Look at what I read on gamegrep.com:

"The president of The Pokémon Company admited that the original Gold and Silver were intended to be the last in the series. However the success of Pokémon Gold and Silver forced him to change his mind since it was selling faster than Red and Green."

I bet that decision was for the better, huh? XD

Well, that's pretty interesting. It's obvious from the anime and whatnot that they never intended to stop with the 1st Gen., but wow... what would've happened if it stopped after the 2nd Gen.?

Well, I personally don't mind if it stopped at gen II. but then we wouldn't get the adorable piplup :3

Wow, that's a thought. Pokemon would have just...died. I'm glad it kept on, but a part of me isn't happy that it did. Hard to explain.

I just hope they don't stop anytime soon.
Unfortunately, the creators of pokemon will eventually die, and in my opinion, so will Pokemon. :(

Nobody can replace the geniuses behind the series.

I hear he wants to stop at gen 6. Will most likely be a good thing. There is a lot of forgettable Pokemon these days. Not to mention the designs have gone downhill. But let's face the trust, eventually, they'll run out ideas and people will get wearied of the same old pattern.

Gen 6??? Wow... Hopefully the new pokemons will be better. I don't actually remember the new pokemons anymore. They just kind of fade in the back of my head after awhile. The only memorable ones to me are from GSC and back

Same for me really, but I still can easily recognize some of the newer ones that I actually liked, or were just really memorable for whatever reason. Gen 6 seems like a good enough place to stop, though I'm actually glad that they didn't stop after Gen 2.

You know, I am pretty scared. Firstly take that into consideration: That was when Pokemon was perhaps the biggest industry among children. Everybody, and I mean EVERYBODY had a Pokemon Card, or game, or had a child who loved Pokemon, or knew a parent who had a child who loved Pokemon. That was when the business was as big as it could possibly get. And that was when they wanted to quit Pokemon?!

Now take into consideration that the series is almost down and out. I mean, let's be honest here! How many Pokemon commercials do you see anymore? Let alone people who are still into it. I am perhaps the only teenager in northwest Florida who enjoy Pokemon in almost all aspects (I'm not a big fan of the cards anymore, but the anime is actually pretty funny at times). So it is scary to think that if they wanted to give up then with the industry so good, they're probably going to give up any second now...

I was thinking the other day that they should look at these forums to get ideas. Hire people here to help them come up with new Ideas! They know some of their designs are bad, why not get somebody who loves Pokemon through good and bad and all the new fads to help! I just worry sometimes, because Pokemon is a large part of my life. It's how I relax, have fun, and meet people as great as you guys. I hope that they get some help, and from the amazing people like you.

    With all regards,

    -ChrisTom

You're just thinking about the US though. Pokemon is still hugely popular in Japan. Which is probably where they base more of their decisions on rather than their other markets. So I doubt that we have anything to worry about.

But he's got a point about coming here , several PC members have made some good Fakemon that would be better than what they've got in Sinnoh. Of course, not all of them are great... but I doubt they would come anyways. It would be cool though!

Is that true munchdog? I didn't even think it was popular in Japan anymore... It is really sad when your main hobby is declining into the abyss of "Things that were once popular, but now only a very small and specific demographic likes them" alongside Speed Racer, N64s, 8-tracks, and Zoo Tycoon.

Yeah, I read about it before at another website. I didn't beleive it at first, to be honest.

so glad they didn't. I liked pokemon since kanto, but hoenn was when i was really got into the merchandise, games and show, since I was old enough to understand. I think 6th gen is a good time to stop. if they include remakes, or even if they don't... well according to the pattern we'll have another 7+ years. By that time the pokemon designs will probably be a bit... uncreative, they'll run out of ideas. There really isn't much more they can add to the games, and there is already almost 500 pokemon.
But I love pokemon... hopefully at least the 6th gen gaming console will be super awesome and last forever, so I can still be playing pokemon when I'm in a retirement home :) "Mrs *******, it's time for breakfast, come on now" "Just wait youngen, I gotta trade "insert 6th gen poke here" on to the (new and improved) pokewalker. Did you put my soup in the pikachu mug?" "Yes mrs ********"

Silver was my first Pokemon, I loved it. I had the little Gameboy colour Silver bag, the guide and the game. I adored it. Lugia is my favourite Pokemon and always will be. The pokemon series after that have been good but they were never as good as the original. I'm still into all aspects of Pokemon and really am the only person who is =X

I wish they did, the new pokemon are forgetful, the anime is just plain horrible now, and having 493+ makes it nearly impossible to fill the pokedex.

And on top all of that, pokemon fever has died so the younger kids who don't remember it are less likely to play it now. When I was little, you could see hundreds of kids with their Gameboys but now I see very few kids playing the Ds pokemon games.
