    [PokeCommunity.com] Skins

Arguably the most talked-about show on television, MTV's skins certainly went off with a bang. The show is trying to portray the lives of "real american teenagers", the characters being played by real American teenagers, to make a statement of sorts. Some things in the show are a bit exaggerated, but for the most part, it gives a new and rational perspective that, going to where, as one actress said "other shows are afraid to go". The show has recieved it's fair share of praise, but it has also been reviled by parents alike. Taco Bell was proposed to be boycotted, because one of their commercials aired during an episode of skins. Many consider "Dangerous" to teenagers and are trying to get the FCC to take it off the air, and give it the somewhat unfitting title of "Child Pornography".
So, what do you think of skins?

All it proves is how America is different to the UK.

We have had our version of Skins for a while, (5th series starting soon) and pretty much no controversy follows.

Somehow its different in America. I don't understand :L

Let's just say the US Version is alright, I'm not necessarily a big fan. I find it quite funny how it's actually filmed in Canada and not in USA, despite it supposed to be taking place in US. I am a big fan of the original UK series much more over the US one to be honest. The UK series is actually returning this Thursday and the only way I can actually watch it would be online as it would take some time for them to air it over here on BBC America where they were airing it. Since all this controversy for the US version I doubt they'd be airing the UK version anytime soon, plus it's more of in a adult nature compared to the US one. BBC America also has heavily edited it. [I think I repeated UK & US too much] Anyways Canada will get uncensored versions while US has censored some of it. I don't really see a point as it's rated TV-MA. To be honest it feels of a TV-14 nature if they are going to be censoring it.

Well, I love the UK Skins.

I feel sorry for you guys not getting it. Let's face it, you'll never be able to quite recreate what the guys did over here. Especially as apparently one of the characters is replaced with an opposite-gender counterpart (I think it's the gay one, Maxie) which totally ruins a storyline...hopefully it'll be pretty good though.
I think the media were surprisingly slack over here in Britain. They'll often jump the gun at criticising programmes, but for some reason Skins got away with it. I don't understand what the problem is though. Hopefully it doesn't get cancelled, and you still get UK series', although I think Series 1-4 are probably going to be the best ones, you never know do you?

Yes, they did indeed replace it with a female portraying a lesbian cheerleader. It seems USA can't bear the sight of a gay male portraying a character am I right? I honestly don't know but it seems they never mind lesbian characters but when a gay character comes in, yes expect it to turn on some heads over here. I agree Series 1-4 were really good and quite enjoyed them, just if it's a new generation(third generation) I am willing to watch and see how it will turn out :)

Idk, I thought the first episode was pretty good xD It just seems like an immature OC or something. I thought the main character's actor did a nice job especially, and boy can he sing :I

The US are way to strict when it comes to TV show entertainment. At any rate, I'm fond of the original series, I think it was a bad move, changing the cast so frequently. It seems that by the time we get to know the characters well enough, we see them change. And that is my biggest issue with the show. Much rather see the British version also, as the previous series' seemed so much more suited to Brit culture, alas, the US media always must get their hands on anything foreign in which they see becoming popular.

I've never had the oppurtunity to watch the British version of Skins, I've only heard of it because it was discussed on the radio this morning, and it was stated that it wasn't too controversial.
I think the U.S still holds to some values, and try to act oblivious to those who go against these values. Hopefully this show can show adults life, through a different perspective.

OC had adults playing teens, the statement made here is that teenage actors are playing these parts, and that they support the show and what it stands for.

Well, I think they were trying to keep true to the original. Although it was obviously decided that a lesbian cheerleader is more acceptable or believable than a gay dancer. Maybe the producers had been watching too much (insert name of forbidden video-type here). ;P

Or. Trying to get randy male viewers. A teenage lesbian cheerleader? Come. on.

Yeah, but they had lesbians in the second series of Skins over here...so are they going to go for two consecutive sets of lesbians, or are they going to swap them out for somebody gay, meaning that they've just mixed up how it was originally done?

Also, do they still have the best friends who're Muslim and Gay, and have to overcome this? No.

I would love to see if they do the Russian episode in US Skins...it'd probably be even more stereotypical than our version...

Did anyone catch the season five premiere of Skins(UK)? It was quite good to be honest, my favorite character this generation would have to be Franky, I just love her/his story this season and it stands out.

MTV RUINED Skins. It should have stayed with the UK, or at the very least, had the US airing the UK version of it. I mean, really. It's ridic.

    Skins is so boring.
I never liked it and I never will. It is one of those stupid, annoying shows that just, apparently, apply to the teenagers.

Yes I did, and I think I'll need at least one more episode before I love it. My favourite character so far is Grace, followed by Alo lol.

I also saw that...one problem though: The first half was just like Mean Girls, except British. Nothing wrong with that, it's just very un-imaginative.

    Grace is funny though.

i actually kind of like it -shemellon- id like to know the crazy girls story -shemellon-
