"smut for smut"

This thread has really stayed on topic (notice the sarcasm).

But seriously, arguing about who's religion is right or wrong never gets anywhere but ugly imo.

As for the topic of the thread, it might be illegal to distribute pornography in a public place because of the risk that they'll distribute it to minors. They should be checking IDs. If they're doing that, then they have a constitutional right to hold a demonstration and we all deserve to have our rights respected.

It looks like you said the same thing twice o.O

Anyway, I do see your point. You can't really prove that a religion is right or wrong until you die. Also, considering where they were and that they don't appear to be checking IDs, it is technically illegal.

O... kay.

This is a first. I've never heard anyone say that the scripts in the Bible are as bad or worse than Porn. The whole Atheist thing seems to be getting steam and being more bold about stuff like that. But most people believe that the Bible is something good and Porn is the exploitation of women, which many religious groups consider bad.

I wouldn't be surprised if some firebrand preacher comes by and delivers a major sermon while this is going on.

Atheists:
92% of them thinks they're cool, hates preachers yet preaches.
5% of them are Atheists because it fits them.
The other 3% are lucky their ancestors didn't live in Nazi Germany, many Jews would be saved if we replaced the Jews with the 95% of Atheists who are giving Secularism a bad image.

No, technically they are operating within the law. Unless a minor manages to get their hands on some of their material, then it's going to be trouble.

Going to be? GOING TO BE? Honestly, I don't think it matters whether it's legal or not.

THESE PEOPLE MAKE ME SICK.

They aren't expressing their viewpoints, they're just wasting their life trying to say something is crap, again, just like the stinkin Anti-Pokemon people! Everything they do isn't worthwhile, and they basically say that something/one they know nothing about is g__ or something like that!

(I have little respect for people like the ones in the article, sorry if I offend anyone)

This is my thought: Ignorance truly is bliss.

Porn =/= the Bible, at all. The atheists of that club are clearly attempting to spark something. How exactly is this any different from me defacing a synagogue with a Nazi swastika?

These people need a serious talking to about R-E-S-P-E-C-T.

Because Atheists didn't murder six and a half million innocent people via the Holocaust, that's why. You're completely ignoring the historical aspect.

I don't even know what to say to that. They have a right to voice their opinion via the first amendment. That constitutional right is infallible, regardless of what you think or not.

I personally find such a demonstration to be done in bad taste due to the implications it carries. It's being done to mock Christians and their beliefs, which is unnecessary, and just hoping to provoke something.

It's just tacky, to be honest. :\

You know what gets me riled up?

When a priest tells the members of his church who to vote for. That's something they know nothing about, and you know what? If they want to have a voice in politics, I say let 'em pay the entrance fee like everyone else. 'Cause churches don't pay any taxes.

These people made a solid, albeit incredibly blunt, point. Again, I must ask, have you ever read the Bible? These people's accusations are not too far off from the truth. And if you ask a fundamentalist their opinion of an atheist, I think you'd be surprised just how justified and tame this Bible = Porn thing truly is.

In the view of club members, religious texts are as smutty as pornography because they contain violence and torture and spark religious wars. But mostly, it's a public relations stunt meant to ignite debate and attract new members to the club.
Not sure about you guys (I was skimming this thread real quick, oy), but I find it weird violence and torture are the reasons they would consider pornography. O.o Yeah, there might be some (video or print) that contain a variation of those one way or another, but not too many I don't think. If they said something like graphic violence, then that reason would have been more validated IMO. Eh, not saying they can't preach the Bible is smut as I too believe in free speech, just thought their reason why the bible can be considered porn is slightly weird. *shrugs* Then again, like Erik said, things like this happened to provoke something.

:C What a mean perspective on Atheists.. I'm not one but I actually disagree with you.. and I have a feeling you've unfortunately met some pretty harsh Atheists..

If you are devoted to something so strongly that you get offended whenever someone mocks it, that's unfortunate.

I think it's hilarious. If any Christian has any honesty about them, they need to admit that their book is full of smut: incest, rape, genocide, murder, betrayal, and all manner of bad things.

All holy books are - the reason they're picking the Bible is because it's the most used in America - there are way more Christians than anybody else. If they had used the Bhagavad Gita, there wouldn't even be a news story. They're making a point, and they're making it well. I don't see a problem here.

there should be a respect for people's opinions and beliefs, not something that religious people or fundamentalists have a lot of the time, granted, but if youre atheist and you condone this then youre just as much of a moron as the christians youre trying to diss. these people fall under the rubric of the atheist branch that i despise the most; those who complain incessantly about christians curbing their freedom of speech or trying to shove beliefs down their throats and the next moment they retaliate by burning bibles, slandering jesus, calling mary a prostitute and generally mocking every aspect of christianity thinking that just because theyre atheistic it somehow places them on a moral and intellectual pedestal.

You guys are all exaggerating. Who really cares? This issue does not, and will not ever affect you, so stop getting so pissed off. They can do what they want. It's a free world.
