BEFORE READING, I OWN BOTH A NINTENDO DS LITE AND A PSP 3000 AND I'VE PLAYED ALL THE "MUST" PLAY GAMES SUCH AS KINGDOM HEARTS, FINAL FANTASY, ETC ETC

hey guys, after having the 3ds and the ngp announced and seen some gameplay.... WHAT IS WRONG WITH NINTENDO!! i mean seriously, you are gonna tell me that the ds is muuuuuuuch better than the psp? no one can say that because we all know how the psp is much better than the ds (lite, since im talking when the psp and ds were released), it has incorporated internet, waaaay better graphics, music player, video player, free game demos, etc etc and the ds back then only had a touch screen and the graphics are ps1 in the BEST games and the rest are still sprites with a liiitle of 3d... you gotta be kidding me -.-" and the same happened with wii when they knew they could do so much better with graphics like xbox 360 (which ps3 kicks it ass but it was released later) and they made some videogame console that has even worse graphics than the ps2??

my point is that the 3ds yeah, its cool, it has a 3d screen and cameras and... oh yeah! NOTHING ELSE NEW! the graphics are psp like and they added one analog stick ¬¬" SERIOUSLY WHATS WRONG WITH YOU!! ngp already has 2 analog sticks, touch pad, touch screen (the ds already had that but im trying to show progress), no games you have to be carrying around, an usb port, bigger screen, thinner, and well... hd graphics and games which we all know they are waaay better than the 3ds game graphics.

when is nintendo going to realize that people want both things, good gameplay and good graphics? from my point of view, nintendo is getting behind and missing all kind of oportunities when its clear that we are in an hd age and 3d age, so why not making them one?!

again, I OWN BOTH DS AND PSP SO I CAN GIVE MY OPINION FREELY AND TALK KNOWING ABOUT IT.

PSP isn't made by Nintendo iirc, the reason Pokémon isn't available on PSP. PSP vs. DS is something of personal preference. I want to get both because both have games that you can only use in a PSP or a DS.

well yes, but im talking about handhelds specs, games are a total different thing. I also bought a ds first becaues of the pokemon and zelda games. I'm trying to point out that nintendo could have made a pokemon game in hd for example

I'm not too fond towards Nintendo myself, but the Nintendo DS is said to be a superior console because it featured a good gameplay innovation and had strong third party support. The PSP was nice and strong and all, but not only did it have little new to bring to the table, it also had a horrible battery life.

And Nintendo is using weaker specs because they have to make a profit on each console. Sony sells consoles at a loss, making up with software sales. They can afford to lose money because they're an electronics company, but Nintendo does gaming only, so they're in trouble if they lose money on the only thing keeping the company alive.

hmmm.. interesting, i agree with the battery and the company thing but still... what about the wii? come on, even the ps2 has better graphics than that! i think that when it came out it was amazing and yes, it was a great strategy because of the new way to play, but dont you think its time for an hd upgrade?

Again, Nintendo has to sell at a profit. They can't make high-end technology and expect to sell at a profit while still being affordable to normal people. Sony also sold the PS2 at a loss when it launched.

And the Wii is stronger than the PS2.

not to end up talking about something else but have you played gran turismo 4? metal gear solid 3? final fantasy 12? whats the wii bset game in graphics? mario kart?

The Wii itself is stronger, it's just that the CD Format that the PS2 uses has a larger memory capacity. Graphics don't matter though, at least in my opinion. A game shouldn't be judged on how much pixels it can have on the screen before the frame rate dips.

And in my opinion, Super Mario Galaxy 2 and Twilight Princess have very good graphics. But that's just my

Nintendo isn't getting behind on things, lmao. I mean, it's fine to have an opinion, and if you think that the PSP is better, then okay. I don't own both, but I've played both, and hey, I prefer the DS. But I wouldn't come in here all up in arms and stompin' around and roaring about the PSP being better.

Graphics don't make much of a difference for me. I don't judge a game on that. If it has nice graphics and such, I mean, that's a plus, but gameplay, plot, and music are far ahead on my rating scale. But I'm not seeing any problem with Nintendo, and I don't think the vast majority of people will. They haven't gone under, have they? So they're still doing well.

