only from age 5 on. Anyone under that age, and the parents, tutors or teachers are charged with negligence.

Also, I'd like to believe there's an organization that deals with extradimensional "immigration" (by which I mean Fallers) and other humanoid non-human entities that come to live in the Pokémon world. I mean, the UB Task Force deals with immediate threats to security, but there has to be another agency/branch that helps Fallers and other entities settle into their new circumstances.

No using your bicycle indoors or using the fishing rod away from a surface of water or you'll magically hear a voice in your mind about how you're not allowed to do that.

Speaking of.... there's quite a few mons that can read minds and project stuff into one or just affect your mind one way or another. Should definitely be a law to regulate that, maybe something like... 'Pokemon who can read/influence someone's mind need to be kept inside their balls at all times when not at home' ?

If you ask me there should be a law restricting how much you need to pay up if you lose a Pokemon battle. With stuff like Pay Day and the Amulet Coin you could drive someone into bankruptcy if you battle them often 😂
Just setting a fixed amount you need to pay for losing a battle would be easiest I guess. Could make some tiers within that depending on if you lose to a normal trainer or a gym leader or an E4 etc.

Great topic!

• Assuming the PokéDex entries are true, (which they're probably not), it should definitely be illegal to own a Magcargo because it is hotter than the surface of the sun
• Do not purposeful anger Pokémon in their natural habitat that have the potential to cause major destruction such as Gyarados or Tyranitar
• Keep Pokémon such as Voltorb and Electrode far away from urban areas, as they could be dangerous to urban civilization with their hair-trigger explosions
• No committing acts of abuse towards your Pokémon, such as physical abuse, neglect, and so on
• No disrupting the challenges of Pokémon trainers, be it the gym challenge or island challenge
• No Dynamaxing Pokémon in buildings and/or urban areas where buildings can be destroyed; instead save it only for arenas made for it
• No going out into any type of wild areas without your own Pokémon present
• No hunting Pokémon that are endangered species such as Lapras
• No reckless gene splicing of Pokémon in laboratories
• No releasing large and/or heavy Pokémon from their PokéBalls like Steelix, Wailord, Eternaus, Celesteela, and so on in certain buildings as you said, especially apartment buildings
• No restoring Pokémon fossils in ways that they were not meant to be restored (yes, you should be in prison for over 25 years Cara Liss)
• No stealing Pokémon from other Pokémon trainers, which is a law (somewhat) enforced based on the actions of evil teams
• No using your Pokémon to attack other trainers (except for self-defense) or property
• People should have a Pokémon trainer card or license to be able to capture and train Pokémon, otherwise you're a poacher and/or committing possible cruelty to Pokémon
• Should definitely be illegal simply to own Eternaus based on his lore alone and the powers that he has
• Should definitely be illegal to own a Pokémon like Guzzlord because of the wanton destruction it could cause with its appetite
• Should definitely be illegal to own a Primal Groudon and/or Kyorge because of the destruction they could cause with the weather
• Should definitely be illegal to own a Yvetal because of its ability to end all existence
