Are Xbox 360s any good? I got money, so... I want gaming, music, save games. My friend told me that Elite is a waste of money, true?

I have Games for Windows live... Does that work with Xbox live?

Well...yeah, they're great...o_o; It's got pretty much any kind of game you could want, but you aren't being specific on what you actually what in a system or any of that...:/

Yes you should get one. There are lots of great games on it but the only drawbacks of it are the RRoD, the somewhat bad xbox live community, the disk getting screwed up if the 360 moves, and the system crashing if you restart, or turn off the 360 during a cutscene in any game.

Yeah RRoD was the reason I asked this, otherwise I would buy it.

No. You should start saving your money for important things like a car, house, wedding, etc.

UH, if you're worrying over the RRoD, it's not that big of a deal. I've had two Xboxs break, but after they sent me my latest one, it hasn't broken for almost...a year or two? But yeah. Most of the new Xboxs have things to prevent most of the problems they had previously.

    Um.. I had my Xbox for 6 months and it never got a RRoD. Granted, I didn't play it much. XD;

RRoD is a hit or miss kind of thing , my friends never broke and his is a first generation 360.
my room mates on the other hand has broken atleast 5 times now and is going to get an extended warranty in case it breaks yet again.

Imo 360's is just a head ache i'd hate to have to be constantly sending it to microsoft to get fixed and if i remember correctly your going to have to pay for shipping as well , which can be a hefty charge after you add up the cost of sending it in multiple times.

Personally if you can , spring for a PS3 yar its not as popular as a 360 but its just as good and the online feature is free as well. And contrary to popular beliefe is actually very active , i can find matches in all the games i own for my ps3 when i bring it online.
its really a nice console , that doesnt break alot :P

The only problem with the PS3 is the less than great selection of titles. :/ It's got a lot of the same games as the Xbox 360, but way less exclusives. It's got MGS4, Killzone 2, and LBP, which compared to Xbox 360's list isn't that great.

Either way, if you go for an Xbox, just be careful with how you place the system and not to put it on carpet. I made that mistake and that's how my first one broke. XD

Yeah thats its only downfall but over the years (or possibly this year?) its selection should be getting alittle better. The best part is that its exclusives are all 5 star titles its kind of difficult to find an exclusive on the ps3 that isnt great.

Anyway yeah if you go for a 360 keep in mind its placement and make sure its fans got optimum space to catch air and prevent over heating.

Says the guy that's engaged to a passive-agressive girlfriend that knocks the batshit out of her boyfriend whenever she can.

    Depends on what you prefer.

PS3 is pricey and doesn't have has many exclusives. But it's online is free and it has a TON of features on it.

Xbox 360s tend to sometimes get the RRoD from overheating (so your best to buy a cooler fan just to be sure) and you have to pay for online. But it has some good list of exclusives (Halo 3, Fable 2 etc.) and is good value for money.

Uncharted, Uncharted 2, God of War III, WipEout HD, Valkyrie Chronicles, Ratchet and Clank, Motorstorm, 1&2, GT5, Siren:Blood Curse, heavy Rain, SingStar etc would all like to say hi.

Bearing in mind I only named exclusives that I have/have had/will buy and would recommend. I deliberately missed out games like Haze and L.A.I.R on the fact that Haze is just Halo but somewhat worse (A great feat I know) and L.A.I.R Should of being titled F.A.I.L.

360 has what, Gears 2 and Fable 2? They're the only two decent exclusives I can think of. I guess it has Lips, but face it, no one wants an inferior clone of SingStar.

XBLMarket Place does have Castle Crashers tho <3

Anyway OP, I'll be honest here with you. Buy a 360 if you like shooters or racing games or being abused online, if you want something with more in depth/casual/platforming/story based games go for PS3. 360's online is apparently better, however all I;ve ever had from it is a bunch of racist 12 year olds screaming. It also costs you £40 for 12 months. Playstation has near enough the same amount of players online now, but the online is free. On 360 you get miis avatars, on PS3 you get Second Life Home.

Both have Call of Duty 4, both have Burnout paradise, both have Resi 5, both have FF13, both have Bioshock etc. So really, you won't be missing out on the best titles whatever way you go, bar for games like MGS4 or gears 2.

Despite the fact I own a 360, Like other people said. RRoD is a hit-and-miss thing.
[I've had my 360 for 6 months, and played it for at least 3-4 hours a day and nothing]

PS3's alot more stable as a system.

Though I'd go with the 360, tbh.
360's are pretty awesome. With some decent Exclusives to boot.

You can avoid RRoD if your system is a Jasper model i think.
OP, if you buy a 360 DO NOT buy it pre-owned.

Depends, a good PC can play just about every game the 360 has, usually better too. If you don't have a gaming PC, then by all means, go buy one, but most likely you can build a gaming PC for the same price.

If the Jasper model is the one where Microsoft supposedly fixed the RRoD back in October, then I guess you can.
Definitely don't buy a pre-owned one. You WILL want the warranty, because the 360 has a ton of hardware components crammed inside that tiny space (there are 8 GPUs in there, I think), and if it was assembled improperly, they can completely fry.

I've been using an Xbox Arcade since Christmas of '07 and have had no problems so far. However, if you're main goal is to play Xbox Live (as 90% of xbox gamers do) you should but the Elite. Also, the things said about PS3 and Live's online community are greatly exaggerated. I can assure you that the PSN isn't a ghost town, and that not every Live member is a racist twelve year old. As a matter of fact, I've been playing Call of Duty: WaW since last Christmas and have probably run into one or two racist players.

Yeah to be honest i dont really see a difference between live and psn , i have access to both and to be honest there fairly simliar. the mii knock off is really the only thing i can think of that live has over psn.
If all you care about is playing your game online then theres no difference between the two.

That said if you got the cash get a 360 its a great console but seriously get the warranty and extend it every chance you got , you do not want to pay 120$ to fix an issue with out it.
