[Suggestion] Concerning Previous Usernames

    I have been really confused lately about who people are and rather than searching through the Change Username thread I think that PC should add a "Previous Usernames" section to our Profiles. I think it would be really helpful.

    Any comments on this idea?
     
    Hmmm, it does sound like an interesting idea. I have had trouble firguring out a few people. I don't think we need a profile addition, but a list of people who made a change in the thread. The uppers can update it when they change a name. It's up to them though.
     
    Sounds like a good idea. It would help the confusion between members when they have changed their names, and it beats reading a long list of who changed their names into what.
     
    All good ideas; I agree. I remember my terrible confusion when I returned at the end of May; I didn't recognize anyone because everyone had changed their name, and I wouldn't have had to relearn everyones' identities if that feature had been in existance. If only for the sake of newer or returning members, I think we should do this.
     
    I don't think a profile addition is the best idea really, There is a very good list that -pika2000- listed, I use that alot, it needs to be updated though, alot of people put what Username they had before in there signature, I guess if people don't do stuff like that and make it obvious who they where before, they might not want to be known for there past username etc.
     
    I agree. ^^ The nickname thread is now redundant. Pity, although the list was soon going to end up like the crush thread list - which will probably soon have to be pruned so it can be fit in one post -, it was actually helpful. n_n Also, saves putting it in your signature and stuff.
    Basically, what Kaga said. XD; I don't think there's any point taking his post, rewording it, and basically repeating what he said.

    That list is updated every time a name is changed. That is the list of all the members that had a name change.

    I guess a profile thing would be ok. If it could be where only Admins can edit that part then I guess I would be ok with it (if members could edit it then they might mess around with it and stick names in there and so on). But there is a list on the first post of the name changing thread. The reason why we added that is because members would know who got their name changed.
     
    I was/am also getting confused. One thing I once thought of is also putting a list of the new usernames 1st in alphabetical order with the old username 2nd along with the other list. I have trouble looking for the people on the list for this reason.

    But then again, it will be too much work. :\

    That's a risk you take when you accept a higher position.

    Besides, it isn't that hard to administer. Add a hidden profile field via 'User Profile Fields' in the Admin CP, then on the profile template (forgot the name - try and find a template with 'Join Date:' on it), add...

    ...to the 'Forum Info' section (preferably above the referral count), where the 'xx' is the field number. That can be seen in the Profile Field Manager btw. Correct me if the code is wrong.

    And imho, you should only keep the member's last username in that space, because if you've been around for more than 6 months, you should've caught on to the member's past usernames by now, and if you haven't been around for 6 months, then you have no need to worry about the person's other usernames.
     
    No... not a rule, but if one thinks that people may get his/her name mixed up, then it would simply be advisable.
     
    I'm not meaning to be rude, but how many people really get cofused anyways? Wouldn't it just be common sense to put it somewhere where people can see it, instead of having to make a thread with all of its bureaucracy involved, then get a big msasive debate about it -_-
     
    For once, I agree with Thomas. <_< It's easier and more convenient to add a field to the members' profiles. That way, there isn't any messy lists involved, and you aren't chocking onto the member's signature. After all, placing 'Previously known as: Kyogre-chan' in your signature would take up a line, which counts towards your maximum signature size. Even if 25 lines/10 with images is major overkill, you should get what I'm saying.
     
    I suggested keeping a list in the thread *aaaaaages* ago. Previous usernames/nicknames field would be awesome.
