1st Gen Red/Blue Monotype Challenge!

Hm, well, I guess I'll try this Monotype Challenge. Aaaaaaand... I guess I'll go with flying, on Red Version.
Just a question, do we have to use our type choice as soon as we get it, and are we allowed to use other types for training until they evolve?

Okay, here we go... first update!

Update:
-Named my Trainer "Ben"
-Gave my rival the imaginative name... "Rival"
-Withdrew the potion (thought it might come in handy...)
-Tried to make my escape from Pallet Town, but was thwarted in my efforts by Prof. Oak :(
-Chose Bulbasaur (obviously)
-Struggled through against Rival (had to use my potion and everything...)
-Got Oaks Parcel, delivered it and received a pokédex.
-Caught a Level 3 Nidoran M.
-Made a quick visit to Viridian Forest to catch a Level 4 Weedle.
-Came back down to Viridian, and after some training beat Rival (with only Nidoran)
-Went through Viridian Forest, Weedle evolved to Kakuna.

Gym Battle: Vs Brock
In what may come as a surprise to you all I used Bulbasaur and its Vine Whip to beat both of Brocks pokémon in one hit... meaning I won a Boulderbadge.

you can train a pokemon that is not your type as long as it evolves into a pokemon of your type

Hey I have another update for you...

Update:
-Kakuna evolved to Beedrill and Bulbasaur evolved to Ivysaur en route to Mt Moon.
-Entered Mt Moon, caught a Level 8 Zubat
-Nidoran evolved into Nidorino
-Picked the Dome Fossil (not that it really matters)
-Left Mt Moon and caught a Level 6 Ekans on my way to Cerulean.
-Beat Rival again
-Went through Nugget Bridge and won a Nugget.
-Went to see Bill and got a ticket to some fancy do.

Gym Battle: Vs Misty
Ivysaur and its Vine Whip ripped through both of Mistys pokémon... meaning I won a Cascadebadge in similarly simple fashion as my first badge. It will get a bit more challenging from here though...

Yay! First update:

-Named my trainer Messiah.
-Named my rival Bubbles.
-Withdrew the potion.
-Got Charmander, named it Draconian.
-Defeated Bubbles.
-Got and delivered Oak's Parcel to get the Pokedex.
-Got the Town Map.
-Caught a Nidoran M, a Rattata, and a Pikachu. Sent them to the box.
-Caught a level 5 Spearow, named it Ziz; a level 3 Pidgey, named it Roc; a level 4 Weedle, named it Stab Happy; and a level 3 Caterpie, named it Squishy. These were added to my team.
-Trained my team and evolved both Squishy and Stab Happy twice.
-Fought Bubbles again; Ziz plowed through his team.
-Got through the Viridian Forest.

Squishy had a mind war with both Geodude and Onix. Unfortunately, their minds exploded due to Squishy having more luck with his roll.

Another update for you:
-Caught Level 13 Drowzee as a Flash slave. (also 10th pokémon on pokédex)
-Went to get flash, so that Drowzee could be Flash slave.
-Bombed it through the Rock Tunnel, in the process both Ekans and Zubat evolved.
-Met Rival in Pokemon Tower... what was he doing there? Oh well, beat him anyway. :)
-Went to Celadon and mercilessly threw Team Rocket out of their base and obtained the Silph Scope.
-Went back to Lavender to catch a Level 19 Gastly.
-Made my way back to Celadon to challenge Erika.
-Beat Erika easily... Golbat and Leech Life for the win! Won my fourth badge.

Update #2 (finally!):

-Bought a Magikarp for 500 monies. Woohoo. Named it FISHofDOOM.
-Positively enjoyed leveling said doom fish.
-Getting bored (especially now that my fish can attack) I went into Mt. Moon
-Caught a Geodude, a Paras and a Clefairy, sent them to the box.
-Caught a Zubat and implemented it into my Team.
-Got very annoyed by that Rocket with the Raticate, since I had neglected my team in favor of my fish.
-My fish FINALLY evolved.
-Trained some more, Draconian and Roc evolved.
-Got through Mt. Moon (took the Helix fossil).
-Caught an Ekans
-Ziz and Roc evolved!
-Fought Bubbles again; tore through his team with Roc.
-Got the ticket for the fancy shmancy party on the S.S. Anne.

Gym Battle against Misty!
-Roc took out staryu, no sweat. And my investment in my fish paid off when it downed Starmie in three bites! (Aren't Gym battles so much more enjoyable when there's no healing item spam? >.>)
