Showgan -- Standing On Edge (Invitational)

Not open for further replies.
OOC: Meh, okay...I was only half-kidding, figured it would be a possibility, if perhaps not a very likely one. But that's as far as I am willing to compromise, Melissa. XD

And, like, congratulations on drawing the foxy, Charon. ^-^ Although I'm not too wild about the bleeding paw bit (Poor thing).

IC:

Rai looked up as the subject of getting a move on was suddenly brought up, snapping out of his thoughts.

"Oh yes, of course." he said, slightly embarassed, "I almost forgot about that...yes, we really should get going or the gym might be closed by the time we make it there."

The boy gave the Vulpix one last, affectionate stroke before allowing the little fox to leap back into his arms, straightening his back for walking again while Kaika remained contentedly carried, definitely finding this method of transportation to be far more enjoyable than what he was used to.

"I'm going back to town, at least." Rai commented to the others, pretty sure that at least two of them would be coming as he noticed that Jena looked like she was feeling a bit awkward, whereas Maxie seemed to be watching the proceedings with a measure of jealousy, "You're free to come at your leisure, I'll be waiting by the foot of the mountain in case you have anything you need to sort out." with that, the boy turned and began walking into the forest at a clam pace so as to not leave anyone who wished to follow behind.

OOC: Aha! I've exposed Alter's true intentions! XD

And I have days like that Charon. One day instead of actually paying attention to my teachers, I just worked on a drawing of an eagle. I dunno why, I just found the eagle more interesting than them. Well, actually, I didn't work on it in this one class that I sat in the front of. The teacher probably would have gotten mad at me and asked me tough questions. >.>

Zachary
==========

"I'm all for going into town," Zachary replied to Rai's offer, "I'm afraid I'll run into the awful Raven again. Who knows, she might slap the other side of my face." He rubbed his cheek a little, thinking more about Silver's concern than Raven's slap for some reason.

A faint sound of buzzing was in the air, and Zachary heard it again, as he had in the Pokemon Center. This was really bugging him, but he decided not to speak up about it until he figured out more about it. He suspected it was perhaps the Magnemite, Electron, but why would the little electric type be here? He had said he was searching for something, why stay around him?

Oh well, Zachary would have to wait to find out. Getting Ron and Luka to a nice, safe place was his top priority, and while the weren't badly injured, he still didn't like leaving them less than tip-top shape.

OOC:

WHAAAAA!!!! The stupid thingy deleted my post!

KEYBOARD! You are now hated!

*combusts*

IC:

Kayley had been paying attention for the most part since she had last spoken, although she felt no need to comment on what Rai had said about his mother. She didn't really need to know such things anyway. Now she was simply nodding as the boy stated he was going back into town, and then proceeded to supress what would have been a slight chuckle at Zach's following comment.

"I see where you're coming from." Kayley finally spoke up, directing her voice at Zach before turning in the direction Rai had started off in. "But yes, I'm coming, too!"

She barely got those words out before she instantly started tripping over Kinaki, the Trainer not expecting the Mawile to have been hanging around, effectively forcing Fishy from his perch atop his Trainer's head, the Mudkip immediately taking a plunge downwards and into a nearby bush. Yes, he had managed to let out somewhat of a scream along the way.

"Wh-Wh-Hello!" Kayley stuttered as she stumbled back to into balance, the Mawile on the ground now bursting with laughter. "Um, yes, well.. You get back to your mother soon! Come on, Fishy!" Kayley continued, reaching down to pluck the now dazed Mudkip out of his place in the bush.

{Th-That was some cheesecake, Grandma~!} Fishy blurted out in confusion, while his Trainer finally got around to following Rai.

{Heh heh! Silly fishy is funny! In fact, you all are so very funny!} Kinaki commented, seemingly oblivious to the fact that she had just tripped Kayley (if she was, that was probably the reason she was laughing), the Mawile hopping in place for a little while before setting off after Kayley.. Or rather, the Mudkip she was holding in her hand.

OOc-

I always draw in class.(And actually manage not to fail o.O)The teachers never seem to notice for some reason.XD

Calm down, Plushie. Calm down.XD
The keyboard is out to get me as well, how many times have a pressed the wrong button and erased an important document...-_-

Ic-

"Eh, I'll go too."Jena stated, following after Kayley and Zachary. Perhaps a good stroll would help her shake off the unwanted thoughts and awkwardness, yes, that was it.

