    Hey,

I was wondering if it's possible to add a Guide category to the Pokemon Gaming Central and the Main Series Pokemon Gaming Forum. I'm thinking of making some helpful guides on Increasing Pokemon's Friendship and EV Training yet there's no guide category on the forums I mentioned. There's Guide categories in Trade Corner but the guides I want to make aren't really about trading unlike the breeding guides found in Trade Corner

Also I was wondering about adding favourite sections on profiles? E.g. Favourite Music, Favourite Films, etc...

I've noticed on other forums like Nuggetbridge that they have a community reputation thing. I think it'd be helpful as people could recognise trusted members especially if they're using another section's forum on this site :P Not really sure how it'd work but hm...

Hi pal, I'd be more than happy to get a guide category added for you in PGC. I'll add it asap as we already have a few guides. :)

thanks. i was wondering. do u think a friendship and ev guide is better suited to the ORAS and XY forum as my guide is for gen 6 only and not for the pokemon games overall

Since it's cross-games, I'd say post it in PGC. If OR/AS and X/Y ever get merged into one Gen 6 forum then it definitely should go there but that won't happen for a while yet.

ah ok. thanks :P i just don't want my threads closed or moved :P and each mod has different opinions about what's appropriate, etc...

btw for the other suggestions is that down to the super moderators and admins to decide?

i'll get writing on my guides then :P

New suggestions for what to feature in postbits and on profiles is always nice! But perhaps favorite music and film isn't something you visit a pokémon forum user's profile in order to find out? Rather it sounds like a facebook thing. If you are curious about what a person likes or dislikes and it's not something that shows on their profile, I suggest striking up a Visitor Message conversation with them to get to know them c: If you want to show off your own taste in music or film and other such things, you can put it in the "bio" field on your profile, or even show it off in your signature.

We used to have a reputation system long time ago. Several times, actually, since it was taken down because of misuse, and then got a second chance but failed again iirc. We don't exactly like to raise people to the skies as better or more important than others here anyways; everybody's voice should get an equal chance to be heard, regardless of how new or old or well liked by others you are. As for system for marking people as "trusted", we generally have only needed such systems for special sections or events, such as trading, and not forum wide.

i guess so but it'd be nice to meet other members from the same country :P also would be nice to talk about other things besides pokemon all the time :p there's forums for random chats isn't there so might be useful for that?

yh that's true. i only really use the trading forums so i don't really know what happens in other forums but it'd be helpful as i'm always wary of ppl with low post counts offering pokemon as they're probably hacked... but this is just a generalisation as there are probably new members who aren't scammers :P it also helps coz not everyone is an expert on hacked pokemon so even ppl with high post counts that i've never encountered before i'll do a hack check (as they might be new to trading) but i won't be as scrutinous with ppl i know well

maybe i should explore other forums besides trade forums :P

Rather than adding a guide category to sections I'd love to see that sort of thing pitched as Daily articles. I think they'd add a lot to the Daily.

the only problem is finding those guides. ppl would have to scroll thro the archives. also can't u promote posts. not sure what happens when u promote but i know that if it gets chosen its advertised somewhere.

the good thing about guide categories in trade corner is that the guide is always there like the breeding guide .

maybe adding a guide thread as one of the thread starters in PCG or making it a subforum there would be helpful as guides are meant to be articles rather than stuff u discuss so it'd be nice to find guides in one place. it sucks having to google how to ev train or do something else coz u have different websites so it's scattered everywhere. also a dedicated guide thread starter/subforum might give PC UNIQUE selling point compared to other forums? :p getting down to business heheheh

Daily articles are both displayed at the top of the forum next to the bulletin board on some skins and automatically place links and comment threads in the relevant section. So that shouldn't be a problem at all. Those threads or the articles themselves can then be promoted by our social media team. :)

hm.. the only problem is the articles are like the news. they become outdated and useless after a while. if i wanted to search for a certain guide I'd have to browse thro pc daily. guides are useul for a longer time than news articles. if i made an ev trainimg guide it would be useful for the current gen. if it's placed in a special guide category ppl would be able to find it easily and also they wouldn't waste time, making a duplicate guide. i just think it's a good idea to have a database of guides in one place that's easily accesible. especially for new ppl who might find a pc guide when googling something like ev training. they could join pc and then be able to find it easily. tbh i didn't even know trade corner did breeding guides.

Going to add that guides would also need to be searched by in threads, at least by tag. Not all threads get stickied!

