Starting again

So I only just finished the game an hour ago and I am already contemplating starting over. I've always enjoyed playing through the game (Catching pokemon, collecting badges, exploring the region) far more than post game in any of the pokemon games. However, I have managed to collect some great pokemon through the wonder trade. I got a porygon, piplup, a feebas that was holding a prism scale, etc so i am still a little hesitant in erasing all of that. Does anyone else just or at least mainly play pokemon for the actual journey instead of the post game/battling competitively?

    I do.

Since I have both versions, I just trade Pokémon back and forth when I feel like restarting the game. So far, I've completed each version twice (once when I was discovering the games, the second time when I recorded the gameplay using the 3DS capture card) , and I restarted the games yet again, but not before managing to trade some eggs to the newly started games, so I could have a good team from the get go.

I figure that when I'm done with the third playthroughs, I'll have six Mewtwos, six Zygardes, three Xerneases, three Yveltals and two sets of Kanto birds :D . I'll keep them for when the seventh generation is released.

If you don't want to let go of your Pokémon, why not give them to a friend for safekeeping? When you restart your game, you could get them back any time you wish. Also, have you finished the Looker quests yet?

I play Pokémon mostly for their stories, yes. xD" When I'm done with the storyline, what I usually do is deeply explore all in-game locations and try familiarizing myself with them. Then, I would build a competitive team for myself and start battling online. If I ever get bored of battling, then I'd simply just erase my save file and restart.

Catch 'em all before you restart.

If you can wait for the Pokemon Bank, you could use that as an online storage to store all of your Pokemon in before restarting.

When i was still in school, i had several friends who also played pokemon so wanting to keep pokemon when starting again wasn't a problem. But over the years since I left, I have lost contact with them so i don't know anyone irl that can hold onto any pokemon id like to keep anymore. I guess I could always wait until they re release poke bank.

And on a slightly related note, i've gotten alot of FCs from people who want to use my safari type, since I seem to have a fairly rare type. I actually don't even know what my third safari pokemon is yet and if its one that people want to use, i might still wait a bit so it gives them a chance to catch it before I restart.

I found someone on here to hold on to my pokemon when i restarted my X, I just wanted to play through the game with a specific team from start to finish

I always restart my games as I love the journey. That's the main reason I am looking forward to poke bank as I am hoping that I can put my pokes I there and restart my game.

I have around 10 iv bred and ev trained pokes I want to hold on to so I will be waiting to restart.

I am really excited to do so!

Once PokeBank comes out and I can store my Pokemon, I'm going to restart my game.

I've always found the main gameplay a lot more fun than all the post-game stuff. I've been wanting to replay my Y version for a long time now, but I don't want to restart it for the same reasons as you. I've got some pretty good stuff on there and racked up a good number of hours playing that I'd hate to lose it all. Instead, I want to buy X later on when I can and use that as my copy for whenever I want to start over. The only Pokémon games I've found little interest in replaying over and over again are White and White 2. Fifth Gen seemed to have very little replay value to me.

This is a pretty broad discussion by the way, so I'm going to bump this on over to Pokémon Gaming Central.

I always keep one version for trading/battling and the other version for my challenges so I can keep restarting without losing anything :)

Example; I get Pokemon X & Y. I use Pokemon Y for to keep all my Pokemon in it, trading and battling and such. As for Pokemon X I'll use it for to do Challenges and then when I'm done with that one, I'll transfer all the Pokemon I used for the challenge into Pokemon Y :)

I do the exact same thing! It is so much better, you don't have to worry about losing all of your Pokemon you have worked so hard for to get!