The girl stepped back as Kayley tripped over the Mawile which had been following them since the incident at the Pokemon Center. She would have rushed over to help her up if she hadn't gotten up so fast.

"Eh,Kayley.You okay?"she asked, the Steel type looked cute, even if it was packing a deathtrap behind its head. As it continued after Kayley, even though the girl had told her to go and find her mother, it made Jena wonder.

"Hey, I think it likes Fishy."Jena commented, noting that Kinaki was staring at the Mudkip in her arms.The girl had completly forgotten about the Tailow perched on her own shoulder. Who was know sleeping soundly. Being a young one and all, she didn't have as much energy as the rest. By the looks of it, the others had forgotten of her existence as well.

{Is that a new, unknown face I spot?Hello!}Orjen was holding tightly onto his trainer's head because of the swaying a moment before. The Wurmple let go of the girl's head, realising Kinaki's pressence. Wow, was that funny looking Pokemon strange. Having an extra mouth was considered weird to the Bug type, for he had rarely seen these few Pokemon other then those who lived in forests. Not entirely true however, the Jolly pokemon did see others, like those who lived in alleys and such. But that..that was a special and unmentionabel case. Orjen felt a shiver down his spine as he thought of these situations.

{ooc| Nyah, same here, Yibber. Either no one notices or no one cares. Though... English classrooms are different to American ones. We have tables which four people sit around, rather than individual desks, in our classroom.}

Maxie watched everyone go. She and Fang exchanged glances, but today the bat wasn't giving anything away. Normally Fang's expression told her everything; normally she knew his opinion better than her own. Opinions are like the plums on the backs of riceballs; you knows yours is there, but you never can be sure.
Today he was being secretive. Hiding from her.
"Fang?" she asked, as she fell in step behind Jena, "What's wrong?"
The bat twitched. {Maxie... I... miss Sephy.}
Maxie knew him well enough to know this wasn't the problem. They both missed Sephy. Why would he conceal it? "And?"
{And...} his voice dropped, {And.... these people... you care about them, don't you?}
"Don't be silly!" Maxie hissed, her stomach clenching. Fang had hit the nail on the head. She was starting to care, and she was getting deeper than she liked.
{Oh. That's okay then. Because... if we had to dispatch them... if we were hired to... would you?}
Maxie, despite herself, nodded. Fang relaxed noticeably, and turned his ears forward.
The girl followed the others, with a distinct sinking feeling. "I don't like this..." she muttered.

OOC: Yes, we usually have individual desks/chairs. However, there are some rooms (like the one I have Japanese in, and of course lab rooms for science) that have tables with four people around them. Kids over here tend to talk to each other more in that particular set-up though, so I think that's why they discourage it. I personally like it better.

O.O Combusted?!! Someone grab the fire exstingui-- oh... too late.

Aww... poor Maxie.

Zachary
==========

Zachary felt a little lonely without Ron out of his pokeball. It was a bit strange... the little Aron was so lively and truly was the boy's best friend, so for him to be gone made him feel a bit unsure and uncomfortable. He thought about bringing Ron back out, but he didn't know how badly hurt the Aron was, and figured that he needed some rest. So he stopped himself.

Ron had been with him for quite some time now, and even though it hadn't been even more than a couple years, Zachary couldn't really picture how his life was before the steel-type.

He found himself wanting to talk to someone, but not really having an idea on who to talk to. He could talk to Rai, he was a good person, but what would he talk about? The battle? No, that was stupid.

He could talk to Silver... but, for some reason his mind kept telling him to keep a short distance from her. Why he didn't really know, but it seemed like the right thing to do for now.

There was also Maxie, but she was somewhere in the back of the group, and Zachary heard some mumbling coming from where she was, so he figured she had wanted to be left alone. He instead looked to the other two girls that he was with, and still didn't really know too much about.

"Uh, hey Jena, Kayley, how're you two doing?" he asked them, trying to start a conversation. Ugh... Ron was gone for ten minutes and he suddenly turns into Mr. Stupid.