But yeah, certainly welcoming guides existing on Daily, which get a linked forum comment thread which can parallel the content. And it's something that could net you a lot of views too. There is the one case of the Pokemon GO guide article (which is also a thread in the GO section) netting (since it was posted) 200,000+ views, which is hella crazy.

Of course that's an extreme example with maybe some luck and good timing added in, but the potential is there! (Battling articles done for instance comfortably in the hundreds for example, and I expect they'll grow when we add more). And personally I'd be particularly interested in getting some Sun/Moon guide Daily articles when those games come out.
    EDIT: Dangit missed your post.

Not so. As said, any Daily article will appear on the forums as a thread too (and we can copy-paste article content into the thread easily as well if one wants it to show up in both places at once), and the forum thread version can be given a Guide category if made to exist.

Meanwhile, we can also add a guide category to Daily so you can go there, click 'guides' and you get only the guide articles, and even have it listed at the top of Daily. (For sake of example: Fanbase category which is a link on the navbar at the top of Daily. Or How to Battle with article series - top of this article, or the article tag of 'battling'.) Daily is more than news - has been, will be. Really want to clear up that misconception.

well in trade corner there's a mega guide which is stickied :p in fact there's a link to it in one of PCs threads to help beginners. well if a thread is good enough why not send it to a moderator to get it stickied or like i said create a subforum just for guides? i'm sure there's a way of making a guide that is useful like breeding, ev training a permanent and easy thing to find :P you can even make a subsub forum? :P

that pokemon go article views is crazy xD well i don't really use daily.

It's true that guides can be, and are, stickied. But if a section has a lot of guides, then you're unlikely to want to sticky every single one as it defeats the purpose of putting other important threads (rules, section-wide chat threads, etc) at the top. It's a case-by-case basis and you're free to suggest a thread to be stickied to a section's mod, but certainly not every single guide ever written or will be written will be stickied. (Top of my head example - has been many FF&W guides over the years, and not all of them are currently stickied, even in its subsection).

    you should =p

Not really tedious. There's a search bar on Daily just like on the forums, so if you just search a key word/s then you'll get all articles that use it, on top of the tagging system and category. And if we do make a guide category on Daily (don't see why not), then searching within that is easily doable too.

Not yet. Guides have been mostly about battling and GO thus far. Side note, you can pitch ideas for articles/guides/whatnot in the Daily section via a new thread. A bit disappointing that it's thought of as a news site though, as it's definitely more than that. But I guess of late it has been mostly news - there's been a lot.
maybe they can copy and paste useful guides like the how to battle into a special forum? :P
Well, in the past the comment threads for said articles went into the Battling section. Idk what else you mean by 'special forum' (a separate section for all guides on any topic? If so I imagine the best way is for threads to appear in both that and another section it'd fit in right now), but basically any article gets a comment thread in the most relevant section we can find atm.

what's FF&W? hm but i think ev training would be stickied. it's a pretty important mechanic. either way it would just be nice to have guides grouped somewhere :P

well if you do make a guide category msg me and i'll submit my guide :P the forum search option is pretty annoying. to find another member i have to use the advanced search and it doesn't take u to their profile :( how do u see the members list btw? doesn't seem to be a direct link.

FF&W is Fan-Fiction and Writing. If there were to be a Guides Sub-forum, I doubt more than one guide would be stickied at a time, and probably no more than a month.

Also, there could only be so many threads in a guides forum, as you don't really need more then one guide for anything. The activity would probably be too low to keep it up after a certain point.

well guides are just articles that ppl keep referring to. they're not really meant to be commented on. just like the forum rules for each forum?

Hey people. I'd like to interject for a moment.

Isn't the point of a guide that it can be commented on? Likely there would be questions or suggestions for improvement of the content, as well as, if anything, updates of the "this method no longer works as of $DATE" for certain guides. In particular for things like FF&W, or roleplays, I'd say half the point of a guide is to encourage discussion - you want to know if people are "getting what you are writing, right?

That'd be different from an article or a manual, those don't really need further direct input, though they might be open to corrections or improvements from a purely editorial perspective.

Or maybe I'm overthinking this too much.

As for the matter of guides relevance and number of stickies, we can always add one more layer of indirection - have a sticked "index of useful guides" for subforum, or something like that. I know we have a similar "index of useful tools" for FF&W section, for example, and I guess ROM Hacking also has its own indexes.
