Red hack: Shin Pokemon Red/Blue/Green/JP builds (Bugfix, AI, and QoL patch)

@jojobear13

Sounds good.

I have a suggestion: when the player first goes to Viridian City and tries to go into Giovanni's gym, to have him/her actually face the gym when the "door's are locked" message comes up. Just a suggestion for the Lite as well as standard build as this appears to be an oversight from the OG game.
Done. Added in commits c84eb036c and e7de90ca4.

Forgot I made an account here lol. Are the legendary birds behind something like getting all the badges or beating the E4? I'm at seafoam now and articuno isn't on the platform. I haven't caught it yet neither.

No.

Not sure why. Need more details for a bug report.

No.

I wouldn't worry about it honestly. I flashed a build from github onto to this random flash cart I have. I bet it isn't the right mbc or something. I had trouble with the strength puzzle also. I had to keep leaving and coming back to even get the boulders to show up lol. It sounds like this cart has issues with overworld objects or something. I'll just move my save to my AP or use my ez flash. I just wanted to make sure there wasn't something extra I needed to do lol.

I thought I remembered someone asking this, but I couldn't find it. Do you have a Discord for Shin? I really enjoy this romhack.
No. But I do lurk over at the Poke'Rom Library where hacks like Shin can be discussed.

Hi, I did everything post game besides fight the person outside bills house, find the mist stone and get past the boulder in digletts cave. I suspect my progress is being blocked by being unable to get past the boulder in digletts cave. Can anyone tell me what to do?

Found how to get around the boulder by watching someone else's stream, you cant go through that way, you have to go to an extremely obscure cave entrance by surfing between fuschia and lavender. The cave has the mist stone in it. Now trying to figure out how to fight the girl outside bill's house, no clues in game how. Fought fuji, silph co, green, no idea on fourth one

Still don't know how to fight the fourth special trainer, after fighting Green she told me to catch mew, I caught mew and theres no leads after that. The notes say to talk to professor oak but he just comments on your pokedex.

When he asks to check your pokedex, reply "No".

Are there any issues with soft resetting for a shiny starter? I am noticing that some dv spreads dont show up. For example only see 20 or 21 hp for bulba and i know they can have 19.

You can reset for a shiny starter. What you are seeing is an effect applied to gifted pokemon where their DV values cannot be lower than 9,8,8,8.

Thanks for the reply. I could have sworn i read that in the documentation and when i wanted to refer back to make sense of the effects i was noticing i could'nt find it. Late last night i realized i can check the dvs by holding start into stats screen and then i was noticing the effects you mention. I came to that conclusion after several hours of dual resets (blue and red). Great that you confirmed it though. Can't wait now

So does that mean the odds for gift pokemon and starters is 1/896?

Let me give you some more info that might also be helpful.

The way that the DVs are kept at those numbers or higher is through a binary OR operation with either 8 or 9. This means that def, spd, and spc can only have a binary value of the form 1xxx. And atk has to fit the form of 1xx1.

Now for a little math. There are 4 possible values for atk and 8 possible values for the other three. Multiply it all together and you get a total of 2048 possible DV combinations for gift Pokemon.

Shiny Pokemon must have the 2nd bit of the atk DV be a 1, and the other DV values must all be 10 exactly. This means the only atk DV values allowed for a shiny gift pokemon are eleven (1011) and fifteen (1111)

This gives the overall shiny chance for a gift pokemon to be 1 in 1024 instead of the standard 1 in 8192.

Hey, not sure if this has been reported but it seems like you can walk through cuttable bushes if you just keep walking into them. I'm playing the latest version of Lite on a Super Game Boy 2.

I've been unable to replicate this. It could be something to do with your flash cart. Is it on a specific bush?

Yep, you're right. I was using an FXPAK Pro in SGB2 mode. I converted my save an tried in on an emulator and it worked as intended. All bushes were effected on the flash cart.

This is a really strange edge case considering it's involving real hardware, I think you should report it to the FXPAK people. I just tested this in the SGB MiSTer Core in SGB2's speed, and I can't get this bug.

From my quick skimming, the FXPAK Pro primarily replicates SNES hardware. I have an educated hunch that it's SGB2 functionality is just an emulator rom; like how Goomba is a GBA rom that emulates GBC games. Real Super Gameboy carts work based on the fact that they essentially have Gameboy guts inside them with some software that facilitates using the SNES as as interface.
