Quick Question and Answer Thread / Breeding Questions

But what are event pokemon and how do I get them (other than trading for them)?

I assume there are events that the makers of the game have and they give away free Pokemon but how do I know when these events are and how do they work?

Event pokemon are given away at certain places, Like Toys R Us for example. Nintendo usually sets a place and time at certain stores, locations etc. And there they give away certain type of pokemon. Like at TRU they gave away shaymin, regigigas etc. I've never been to one before but Pokemon.com usually tell when events are i believe. They work by going into mystery gift and recieving them well your at the location they are giving the pokemon at. I personally don't know much about event pokemon as ive never been to one but that is what i've been told.

yes my best virtual buddie. when I started playing ruby at age 8 i got my torchic up to lvl 56, then came along emerald so I traded my blazierkin to emrald and contineued on. then came diamond I migrated my now lvl 75 blazerkin to my diamond then as platinum came along I traded him and got him to lvl 100 I think I will keep trading him over because he is my first pokemon.

I think there was this one time when I trained my Torchic in Pokemon Pearl. It beat the Elite Four, but of course it had help from my other team members.

i have my piplup that i don't use. its too cute to evolve since empoleon and prinplup are failguins. piplup is cute. even that i don't find him much useful. (oh yeah, i was supposed to trade it for a totodile. but i got the totodile free so i kept piplup. i probably wont evolve him or level him more)

I suggest that you trash that team and start from scratch. There's a lot of things wrong with your team and your view on EV training. I'll point out a few here:
1. EVs are gained every time experience is gained during battle and any given Pokemon can have only 510 EVs total. Considering that your Weavile is lv. 70, it would've reached that cap long ago and isn't gaining any more EVs (unless you used the EV reducing berries; Pomeg through Tamato).
2. Levels are pointless... for team rating anyway. With Gen IV's wi-fi having a feature that lets your Pokemon be lv. 100 for a wi-fi battle and battle simulation programs like shoddybattle, listing levels are completely trivial.
3. Stats don't need to be listed. Team raters can get a pretty good idea of your stats from the Pokemon itself and the EV spread it uses.
4. Learn about the positive (and negative) effects of the different natures.
5. Move redundancy is redundant. There's very, very little reason a Pokemon should have two attacking moves of the same type. Having two moves of the same type restricts your type coverage. One will do a more efficient job than the other and that move should be used over the other one. That way, you're not wasting a move. For example: Choosing between Thunderbolt and Discharge. Obviously, Thunderbolt is more powerful than Discharge and all Discharge has is the slightly better possibility to give the opponent a status condition. Thunderbolt is the obvious better choice.
6. HM Moves Suck. Only exceptions are Surf and Waterfall. Need to get around? Just stick them on Pokemon you don't use. See 5.
7. Make your moves compliment your Pokemon. You have a high attack Pokemon like Weavile and you're making it use Special moves with its abysmally low Sp. Atk. It's not going to hurt anything. Learn what the strengths and weaknesses of your Pokemon's base stats and learnsets are and build movesets and EV spreads to compliment them.
8. Tackle and Growl; WTF? Like I said in 5, there are moves that are obviously stronger than the ones you're using right now with just as much accuracy. Use those.

Any questions?

QUESTION: Which is the best place to level up your Pokémon -or- trainer to battle to level up?

In DP i used Ace Trainer Ariana on Route 228, but her Pokémon changed (no more Chansey!) Does anybody have any suggestions?

I need help with some places and items dIMOND

Ok Im Xalynn i wanna know for pokemon diamond ok there is a city where a boat takes u to the moon islands ok in ther northeastern part the highest house it is locked and says i need a key also there is this cave that is small i cant remember what route sorry but a chubby person in it and says to u about a race to like unknown and i dont know what to do

CAN YOU PLEASE HELP?!?!?!

Discharge actually has 3x more chance to Paralyze than Thunderbolt and hits every target in 2v2 battles.
It is about 16% weaker than Discharge. Some Pokemon which are so pumped in S.Atk anyway can afford to use Discharge over Thunderbolt under certain circumstances, so it's not to say that Thunderbolt is always the better choice...

Though for Electivire, he needs the extra power if he's using his S.Atk, so that's not the case anywho.

QUESTION: Which is the best place to level up your Pokémon -or- trainer to battle to level up?

Carry around 5 very high level Pokemon with Pick-Up and fight the trainer with the Blissey outside the mansion (I think?) with a Lucky Egg attached.
You'll get Rare Candies.

