I probably will. But I want some opinions.

Do it. You won't regret it, and you'll spend far less on apps and other ******** for your iPod.
That being said, you also will not suffer the stupid pointless draconian measures Apple takes to make the extra buck.

How old is your iPod? If it's past the waranty period you have nothing to lose.
Just consider that you may void your waranty.

What draconian measures? Unless you're endorsing piracy and comparing legally buying stuff on iTunes rather than just ripping it off a repository out there, which is bound to have issues on this forum.

I would, but don't do it until there are jailbreaking tools for iOS 4 (which is coming out today). This will prove useful, as multitasking is not supported on the 3G or the Touch 2nd Gen, and jailbreaking makes that an option on that hardware.

Well, to those who might enjoy it, the iPhone Dev Team already released a jailbreak of iOS 4 Public. Thing is, it's only for the 3G and the 2nd Gen iPod Touch.

I already downloaded/installed it. It's pretty nice, but Terminal crashes every time I open it.

    HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA... funny

    ...Ahem /tieadjust

I believe I have made Pachy's point all too obvious.

    Spoiler:

I'll keep jailbreaking until Apple gives us the ability to delete/hide applications that Apple preinstalls.

I don't have stock, so I should I have to waste valuable screen real estate?

Waiting myself for 3GS (new bootrom) tools.
Jailbreaking brings so many benefits. If I were you, unless you've got a iPod Touch 2G (non-MC), wait for geohot's new blackra1n.

However, you'll have to find out on your own how to get free apps, if that's what you're looking for.

Jailbreaking allow root access, meaning it's easier for people to access your phone through hacking.

Changing the root password fixes this.

Also, to change the root password, once you have jailbroken, download MobileTerminal from Cydia.

    Fire it up and type:

    Code:
    passwd
    Then type (no quotes) "alpine".
You will then be asked to enter a new password. Simply type it, hit enter. You will be asked to confirm it. Type it again, hit enter.

By all means, jailbreak it. You can add functionality that way. For instance, I have installed a tweak that will allow five icons on the dock, rather than four. And there's this other tweak I installed that extends the functionality of the volume control. How does it work? Press both volume buttons to play or pause music, hold "volume up" for a few seconds to skip forward a track, and "volume down" to skip back a track.
