Should Legendaries be able to breed?

    The title pretty much says it all. Do you think you should be able to breed legendaries? Since most legendaries are genderless, it would only be possible to breed most of them with a Ditto. However, if they did have gender, they would be able to then also have egg moves (moves only obtainable when bred with a father knowing the move). As of right now, the only breedable legendaries are Manaphy and Phione. Do you think they should be able to breed, and, if so, which egg groups do you think they should belong to? Here are the egg groups I think they should belong to if they were able to breed:

    Articuno/Zapdos/Moltres: Flying
    Mewtwo: Amorphous
    Mew: Ditto (since it can transform like Ditto)
    Raikou/Entei/Suicune: Field
    Lugia: Water 1 and Flying
    Ho-Oh: Flying
    Celebi: Fairy and Grass
    Regirock/Regice/Registeel: Mineral
    Latios/Latias: Dragon and Monster
    Groudon: Monster
    Kyogre: Water 2
    Jirachi: Fairy
    Deoxys: Amorphous
    Uxie/Mesprit/Azelf: Fairy
    Dialga/Palkia/Giratina: Dragon and Monster
    Darkrai: Amorphous
    Cresselia: Fairy
    Heatran: Monster and Mineral
    Regigigas: Mineral
    Shaymin: Field and Grass
    Arceus: Ditto (because he is adaptable to any type, therefore any egg group)
    Victini: Fairy and Human-like
    Cobalion/Terrakion/Virizion/Keldeo: Field
    Tornadus/Thundurus/Landorus: Human-like
    Reshiram/Zekrom/Kyurem: Dragon and Monster
    Meloetta: Human-like
    Genesect: Insect and Mineral
     
    Having them able to breed would ruin the mystique legendaries carry. Only one of that specific Pokemon exists in that game. Why ruin a good thing?

    People who play the games gear their teams up to carefully go after each legendary. Having them breed just seems pointless.
     
    I'm agreeing with Sweet Candace on this one. Besides it would ruin the fun of spending hours and large amounts of Balls being tossed if a friend can simply breed whatever legendary you will need.

    I agree as well. It ruins the mystery and wonder of the what makes them legendary.

    Besides I definitely can't see Reshiram or Zekrom reproducing. Same with Groudon, Kyogre, Rayquaza, Lugia, Ho-oh, Mew, or especially Giratina, Dialga, Palkia or Arceus reproducing. Especially Arceus.

    Side-note: That's basically why I hate the Pokemon Mangas so much.
     
    I think it would be nice if we could breed legendaries, but like others have said that would defeat the purpose of calling them legendaries.
     
    From a gamer's point of view, it ruins the point of legendnaries and makes them essentially identical to other Pokemon. From a tactical point of view, I can now see noobs running around with teams of Uber legendaries saying how epic they are because they never lose a battle. It's a definite no from me.
     
    Noo, they're called legendary Pokemon for a reason! Would would be the point of them being special and one-of-a-kind (although everyone could catch that)?

    It would be really cool if you could breed certain legendaries in the case that..
    Let's say I have an Articuno, and it breeds with a certain pokemon, perhaps holding a certain item - you get the egg, blablabla.. an Articuno doesn't hatch, but imagine some sort of baby version of Articuno that doesn't evolve? Like a new pokemon completely~ (think smoochum/Jynx etc). I'd love having a baby Articuno :p

    But yea, multiplying legendaries like bunnies doesn't make too much sense

    Manaphy can already do that, but it would be really cool to have that apply to some other legendaries as well. Perhaps the reasoning for that could be that it takes incredibly long for these "baby" legends to evolve or "grow" into their final forms. So that it wouldn't happen within the course of the game (or, possibly, a human lifespan).
     
    Legendary Pokemon other than Manaphy can't breed for a reason: that reason is that GF probably wanted to keep the uniqueness of the legendary Pokemon.
     
    I wish you could breed them. To make it a little more challenging they could, say, only let a Latios breed with another Latios. You'd have to get a second one in order for anything to happen and Ditto wouldn't cut it.

    I understand the uniqueness preservation but I think now with wifi trading and the like, that's just sort of become a moot point. That and there are so many freaking Legendaries that you can wander the world and accidentally come across one or two, so they've already sort of killed that special feeling of wonder when you see one. Now it's just more of an "oh god I have to catch another one??" So I don't think it matters much anymore that Legendaries are supposed to be limited. The game certainly doesn't seem to think so.
     
    No, I don't like the thought of it.

    Why? It would ruin their rarity, Dialgas would become as easy to get as Patrats, Lugia would not be rare and beautiful anymore. The thing is, they would be Legendary.

    I do know Manaphy can do that, however it would be cool if there were different legendaries that could. At least a "reborn phoenix" sort of thing with Ho-Oh, right? That could be sort of cool. I'm not saying to make a myriad of baby legendaries or anything, definitely keep the "uniqueness" (like Lightning said, legendaries aren't really special anymore =P) factor in but.. kinda losing train of thought.

    I definitely wouldn't have the pokemon evolve into the original by any means - unless the original was unobtainable before hand. It would be really awesome if we could get a game set in the past with not many new pokemon and maybe have baby forms of legendaries - I think that's what I'm hoping for really. I just want a baby articuno xD will never happen though!

    ...No they're not. Most of them are based off of myths and legends.

    Moltres: Based of the phoenix of Slavic or Arabian origin, or more likely the Suzaku

    Zapdos: Based of the Thunderbird of Native American legend.

    Articuno: Based of the Rokh. An arctic bird of Arabian Ankh legend.

    Ho-Oh: Based off the Huma bird of Iranian myth.

    Lugia: Based of the Ryujin,t he Shinto Ocean God.

    Suicune: Based off the Quilin. A legendary unicorn of both Chinese and Japanese myth.

    Entei: Chinese Guardian Dog.

    Raikou: Raiju. Thunder Demon of Japanese Lore.

    I'm not gonna explain the Regis because is funny that you think they should be able to breed.

    Kyogre: Based of the Leviathan

    Groudon: Based of the Behemoth

    Rayquaza: Based of the Ziz. All 3 based off of Hebrew myth.

    The 3 Lake Spirit Pokemon are based of the Imperial Regalia of Japan. Which by the way are not animals.

    Dialga and Palkia are based off of Izanami and Izanagi. Giratina based off the Basilisk. Again all 3, not animals.

    Cresslia and Darkrai are based off the Crescent Moon and the New Moon, respectively.

    Shaymin is based off a hedgehog, so far the only one based off an animal. And of course Arceus isn't based off an animal.

    Zekrom and Reshiram are based off of Yin/Yang respectively.

    I'm not gonna explain the rest. I think I made my point.