True, but then you've got to consider the 75% power drop in 2 vs. 2. Not to mention the fact that unless your partner's a ground type, it's going to get hit too. Also, a 30% chance to paralyze is the same chance of landing a OHKO move.

@ funkeboodha: If you're playing Platinum, in Backlot's Mansion, there should be a Rich Boy and a Lady both with Blissey. That seems like an easy way to gain exp. Plus what Gymnotide said.

@ fer2911: From what I've recently learned about static and dynamic PIDs, it looks like 10ANNIV Pokemon can be shiny, though I'm not absolutely 100% certain (99% is nice though).

Weavile > Should never be used to S.Atk / too weak in S.Atk and no time to set up Nasty Plot (with your Pokemon; with some Sleep status, you may or may not be able to get 1 Nasty Plot in, but Weavile would do more damage using unboosted Physical attacks or Swords Dance)

Togekiss > Moveset is bad. Needs some Roost or Nasty Plot and a paralyzing move like Thunder Wave or Body Slam. Ability should be Serene Grace.

Infernape > Your stats are a mess. Its Atk and S.Atk should always have one distinctly higher than the other. Use only Physical attacks or only Special attacks. Another option is Mixape with Grass Knot / Flamethrower / Nasty Plot / Close Combat.

Espeon > This Espeon is pretty bad.

Electivire > Needs more Earthquake, Ice Punch, and Cross Chop.

Froslass > She's pretty bad without Hail. Too many Physical moves; it prefers Shadow Ball / Thunderbolt / Blizzard / etc. She does a good job setting up Spikes too and is fast enough to Taunt or Destiny Bond.

Mamoswine > Needs more Ice Shards / Ice Fangs, Stone Edge and Superpower.

Vespiquen > This one sucks. She can tank well with Defend Order and Roost (Roost over Heal Order). Other than that, she is pretty bad. Also, it has too many weaknesses.

Tangrowth > Fairly bulky, but the set sucks. Cbf for this one.

There is a potential danger in using any combination of these Pokemon. For one thing, many of them share the same weaknesses.

FIRE - Weavile / Proslass / Mamoswine / Vespiquen / Tangrowth
ROCK - Weavile / Togekiss / Froslass / Mamoswine / Vespiquen
GROUND - Weavile / Infernape / Electivire / Mamoswine
FLYING - Infernape / Vespiquen / Tangrowth

Almost any combination of your team will be OHKO'd by a Pokemon with Stone Edge / Earthquake. The high possibility of Crunch makes this combination even more fatal.

1. That's the house where you can start the Darkrai event. To unlock the house, you'll need the Member's Pass, which should come to America in a couple months.

2. Yeah, the Ruin Maniac. He is planning to dig a tunnel to the Solaceon Ruins, but he wants to race you. All you need to do to make him dig the tunnel is catch all 26 varieties of Unown.

I had a feraligatr on my gold that I got up to level 97. It owned everything- venusaurs, dragonites, just about anything anyone could throw against it, it owned. I ended up trading it to my Crystal for it's last three levels before my gold died. I still have it.

I also had a level 100 Dodrio that owned all, but I traded that to my friend for a breeding set of Tyranitar and Dragonites.

I had a Koffing transferred from my friends DS as soon as I was able to trade, from that point I used it the most and it evolved into Weezing. It was always my main pokemon for all my battling and everything else so consider Weezing my main pokemon.

Can someone check on my Feraligatrs IVs?? I checked on Serebii and Veekun and they both said Perfect IVs for Attack (31) which I am trying to get but I want to make sure I am not doing the calculators incorrectly. Here is the info: Adamant natured. Feraligatr. lvl.100. "Likes to Thrash About" HP: 298 Attack: 270 Defence: 215 Special Attack: 162 Special Defence: 180 Speed: 171. Male. He has 0 EVs because I wanted to do IV check. Also on Serebii it says my hidden power is electric. What does this mean? Does this mean the move hidden power will do electric damage?

Cloning....so...hard

Ya, I am stuck on trying to clone pokemon, have any tips (besides 8 spin technique).

That Feraligatr does indeed have a 31 IV in attack. In addition, characteristics like "Likes to Thrash About" may indicate certain IVs. If you put in your stats and EVs correctly, then yes, that does mean that Hidden Power will have the electric type.

Also, please tell me you didn't save or that you did an IV battle with a not lv. 100 Feraligatr. Pokemon lv. 100 can't gain EVs. T_T

Uhm No I'm not dumb. I actually saved before I checked its IVs AKA lvl it up to 100. I'm not going to mess up with this It took 5 days of 5 hours of gameplay each day of breeding just to get this perfect one.