OOC: Heh, I usually sleep (Or rather, just hang over my desk with my eyes shut) in class, during those few times when there isn't something worth listening to, no group discussion going on, or no notes to take, although those times aren't that many...except for finnish class. Ahh...I ran across the lil' Dunsparce I doodled there the other day. Speaking of which, I should really check on my half-finished pixel art sometime. I swear my unshaded Zapdos is staring at me hatefully as I type this. @_@

IC:

Rai had barely managed to take a few steps into the forest by the time that everyone else had announced that they were coming too, although all of them proceeded with the actual coming process at their own pace, Maxie lagging on behind, holding a shushed conversation with Fang, while Jena and Kayley were around the middle of the group, Jena just having started out a conversation with what Rai considered to be a surprisingly accurate conclusion for someone who claimed not to be any good at understanding pok?mon. The boy couldn't help cracking a smile as he proceeded to comment on it, Jena sure was far from most of the girls he had met during his time in less-than-freedom as they tended, as a rule, to be very carefull about always pointing out what meager skills or other benefits they possessed, constantly fishing for compliments among the males in the room but really lacking both the wit and the knowledge for any real discussion, while Jena on the other hand seemed, in fact, to be the exact opposite; always downplaying her own abilities and pointing out her worst sides whenever confronted with a compliment. And judging by what she had contributed to discussions, it also seemed fairly obvious that she was quite knowledgable about a great deal of things, not only proving her claims to the contrary false but also making her supposed background of being a Mareep rearer seem even more suspicious to him. Now of course, Rai still didn't exactly know what a Mareep rearer was, but somehow the mere term seemed to indicate a person with a general lack of any and all knowledge that wasn't directly related to rearing Mareep, and the way she curtesied, a bit clumsy though it was, didn't seem like something any sensible working class family would raise their children to do. There was clearly more to the girl than what she was letting on, and Rai was growing an ever stronger urge to find out what. The real question in this instance was the method, though. Straight out questioning would naturally not work, this the boy knew because he had often been subjected to that technique himself, and besides, it was simply too rude an option to even consider. No, the only way to get to know these things would be to earn the right to do so, who knew? Perhaps if he got to know her a bit better he would even understand these things without needing to ask.

With this in mind, the boy slowed his pace just a bit so as to be able to converse with both Jena and Kayley in a less awkward manner, but before he could even open his mouth, Zachary had already entered the scene, far less gracefully alas, and made a rather awkward attempt at starting out a conversation, obviously noting that it was awkward himself as well, judging by the expression on the boy's face.

Feeling that it would be alltogether rude to make his own start as it was, Rai remained silent, although he kept a comfortable distance for both conversation and listening.

OOC:

Sleeping in class?

Actually, I did that at an after school program, once. We had to sit down and be lectured on the basketball court or something, so I just up and fell asleep with my face between my knees. Of course, one of my friends slapped me awake as the EVIL SUPERVISOR turned his hawk stare on me. But alas, he had already caught me in the act.

And yeah, of course I was gonna totally eat it then, but luckily my Mom showed up to pick me up from school in that instant. XDDDD

Oh, and I appreciate your efforts LA. However.. *is fried from earlier combustion*

DESKS! I must comment on desks before I forget, yes?

The only class in which we ever sit at individual desks would be in math, and even then there's a low chance of that happening. We almost always sit with a partner or with a group of four people.

In every one of my other classes we always sit in groups of four.

Aw snap, gotta go to bed now.. WHY?! >.<

OOc-

All the teachers here are too watchful,they like,call out your name if they see that you're going to fall asleep.Don't know why they can't see peeps drawing and doodling on their notes and textbook,its like,so strange.(<ish so gulity for doing both.XD)

Anyway,we sit in pairs for all the classes,except for Home Eco.*Can't wait to burn the school down*>D
Ooh,and History Lessons in the Lecture hall are okay,except that they go on for way too long and people actually fall asleep.The worst thingy is that if you fall asleep,you'll get spotted no matter how far away you sit from the teacher.That is why I pretend to copy notes with my head down and snooze til' my friend pokes me and asks me what's the answer for question no.4 everytime.XD

Ooh,and another weird subject we have to take here ish 'Character Development'.
They actually get this DOG TRAINER dude over to teach us about being attentive,alert and other Feebas values I don't think I'll get around to remembering.XD

Ic-

"Eh?I'm...feeling quite fine right now,Zach.Thanks for asking?"Jena gave the boy an awkward look before answering his question. Behind her Maxie and Fang were whispering to each other, once again having their own secret chat.

