And the game looks, really un-high quality compared to pokemon x. Last time I saw my friend playing a pokemon game on his DS it looked nice, could it be because I'm playing on a 3ds or?

Yeah, it's not as crisp on 3ds (I own both systems so it's easy to compare).

Yeah, I found out that the DS games aren't as good on a 3DS as they are a normal DS. I kinda noticed that the 3DS' screen isn't as strong quality for holding it on. I usually play my main White 2 on my DSi.

This is because the 3DS has a bigger screen size and a much higher resolution. When playing a DS game, the game is scaled to fit the entire screen. There is a button combination you can press to play the game at the normal resolution, but this makes the actual size very small.

When I play my Black2 on my 3DS, it doesn't take up the whole top screen (there's gaps on the sides). And what's the button combination to alter the resolution?

as far as I'm aware you cannot change the screen resolution. The 3DS automatically identifies the game as a DS game and loads to a proper screen size.

When I first got my B2, I thought the quality improved. After playing Pokemon X and Y, I went back t it, the quality is awful. Lol.

I thought Black 2, Silver, Platinum all looked fine until I tried playing them after playing Y. I've never owned a DS either. I bought a 3DS and Soul Silver, Platinum, White, Black 2 November last year. I can't compare between the two systems but I can say I thought the games looked a lot better before playing Y lol.

DS games are meant to be played on DS systems. If you play them on 3DS, they simply won't look as good. d: Also, this thread would fit better in Pokémon Gaming Central; I'm moving it there.

    Moved.

It doesn't take up the whole top screen, because that screen is a wide screen, unlike that of the regular DS.

To play DS games at their original resolution you have to press start or select while booting up the game from the home menu.

What 3DS are you playing? The resolution for DS games is the same one regular 3DS as it is on the DS Lite/DSi. The only drastic change exists on the 3DS XL, in which the DS resolution gets distorted.

Had to double check by googling it (https://www.ign.com/articles/2011/03/25/playing-ds-games-on-the-3ds), but I got it to work. The game is at a much better resolution.

....But the screens are small. And I'm pretty sure that DS screens, or even GBA screens, were never that small.

If you play the game like that, it's size in pixels is the same as on a normal DS or DS Lite, but the 3DS has a much higher resolution, so the pixels are smaller.

Question's answered, so no need to keep this open.
