Jack Swagger Talks About His Title Win, His Lisp & More (Interview)
By Michael Bluth

WWE World Heavyweight champion Jack Swagger recently spoke to Kevin Eck of the Baltimore Sun to promote Sunday's Extreme Rules Pay-per-view. You can read the full interview at BaltimoreSun.com. Here are some highlights of what Swagger said about:

How He Broke Into Wrestling: "I met Jim (Ross) halfway through my college career and he told me to get my degree, and then if I wanted the opportunity, to come talk to him. My whole last semester I was doing the graduation/job interview thing, which was very mentally draining. I had a job lined up with a finance firm in Dallas, and the day I was supposed to sign up and go to work for them fulltime was the same day I got the WWE contract in the mail. I had to call [the finance firm] and tell them that I was going to wear spandex and baby oil for a living."

His Lisp: "Oh sure, as a kid I was self conscious about it, but a lot of people tell me they don't even notice it. I'm sure it comes out here and there. First of all, it's a real disease. It's my cross to bear or what not. I'm joking around here, but at times I'm like, "Come on, this is a little childish." But at the same time, it's true so why not use it?"

His World Heavyweight Title Win: "It definitely was a whirlwind turn of events and I've been riding high ever since. In certain aspects it was surprising, but I felt like I had the tools and the skills to carry that championship and be a face for this company. To me personally, it wasn't that much of a surprise. It was just a matter of time, I felt. If you go back and look at WWE Magazine, they asked me when I was going to win my first world championship and I told them WrestleMania XXVI, so I was only a couple days off."

Breaking News: WWE Releases Mickie James; Five Other Superstars
By Patrick Boucher

WWE.com issued the following future endeavors statement:

WWE has come to terms on the release of WWE Divas Mickie James and Katie Lea Burchill as well as Superstars Shelton Benjamin, Kung Fu Naki, Slam Master J and Jimmy Wang Yang as of today, April 22, 2010. We wish them the best in all future endeavors.

Mickie James? Why, she was som muchj fun to watch. and Benjamin? At least he could preform in the tring. I don't mind the other three though since they're just there.

Shelton? SHELTON? SHELTON?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!!?!?!?!??!?!?!?!!??!!?!?!?!?? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!! First Mr. Kennedy and now SHELTON??? WHY??????
They could have released Hornswoggle or Kozlov or Santino, but they release Shelton?!?!? WHAT THE ****?

I'll miss Jimmy Wang Yang, but I could see this coming. There are more favorable markets for his skillset anyways imo, they just don't come with the WWE perks.

Yang kinda fell into the same pidgeonhole that the Ultimo Dragon did when WWE had him on contract a few years back. There just simply wasn't anyone who could put on a "pure cruiserweight style" match to completion with him (which is really what he's been trained for); unless they wanted to look inept, dumb down the show, or simply get hurt that is. Also, whether "smart wrestling" fans like it or not, WWE is built around the electricity of it's product. Pure ability doesn't pay the bills in this company, you need to offer a character. It was only a matter of time before WWE really had nothing for Wang.

Jimmy would have been a huge success back in early WCW when the cruiserweight division was strong. He is definetly cut from the "If I can knock your socks off with my in-ring stuff, who cares if I can't talk your head off or blow you away with my bod" stalk. In suitable markets like Japan that probably still works just fine, but the WWE doesn't have much use for that anymore.

I mean, in a HHH match, how many actual techniques does he display? I'm sure if I tried I could count them on one hand. I don't count his current lazy/safe version of the Pedigree as a technique anymore, btw.

Report: Batista Finishing Up In WWE Following Tonight's PPV (Possible Spoiler)
By Patrick W. Boucher

The following news may contain a spoiler in regards to tonight's WWE Extreme Rules PPV main event, read with caution!!!

The word within the WWE locker room in Baltimore, which plays host to tonight's WWE Extreme Rules PPV, is that Batista will be finishing up with the company this week. Batista is set to challenge John Cena tonight in a last man standing match for the Championship.

Batista made headlines dating back to this past January when he made it known he was ready to retire within the year, after being burnt out and his aspirations to become a movie star. A majority of the WWE crew arrived early this weekend in Baltimore for the PPV and those within the backstage area believe Batista's career in the WWE will come to an end shortly following the Extreme Rules PPV.

While this all remains speculation, there is great belief that Batista will indeed retire from the Pro Wrestling ring. Stay tuned as we continue to gather information.