True, the silence had gone on for quite some time already, that it was starting to bother Jena. Zachary probably wanted to strike up conversation. Which was a good thing to do. Even if he had to start it by saying something....unexpected.

"Yeah, it does get a little boring after awhile if no one talks."the girl agreed by nodding, managing a smile before realising that she had just answered question which was never asked. Grinning sheepishly, she noticed that Rai had slowed his pace, now listening in to whatever they were talking about. Which didn't really amount to much. He looked as if he had wanted to say something.

"Eh? You've anything to say?"she directed the question to Rai, grabbing Orjen from her head and placing him onto the shoulder not occupied by a Tailow.The Wurmple coughed, waving once more to the Mawile.

{Hello new friend,pal,companion who has an extra mouth,jaw,screaming metal death trap on her head!!}he called out,not really finding it irritating that Kinaki wasn't replying.Perhaps she didn't hear him clearly the first time. Or maybe his small size. Yes, that was it! Often did random humans and Pokemon alike nearly squish him. How the Bug type wished he'd evolve, become a strong Dustox like his uncle.

OOC: Whoa, lucky break, Plushie. ^-^ Luckily enough, the teachers in my school don't usually try to nail me with the tough questions because in everything except Physics I tend to have an answer at the ready anyway, and in Physics I sitt stealthily by the edge of the class so that she doesn't notice me very much. :bandit:

As for desks...it depends on the class. They're nearly always just basic, individual desks that are arranged in some kind of formation. It's usually a bunch of lines with a few gaps in between so people can walk through, except for Theory of Knowledge class where the desks are always arranged in a semi-circle facing the teacher's desk (Which is a lot large than ours are. XO), and certain English classrooms where we have this nice, round tables (Shaped like a circle except that there's a roundish chunk of it missing in each), the good thing about those is that they can be socketed onto each other (Courtesy of the 'missing' chunks) to form a larger table, although usually those are arranged in a semi-circle facing the teacher's desk too, because certain teachers like to be able to spy on everyone at the same time.

IC:

"Oh, it's...nothing important." Rai replied, suddenly feeling slightly incorteous for just listening in to other people's talk, still, he had been asked to speak so he might as well, although a new question had already popped into his mind; "I was just wondering..." he continued, "What got you into pok?mon training? All of you, I mean..." the boy added to the rest of the group, "Myself, well, I really didn't have a choice at first..." he absent-mindedly stroked Kaika a bit as he spoke, "You see, my parents are both experienced trainers, and mother in particular was very persistent about passing on that knowledge to me. And...well, once I had done it a bit, I had already grown too attached to Chupon and Ashura to quit." he shrugged, "Besides, the battles are rather fun...as long as people don't take it too seriously, and it's because of becoming a trainer that I finally got my chance to set out on my own, so I can't say that I regret it." he took a small pause, "Anyhow, what about the rest of you?"

OOC: It's Friday! Whoo! I know I said it's Friday in the other RP too, but I just felt like saying it again. ^-^

Really? All you guys sit in at least pairs (well, Alter's is different... a bit)?? Guh... the schools over here must be... how shall I put this? Oh yes, dumb. It's no wonder that most Americans have poor group skills. -_-;;

Anyway, onto posting.

EDIT: OMG OMG! Page 43!!! *dies* I shall dedicate it to better weather!! ((In hopes of Alter not freezing to death.))

I keep landing on the first post of the page for these big RPs. XD Well, I guess I haven't too much in this one....

Zachary
===========

"Oh. Good," Zachary said, nodding to Jena's response. He figured he should have just kept his mouth shut, now he did look odd. He couldn't help but try and talk though, he most certainly was not the kind of person that did well alone; that he knew from experience.

Still, he didn't know what else to talk about, and so he distanced himself from the two girls for a moment, unsure of what to do with himself. Then Rai began to ask them why they had started out as a pokemon trainer.

