Rivals

Top three, in order...Silver, Blue, and Cheren/Wally (tied).

Silver has always been my favorite, ever since I first played GSC when I was 11. I loved the character development--at the beginning you just want to smack him, but then over the course of the game he slowly begins to realize his way of doing things was wrong. And then the first time he battles you with that Crobat ^^

Blue is awesome too, but he doesn't really have any character development--he pretty much stays the same throughout the whole game. Still, he's just too amusing.

Wally is adorable, but he's a bit forgettable--though maybe that's just me; I have a hard time remembering anything from RSE. Except the Berries. Oh god the berries ;-;

I liked Cheren's design and personality, but yeah, battling after every badge was really annoying.

As for the rest...

Brendan/May are just...there. They don't really do anything. ...Not that I can recall, anyway.

Barry...I just wanted to tie him up, stick a gag in his mouth, and throw him on the next ship out of Canalave ~_~

Bianca's just irritating, though not as bad as Barry.

Hugh is just as forgettable as Wally, and much less likeable. I don't remember him actually annoying me, but my entire opinion of him is, "Meh."

I don't have a 3DS, so I can't comment on the others.

Edit: I forgot N. How could I forget N? D: He may not be an "official" rival, but he appears every so often to chat and battle, just like the others. He's tied with Blue in second place, making my brain fart even more egregious ;_;

I disliked May, she just had this overconfidence about her which I really despised.

Ironically, I liked the attitude of Silver. His attire, outlook and eventual character development. (bad guy, shallow minded --> somewhat good guy, considerate).

My favorites are Hugh and Silver. Hugh because he had a motivation for being a trainer other than for pointless strength, a thrill for adventure, or to be a researcher; and he was more of a partner than a rival. Silver was a jerk I disliked at first, but had the most development of all the rivals and by the end of the game I found him to be a lovable grouch.

My least favorites are Gary/Blue and Brendan. Gary/Blue was a jerk from beginning to end that I dreaded running into and it wasn't until the sequel that he had mellowed out enough to me to like. Brendan couldn't decide if he wanted to be a partner or rival and just gives up half way through, leaving me so disappointed. Wally was technically a rival, but he came too late in the story and I still consider him to be friend who just happened to get strong enough to battle occasionally.

I like Barry, so annoyingly funny, I named him Tom in my game.

Blue's a jerk. Brendan and May weren't really like rivals. Barry was too hyperactive, and the fine thing got old around about Jubilife City. Hugh...was alright. He didn't unleash his rage enough for me to like him, sadly. Bianca is an airhead, Cheren's pretty cool, loved his comeback in B/W2. My favourite's Silver, cos as mentioned before, his character development's amazing.

Favorite is Hugh and Barry. The former because he was so involved in the plot and a really great rival/friend to the protag. Barry because he's insanely cute even though he's one of the not-so-popular ones. :P I've always found him to be super amusing and fairly strong as a trainer in the games.

No least favorite but Bianca, May, and Brendan never left an impression on me. I didn't like Cheren much until B/W2 either.

I easily loved ??? (I hate to call him Silver because I think of his horrible PokeAdventures counterpart.) Most people think that he had a lot of character development but I think when he ended he was still very selfish and power obsessed, he just eased up on the gas, as he would put it, and that is what I liked about him. He didn't actually changed that much. I was very let down in HG/SS when they made him return to Elm and apologize, the original ??? would have never done that. He became less tough-hearted toward his Pokemon, but he stayed the same general jerk that he had started out as. But in HG/SS they messed him up big time. And don't get me started on PokeAdventures Silver.

I am extremely sick of the rivals being your friends now. And I'm annoyed at the people who try and argue that ??? is a good person, because he clearly is not and really didn't exactly end that way either.

Blue. He was a favorite of mine as a child. :P I don't really have much to say about him, but I actually think he had a bit of character development. He used to be this jerky, over-confident guy who is always optimistic on beating the player. I think he changed after the champion battle and before he became gym leader, because he seemed to have changed. One can see his cocky attitude a bit, but old habits die hard. :d That's just my headcanon, though. but it's canon in a way i think lol

Brendan/May were okay, but I think Wally was the real rival in the games. He was actually serious in his goal, and he was a pain to beat in Victory Road (especially in Emerald, where he appears on the bridge compared to r/s, since he appears at the end giving you more time to grind). Barry was amusing, but yeah, the fine thing did get old after a while. Silver had good development, but I'm not really too fond on him. I didn't play enough B2/W2 to be able to judge Hugh, but he's okay. Bianca felt lame as a rival, much like Brendan and May. Cheren was also okay.

Gary Oak is the best............. lol

My favourite is Barry, I genuinely found him funny and liked the way he kept threatening to fine me 10 million quid if I was late lol xD

My second favourite would probably be Hugh, firstly cause I really like his design and secondly his devotion to his cause is incredibly dedicated; I like that he has such a vested reason for disliking the in-game Team.

Third favourite (sorry I'm doing a Top 3 haha) is Brendan - I know he doesn't feature as heavily as some other rivals but I like the relationship he has with the protagonist.

I liked Silver and Hugh, but I prefer Silver. His demeanor felt like a true rival and someone that I would want to battle when on my own adventure, if that makes sense. In some of the Pokemon games, the 'rival' is basically one of your close friends that you battle multiple times throughout your journey. Gary was the first rival in the entire series, and I feel like he's still the best model of a rival. Someone that you don't particularly like who has the same ambitions as you, and therefore you want to keep them from succeeding, by beating them.