Maryse Attacked by a Stalker, Jeff Hardy Disses Last Week's WWE RAW
By Marc Middleton

- Jeff Hardy wrote the following on Twitter yesterday about last week's RAW: "Raw last week wasRotten...damn I wasAmazed...because I'm usuallyImpressed? Did I mention Raw was thaShits lastWeek!"

- WWE Diva Maryse wrote the following on Twitter last night: "Had security escort me back to my place, got attack by a stalker in middle of street in middle of day in WeHo, what the heck, CRAZY! I'm still out of breath, I got sooooo scare! I couldn't talk! I'm alright!"

Feel happy for Batista, he's been in the business for a while now.

I just laughed at what Hardy said and what happened to Maryse

Sweet, is anyone seeing Extreme Rules? Here's what's happened so far:

HHH attacked as show started
Apparently Shemus is afraid of Hunter, and attacked him badly. No word on if he'll be able to compete

Gauntlet Tag Team Match: Winners get title opportunity at Raw
ShowMiz demaded action, and they got it. First tag team was Morrisson and Truth, who lost, then MVP and Mark Henry, who also lost. Battle weary, ShowMiz lost to the third and final tag team, Hart Dynasty. Tune in to Raw to see what happens

JTG wins Strap Match against Shad
As Shad was breaking JTG up, JTG slyly managed to touch all four turnbuckles.

Punk keeps his hair with the aid of a 'hooded stranger'
After Gallows and Serena were kicked out by the ref, a hooded stranger attacked 619 behind the refs back, allowing Punk to hit GTS. My bet is the guy is Mercury

Swagger retains title against Orton\
Ended with a Gut Wrench Power Bomb, though Orton managed an RKO after the match

Shemus beats HHH
Not sure what happened....

Phoenix emerges Champ
She beat McCool... =(

Cena 'ties' split ends with The Animal for good
Using duct tape, how cheap. Oh well, Batista had a good career

I didn't know that Batista wanted to retire. It's too bad since I really like him as a heel though I know some other people who don't.

I liked him as a heel... you think it's possible he might turn face right before he leaves? Like on Raw tonight? xD

I kind of want him to go by a JBL-ish type route for some reason. Get beat by some random guy and forced to retire because of that loss. Just to keep him as a heel.

xD... like a filler wrestler? Eh, I can't see him going that way. He wants to be a movie star, I hardly suspect he wants to leave WWE with an image of him getting beat by a stranger. xD

It doesn't need to be a stranger. Maybe it could be some new draftee from SmackDown! who could be McMahon's new dog for a while. Y'know?

Don't think that would work since Batista was McMahon's dude for a while. Remember the Hart incident? Maybe by someone like Evan Bourne, or someone who can use the momentum boost. xD

By the way, Verni, what's your opinion of how Cena won yesterday? xD

The Montreal Screwjob? Let's not compare Batista's relationship with the WWE business to the one Hart had, the circumstances were truly unusual. Hart wasn't leaving for a movie career, he was leaving for the #1 competitor company, he also had the strap on him at the time and wouldn't compromise.

This idea has been done before. You need a really arrogant and antagonistic guy that everyone hates to pull it off effectively. Edge might be more of the type suited to give some relative nobody a push in the described manner.

For the record, I'm not a Batista fan. Maybe once I thought he was decent enough, but someone with the balls to say on the record that A.J. Styles doesn't know how to wrestle, doesn't know what he's talking about and should be treated as such.

Good luck with your movie career, I really hope your supposed "story-telling" capabilites don't land you in the Wal-Mart dime bin. =PP

Don't mess with the Phenomenal One, ever. XD

I think Batista could pull it of still.

Woah, woah, woah. Am I the only one that buys those?

I didn't watch that thing. I'm not going to waste my cash on that.

Well, I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree.

I think the sentiment speaks for itself.

Btw, I just found out that Batista is over 40. XD

It's always nice to see a wrestler get out of the business before his pecs start to resemble two big buttery flapjacks. *coughcoughHogancough*

Hornswoggle to SD, maybe Ziggler will choke him again. :P

Very nice, Chris Masters needs a change of scenery, he's very underutilized. The Masterlock is a great old-fashioned WWE finisher. I've always liked the guy, reminded me of a young Luger when he debuted. He's got the looks, the body; but he never really expanded his move repetoire, nor has he made much attempt to re-package himself, quite a shame.

Totally!

I feel like they totally killed Smackdown.... don't you?

EDIT: Smackdown is moving to SyFy in October, apparently.