Zachary pondered this for a moment, before settling on something to say. "I became a trainer because I wanted to get away from home. No one ever leaves my area if they grew up there. Or so it seems. People just... continue this cycle of poor, violent, street urchin-like way of living, and I wanted to get away from it. The only way for me to do it was to become a trainer. Plus, I had Ron, and figured it was worth a shot. Also... and don't laugh, but I've never really had good friends like you guys. My friends back home were all real losers, nothing like you guys," he paused, thinking for a moment, "I guess that's about it. I like pokemon. I've always wanted to catch a Skarmory, an Onix, and... well, a Togepi." He looked around, waiting for someone to laugh or poke fun at him. Togepi weren't exactly as cool sounding as the other two, and boys weren't known to be big fans of the spike-ball pokemon.

{ooc| I love my school =3 today we had 'enterprise day' for my year, so we had a day off timetable doing fun and stupid games while learning about business. I, for one, was very proud of the Sattelite Navigated Shoe that Stu, Tom and I proposed to make. Especially the lovely diagrams of people using them. I'll scan them in one day, they're so funny - they include a guy wanting to find a pet shop, a guy manuvering around a fat cat in a pet shop, and a lovely diagram of how europeans see a man on the moon and the japanese see a rabbit xDDD *insanity*
I'm sick again, though.
I wish my Mum would pick me up from sports, Plush. I was being very proper and playing cricket after school ages ago, but the game was cancelled due to FREAK STORMS and I had to wait in the rain for a bus... ;;}

The zubat peered ahead. He had only just realised, they were heading towards the pokecenter. He clicked his teeth anxious, and licked his lips.

Maxie's mind was elsewhere - she didn't notice him twitching.
Rai's question had got her wondering, but Zachary's answer spurred her thoughts even more.
"I never imagined you coming from a....poor background, Zach. You're so polite and gentle. I had a lot of work in... well, one of those areas once... I didn't like it, I was always so wary. I never felt I could relax." she said honestly, not noticing how biggoted her statement had sounded. Of course, Maxie was hardly subtle, and mostly she said what she thought. Her prejudices were there, and for a very good reason.

"Interesting question..." she murmured out loud, and squeezed Fang's wing tip. "The only reason to get me into this whole... pokemon thing... was Fang. I've had him since forever.... in fact, I can't remember being without him."
{I think we're the same age.} Fang added proudly. {I look pretty good for fourteen, right?} he flexed his lithe wings, and tucked them closer to his body.
"Anyway... This little bat, we said we'd give it a go. We had some adventures, I'll tell you." she smiled to herself. Ah, how those times had been beautiful. Fighting against Mika... sharing secrets with Luna... they been so young then. They had all been girls with their lives in tatters.

She sighed, and smiled back at Zachary. "I also wanted to get away. Mr. Kosloski, he's pretty tyrannical when he wants to be. I wanted to...prove to my foster parents I wasn't just a... a..." she bit her lip. The word was 'slave', but she couldn't tell the others that. "I wanted to prove I was more. My Mum was a very...unsavoury person."
Maxie yawned. Had her mother lived like Zachary? Maxie had long since accepted she ould never find out.

She shook her head fiercely. Past is past, she thought, and cuddled Fang a bit closer. She glanced back at Jena and Kayley. Now, her story would be interesting. A mareep rearer...? To Maxie, it seemed like a bit of a role play.

That Satellite Shoe thingy sounds interesting.^^

On other irrelevant topics, me English teacher took my English Journal and read it out infront of the whole class. She was like, all impressed with me and stuffers(can't understand why though.o.O). Funneh thing is that the topic we had to write on was abou whether writing gives us stress or not,so I went all positive and ranted abou writing not giving stress and wrote a 5 page long entry.X3
And then, she like passed me this form, along with three other dudes(Like,I was the only girl to write a positive entry for this topic.-_-;; )to sign up for this national essay contest.XDD

Oooh,and I hope you get better Charon.>_<;;

And, judging by the time since the new year started, I should have fallen sick right about now too..XD

My friggin' keyboard just deleted half of my post!!!!!>O
So, it is true!The evil keyboards are out to get us!!!*bites keyboard out of anger*

Ic-

"Eh?!"Jena was taken by surprise on Rai's question, regretting the fact that she had asked him in the first time. Just how exactly was she supposed to answer that? While Maxie and Zachary answered, the girl bit her lip and tried to think up of a solution. More or less, she was still listening.

