Serious Prejudice

Have you ever experienced denigrating treatment or witnessed someone else suffer it because of religion, sex, race, nationality, gender identity, sexual orientation, class, disability, medical condition etc?

How did it make you feel?

What would you say today to that person with prejuduce in their heart if you could?

What would your advice be to someone who is currently suffering or witnessing similar treatment to what you experienced?

If you are really brave, here's one more question.

Have you ever recognized prejudice in yourself?

Yup. I remember in elementary school the kids couldn't be bothered to properly pronounce my last name and instead called me "Moose." I didn't realized how badly I was treated until years later. There's also one instance where my mom and I got off from Red Lobster and one guy asked for money. My mom said she doesn't have any money, and then the guy angrily asked, "You guys don't speak English?" Yeah, not happy about that either.

If I could go back and be meaner, I would be like, "Oh, then how about I say your last name is McNuggets", but that's not really me.

For those having similar experiences as me, don't let them get to you. If there are folks unwilling to correctly pronounce your name because it's non-white/European, don't be afraid to call them out on that. Also, your name is beautiful no matter what. <3

As for last question, I had some gender identity prejudice long ago. I didn't know anything about transgender or non-binary people until I went to college. At first the concept was alien to me, but then I grew quickly in support of that.

I'm autistic and suffer from mental illnesses. So naturally I've gone through life having plenty of people treat me like an idiot - despite the people who do so never being even close to being smarter than me, that was the most annoying part honestly - or otherwise lesser of a person. When I was younger, I would occasionally react to that sort of shit by beating heads in but as I've gotten older I've gotten better at controlling my anger, thankfully.

These days I'll typically ignore stuff as best I can but I'm not above giving the person a rather severe tongue lashing if that's an option. Unfortunately the people who are the worst offenders are typically people working in medicine or for the government who I need something form and rarely am I afforded the luxury to the degree I'd like.

I once had a doctor tell me I'm a horrible, lazy drain upon society that's also going to die young. I don't see that one anymore but I'm proud to say I refrained from murdering her.

It would not surprise me if that were the case. Given that my resume is holey and I'm the type of introverted recluse that likes standing in corners instead of jumping into groups of people, there may be enough of those people. Though, only directly in my face. Most people resort to talking behind my back, I assume.

Very much so. It's unlikely to decrease, as well. Though, I am pretty concious of myself and my behavior, I doubt that it will stop. Given that I have some knowledge in philosophy and psychology I'm not even sure if I really should stop it.

That is not to say that I walk out the street with a desire to be a dick to other people. Often times it even comes down to me being the hermit I am. Countless times I was just finding people apologizing for things they say, thing they acknowledge as being rude or racist. Things where my reaction is not of disgust, but a simple "wait, you're not allowed to say that/that's racist?". It's a little frustrating when you see yourself as some type of relic of the past, even though you technically belong to the "new" generation.

Suppose, it's one thing that makes me be like "I'm an asshole, you better avoid me at all costs". I think, there's this saying that goes somewhere around the line of "you are, what you believe you are". If you call yourself names, then you will become those names...
