Stupid Mistakes You Made In Your First Pokemon Game

Using fire types on every rock types.

The only stupid thing I ever did was spend 3 hours trying to figure out where to get pokeballs from

Pokemon Yellow
could not get pass the first gym do to the damn yellow rat. gave up on Pokemon until gold and silver.

The thing with Blaine's gym isn't so bad - I take the quizzes in Yellow 'cuz you have to but I still battle the trainers. Why skip valuable exp. at the stage where you're leveling up for the E4? :D

My first was Platinum. The mistake I did was teaching them crazy HM moves on legendary Pokemon. T_T

I love your responses, guys ! xD
My first Pokemon game was Sapphire and as I hit most of you in the head with this, I had Blaziken at Lv. 97 when I challenged the Elite 4, while all my other team members were just at Lv. 20.
And Blaziken's Moveset : Blaze Kick, Sky Uppercut, ...Rock Smash and Strength.
Lol, I once faced a Lv. 20 Xatu somewhere when my Blaziken was Lv. 70. Blaziken used Rock Smash ! It's not very effective ... foe Xatu fainted ! xD
Yeah, lol. I loved my PokeNoob days. Mostly because I was a wee lad which loved to do ... nothing.

my worst mistake was wasteing a masterball on a ditto in blue version. that was like 10 years ago. but my favorite poke moment was captureing lvl 70 lugia with a great ball =)

Have you ever done this?

Hehehe, I did.
When I started my Diamond game (first ever!) and got passed the intro and got my starter, I was looking in the grass for the other starters :\ Anyone else ever done that?

You guys are not alone because stuff like this is very common with new trainers. I have a very long memory and I can definitely remember a few of those moments that happened when I was a kid. One of the worst of those noob mistakes happened when I was about 7 or 8 when some guy named John tricked me out of a shiny Golbat by telling me it was dangerous and to delete my Crystal file after that because it is close to it's "limit". Also, no I didn't look for starters, but I still had some pretty weird ideas about Pokemon placement back then. I once thought that Pokemon could go extinct when I went on a Ditto killing rampage for no apparent reason once in Red and I stopped seeing some for an hour or so due to bad luck. There was also the usual HM moves on legendaries that I did not understand the full rarity of. I should also mention that I once used a masterball on a Growlithe and ran from a Moltress on my very first Red file.

when i first played yellow, and beat misty and coul use cut, i didnt know you had to get the HM, so i spent 2 days training my charmander till he learnt it

My brother and I never went looking for other starters in the wild ourselves, since we had the guide book and knew prior to playing we could only get them once. What we did do however, was have me restart my copy of Pokémon Blue five times. Each time I restarted I'd pick another starter and trade it over to my brother for some level two Rattata or Pidgey. So after half an hour to forty-five minutes of that we then both had all three starters each.

When I first played I tried searching everywere for more starters >.> As you could imagine I was upset when I didn't find any lol

I did this too, but only later in the game. I've already won the poké league and my cousin was beginning his game, so he restarted his game again and again until he transfers to me 2 bulbassaur and 2 squirtle. Then I transfer back to him 1 bulbassaur and 1 squirtle, then picked charmander as starter, like I did (in that times it was a lv 100 Charizard). So we never searched for starters in the grass.

In yellow, i wanted the itemfinder,
read you need ten pokemon.

So what did i do? catch 10 ekans, 7 drowses and 4 caterpies.
Guess what? They have to be different species >.<

I started on Emerald, and I'd seen enough episodes of the anime to see all 3 starters appear in Advanced series.

So, I chose Torchic like May. Then I looked on a map, located Petalburg Woods, headed for it, on the way found a Lotad, remembered seeing Mudkip and Lotad on the opening titles together, so looked for about 1 hour before giving up. I then looked in Petalburg Woods for a Treecko for 2 hours.

Back when I got Ruby a Few Christmas's back.
I started my game and got my starter, my GBA turns off and needs to be recharged, I play while recharging it. The Problem, I forgot how to get my Starter, you know that guy would come out and say something and push you away from the exit. I thought it had something to do with my Characters name so I kept restarting and naming my character different names. Then I give it to my Dad, he puts in my name and goes to my rivals house, I was AMAZED 'cos my Dad is really bad at Video games and he figured out how to get my starter!

trading a lvl 100 blaziken for a lvl 3 poochyena because i was told it was legendary.

yyuuup.