Rai's explanation sounded hauntingly familiar for some reason, but it seemed like he had gone through training like her. Zachary on the other hand was very unexpected, him growing up in such a condition. It was a wonder why he didn't turn into one of those boys who he had described seconds before. Infact, he seemed like the opposite. But, the girl wasn't an expert of these things now was she? Being locked up in the school almost everyday. Maxie on the other fin, didn't make her feel any better as well. Looked like she had gone through some tough times, the girl had foster parents. Which just made Jena worried for them. Though, having a Pokemon for you whole life must have felt good.

Then, she noticed that Maxie was staring at her and Kayley. Feebas, was it her turn already?Kayley wasn't replying, and she didn't want anyone to suspect her for keeping secrets...or something like that.

"Eh?! Me? Well,um...I'm not really a good Pokemon trainer. So, my Mama and Papa asked me to start training myself and bring glory to the family name. But I didn't like battles then, and I don't like battles now, so yeah.They got angry at me, I don't want to see them angry again. So I've decided to win the contests around the region to show that I'm not just a stupid daughter who can't rear Mareep properly."she said firmly, hopefully, telling them half of a third of the truth wouldn't make her feel gulity at all. No, not at all.

{You're fourteen!}Cascade who had kept quiet for no particular reason suddenly gasped. And to think that he was only about 5 to 6 years old.

OOC:

Yay! I have time to post an IC today! ^-^

..Wait.

Yibber's just been invited to attend a national essay-writing contest.

..And suddenly it all made sense. o.o

IC:

Kayley merely chose to listen in silence as the conversation became much more interesting thanks to Rai's contribution. She enjoyed hearing about all these different backgrounds.. Especially Jena's. All this stuff about Mareep-rearing sure had been strange the first time the other girl had mentioned it. And although Jena seemed to be telling the truth, Kayley still had a feeling in her gut..

But decided against saying anything on the matter when she realized that it was high time for her to share.

"Well.. Let's see.. I decided that I wanted to be a Trainer.. Some time after I got Fishy." Kayley began, looking up into the treetops as she touched on old memories. The Mud Fish didn't seem to notice too much, he was still shaking off the dizziness from his fall within the safety of her arms. "It's just that it had always been something that I considered doing at one point or another. Taking care of Fishy just encouraged me."

At this point she paused slightly to glance down at the Mudkip in her arms. Annoyingly enough, he was now sulking about life and not paying attention in the least.

"My mother didn't really want me to take that path. She would've preferred that I got completely into her field and surpass her in it. In fact, I was lucky that she even allowed me to keep him, really. I played along with her dream for while, but after I got Razz it was plain for even her to see that I wanted to get into training. The rest of the story is easy enough to guess; I studied and prepared for life as a Trainer, while my mother tried to persuade me not to go. And here I am, on my first attempt at a journey." She concluded.

Meanwhile, Kinaki was silently chuckling at Orjen. The truth was, she hadn't even noticed the Wurmple trying to greet her until the second time, and by then it was obvious that the Bug-Type was already impatient, even though she hadn't caught the first 'Hello!'

So she didn't respond, merely glancing at the Wurmple and pretending not to notice him. She just chuckled a little more, taking care to make sure that she was still following Kayley.

{ooc| my keyboard actually has a button that says 'close' on it and if you press it by accident it closes your window... More times than I can count, my dog has jumped up onto my lap (or, he tries to, he's a big dog) and pressed that button by accident while I'm typing or oekakiing. Right now I'm not the lookout, because I'm drawing a picture for Mika on the oekaki. ??;
I wanna post somemore pics of my dog~~~}

Maxie nodded at jena's tale. It actually made sense... maybe she really was a mareep rearer? It didn't seem very glamourous, though, and Maxie could imagine Jena as a Princess or at least a Lady. She brushed an unruly strand of hair behind one ear, and smiled. "That sounds cool. Glory to the family name... Though, don't you have some sort of herding pokemon? Like a growlithe or a poochyena?" she asked. After all, if Jena was going to become better at harding through battling, surely she would be training up a dog pokemon?

