Obviously different games in a series tend to fare differently with their respective fanbases, Pokemon is no exception to this rule.

Which games do you perceive as popular, why do you think that's so?

What about the less popular ones, any reason why not many like them?

Personally, I find GSC and RSE to be the most popular of the games, GSC because the region of Johto was generally "fun" to traverse and a lot of the Pokemon in Johto were cute/had great designs, the starters included. RSE is probably liked because Magma and Aqua were fun to fight and the environments introduced were a pretty cool experience, or at least they were for me, and the soundtrack was amazing. Additionally, the transition from GSC in terms of graphics was refreshing.

Diamond and Pearl [not necessarily Platinum] are probably one of, if not the least popular games overall. While I myself liked them, I've heard that the region is pretty boring to trek through and everything about the game is "slow".'

GSC is definitely the most popular. I'm not entirely sure why. Perhaps because Kanto was a rather boring region to explore, and the only thing RBY had going for it was the sheer fact that it was first and was the game that hooked us all. Then GSC rolled around and improved upon the game making it endlessly more fun.

I'm going to have to say RSE is quite up there on the less popular titles. I know a lot of people aren't fans of this generation, and whenever the topic of a remake arises, over half the posts I see are "Ew, no, RSE was so bad I'd die a little inside if they remade it." And then there are the RSE fans like myself who would die FOR a remake. Considering I max'd nearly 3 cartridges, I think that speaks for itself on how much I love RSE.

DPPt is hated in the competitive community I know, mostly Platinum though because it trashed the metagame with Scizor / Mence spam. I don't think many people who aren't competitive players hate it as much though.

    I also think its GSC.
Most of the popular Pokémon still seem to be gen 1-2 and both Johto and Kanto were available giving it a longer story mode. There were also many things at the start where you had to come back for later on to "re-explore".

Even though I loved RSE, I think it's the least popular ones x.x
Perhaps I like them so much because they were my first games but I liked the story and Hoenn was just fun to explore. There were many different areas (BW diving disapointed me.....).
I'd also love a RSE remake <3 And I'm actually quite positiv there will be.. there are a few "hints" in BW that refer to RSE u.u Anyways I'd love if they bring back the "pokemon follow" from SS/HG D: hated how they removed it from B/W.

My personal least lined ones were D/P and B/W. D/P was kind of annoying to explore. I liked the story but... the game play was kind of dragging D:
And B/W had a good story but maaaan the skript was screwed up ~_~ rarely seen characters talk so... plainly... why the hell does a grunt tell me where he is gonna hide? Why the hell does N tell me that he will only battle me so the others can escape? Over all I just found the skirpt pretty screwed up and weird. ._."

GSC is probably the most popular series. Probably because it was a long game, challenging and had a decent storyline. Although RBY were the first installments they're no means the most popular. With only Kanto explore and nothing else to do after defeated the E4 made it a boring game after you completed it. I also think RSE are very popular. Because of the actual game it's self not the Pokemon. The plot was decent enough and the characters were enjoyable. It's still a bit early to predict if Black and White are as popular as the earlier games. They are doing pretty well now so I'd say it's all good.

The least popular games are the only ones I left out; DPPT. Well DP really, Diamond and Pearl probably would of gotten a lot more sales if the game was quicker, the gameplay was just too slow to enjoy it well like Black and White or RSE. It also brought many changes to the competitive world which some fans don't care about. Platinum has slightly faster gameplay but not much, it was a fun game though because it had a lot of different sidequests such as the battle frontier and the extra places to visit.

tl;dr - RSE/GSC good. DPP bad. RBY meh. BW undetermined, but probably good.

It fared decently sales-wise, seeing as to how it outsold G/S, RS, FRLG and HGSS.

GSC, they were always the most popular Pokemon games and always seemed to be the personal favourite. Maybe it's because it just had lots of great features such as 16 badges and was the best game back then in that timeframe, It wasn't my favourite though.

RSE unfortunately, people don't see Hoenn as what it should be seen as, the scenery, Towns & Cities are brilliant and it is by far the best region and set of games IMO. It's only because it was AFTER GSC, which is peoples eyes was amazing that it didn't live up to the standard. If it was followed after DPPT I think more people would enjoy it, heres hoping for a RS remake then maybe more people will like Hoenn.

I think any new Pokemon main game that comes out is the popular thing because everytime a main game Pokemon game comes out, it is popular and the one before hand gets tossed to the side like it was nothing (in my opinion)

I know a lot of people that do not like the Pokemon Ranger games for some odd reason. I believe that Pokemon Dash can be one of those games because not that many people talk about that game.

