First: make sure to zoom in to 8x or similar when scratching. Always.

But before then, why don't you try something simpler? Scratching is one of the most complicated forms of spriting, and is very difficult for beginners to handle. So how about you get used to the Pokemon style by examining Pokemon sprites up close. A good way to do that is recoloring, as I see you've tried with that Ninetales.

However, Pokemon sprites are delicate things. They are made at the pixel level, and a full understanding of how the sprites are built is necessary first.

Now. Open up that Ninetales and Smoochum again, and this time zoom in to the max resolution and get a good look at the pixels. See how there's not only shading on the body, but on the outlines? Now. Try taking the eyedropper and finding each shade of yellow on Ninetales. There should be about four or five. Line them up from lightest to darkest (or darkest to lightest) and then do the same thing for smoochum. If there aren't as many colors on smoochum as there are on Ninetales, then try coloring Smoochum ninetales colors, making sure to replace the highlights with the lightest colors, the middle colors with their corresponding color, the shadows with the darker colors, and the outlines with the very dark colors.

It's a long way off from scratching, maybe, but it's the first step on the road!~

I made a side view of arcanine and aggron from scratch. I'm a begginer scratcher so please don't be too harsh! :) (these were my third and fourth things made from scratch) Comments please? :D

Woah... those are really pretty good! ^^ (Sorry I couldn't quote the pictures, but I'm really new here so they don't let me post URLs. >.>)

Heh. I'm kinda new to pixel artwork so I'll just lurk here for a while. :D

The outline ... well I think there's too much black outline. And just a bit oddly shape, but if it's like a first scratch of something you're not half bad. ;)

I could probably help ya. First off, they aren't revamped. What you gotta do is hmmmmmm ok I got it. Look at my revamp I made a page or two ago. What I did was went on Spriters-resource.com, found a revamped version of the boy trainer, and used the color from their revamp to revamp my own. Hope this helped. PM me if you since need help.;)

So you have paint. So do I! And all you need is to learn how to do pixel overs or whatever you did.

^That wasn't my greatest. :P

That's REALLY good. :o The blues are perfect, and the lines are flawless. I have absolutely no complaint except for that you could have attempted a different pose.. and that doesn't really count as a complaint, either. I wish I could help you improve your work, but I don't have any idea how to start. Great job!

(PS: I had to take away the URL cuz I'm too new here. :/)

I don't think you need to find a 'custom' pallet. :D All you have to do is find the right colors, and if you have Paint or some other art program, this should be quite possible.

Quite frankly, I'm not the best pixel artist so I may not be able to help you much. :/

I would suggest that you changed their skin colors (since obviously they're not red xD) and their clothes, as well. Check out Bulbapedia or something for clothes references. :D Hoped that helped.

That's REALLY very good. =D No complaints at all.. Huh. Really can't think of anything to suggest. Well, Marina's hair looks a little too dark... isn't it a bright blue? :P

Yeah, I was going to make it light blue, but I was using Coronis's pallete though, so I said "forgot it."