Fang nodded proudly at Cascade's shock. {I might be even older, I'm not sure. I remember... I remember Maxie when she was a baby. Not what she looked like, only her voice. Crying lots and lots! You were a silly baby.}
"Shu'p, Fang. You cried more than me. I remember, one time-"
{ANYWAY,} the bat continued, {I'm probably older than Maxie. I can't really recall much before we were, like, two. Other than then I remember just lots of noises and colours. If I strain reeeeally hard...} he scrunched up his face ridiculously, no doubt trying to remember. {I dunno. But I'm still probably older than you!} he taunted, grinning at Maxie in his usual toothy manner.
"And you're still a wimp!" Maxie laughed, and cuddled her zubat. He shrieked and giggled, but allowed himself to be held in her arms.
Neither of them seemed to realise how weird this was. Zubats, even domesticated ones, have relatively short lifespans - ten years at the best.

Finally, they turned to listen to Kayley. Her story was believable too. "What was your mother's field?" she asked. "That is, if I'm not prying." she added, after a dark look from Fang.

OOC: Dedicated to better weather? Yeah, that could come in handy. ^^ Oh, and to the random person who rated this thread with a 1 for no apparent reason; I hate you too. xP

Anyways, a Sattellite Navigated Shoe? I agree, it would rock to see some details on that. xD As would seeing some more pics of your dog. ^-^ Anyways, get better soon. ^^

Oh, and yay on your essay contest entry, Yibber! And for the non-stressing function of writing. XD

IC:

Rai was silent for a good bit, listening with great interest to the others relating the tales of how they became trainers, all from Zachary's escape from the slum life to Kayley's defiance of her mother's wishes, oh, if only Isabel had been that agreeable as mothers went. Although the boy was quite sure that Kayley's mother hadn't just let her go like that, he was also pretty certain that she hadn't resorted to ensuring her daughter's continued presence with a spiked wall and a contingent of security guards. Overall, he noticed more or less the same motives behind everyone's choice; the desire to find your own way in life and proving to everyone that you are something, something more than what others have decided that you are...something...different. Although of course Silver hadn't related her tale yet, and odds were that she might not at all, seeing as how she was even more protective of her secrets than the others. Still, it was quite the coincidence, the six of them all meeting up and ending up travelling together, quite a fortunate coincidence, it had to be said. As his thoughts about each individual's history grew ever more complicated, the boy felt, at last, like it was time to comment on something, and Maxie had provided a nice start;

"I agree on that." he said, nodding, "It really sounds like you've had a rough time, Zach, you really deserve credit for staying as friendly and open as you have." Rai gave the other boy a friendly smile, "And for speaking the truth, even if some people would laugh at it." he added, clearly denoting the boy's explanation about the pok?mon he wanted to catch, "There really are a lot of people who just like to lable Togepi a pok?mon for little girls who want to play mommy, but judging by what I read they're really far more than that...far more. They're hard to raise, but they should be well worth the effort. And supposedly, a happy Togepi brings good luck as well."

The boy fell silent again, allowing Kayley and Jena to relate their stories as well, although he felt inclined to speak once more when Maxie commented on Jena's pok?mon;

"Well, Marshtomp and Swampert are both immune to electricity..." he commented at Maxie's question, "So they probably come in handy if the Mareep are temperamental since they can't be electrocuted. Although truth to be told, I would have expected something like a Jolteon or possibly a Sandshrew or Diglett if the farm isn't doing too well..." the boy shrugged, "I'm hardly an expert at it, though."

Zachary
=============

Zachary felt a bit guilty at hearing his friends commend him on being so kind and gentle instead of like the others; it was true, he was very different from those other boys now, but before....

"Good luck? Well I could definitely use that!" he said with a smile, thinking of his clumsiness, "Now I have to make sure and find a Togepi." He paused for a moment, wondering how best to say what he wanted to. "You know, I wasn't... always this nice. Some of the people I used to think were my friends, they sort of, well, brought out the worst in me. I didn't really like not being nice though, and my mother, she was one of the reasons I became the way I am now. It was for her really-- and Ron too."

