Hmm this is hard I love both but I'm going to have to go with rock since I listen to it a little bit more then rap.

neither "are" the best. there is no "#1" kind of music. for the most part, i prefer rock to rap, but recently rock is very sold out. i'd go so far as to say rock is dead. rap hasn't sold out yet. there are good songs in both genres. and, if you ask me what type of music i think is #1, i'd have to go with ska. which is closer to rock. (but i voted for neither)

I prefer rock much better. To me, rap was better back in the day. Now all it is is someone yelling about drugs and sex with the same song. They speak so fast you cant understand what they say and all you can enjoy is the song, which keeps repeating itself. It's the most boring music ever. Classical on the other hand can surprise and startle you with huge outbursts.

Music is what you make of it.

I tend to lean more towards rock.I was brought up on rock .Though there are some rap songs that I like.Older people usually don't like either one.To them these types of music is just noise. It varies from person to person obviously. But I wouldn't call either kind of music "evil" or "the devil's music".Music is what you make of it.

    Music Power.

Plenty of people think these two types of music is noise. Some hate rap becuase of what the majority of it tries to message out. Some hete rock because it's to loud and gives them headaches. What kind of music you like tells a little bit about you.

aye , rock woot! (mostly punk rock thou XD) so u should know were i voted!

Rap is not music. It's just talking with an annoying beat in the background.

Music is supposed to be an art form. Standing outside in your pyjamas wearing a necklace that could take your head off while reciting Dr. Seuss to a lifeless beat is not art, I'm sorry.

I was raised into funk or "music that you could dance to" according to the parents. So, if that's ever playing I'm not going to complain. I like it because I was raised on it. I like rock. I'm new at "real music" (meaning not game or movie scores), and all I've been exposed to is a limited amount of Alternative Rock. But I like it.

Rap! Rap requires a lyrical talent as well as a musical talent, a lot of rock just requires you to be able to play instruments and scream down the mic. And most rock sounds the same to me. Of course there are exceptions like Linkin Park who mix rap with rock which I can respect.

Erm very inaccurate description. Anyone can make a rap group, with virtually no musical instrument talent. All you have to do to rap is hold a beat and say the bitc* word alot. (lol). There are exceptions to this, but to the common musical fan there aren't.

In order to play rock, or virtually any "band" music you need to be able to play an instrument WHILE remembering all your chords, lines etc and looking entertaining. It is very hard, trust me I would know.

And saying all Rock sounds the same, listen to any two rap artists, and they'll have more in common than any two rock bands.

You slaughtered rock when you compared it with rap, and vice versa.

Well, that is also a very inaccurate description of rap, or at least good rap. Individual rap songs are usually focused on one topic throughout and keeping a track flowing takes a huge amount of lyrical talent. And saying that all rap songs are full of curses is a very uneducated comment. Listen to Eminem's new album and then count the number of curses. Saying that any two rappers are the same, listen to Tupac, Eminem, Twista and Cypress Hill. There's four rappers straight away that have completely different styles.

I didn't say all rock sounded the same. I said most rock sounds the same to me. I didn't make any generalizations, I just stated my opinion based on my experiences with rock. And the rock "music" I've had to listen to has always been some extremely loud instruments screeching full blast and some dude screaming the same line about 12 times down the mic. And I did say that there was some rock music that I liked.

I disagree about rock being more difficult than rap though. It may be more difficult to play live rock than to rap, but not to record original music. Anybody can learn how to play instruments and you can memorize chords etc with alot of effort and patience. However being able to rhyme complex verses easily to, or even without, a beat is a gift, and have the voice to go with it. Why do you think there are so few successful rap artists compared to rockstars.

That is completely wrong. Rap is an amazing form of music. Even though now there is some crappy rap songs, you gotta listen to the good ones, to see how great it is. Rap is a musical form a poetry. It takes great effort to have good lyrics for a rap. People can relate to the really great and deep rap songs. Also, what makes it great, is that rappers come up with amazing stuff from the top of their head like it's nothing. Now that is talent.

Rock is also great. Groups like Foo Fighters, My Chemical Romance, and Guns N' Roses are great examples of groups that make great rock. They are legends. I dont even know how to explain how good rock is XD

Well the point is...It's way too hard to decide which one is better. I love them both, equally

Meh...Both are good, and can't be compared to one another really because they both usually deal with vastly different subjects. Rock can be called just people screaming, rap can be called people singing about money, sex, and cars.

Those are usually the two areguments I hear for either side, and it's just not true. Nowadays though, there really isn't any good music left. Just a bunch of Emo poppunck wannabess and a bunch of rapperswho probably forgot where they came from.

People see the stuff as being bad because most of what they're fed on the radio is bad, it's just all mainstream generic music. Took me a while but I got into rap/hiphop and music of the sort, just as much as I like rock. Albeit I really don't like what either has become, there are bands like the Roots and MCR that are still good.

And cuss again and you'll be banned Thomas.

rock's lyrics aren't always that simplistic. some of the lyrics in rock songs are incredibly complex and meaningful. and there are more successful rock stars (pardon me if this comes across as racist) because rock is generally performed by white guys, and rap is generally performed by white guys. people can relate better with people of their race (often) and whites are the majority. hence: rock is more popular than rap.

    Normal rap song these days:

Yo yo yo dawg, what you motha ***** doing her in this motha ***** place ******? Getting all these hos and bliong bling and drugs and sex dawg, with our pants down to our kraks *****! ***** ***** ******* ****** cuz you ***** ***** *****!!!!!!!!!!!!!.........****