I think the most popular games were GSC, RSE, and Colosseum and XD. Pokemon Stadium 1 and 2 were also pretty good.

Ones that I think aren't so popular were DPPt, Pokemon Battle Revolution, Pokemon Channel, and I remember most of my classmates didn't like Puzzle League when it came out. I liked it though, but I liked puzzles.

Personally, I didn't like RSE because I kept getting lost. My boyfriend and I agreed that it was the hardest gen to navigate. Then again, we both have poor direction skills in real life, so I think we carried that with us to the games, lol. Diamond and Pearl were too slow, but I liked Platinum and wish I had it back... Lost it two years ago. It had a shiny Shaymin and a Mew! >.<

Pokemon Battle Revolution sucks, I only use it for online battles on my big tv. It also has my old Platinum file on it, so I keep it in memory of my old team. I was disappointed by the game aspect. Especially because the rentals aren't like the Stadium games.

I recently got done playing the PokePark game. Way too overpriced, thankfully I only borrowed it and didn't waste my money. It took me about 16 hours to mull through the game, and I was taking my time. All you really do is play tag with the Pokemon and do some mini games. The battle system was interesting, but not challenging. I don't think this was a very popular game either.

GSE is popular because many people think that nostalgia automatically makes a game better. RBY is also popular, and even I, who has no nostalgia of RBY, think that those are some of the more fun Pokemon games, although that might just be all of the fun glitches. People often hate on RSE for no good reason, just because they're not nostalgic over them. DPPt isn't very popular, and I can easily understand why. The region is bland and boring, the Pokemon are mostly forgettable, and I don't like any of the starters. BW is quite popular, and it is very overrated, as people say "OMG THE STRORY IS SOOOO AMAZING!!!!!11111". No, the story isn't amazing. It's just that it's more ambitious than previous Pokemon titles. And for some reason, girls really like N. The most popular are GSC and BW. The least popular is DPPt.

I've noticed Black and White are very popular, and kind of created a small Pokemon Renaissance if you will. Their popularity is what made me want to start playing Pokemon games again.

From what I've seen in many different polls, Ruby and Sapphire are pretty unpopular. I really love Ruby and Sapphire, so I don't understand that. I think Hoenn is a great region.

Which games do you perceive as popular, why do you think that's so?: Pokemon Black/White because of the new storyline, Pokemon and mechanics.

What about the less popular ones, any reason why not many like them?: Pokemon Red/Blue/Yellow, possibly because of their graphics

Which games do you perceive as popular, why do you think that's so?: BW and HGSS. I think they're up there in one of the most popular Pokemon games. I think it's showing that popularity of Pokemon franchise is still going up.

What about the less popular ones, any reason why not many like them?
: DPPt was slow, and had serious lack of fire-types, which was remedied in Platinum.

Which games do you perceive as popular, why do you think that's so?: HG/SS because many people liked the originals and those games expanded on them.

What about the less popular ones, any reason why not many like them? D/P/Pt have their flaws and suffer from being less popular, though persoanlly I like them better than the more popular HG/SS.

R/S/E are unpopular, and fairly so, as the region itself is overdone and the characters aren't very memorable.

GSC is the most popular. No one ever shuts up about how great the music, Pokemon, region(s), etc are. Everyone was ecstatic for the remakes. And rightfully so. I mean, GSC are great games. As for the least popular, RSE and DP get a lot of flack. People hated the water and all the HMs in RSE and most people didn't like the "clone" Pokemon, like Wurmple's line(s), Pluses, Minun, etc. Then DP was just slow as hell and most people don't like going through the region. And lol Defog and Rock Climb HMs. I love RSE myself, but I agree with DP. I don't have a lot of fun going through the Sinnoh region, but that's just me. I can Spheal with the slowness though, if I'm just in a DP mood and wanna play those games.

Which games do you perceive as popular, why do you think that's so?
It seems that Platinum, and to a lesser extent, SoulSilver, are the most popular of the recent games. As far as older games go, I mainly heard the gushing praise for the original Red and Blue (not Yellow) until recently, now it seems to be all about G/S/C.

What about the less popular ones, any reason why not many like them?
With R/S/E, it seems that everyone either loves it or hates it. With Sinnoh, it's just the opposite; everyone seems to think it's "just okay." The Pokemon games I've seen with the worst criticism are Dash, all the Ranger games, and Channel.