Zachary felt a bit embarrassed saying this, all of them sounded like they had relationships with their parents, or foster parents, that were not too great. Zachary's mother was so kind and thoughtful, so timid and sweet, and they had always had a great relationship. It was strained a bit when Zachary had joined the gang he was in, but they had never had any other problems.

Hi father though... Zachary tried not to think about his father much. A couple memories surfaced in his mind at first thought of him, but he pushed them back down from where they came from, wanting to forget them. It was for the best.

Kayley tilted her head, once Zach had started talking about his mother. He described her as the kind of mother that showered their children with affection, or at least clearly showed their love. Heh, sometimes she wished her own mother could've found a way to better show her affection..

When she thought about it, her parents were the complete opposite when it came to how clearly they showed their emotions. It was ironic, really.

"Your mother sounds like a really good person, Zach." Kayley began. She was about to expand on that thought when she realized that she had forgotten about Maxie's question due to her thoughts. "Oh, right, Maxie.. My mother, well, she used to be a music teacher. She's pretty much just a housewife now, though. It's my father that makes all the money."

At this point, Fishy decided that now would be the perfect time to yawn and fall asleep right where he was in Kayley's arms. He actually did that and began to snore softly within several moments, but why he was in a sleepy mood all of a sudden, Kayley didn't know.

Kinaki was still following silently after Kayley, all the while ignoring Orjen. She wanted to see how long she could keep it up..

"They sort of, well, brought out the worst in me."
Zachary's words made her look up. She couldn't imagine him any other way; not blunt, or brutal, or ruthless, like the boys she had met in that neighbourhood. She pursed her lips. I guess everyone's got a bit of badness in them... even kids like Zachary...

The girl's expression softened. "I wish..." she began, "I wish I could have met my mother... I was 'removed' from her when I was just a baby. I got a photo of her, though." her voice, too, lost it's hard edge. It became almost wistfull, as her thoughts well on her mother.
She shoved her hand in the back pocket of her jeans, and pulled out a small, battered locket. The chain had hung over the edge, but it was such a cheap looking metal it could have been a wallet chain. It's front was scratched and burnished, and it was a squashed oval shape. For a minute or two, Maxie struggled with the lock in her big leather gloves. Eventually it swung open, and Maxie thrust it in the faces of the others proudly.
"Wasn't she pretty?"
The woman in the picture smiled out endlessly, her face a picture of youthful joy. Her hair was light brown, and fell to her shoulders in lushious, fluffy ringlets. Her eyes were hazel, but they had the same sort of almond shape as Maxie's own.

OOC: Urgh...sorry about the late response and all...it's just that I'm having a major writer's block at the moment and can't seem to think straight. (All because of that stupid chill waking me up at 8:30 AM...~_~) Meh, I'll try to type up an IC now, don't shoot me if it sucks...

IC:

Rai remained silent at Zachary's comment, about him not always having been what it was, how his 'friends' had led him in the wrong direction and how his mother and Aron had managed to change his mind. The boy didn't quite know what to say at first, it was obvious that Zachary hadn't had an easy time, but on the other hand, he had a mother who clearly was not only a kind and caring person but with whom he also had a good relationship, something which Rai and Isabel had never shared. But still, there was a question which lingered in his mind.

"I'll have to agree with Kayley on that." the boy said at the girl's comment, "You two must really be close. But still, I can't help wondering..." he took a pause, "What's your dad like, Zach?"

Before there was any reply to be had however, Maxie, apparently touched by the moment, procured a battered old locket, opening it up and holding out the picture of her mother for everyone to see.

Rai took a moment to study the woman in the picture, quickly surmising that it had to be a rather old one considering how young she looked, and although there were quite many differences between her and Maxie, seeing both at the same time didn't make it too hard to see that both were clearly related.

"She is." he concured, nodding, and although he knew that one couldn't tell anybody's personality by their appearance, the ever picture-beautiful Isabel being a prime example, it still seemed even worse to him that someone could just be separated from a part of their family like that, regardless of what that part was, "I'm sorry that the two of you never got to meet, do you...you know, have any idea of where she might be or what she does? I mean, we are obviously going to travel quite a bit, so maybe we could try to find her on the way?"
