Save the Earth!!

Hey guys. Haha so I have gotten a little bit too happy with this only petition stuff. But I thought I could use it for the greater good. So I made a petition to save the one thing that we all need right now. Our Earth!! And due to global warming, that is threatening that. Now I don't know what everybody's opinion on Global Warming is, but we cannot deny the fact that the things that we do hurt the environment.
So go to https://www.petitionspot.com/petitions/savetheearth4/ and sign it. And all you have to do is pledge to make the world a better place to live, and to show the government that we care. You don't have to register to sign it. And all you have to do is give your first and last name and email. And when you sign you will receive a thank you email. An online petition may not help alot, but it will show that we all want to stand together and defend what we all love.
So I hope we get loads of signatures and I hope we can make the world a better place to live in!!

INCOMING PREMISE FOR DEBATE

In brief summary, this warm-up is mostly natural.

Dry air contains roughly (by volume) 78.08% nitrogen, 20.95% oxygen, 0.93% argon, 0.038% carbon dioxide, and trace amounts of other gases.

No way we're going to match young Earth's 60%, and yes, life was abundant then.

A little flooding won't kill all life as we know it (an economic crisis is all), and our children's children will be gone long before any of this means anything truely severe...

Whoa, a very large majority of the world's population is threatened by flooding by living in low-lying areas and being vulnerable to flooding in general. Don't underestimate what millions of climate refugees would do to the world's stability if the situation were ever to get that severe, and yes, it would likely be millions.

It's tough to map out the severity of this kind of thing, but seriously, I don't want all of the Midwestern farms to flood (like they did this summer, and being an Ohioan I can tell you that the site was not pretty) or to have Lower Manhattan underwater.

I'm not saying this is all going to happen soon and it will destroy the world, but its effect, if it were to happen, would likely be much larger than you think.

You mean "The Inconvenient Truth".

But The Day After Tomorrow has so many scientific inaccuracies I could fill the whole page with them. The sea levels in New York can't get that high without the polar ice sheets basically giving out entirely, and the eye of the storm of the "snow hurricanes" would actually warm the ground below it since the upper troposphere has warn air. There are like, eight tornadoes in a football field's radius in Las Angeles...don't take it seriously, lol.

Al Gore's movie is largely science - The Day After Tomorrow is complete and utter fiction and honestly only saved by its special effects, but that's another issue entirely.

I believe global warming is real and I sure think it could be troublesome, maybe even in the near future, but at the same time, I'm not going to act like it's going to end the world by literally freezing over all of Europe, the Middle East, Northern Asia, and The USA & Canada (that's a Day After Tomorrow reference for those who don't know).

You can't blow this out of proportion. It's a problem, but it can be solved (though I personally doubt we'll take those necessary steps until it's "too late") and it can't be overblown. Otherwise the denial machine will point to "greedy *insert group of people here*" and that whole debate will fly out of control.

Global Warming is happening, of course. But as has been said, it is a natural process. Mankind is contribnuting, but only on an extremely minute level. No matter what we do, it's still going to happen.

That's why all this "green" stuff annoys me slightly, and I'm almost getting to the point of calling it mere propaganda.

That's just my opinion.

What I mean is that the balance of the world will be disrupted if we continue to dump toxic chemicals into the atmosphere, sea, land etc. The effects will be similar to the movie(except the icy hurricane thingy, which is quite impossible), full of catastrophe.

Well pretty much all of the movie is impossible/EXTREMELY unlikely. The effects might be similar but nowhere near as catastrophic seeing as the United States was completely abandoned.

But I actually like the "going green" thing since it raises awareness and is usually helpful, and taking care of our planet is ALWAYS good, global warming or not. going all doomsday on us kind of bugs me though, since not going green =/= Armageddon...it could, but ugh, I'm so sick of this "it's the end of the world!" stuff as it is, lol.

Yeah...All this man-made global warming stuff is a bunch of crap. I really need someone to explain to me how humans are contributing the destruction of the earth's environment when, as Cassino already said, carbon dioxide makes up such a minute fraction of the atmosphere. It just isn't logical to assume that any amount of carbon dioxide we shove into the atmosphere is going to have a noticeable effect. =/

Say as me. Many people here burns rubber, and they think it's okay. They didn't even mind the acrid odor! I told them that's harming the environment and it's illegal. Instead they snob me off.

Well, instead of paying lip-service to the planet, go out and do something about it. Go recycle, volunteer to clean up a beach, plant trees.. Do something.

Sure we're slowly destroying the planet, but you're not helping much by just sitting on your butt signing an online petition.

problem is, people are lazy, and they say they'll do something, but they dont. I'm not saying that all people are lazy, sure there are groups of people trying to save our planet, but the mass majority just watch and let others do all the work

in my opinion,it is time to pass from invitations to action to law, just as filters and lead-free fuel are a rule in car exhausts, goverments should start shifting from fuel based cars to a secure way(from the wide variety of now alternate means of powering cars, be it electrical or biodiesel, or hydrogen) it sunds harsh and expensive but honestly, if combating global warming continues to be a "voluntary" thing, then this effort is most likely doomed to failure.

I'm not worried as much about global warming as other things. Like the amount of litter people throw down, the useless energy we use, etc. Easy ways to counter act this is by picking up trash you see, recycling, using energy efficent items such as lightblubs, turning the lights off, walking or biking when you can, using your own bags instead of plastic at the market, ect. I'm a huge environmental person, so I could go on and on. XD;;

If you or the government wants to pay for the car I'd gladly accept but I ain't buying a new car on the 'chance' it might save people I'll never know about 100~ years from now...
