Have you properly published a piece of written work?

    Do you ever want to?

I'm working on scientific papers, which I hope to publish eventually. I already have a few in my name, but not as the first author. They're a very particular kind of writing, and I'm really not used to it yet.

Could you define "properly" here? Do you mean as in, in book format? Or published under an "established" publication house regardless of the format, including epubs? Published completely as in a finished work instead of an in-progress work?

I mean, last I checked, I've so far properly published at least nine pieces of written work - some of them available on AO3, itself a reputable publication site. What I'm lacking, if anything, is IP lawyer backing. Oh and cool artistic covers. Something that screams ACTION!!!! and ROMANCE!!! despite my stories not having much of that lol

This is a VERY valid path of publication. We need more science!!! I hope that your papers cover a good ground and you can get them out in the open. Also, please think of those scientists and researchers who can't afford exclusivity deals with publication powerhouses, and if your paper's subject is of high societal value make a version freely available on registrars such as ArXiv. We need more cool science!!! with actiony, romancey covers

With properly, I don't mean on online fanfiction sites. I suppose the area is a bit muddy - would you consider Worm published, for example? I don't think I would.

My uni supports Open Access so I think they'll fund me to make all my articles such. I don't agree with the Open Access movement though, as I think it dilutes the quality of scientific papers.

I hope I can at least publish my work on Tapas or a similar site for webcomics. I wondered for a bit whether I should consider publishing my stuff as regular, physical comics, but those don't seem like a lucrative market.