Typing in all caps and such makes me think you're yelling at me and I don't appreciate that. Just saying.

i'm not talking about games here, im talking about the handhelds specs.

i put the capital words to make them important, not yelling...

In terms of ~specs~ then, I wouldn't make use of everything the PSP does. I barely make use of what the DS does. I just wanna play games on my consoles, not too much to ask for! But like I said, people are going to have their likes and dislikes for both and prefer one to the other.

That's fine and all, but maybe you could use bold or italics next time? When I read the post, I was just thinking, "Oh my, he's so angry that he's yelling." :(

Internet (be it browser or online gaming), music player, video player, and game demos... the DS does all of that in some fashion. It may not all be built in. Some might require the use of the Wii. And some might be exclusive to specific iterations of the DS, not all. But it supports it. So, really you're argument boils down just to graphics.

And I'll take gameplay over graphics any day.

Also, that's a very short list of must play games. But I can see why you'd need such graphical power to display pointy hair properly.

I'll also like to ask if you have seen the 3ds graphics for youself (so you see the actual 3D effect, not just movies) - and certainly the 3DS seems to be far more powerful graphically than the older DS family.

At any rate, personal preference with gameplay over graphics and whatnot. Looking at the sales over the DS thus far though I'd say Nintendo have a fairly good idea on what makes a successful console in terms of sales though. =p

Part of the problem is the Nintendo has been targeting a completely different audience since the release of the original DS. The touchscreen and motion sensor in the DS and Wii respectively caused developers to pursue gimmick games "for all ages".

This trend has then been followed by other companies, but not as badly (kinect, etc). I loved my Gamecube, but I have no intention of buying a Wii. Or the sequel unless they get their act together and make it a proper gaming console with proper controllers.

raise in specs = higher cost + harder to make games = less games at a higher cost = bad sales
already people are complaining about the 3ds, imagine what people would be saying if the cost is raised another 50 or 100 dollars, just for extra graphics and what not.
we hardly know anything about the NGP other than the specs. what if it's $400-$500 with a game library of like 20? how could you say it's better then?
and you really do have horrible eyes if you think the wii has worster graphics than the ps2. take a look at monster hunter tri and compare it to the ones on the ps2.

    This.
I was nearly shocked when I saw the graphics of some of the games, in this example, the new Resident Evil game. I was very impressed as they are very good. A lot, LOT better than the DS.

I am not a huge fan of Nintendo, but it is down to the games that people want to play as well. There is no point getting a hand-held console when you know there are no games that you like.
I think most people will have made their minds up already due to previous purchases.

However, I do own a DS lite and a PSPgo LOLJK! PSP 3000. I know that I won't end up buying one, 3DS, but there are some interesting game being released. So I might wait and see where they go with it with gameplay.

The 3DS's graphical power is the tradeoff between its price.

Nintendo's success with the Wii (Which, by the way, easily out powers any previous-generation console) and the DS has further solidified their stance that they're aiming for selling systems that maybe have a comparatively lower graphical power than the competition but are sold at a lower price or with a profit margin.

From what we've seen so far, with the 3D rendering disabled (Something which takes a massive amount of power to process) the system is perfectly capable of rendering graphics that can easily stand up to the Wii and include advanced processing like pixel shaders and anti aliasing.

(I'd love to see the reactions to the NGP's price too, when that's announced)

Graphics are nice and all, but they're not necessary. Anyway, the DS and Wii have decent graphical capabilities (less than the other mainstream consoles, but decent); it works for the games that are made on the DS and Wii. It's not like they're big black-and-white pixels that are decades behind the other consoles. :|

Nintendo doesn't rely on huge specs and a few good games to sell their systems; their forte is innovative gameplay and "gimmicks that work". And you know what? They do.

Also, the price of a 3D screen at a HD resolution for the 3DS would be completely impractical at this time.

Not to mention it would either make a dual-screen unit huge with massive HD screens or be even more expensive if you used a small screen with a very high pixel density.
